Having eaten before at Hotel du Vin in Edinburgh and St Andrews we were very disappointed..6 friends meeting up for the Fringe. It was explained there were no olives..no Chateaubriand and they had ran out of Grouse whisky..it was only 3.30pm. All this is understandable at Fringe time but the girl who was serving us (wearing a checked jacket) had an unfortunate manner..she was very off hand and acted as if she was superior to us all.

Si tratta di un locale situato all'interno di un hotel elegante, preceduto da un suggestivo angolo di un piccolo giardino, che abbiamo trovato molto accogliente e caratteristico. Il personale è davvero gentile e disponibile e le pietanze provate sono risultate gustose. L'anatra è notevole, la bistecca tradizionale e i dessert buoni, tra cui la black forest davvero degna di apprezzamento. Prezzi medio-alti.

Just awful food, onion tart was so hard you couldn't cut through it, chicken main was just like fast food chicken and chips nothing like a French restaurant we eat in a lot of French restaurants as love the food this is truely terrible very disappointed as it was a birthday treat, the only good thing was the serving staff were lovely.

Was celebrating a big birthday with a group of friends from all over the UK. We all met at Hotel Du Vin for a private Saturday evening dinner, nearly 30 people. Champagne on arrival, a sumptuous meal in their private dining room, birthday cake all round - everything was perfect! Everybody's food was divine. Wines also excellent (the clue is in the name) All of the staff at HDV were very professional but also genuinely warm and friendly. Such a special, memorable evening. A hidden gem amongst Edinburgh restaurants - highest possible recommendation

Vi nød en dejlig middag, velsmagende og pænt anrettet. Vi smagte hhv. kylling med kartoffelmos samt rumbsteak med pommes frites og bearnaise. Restaurantens lokale er hyggeligt dekoreret med utallige mindre indrammede reklameplakater fra tidligere tider, og med vinetiketter og andre effekter, der giver et fransk præg. Vi havde forsøgt på forhånd at bestille chateaubriant på hjemmesiden, men siden kunne ikke ekspedere bestillingen. Derfor forsøgte jeg at skrive til restauranten af to omgange, men mine mails blev desværre ikke besvaret. Det var lidt skuffende.

It was a shame as we were staying in the hotel but the service was pretty poor to be honest. Started off fine but then we just seemed to be forgotten between courses every time. It wasn't as if it was busy, 4 or 5 tables at the most. Had to wait for the starters to turn up because nobody took our wine order and waited 20 minutes for the desert menu to arrive. There was just no body around! A pity as the food is pretty good but this sort of thing just spoils it.

Visited restaurant on 19th October, we had been before and meal was really good. I opted for bouillabaisse, I was looking forward to the fresh taste of fennel in a seafood stew. The plate arrived, instead of a nice consommé type broth there was a pile of gloop in the bottom of the plate. It looked suspiciously similar to the contents of my grandson’s nappy. It was topped with one Luke warm prawn, two prawn heads, some mussels, who could have been the stunt double for Zelda from the Terrahawks, some greenery and a fillet of sea bass, the red mullet had already been reported as MIA. There was also another gloopy blob of caramac coloured substance, whose identity remains unknown. As for a taste of fennel, I think the dish may have been shown a fennel seed before being brought out. The meal was sent back and I refused the offer of something else. If a Chef was responsible for this he or she should be ashamed of themselves. We will never go back.

We chose Bistro du Vin for a birthday lunch in the Burke and Hare private dining room, for 17 people (adults and children). Overall the experience was faultless - right from the first contact with Martyna we were made to feel that nothing was too much trouble and communication was always prompt and to the point. Martyna did a great job working through our requirements, sorting out dietary needs and ensuring everything was as expected on the day. On the day itself Rene and his team were outstanding. Everyone was made to feel welcome, service was efficient but still warm and friendly and Rene was ever-present without ever being intrusive. The food itself could not have been better, and everyone left talking about already booking their next meal!

We visited Hotel du Vin for a special meal on Friday 7th August .... we were greeted by a very friendly lady and liked the ambience. I ordered steak and asked for it as advertised ... pink. It was done to shoe leather We asked for wine with the meal but had to ask for it to be served and it arrived when we had almost finished without an apology from a male wIter who was clearly not i terested in his job The rioja was delicious We decided to have another one and the rioja tasted as though it was dregs . I complained and was offered another glass but stupidly did not want to make a fuss The bill was £100+ which would have been OK but not with the poor service, poor food and atrocious wine. I did nor want to make a fuss as it was a special visit and it would have spoiled the moment .... I should have done!!!

We had Sunday lunch here the last Sunday before lockdown & it was absolutely delicious. We used an ITISON voucher & I can’t wait to go back. A glass of champagne & a starter from the amazing cold buffet then roast beef (wow) followed by a amazing puds. We came here with an Itison voucher for a two course lunch time meal Choice of three starters,mains and sweets Chose our main to be told they had run out of crabcakes....at one o’clock Only one meat or vegetarian choice then ! If this is the usual menu ,why had they run out of one dish Cullen skink soup starter was very nice,our second choice was the vegetarian haggis,as we don’t like lamb.It was also good Drinks expensive,plus a service charge added on Nothing startling decor wise Tables very close together Looking forward to coming here A bit disappointing

Wir waren zwei von den 78000 Touristen, die Edinburgh zu "Hogmanay", also dem schottischen Silvesterfest, besucht haben. In weiser Voraussicht hatten wir über die Toruismusagentur ein Abendessen im Hotel du Vin gebucht, ansonsten wäre am 31.12. wohl nur McDonald möglich gewesen. Das Dreigangmenue bestand aus Wildpastete, wahlweise Fischfilet "Wellington" im Blätterteig oder Tagliata vom Rehrücken und einem Dessert.Das Essen war nicht schlecht, aber es war Massenabfertigung. Die Wildpastete war kaum gewürzt und liess die Gewürze vermiassen, welche Wild erst zum Wild machen: Etwas Wacholder, ein Hauch Nelken. Das hier schmeckte nur nach Fleisch mit Salz. Ähnlich sparsam waren Fisch und Rehrücken gewürzt, nicht schlecht, aber auch kein Hochgenuss. Enttäuschend war auch die Weinbegleitung, insbesondere angesichts des Anspruchs der Namensgebung des Hauses. Weisswein und Rosé, glasweise ausgeschenkt, schmeckten so, als sei die offene Flasche schon mehrere Tage im Kühlschrank gestanden - abgestanden, ohne jegliche Brillanz. Wir haben die Gläser halbvoll stehen lassen, was eigentlich nicht unsere Gewohnheit ist.Positiv zu vermerken ist der professionelle Service und die schöne Einrichtung des Restaurants. Vielleicht müssen wir nochmals wiederkommen, wenn der Stress eines Silvestermenues nicht auf der Küche lastet.

Cenamos, una vez más, en Bistro du Vin, parte del Hotel du Vin, que fue, como siempre, una excelente experiencia. La comida y el servicio fueron de primera clase y el equipo siempre es amable y acogedor. Tiene un gran ambiente, con numerosos "escondites" extravagantes donde puedes tomar una copa tranquila, si lo deseas. Alternativamente, si está buscando algo más animado, puede reunirse en el bar del entresuelo, que tiene un ambiente encantador.

We were a part of a tour group who stayed here and had a dinner and and breakfast. The dinner was with our tour group, we were to get a free drink and a meal. The staff were not told about the free drink we were to get, so we had to follow that up to ensure we weren't charged. The meal was one option for all, not sure if the tour company demanded this or the restaurant just did this on their own. Bottom line, I did not enjoy the meal, and judging by the amount of risotto sent back, many others did not like it either. The breakfast was much better, lots of choices and the meal was delicious. The staff at both dinner and breakfast seemed to be put out by any requests. The best employee there was the bar keep who was very pleasant and no request was too big. The ambience is nice in this place, but staff need more training regarding customer service.

This restaurant was a refuge on a busy Friday evening during the festival. Was expecting slow and poor service but how wrong. The staff were prompt and charming. Our food was exceptional - slow roast lamb for my companion and a sole meunière for me. Absolutely delicicious. Together with beautifully cooked side orders of haricots verts, creamed spinach and lyonnaise potatoes. It isn’t cheap but you get what you pay for. A lovely experience.

We got breakfast included with our room, so ate here every morning but one (got room service on Saturday since we had an early tour booked). Breakfast menu is not large but does offer good variety from Continental Breakfast to Full English Breakfast. There is a fully-enclosed outdoor patio for lunch or evening drinks and snacks (when it isn't raining). They offer Afternoon Tea (we didn't try this) and a good variety on the dinner menu. The Onion Soup is really good! Prices are reasonable for Edinburgh.

We went for dinner on a Friday. We were immediately sat but it felt like the maitre d' was the only person who could actually take orders, and she was really welcoming and friendly. There were at least 5 waiters and waitresses but nobody could take our order and they kept calling on someone else, and it took more than 15 minutes for our empty plates to be taken away. The evening was still enjoyable though as the food and the wine were amazing. The salmon was really fresh and the beetroot risotto was perfectly cooked. I'd happily go back if they sort out their issues with the service.

We did not stay here but booked for dinner in the bistro. The food and service were excellent. It is not cheap. The Steak was £28 and £24.50 for fish. The streak was beautifully cooked. Only dis appointing thing was an £8.50 service charge which is poor in my opinion. Regardless of the service standard you will incur this.

We ate here with a tour group and had such a lovely meal. The staff worked hard to serve everyone promptly. Granted, we dined from a pre-fix menu with limited choices. My husband had the smoked salmon pasta dish and I had the vegetarian haggis. No one else in our group ordered it, but it was beautifully made and had beets and goat cheese as well. Ask your server about it. It is worth a try. Would definitely try then again if in the area. The hotel has a beautiful courtyard as well.

Tenía grandes esperanzas para este lugar, pero me pareció horrible. La falta total de condimentos en el main fue especialmente un gran error de novato. Se le dio el menú para mirar, esperó una eternidad a que regresara el mozo, pidió que le dijeran a la migaja que no quedaba nada. Obviamente, no pensó en decirnos eso para empezar. Conozco otros que han estado desde entonces y algunas de las opciones no estaban disponibles. Si hay un menú fijo con solo 3 opciones de entrante, principal y postre, faltar una o dos reduce drásticamente las opciones. El lugar estaba lleno, muy ruidoso y no hay un toque personal. No te hacen sentir bienvenido. Te arrastran, te alimentan y luego te arrastran. Nunca volveré! ! !

We arrived with a booking on a Friday night but the restaurant was not busy. I had looked on their website before arriving for an idea of their menu items. There are three menus on the web, we were offered one when we were seated. I enquired about the others and the waitress went off to consult and then reappeared with a second menu, but the tasting menu did not get a mention. Wine is on the expensive side - we went for their cheapest red and it was very good. I just cannot detect the added value in a bottle costing three or four times what the waiting staff are earnng per hour. Portion sizes are not large but the food is well prepared and presented. Ambiance is pleasant with a relaxed feel.

We arrived slightly early and were given a choice of tables. The staff were very chatty and polite. I’m so pleased we pre booked as the restaurant was full. The hotel is very pretty and the 2 areas of the restaurant very attractive. We had some snacks and then the steak with a bottle of red and 2 sides. The red and steak were both very good but the sides were a little disappointing. Small portion of skinny fries and a very plain boring side salad.

Booked lunch using an itison voucher. From the minute we arrived until we left we had wonderful service. We initially received our glass of bubbly and given lots of time to choose our lunch. The staff at the hotel, in the bar and in the restaurant really made our weekend away special and I can’t praise them highly enough. This was our first experience of the hotel du vin chain but ‘chain’ is not appropriate. You are made to feel special, part of the family almost and you are catered for by people, not employees. This is the highest compliment I can give and would recommend a trip here for any occasion you might have. Special mention to Ashley and Lucas for their efforts in making our stay great.

Vine aquí para bebidas antes de ir a unos espectáculos en la periferia. El personal era muy complaciente, reunir unas pocas mesas para acomodar a 16 de nosotros, nos ayudó con nuestros retos selfie, tomar fotos de grupo de todos nosotros con una naturaleza amable y encantador. We had brunch here on Sunday the service from Anna was fantastic the food especially the rib roast beef was fantastic the only let down was the lack off wine on there list I understand that they are changing over there wine list but that should off been explained when we went to order a bottle off wine and we're told they didn't have that bottle but they did offer a replacement bottle at a extra charge really then we ordered another bottle only to be told that was not available either really very frustrating as I am in the trade I would say if your that short off wine on your wine list you should be doing a daily wine list to save annoying customers. But I would still recommended Sunday brunch here it is fantastic value for money

As some of our group are Mental Health Professionals the fact that the Hotel is in the old asylum seemed fitting! We booked a couple of days earlier and the Hotel checked on any food allergies (one dairy free and one cannot have eggs). The food was fantastic, well presented and an interesting choice. Only disappointment was the service which was quite disjointed, there were lots of staff and the restaurant was not busy, so could not really understand the delays that we encountered. Overall a good experience, but we did not pay the service charge that automatically gets put on the bill.

Pedimos dos vasos pequeños de Pedro Ximénez después de la cena y cuando recibimos la factura, nos cobraron por vasos grandes. Estábamos harto de consultar cosas en este punto que pagamos y la izquierda (aunque lamentó que la mañana después! Fue una noche) caro (150 libras para dos) que haya tantas cosas mal.

We went for our work Christmas night out last night. Where do I start? Had a ask for our coats to be taken and had to ask for our drink which was paid as part of the meal. Not once throughout the evening were were asked if we wanted another drink. The food had all been pre ordered so you would think that would make it easier. When the main meal came we then had to wait 20/30 minutes for the veg to arrive and had to ask for potatoes!! The food was all cold but given we had waited 2 hours between starter and main most people ate it anyway. Some were sent back and the replacement was just as cold. I had the veggie option, cauliflower crumble, I am still looking for the cauliflower amongst the congealed sauce complete with skin. The cheese on my cheese board had obviously been uncovered for a long period of time as it was dry and curled. On the plus side the soup was lovely, thank goodness but not worth the £35 we paid for the whole meal. As we were leaving we discovered that one of our partly had been given a full refund. When we questioned the manager he claimed he did not have enough money to give us all a refund and had given her a refund so that she "would leave"!!! When challenged he very quickly back tracked and claimed I was twisting his words!! Astonishing!!! I don't know who trained him in customer service or their staff on how to treat paying customers but they have failed miserably. We have left our contact details and look forward to hearing from the manager in the next few days.

The bistro has a lovely ambience: warm, light and airy, with a cosy table arrangement. The staff were pleasant and attentive without being intrusive. But: the food was ordinary and the portions so pitifully small that we had to have an early supper. My main course 'bouillabaisse' contained just two 1.5-inch-square pieces of white fish and one 3-inch prawn. The pudding was both small and inedibly sweet and this meagre meal was accompanied by a single, 125ml glass of bubbly. Not impressed.

My friend and I had lunch here yesterday and it was delicious. We opted for the three course lunch priced at £20.95. The menu had changed since the last time we ate here, it now has French influences. For starters my friend had French onion soup and I had a vegetable tart, both were very tasty. The main for both of us was Beef Bourguignon which was amazing, as you cut into it, it fell away, cooked to perfection. Only one thing it was served with a few bits of pancetta, 2 small mushrooms and 2 small onions, it missed some potatoes !!! So we asked for some chips to accompany it. Sweets were profiteroles with ice cream and chocolate sauce. Staff were very attentive to everyone around, as was very busy. Would definitely eat here again, we both thoroughly enjoyed it. I go often and have found the food to sometimes be a bit quirky but generally delicious. Sometimes ithe portions are quite small but could be because I go with special deals. The waitress gave a really clear explanation of the setup and menu and what was included within our gift voucher. The banana bread n butter pudding with rum n raisin ice cream was to die for. My other half particularly loved the second course buffet which had fresh seafood, salads and deli meats with artisan breads. On the critical side the soup and the duck pie were a little too peppery but the pastry was superb. The staff were quietly attentive throughout and overall we had an enjoyable and relaxing meal.
