Having hugely enjoyed our pre dinner drinks in the lovely bar adjacent, it was truly most disappointing to realise this place was all about style without substance..the food was quite disappointing-& therefore hugely overpriced. The weirdly muscular scallops began the fiasco, & my tasteless £36venison main, whilst looking nice, proved as dreary (& therefore no better) than my husband’s overcooked £32Halibut . The luscious sounding green beans had suffocated in the gooey tomato sauce, having lost their color almost entirely because they were hugely overcooked! Great advice was given by Osky regarding the lovely bar drinks& table wines available by the glass - the only worthwhile experiences of the evening. We did not appreciate being automatically slugged service charges for both the drinks and the dining experiences..but it’s apparently not uncommon here in Scotland we’ve been advised. They are resting on their laurels here..you can dine far better elsewhere for sure. We in fact most certainly did. But their Bar is certainly a standout! That IS recommended!

I was here for a group family celebration not organised by me. We had a private dining room 'supposedly' ...which random punters kept walking through the middle of ? .. highly annoying !!... Its the 3rd time Ive been here for one reason or another, over the years , and its been the same every time and honestly .. I dont know why people pay for this? . There are far better restaurants in Glasgow that have better service with better food and charge a lot less .. FACT! A few members in our party got luke warm food, some complained of it being under cooked and it took an age to have it served on some cool plates .. just not good enough for the spend I'm afraid !! .. The food its self was reasonable at best but uninspiring despite the very flamboyant pretentious descriptions on the menu. Ive eaten in many places with pretentious yet subtle descriptions and the food was excellent .. this place isn't one of them.

Went with another couple after a gap of about a year. Beautiful decor, warm welcome from staff. Excellent dinner and wine. Ingredients are carefully selected from best Scotland had to offer. Cooked with real skill and served efficiently and with charm. It is expensive ( pre after dinner drinks, al la carte dinner and wine with added service charge £217 per couple) but for a special occasion or treat good value. Special mention of Oksy the friendly bar lady

Very disappointing experience. Birthday dinner meal in an extremely dull restaurant. Food expensive but not up to par. Had to order steak from the bar menu as there was no beef or lamb dishes on the dinner menu. We had our dessert and coffees and then waiter comes up with the remains of the bottle of wine. Sorry but I do not drink wine with my coffee. He must have forgot about the wine. Why not just put the bottle in an ice bucket at the table. I will never return to this place. A huge disappoint.ent overall.

We were four ladies celebrating a 70th birthday. Aside from the service which could have been just a little more attentive, we enjoyed our experience very much. The afternoon tea quality was as expected of this kind of hotel.

We went for afternoon tea with Prosecco. The food was very good, however, the service left a lot to be desired. For such an iconic establishment, I was disappointed that we were given one pot of tea between two and not until we were readying ourselves to leave, were we offered any further tea. There were a number of staff around the establishment, however, they were sadly absent within the dining room. There were a number of couples having afternoon tea and on leaving, none of the tables were cleared. I was really looking forward to this experience, but will not rush back.

A hotel in an old Victorian building. It transpires British style. Wooden staircases, essential and elegant furniture, large and high bed, and good in room (self) service including expresso, chocolate and British coffee . Sumptuous bathroom. The rooms have names rather than numbers. This may cause problems for you finding your way on the first day at the hotel but eventually sediments the idea of a personalized service.

I visited for afternoon tea with my mother on tuesday after much anticipation and while the room was beautiful and the food was lovely, the service was very slow and inattentive. We arrived to find noone at the host stand and waited a good five minutes before searching for a member of staff to seat us, however she was pleasant and took our coats politely, we were seated and asked for our dietary requirements etc and asked what tea we would like but were not shown a menu of any sort until being told they had run out of Jasmine and white tea, rather disappointing for the price we paid, the food arrived and was explained well by the waiter, the scones were lovely. Nobody broke our napkins and no-one checked on us at any time and I had to go to the bar to ask for a pot of coffee and water, which we should have received on arrival. Our first batch of tea didn't arrive till we had finished our sandwiches, and we were eating very slowly because we were chatting. When the coffee arrived the waitress seemed indignant that we asked her to take away our empty teapots and cups when she had started to walk away. After we finished we stayed to drink our tea and chat but after about an hour of sitting with empty champagne glasses and a tea stand I had to ask the waitress to clear the table which makes me cringe. Finally we had to go up to the bar to pay. I reslly dislike leaving negative reviews and the staff seem nice but require a lot of training. I have spent much less and felt a lot more looked after and to feel like an inconvenience in an almost empty bar is unacceptable.

Customer service was appalling. Had to wait over an hour for the food and the steak was close to well done when we asked for medium rare! They offered to redo it but who knows how many hours that would take to be ready..The food was not cooked properly and the seasoning was off. Extremely overpriced, came to about 100pp. The atmosphere wasn't great and looked really old. Also there is no free street parking.

We were looking forward to enjoying a family meal at Hotel du Vin bistro, a long-time favourite venue for our special occasions. The evening started off well, with attentive service and an inviting menu. However, upon taking the first bite of my main course (skate wing), it became clear that something was very wrong with my meal. The fish exuded an ammonia-like smell and it felt like it was burning my throat. Another person in our party also had the same experience with the same dish. Although the staff apologised and changed our dishes without question (only partial compensation in the form of free desserts), no full explanation was provided as to the reason for the chemical smell/taste of our meals...a very concerning experience indeed!

Staying at the hotel for a few days, we arranged to have dinner last Sunday with 2 local friends. The bar was full for 4 so we had to await their arrival and have pre-prandial drinks in the lounge. That was fine and comfortable, albeit having to make our own atmosphere.Because of conservation status, there are effectively 4 dining rooms which is slightly unusual but dinner (in the front breakfast room) was entirely acceptable. At least one can move through, rather than out and back in as in the old days. The menu has a good range with quality standard. It was beautifully presented with prompt and polite service. Wood pigeon, whipped goats cheese, smoked salmon, followed by lemon sole, halibut and venison loin - excellent, delightful and perfectly cooked. Sorry about the some of the picture quality but one gets an idea. At approximately £45 a head without dessert, and excluding drinks, it is quite expensive but the Rosette standard of food and service merits that. A decent bottle of wine at over £50 is an extravagance but much appreciated - there are cheaper selections and many are available by the glass.Although, the decor (like the hotel) is a bit tired now. It does need decorative refreshment but we understand a refurb may be on the way. As an occasional treat and a healthy wallet, we would certainly recommend the Bistro.

Whenever we're in Glasgow, we dine (and often stay) here!We ate here on Tuesday and enjoyed a fabulous meal. A delicious steak each, a yummy starter... The wine was good although the attention of the waiter/sommelier was rather vague whilst I tasted it. A little more training required, I think: the wine bottle should be shown and attention paid as the customer tastes!Otherwise, the staff were fabulous! The only downside was the cheese trolley: the selection was reduced somewhat since our last visit two years ago. Also, the waiter gave me three cheeses of my choice; I had said that I would then select my other two portions later. Sadly, when I went to select my two pieces, the waiter gave me only a small piece of my favourite. I had been given a half of the piece on the trolley on my first sampling but he did not want to give me the other half for my second 'round' ---so, I was short changed! I asked for a larger portion and he gave me a little more. I was still short-changed!Come on, HdV, train your serving staff to offer reasonable portions ----it was not my fault that one of the cheeses was running out!Breakfasts were good, although the selection of pastries was no longer on display. Instead, two items were placed in with the toast. Not appetising! Why didn't I complain at the time, you may ask? Well, we were in Glasgow for my wife's sister's funeral. It would have been rather insensitive. Will we return to eat here? Possibly.

Booked lunch for our anniversary.Warmly greeted by Julia who served us throughout our meal. The food was beautifully presented and tasted wonderful, the prosecco perfectly chilled and the service first class.Julia was very professional with a very pleasant manner and rather good at taking photographs too.We had a lovely relaxed afternoon and retired to the bar for some more of the perfectly chilled prosecco.Would not hesitate to recommend Hotel du Vin

Went here for Easter Sunday yesterday - a very good 4 course meal which doubled as an 80th birthday celebration. Everything was first class - service, food and drink and reasonably priced. The french market self service course was fabulous. I ordered roast beef with trimmings for my main course. However trimmings only had veg and no Yorkshires. I know hotel Yorkshires will never match my mam or wife's but must be offered if beef comes with trimmings.Apart from this short coming we had a great afternoon

Visited the Bistro for a family celebratory birthday dinner. We were cordially greeted & escorted to the lounge bar for a pre dinner drink. The food was superb. Staff were attentive without being obtrusive. The Sommelier was so knowledgeable, choosing an excellent wine for our table. A lovely fine dining experience. It's not cheap, but definitely worth visiting, perhaps for a special occasion.

I went here with a good friend having been given the Itison 4 course champagne lunch as a Christmas present. Having not been for a few years it was nice to go back and see what it was like inside. We ended up with a lovely window seat which was great in the end - although when we first arrived to be sat beside another couple it was a bit strange but they left and we ended up having the table to ourselves. The 4 course champagne lunch was a great deal, although hard to order your pudding before you had even had anything else to eat. I would have changed my mind given the rest of my meal.I found the menu slightly limiting for main courses as a number of them were spiced which isnt for me - I did in the end opt for the pesto pasta which I would never usually order when I am out as you can make it at home. That was one disappointment of just not feeling there was a special main I would have picked - I am not a fussy eater usually either. The pudding we had (ended up swapping to try 2) was by far and away the star of the show - oh I would go back for that alone. Rhubard cheesecake with ginger ice cream - oh if its still on the menu then defo go for that - it was amazing!! We also shared a sticky toffee pudding but it was more of a poor second after the cheesecake. We then were offered to retire with our drinks inot he bar which was nice and we could see all the afternoon teas coming out which also looked very tempting so would happily go back to try that out based on the pudding we had.

Had a great meal with lots of attention at the table. I always feel it is a good sign if I am unsure what to choose from the menu. This restuarant didnt disappoint in this respect. In fact apart from a bit on the expensive side, I couldnt find fault.

I was looking forward to the set lunch menu and it did not disappoint. Like one of your other reviewers , my wife and I were on the Itison champagne lunch offer and were treated like any other diner by the attentive and composed staff. We enjoyed a very quaffable bottle of white Bordeaux from a very extensive wine list to supplement the champagne on arrival. The food was beautifully cooked and served, my wife enjoyed the sea bass in the richly flavoured broth whilst I plumped for a very tasty chicken with harissa sauce and couscous. We were both unadventurous in our choice of starter by opting for the soup, which was of course delicious. I had already made my mind up when first glancing at the menu that I would opt for the rhubarb cheesecake and although the other diners nearby were loving the cheese selection, I stuck to my guns. I was rewarded with a lovely dessert , a proper way to round off a lovely lunch.Great service from our efficient waitress helped to put the seal on a very enjoyable lunch. The only mistake we made was in not settling down in the nearby lounge and allowing the afternoon to drift by slowly. Maybe next time...

Our meal was served by a very enthusiastic young man called Fergus, he was so knowledgable about the menu and specifically the cheeses available ( in fact we shopped at the cheese supplier the following day). The Sea Bass with Oriental broth was sublime. The only down side to our visit was there was an electrical power outage therefore we were unable to sample the breakfast

Amazing meal with each course well prepared and beautifully presented. Helpful and knowledgeable staff who were there to advise on menu choices. Totally unhurried without feeling slow, I would say that myself and my dining partner had the best meal out in Glasgow in terms of fine dining that we have had to date. Would heartily recommend for that special celebration.

Visited recently with my wife for Champagne lunch on Itison deal and loved the whole experience. We were not treated any differently because we were on a deal and the service from opening the door on arrival to leaving was first class. Food was of a high standard and we will return.

This has been our go to Restaurant in Glasgow for business dinners for a long time, however just recently it feels as though its on the slide down. The biggest thing we do not like is the decision by Management to do away with Table cloths. It used to be beautifully set, with high quality table linens and added a real class to dinners we had with customers visiting our offices. Now its just run of the mill, wooden tables with your cutlery just plonked on the wooden table. Feels a lot more casual and "bums on seats", in and out as fast as possible. Not classy. Bring them back!!Also the Menu doesn't seem to change much anymore. You know what it is before you open it, and if your a regular diner here, there is no anticipation as you know whats coming. Service is still good, but they have lost a couple of excellent staff members. Again another sign things arent what they were. Its still a nice restaurant, but not the faultless classy place of a couple of years ago.

Dined here on 12/1/17 with my parents to celebrate my father's birthday. It was his first time at the restaurant (I had been a few times before and loved it) and I wanted to take home somewhere memorable. We had a drink in the gorgeous intimate bar before and then decided to go for the tasting menu. 7 absolutely breathtaking courses from the Jerusalem artichoke amuse bouche to the Monkfish and venison, everything was absolutely spot on. The food in combination with the most attentive, efficient staff (the knowledgeable sommelier and the lovely Spanish maitre'd) made for a very special evening. Thank you one Devonshire!

Best pub in the west end. Proper pies, filling and delicious. Fancy beans and Machair loaded fries also worth a try. Not too expensive & lovely staff. Lots of whiskey on the walls. Perfect place to meet friends for a drink, play board games or just to sit yourself and read a book or a paper. Dog friendly, outdoor seating for smokers.
