Visited today for our daughters Birthday (this was noted on the booking). Found the place deserted when we arrived, staff seemed more interested in discussing their evening plans for the football than attending to their customers, didn't even wish my daughter happy birthday. We ordered two Sunday roasts, one surf and turf and from the special menu the salmon fishcakes. When the food was brought out the first issue was with my sons surf and turf as they failed to provide the surf part, rather than taking meal back to the kitchen we were left with half the meal and promised the scampi would come along once it had been cooked. The steak which had been ordered well done, was at best medium rare as was still very bloody not only this but the peas were hard and tasteless. The roast dinners (one turkey and one gammon) when they arrived were not warm including the veg (with the exception of the roast potatoes) and the meat had the appearance of being reheated. The final meal of fishcakes was OK but the fishcakes were clearly not homemade and were very dry. Sadly, we were unable to feedback directly as the waitress did not return for a table check after delivering the food, in fact we had to pay at the bar in the end, even the person taking our money didn't ask if we had enjoyed our meal. Clearly some training issues. Very disappointing, so despite being our local we won't be returning.

Another great pub. No meals & no under 21s. Sandwiches available at the bar(cheap). Staff friendly, some great beers. Well priced.

We went for Sunday lunch for mothers day. All good, staff were friendly and helpful and the Land Lady even got us a cushion for my 103 year old grandmother. Food took a while to arrive, When it arrived all the meals were good except mine. We had a lasagne, a roast beef dinner, steak and chips and finally my meal - chilli con carne. All my families meals were a decent size except mine. The actual chiili con carne part was a very small portion indeed. So we questioned it and the waiter went off to check and returned to tell us 'The chef says thats the size it comes as'. So I sat and ate my modest portion. There was loads of plain rice on my plate but sadly lacking on chilli con carne. Later on when we came to pay we mentioned it again and was told by a different waiter they are set sizes. So we said back to him if you could pass on our feedback about the portion of chilli con carne was way too small. So that kind of ruined our experience really. Smashing evening with friends. Harlan the waiter kept us laughing and we in turn entertained him. Tremendous fun. Brilliant food

I went with a walking group on reccomendation from others. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality, speed of service, and portion size. Reasonably priced and extensive menu.

It was great to see this pub had reopened as I used to go there years ago so was really excited to visit the Horse and Jockey. Unfortunately the excitement soon vanished once we arrived. It’s such a shame that the staff have no idea about hospitality and making customers feel welcome. I was asked for the name of the booking and pointed to a table. After 5 minutes I got up and went to the bar to order some drinks as it was obvious nobody was going to come and ask. To be fair, the food was really nice so well done chef, unfortunately your front of house staff let you down. Our glasses were empty yet the staff behind the bar were chatting and one on her phone texting away. Totally oblivious to customers. This could be a great place but with the staff’s approach to paying customers, I think it will be shutting again. If you want some assistance with hospitality, I’m more than happy to help as it would be a real shame for the owners if this fails. Food great, staff need training.

Awful meal! Do not recommend! Steak was rubbish and the kids burger was cooked pink!!! Honestly if you are a family I’d definitely avoid! Also no one came over once food had been served to ask how the meals were etc service was not great!

The service and food was excellent from start to finish. The steak was perfectly cooked...compliments to the chef😁. We would definitely recommend this place for somewhere too eat and a lovely atmosphere. We will definitely be eating here again

Absolutely dreadful experience regarding the food. Been here in the past and used the park for the kids and had a few drinks which are spot on. Occasionally we’d have lunch which was ok but what you’d generally expect from a pub grub, did the job. On this particular occasion though we went for dinner, what a massive mistake that was. Steak was like chewing on a placenta, kids burger was pink, chips could have done with more potato to go with the overused fat and the cottage pie had less grains of seasoning sprinkled on it than the amount of seasons in a year. Staff never once asked how the meal was (they clearly knew it was appalling and would have been used to negative reviews previously from other customers). Shame really as it’s a great little pub, they just need to hire a decent chef and and put a little more thought into the grub they serve. P.s A lot of the food ordered was the ‘last’ bit of food they had, this spoke volumes in the quality of food we received!!

I called in for lunch today and it was excellent. Good, tasty home cooked food and pleasant staff in a clean and fresh environment. We will definitely be back!

We used to go to this pub a few years ago and it was lovely, great food and service, then it changed ownership and went downhill. It then closed for a time but when I was in Lichfield recently I saw it was once again open ( I don’t live nearby ). I decided to take my mother for lunch to see what it was like and it was lovely, we arrived and were acknowledged by a young lady behind the bar, I wasn’t sure if we had to order at bar or at table but the young lady said she would take our order, she was very polite and the food was very nice indeed, my mother had salmon and I had gammon but there was plenty of options available, food was hot and perfectly cooked, we prefer these style of pubs to the chains that just microwave everything, the food is not expensive and represents good value for money, great food and service and comfortable surroundings, they have still maintained the country pub feel alongside a shabby chic decor and it works perfectly, I did pass on my praise when I settled the bill and we felt our custom was valued , we will definitely be returning, I did ask if we would be able to bring our dog and the reply was yes of course, they are allowed in bar area which is absolutely fine. We had a lovely meal here on a Friday evening. We chose the fishcakes off the special board, which came with new potatoes and salad. The fishcakes were delicious. We had ice cream for dessert, there were lots of lovely puddings to chose from. The service was very good, staff very friendly and attentive. We had a lovely meal, the decor in the restaurant was lovely and they have a nice separate bar area. Would definitely recommend. Thank you🥰

Visited mid week at lunch time. Varied menu, lovely specials. Shown to table, very friendly lady. Orders taken promptly. Starters all lovely, prawn cocktail, calamari and pate. Mains of steak burger and two steaks well cooked. Chips are amazing. God value for money. Attentive staff.

A great disappointment tonight, I had lunch there last week and it was very pleasant. We decided to try dinner tonight, what a disappointment that was. If you like your food straight from a freezer into a deep fat fryer or a microwave then this is the place for you. The calamari as a starter was very stringy which we left unfinished. The main course was even more disappointing. The steak and kidney pudding was hard with cold meat inside, peas like bullets which we also left. The service was good and the quality of the beer was okay. I’m sure there was a board outside which promoted home cooked food. I didn’t see any evidence of that tonight. We will not be returning to this establishment.

We have just left this pub after waiting nearly 30 minutes for our food order to be taken. When we arrived another customer had to ask the barmen if they could order food, so it wasn't just us who had to wait. Finished our drinks and went to the bar and paid for them and complained about the wait. The young man argued with us that he had been too busy to take our oder. He had been very busy play fighting with the barmaid behind the bar instead of looking after customers. He insisted on arguing with us that he had been too busy to serve us, which was a blatant lie. Now sitting at the Inkwell in Lichfield, where our order has been taken very quickly and by a very pleasant young lady unlike our experience at the Coach and Horses.

My brother, who was staying with me, & I went out to this pub for a relaxing lunch. This was my 3rd visit (previous 2 with friends). Excellent, tasty food at very good prices. All freshly cooked and exceptionally speedy service. Varied menu and vegan and gluten free options. Friendly atmosphere and welcoming ambience. A lovely lunch that didn't break the bank.

Wonderful Sunday lunch, piping hot, choice of meats, fantastic range of vegetables beautifully served. Great value for money at £12-13. I really don’t think you could find better anywhere. Plates were hot and a good choice of quality good sized desserts too. Nice cosy place to eat.

Absolutely lovely lunch this afternoon. Service was very quick, good was delicious (I can particularly recommend the battered chicken strips with chilli mayonnaise [pictured half eaten], which was exceptionally succulent and juicy)

My Wife and I called in to get a lunchtime bite to eat after house hunting and dog walking in Lichfield. We ate our meals in the bar area which was exceptionally clean (love the wallpaper) and we enjoyed being there. Our dogs were welcomed, food perfect and the staff were bang on. A good find certainly so, thank you.

The worst meal I have had in.a longtime. Breaded mushrooms were hard as bullets and still frozen inside. Steak ordeo rare but-overcooked and tough, The mushrooms were like leather, inedible. Lang shank had no taste. Chios were cooked in the outside but not all through....

Cosy atmosphere and the food was really good. Service impeccable and food was lovely & hot. Whilst menu isn't vast, there's something for everyone (including dietary requirements)

Lovely decor and very clean. Good choice of meals available, many homemade. Good size portions and nice and hot. The chips are lovely, crisp and chunky. We were a bit full for dessert but thought the choice available was excellent. Highly recommended all round.

We recently went to the newly re-opened and re-decorated pub and were delighted by the experience!On entering the pub there was a hand sanitizer literally opposite the door. The tables were well spaced out and there was plenty of room to manoeuvre around to our table. We were sat quickly and drink orders taken, with the staff able to tell us what they had on offer for non-alcoholic drinkers. We were given time to look through the menu, which in my opinion looked amazing with choices for all. We had the tempura vegetable starter and the king prawn starter and both were amazing, fresh, tasty and just so good!Mains were the fish and chips, and the Jockey burger. And they were honestly fabulous. Then we were told that the burger was made fresh in house and the fish was fresh, not frozen, and battered when ordered! The chips were tasty and the portion size was ample. But the desserts were absolutely amazing. I chose the chocolate tart which after ordering realised was vegan... Expected the usual vegan disappointment. However this was not the case! If more places served vegan food as delicious as this I'd think about becoming one! My partners lemon posset was also delicious. Sharp, tangy and beautifully smooth. Over all this was an amazing experience that I can't wait to repeat on date night!

Visited last night with family and friends and had a great experience.Attentive staff who couldn’t have provided any better service.I’ve read a couple of reviews raving about the seafood platter and it didn’t disappoint. All our food and drinks were spot on and I personally loved the new decor. Loved everything about our visit and I’ll be recommending it to everyone .

After reading the reviews I felt very sceptical about how my evening would go but after visiting I’m starting to question if they went to the same facility because our meal was absolutely fantastic, couldn’t fault the food. Drinks were good and the staff couldn’t have done enough for you or be anymore welcoming, we had a young girl named charlotte who was bubbly and so helpful through out and made some great suggestions (the seafood platter). We had a couple of tapas on our order along with other dishes which were fantastic and I will be returning again to try some other things on the menu! Wish I could give it 6 stars. Fantastic management.

I don’t usually leave a review but i was really impressed after having visited The Horse & Jockey expecting to walk into a traditional, old-fashioned style pub, we were faced with a really contemporary, quirky decor which brings a breath of fresh air to lich! i was quite sceptical about the social distancing measures in place after having read the poor reviews posted this week, however there were plenty of precautions put in place and nothing was too much trouble for any of the lovely waitresses, I will definitely be returning soon!

All in all it filled a gap. Food was ok and staff were nice and polite. I do understand the COVID comments and that they could do with updating the distancing measures. Maybe by serving from one end of the table and the customer bubble passing to each other rather than over the shoulder service

We have visited the Horse and Jockey weekly for many years, to which we always considered it a friendly, respectable and traditional country pub, and we have returned to what I can only describe as childs day care after the COVID-19 lockdown... the decor truly is atrocious and it no longer feels like the place me and my family held so close to our hearts, we could not enjoy our meal when everything felt like such a joke... familiar staff also seemed to have diminished ! Very disappointing visit, and unfortunately we shall not be returning

Went to the Horse and Jockey as a regular. Did not recognise anyone. The staff were too close to each other and before I left I watched as they went from customer to customer without washing their hands, clearly not the brightest staff to employ. Food was bland, dry, and tasteless. My pint was strange and not what I am used to from this quaint little pub. My complaints fell on deaf ears. Altogether an awful experience and I will never go again, Ever,!

Chose the Horse and Jockey as our first pub experience since the start of lockdown. Very disappointed by the whole experience. As an older couple we thought it was very worrying how the staff, who we did not recognise, were not conforming to social distancing. The décor was shocking and aimed at families with children. Sweets in jars and multicoloured everything. We decided to sit in the garden, although there was litter here and there. We ordered from the menu and we had fish and chips. The fish was an obvious frozen fish and the chips were frozen too. The beer had a strange tang to it. Overall, it was the most disappointing experience. We’ve been visiting the Horse and Jockey for years and we loved the food and chats with Justine and Carl the previous owners and all the lovely staff like Jodie and Julie who have been looking after us for years. Unfortunately, we will not be going again, or recommending the Horse and Jockey to anyone. Such a shame how a traditional friendly pub can change for the worse!

Called in on way home from tamworth for lunch.chose a sandwich and sitting in the garden.food was fine but drinks were warm,my shandy was flat.Biggest disappointment was lack of covid precautions, staff not wearing masks or visors, no hand sanitisation and staff didn't seem to distance from one-another.Need to up their game quickly.

Came here for a stop off drink on the way to a meal as a group of 4, was told to go to a table at the back off the restaurant which clearly had reserved written on there. No one came over to us for 10 minutes or more so we were all just sitting there we asked for some service when the waitress begrudgingly came over to us she decided after us being there for 15 minutes now was the time to tell us 1 of our party needed to show ID why this wasn't said 15 mins before is beyond me bearing in mind all party was over 30 2 of them being over 50, maybe they realised they had put us on a reserved table. as we got up to leave the waitress seemed to find it amusing and keep laughing about it while we was leaving and continued to follow us out the door the other staff on the bar found this amusing too very unprofessional and very embarrassing for us. No hand sanitizers no social distancing measures in place all in all a shambles.

We booked a meal here for the first time in five years as we had heard it changed hands. Unfortunately though we won’t be in any rush back. The staff were very pleasant and accommodating but the food wasn’t the best and the beer wasn’t well kept. Hopefully it will improve over time as new management settle in, but this is not a place I would recommend.

Called on the off chance on the way from Birmingham for a late lunch, as previously called a few months ago and had an excellent meal. Food was a little disappointing. Not as good as former visit under previous owners. Decor a bit miss match. Biggest concern did not feel covoid safe. No masks worn by staff. No hand sanitisation. Staff not socially distancing and over familiar.

We had a lovely family meal at the H&J now under new management. The decor was much lighter and airy, and the menu was new. We chose a tapas platter to share as the seafood one had sold out and the kids had pizzas and burgers. They also had deserts too. Portion sizes were good and there was plenty to choose from off the menu. Staff were lovely and friendly! We’ll be back!

We booked on the off chance as we were aware they are under new management and what a change for the better! Lovely friendly owner and staff, some are a little experienced at the moment but have the right attitude and will learn quickly.The food was delicious and all home made and excellent quality, the menu choice had been improved too.Starters we had were,Potted crab - delicious Belly pork - amazing Ham hock terrine with piccalilli - beautiful Main courses were equally as goodlasagna,Fish and chips Burger and chips.These owners actually know how to store their beers so now safe to drink beers on tap once again!Glad to see the new owners put their mark on the place. After giving up on the horse and jockey, glad to say we will be back to being a regular for both food and drinks.

We visited on Valentines Day and chose from the special Valentines menu which had 3 choices for each course and a bottle of wine all for £49.95!I chose the mushrooms, belly pork and cheesecake and my partner had the ham hock, chicken and chocolate fondant. It was all presented and cooked to perfection, we loved it allSpecial thank you to the staff who were very attentive, nothing was too much trouble We will be back soon

service was a little slow - and they need to update their promotional banners which still stay sunday lunch £9.95 - it was actually £10.95 on the menu!Meat was nice, but like another reviewer said, not enough vegetables served - one small bowl between 2 people is a little tight!Overall portions could be a little bigger.

Well not eaten there but as member of the tennis club next door we often pop in for a drink and a chat, the bar area is always warm and friendly and the bar staff, Julie Emily, jodie and Nicole (hope I got your names right LOL), always up for a bit of fun and a joke. My son has eaten here recently and he said the meal was very tasty.

We had a party of 18 booked in for a three course meal. The staff looked after us really well, the service was excellent, the food wonderful and was promptly served and really enjoyed by everybody!! Would definitely revisit again in the future and would highly recommend A+++++++++

we both had pies for lunch the steak and ale pie i had with fresh vegetables and chips,its was absolutely beautiful and fresh,the staff were all very friendly and helpful,will certainly go again

Booked a table for four knowing that three of us would be able to choose from the main/vegetarian/vegan menu, but I asked the owner if my brother’s specific dietary requirements could be met: the chef contacted my brother and a suitable starter & main were sorted - most impressive. On arrival, we received a warm welcome and the service throughout the evening was excellent. Nothing is too much trouble and tweaks can be made when ordering, e.g. chips instead of rice. The tasty food is well presented on a variety of crockery and the portions are just right. Three of the four meals were faultless (Mediterranean tart, gammon & the ‘special’), but the 3-bean Provençal needed re-heating and the accompanying naan bread was rubbery. The latter hasn’t put us off and we will definitely be returning in the near future.

Went at lunchtime. Staff not the best. Until what seemed like the manager .owner arrived. Three meals asked for chips with mine. When food arrived advised staff what I asked for. Her reply I never heard you. Which I was then left too eat a meal I had not asked for. Staff asked during meal about food. Wanted too complain again . But first complaint had been ignored . £46.00 total bill . Left very unhappy.

Visited here on Sunday and I’ve got to say it’s the best Sunday lunch I’ve had!! The beef was cooked pink and was so tender, plenty of vegetables and cauliflower cheese was amazing! We didn’t have pudding as we had no room left Will definitely return soon!

Whilst most of the food was good we felt that five breaded mushrooms for £6 was excessive. The device was slow and not very attentive after eventually we received our starters at different times, the 45 mins wait for the main course to arrive was unacceptable. They need to improve the device speed and the quantity of food supplied with some of their courses.

My mum and stepdad booked this venue for a very special occasion - their Ruby Wedding anniversary. They booked well in advance and even stated which foods were requested.

Attractive large country pub. Good beer choices and food menu. Friendly with a large garden for relaxing and gets good sun

My husband said his steak was one of the best he has had. I had fish and chips which were also stunning. The restaurant is dog friendly so our dog slept in the corner next to our table whilst we ate. Great staff, thanks.

Was not expecting more than just the average pub with mediocre food (judging by the appearance) when I went to catch up with some old friends with my hubby on Monday night . However the service was outstanding and the young staff were extremely accommodating . The food was presented exquisitely and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it ! Shame I was too full for dessert as I got very envious watching the others have there’s... will definitely be back soon!!

Me and my partner visited here a few times before and have always found it delightful, we visited on Tuesday night for James’ birthday and it was excellent.. I would like to thank all the staff, the food was outstanding I have never been more complimentary about a curry before - plenty of flavour without the burn. Presentation was also top notch.

Dined last night with my better half, we had the new ribs dish and fish and chips. I was pleasantly surprised with the ribs and the fish looked mega! Have visited a few times before and have requested fish and chips to be back on the menu as it was years ago; I’m so glad they took their customers advice on board. Presentation and taste-spot on.

The food is amazing and the service you get there is really good the staff go out off there way to make u feel at home would go there again

pleasant experience of good food and friendly service, good beers available and pleasant surroundings. Perfect place for an afternoon or evening dinning

We used to use this establishment on a regular basis as we enjoyed the fact that the food was fresh and nicely presented. On our last couple of visits we have noticed a decline not only in the food but also that the staff do not seem interested in serving you. Waitress playing with her long hair then serving food is not really hygienic. Such a shame as it used to be such a fabulous little place to eat. I think we will be looking for another place to eat in future.

Visited here a few times now and never been disappointed, we were happy to see some new specials on the menu. I had the fish and chips and my partner had the tandoori chicken burger which were both beautiful! We then tried the billionaire salted caramel pudding which was AMAZING! We will defiantly return!

Visited on a Thursday afternoon - 3 mums and 3 kids. Uninspiring greeting when we went to order food - ‘I’ve got no burgers, no ham, no meatballs’ Hmmmm ok. I ordered a ploughmans with a bit of extra cheese instead. To this day I’m still pondering what the ‘cheese’ was. I honestly think it was a defrosted slab of pastry!!!!! Waitress swore it wasn’t and that they’d just noticed one of their fridges had broken (very concerning indeed). I’d sooner starve than go back to this place!!!

Not the place it used to be. Friday lunchtime and not many customers, no atmosphere.The meals are not at all inspiring.They used to serve a nice bowl of mixed vegetables, but not now, the only vegetable they seem to know about is peas, and they were hard! The plate with gammon steak was swimming with something, juice or fat or both. Service ok.

5 Family members out together enjoying the company and surroundings. Toilet facilities important as one member in a wheelchair, good one level access to both toilets and tables. Staff very attentive and accommodating. Food faultless, one member vegan good variety of meals too. Will return very soon

Fantastic meal very nice staff again was very friendly we took people there that hadn't been there before and said how much they enjoyed it

Visited here yesterday with my family for Father's Day what out standing service we received here once again the roast dinners were mouth watering. We all had a mix of meats which are beef pork and turkey.also my dad who is vegan had the root vegetable stew which was mouth watering. I highly recommend this restaurant to all of my friends and future diners you will not be disappointed. The staff are very polite and friendly. We will be back very soon

We used to come here a lot when they prided themselves on having a decent vegan menu. Now they just have a limited selection of vegan and vegeatarian dishes but we thought we'd try it anyway for Fathers Day..

Went on Friday and ordered the salmon from the specials board, which cost £16.95! It consisted of a very small piece of salmon on 5 lettuce leaves, one tomato and new potatoes. Very disappointed as we have had reasonable meals there before. Certainly won’t be going again anytime soon.

Been here for lunch and dinner , excellent friendly staff ,food fabulous .highly recommend one family member gluten free very helpful indeed ,will be visiting again soon .

Wonderful food excellent service as always. Had a lovely birthday meal with friends everything wonderful as usual.

Visited on a Wednesday evening with some friends, had a lovely meal, we all had beef lasagne which was better than any Italian restaurant’s lasagne I’ve ever tasted. Thanks again to the staff for making ur evening enjoyable and relaxing
