Unfortunately, I cannot review the food, as after waiting over 30 minutes for someone to come and serve me, I decided to give up and go elsewhere. The restaurant was not busy at all being a Wednesday night (at most 10 tables, with most having one person dining from individuals staying at the hotel). However, I was obviously not a priority and it was more important for the staff to stand behind the bar laughing and joking with the locals, rather than serve customers!! Its fair to say I will not coming back!!

Excellent experience when taking breakfast. One member of party had to leave table to take business call. Breakfast was kept warm and offer was made to pack in takeaway containers if helpful to customer. We were made most welcome and were served in a very helpful and courteous manner. All credit to staff for dealing so well with "difficult" situation.

We had an awful lunch, the vegetables were out of date. My grandmother was younger than the asparagus. Just really terrible service. DO NOT have the mayonnaise or ketchup as they leave them out in the sunshine for hours!

Starters were nice, pate was fine ( you really cannot go wrong with pate) and the Turkish warp was a bit odd but tasted ok – but then it went down hill ! the sea bass was nice, but the steaks were not good at all ! the sirloin was ok but verging on well done ( asked for medium) and tough to cut ! it was also charred black on the outside – what a way to ruin a steak by basically burning it ! The Rump steak was inedible ! tough, completely over cooked, so charred on the outside that you could barely get a knife through it Both steaks tasted of charcoal The salads had were simplistic with NO dressing ! who does that these days ? The ambience well ? you were not in a restaurant but basically a pub converted in to a restaurant area – but not a nice restaurant area ! Service was very slow We will not be back – we didn’t complain as we had other things to focus on that evening and my mother would not have been happy with a fuss – but if I had been there with my partner we would have !!!!!

My friends and I decided to try here for breakfast and I wish we hadn't bothered. Cooked breakfast served on a small side plate, hardly any food on it. Continental bit was a few pastrys and cereals, nothing special and we felt rushed as they were tidying everything away. Not worth the £8.99, will stick to Wetherspoons.

Usually pubs adjoining an hotel can be a bit disappointing, but this one breaks the mould. The food here is superb, offering some different options. The devilled whitebait was superb and the calamari was the most tender I've had. The service and staff were first rate. Very friendly and accommodating. We had breakfast there too and this was also great value. A really nice pub run well by great young staff.

This is a Green King pub, which is unusual as it is right beside a Premier Inn, but they work in harmony just as a Beefeater pub would. It was nice to see that the drinking area was a good size and not squashed into a corner the way they sometimes do in these type of restaurant pubs. Our first impression was when we called in lunch-time for a cup of tea as our room wasn't quite ready at the Premier Inn. The car park seemed to be very full but the Horse & Hounds must be a 'Tardis' as it had swallowed up all the passengers, it was noisy in there at all. The next visit later that day was at 5.15PM. Unfortunately the only person who seemed to be on duty was the barman! so had to wait for him to finish taking the money and also pouring drinks and serving them, but we were in no hurry, although I noticed one couple who came in after us walked out, they didn't want to wait. This I must say here is a 'Table' service place, orders taken at the bar, as our tea was earlier, was brought over to our table. Our drinks orders in the evening were taken by a waitress and eventually brought to the table. I say eventually as the first lass who took the order was working another part of the bar, another young lass came and asked what we wanted was informed that our drinks order had been taken and only then were they brought over to us, but there was a short wait. After much deliberation over the menu I ordered for dinner the 8oz Sirloin with chips and my partner ordered Whole tail Scampi seasoned chips and I am sure she ordered crushed peas but she had to crush them herself. There was so much we could have chosen, all food that we liked, from Indian to fish dishes. The steak was as I asked, medium side of rare; still pink in side and I didn't hear any complaints from my partner about the Scampi, which is something as she is a retired chef! No we didn't try either a starter or a dessert. Normally when out I will have 1/2 pints of beer if they have an ale I like, this way I can possibly taste a couple of different ones and although I ordered 1/2 pint with the barman when he seated us and my partner ordered a medium wine (175ml) I ended up with what looked like a 50ml glass, nearly a pint and my partner got a 250ml glass of red, so for their possible up-selling they lost out on profit as what we wanted would have been ordered again. Their Drinks Menu didn't show Brandy, but on asking they had either Hennessy or Courvoisier and I had one of the 4 Single Malts they had. Yes although the wait at times because I think of a shortage of staff it was a pleasant meal and a nice pub/restaurant.

We chose this restaurant for a birthday dinner based on location and price. We were not disappointed on location or price or indeed service, but quality was not a strong point. Several of our party of 8 had a curry, which had a strange taste, I had a steak which tasted good, but could not be described as tender. We believe the restaurant will be refurbished shortly, so hopefully some of the issues will be resolved in the process.

Coming to the end of a 5 week stay at the adjoining Premier Inn, I have thoroughly enjoyed both the breakfasts and the friendly smiling staff. What a wonderful way to start the day. The continental buffet (included for full breakfast customers) is good, with plenty of options. The cooked breakfasts we always freshly prepared and had an excellent choice, I think I only attempted the "Full English" once, then reverted to a different selection each day, I was even persuaded to try the vegetarian sausages: a tasty surprise :) I know the restaurant is due to close for refurbishment shortly, but I'm sure when they reopen the whole place will have an updated look and even better menu Tina, Vale and Gabby have given me a lovely start to every day of my stay, and have made my long trip away from home much more bearable. Thank you all, I will miss you in the mornings now I am moving on

As we were staying in the premier Inn next door and tired after a long drive we decided to eat in the Horse and Hounds. I have reservations on eating in chain pubs and this was bourne out with what was served up. I ordered the BBQ basket on the grounds of how far could that go wrong. Well, the meat was almost stone cold, the French fries limp and barely cooked. The BBQ beans turned out to be plain baked beans straight from the tin...and yes, cold.I'd advise that if you are staying in the (very comfortable) premier Inn and are tired go further afield and give this pub a miss...it will only leave you dissapointed.

Sadly I Would not recommend to anybody :(We were really looking forward to our breakfast. We were staying at the premier inn (which was fantastic value/clean/spacious) & booked the breakfasts through them.Sadly the mature waitress was abrupt, unfriendly & argumentative immediately on entering the restaurant as she disliked the room numbering in the adjoining Premier Inn.The cooked breakfast that we were told was 'cooked to order' was disgusting! You had to wait for them to bring you your order and when it came:The sausages bent when you tried to cut them, the scrambled eggs were inedible. It was obvious they were reheated not freshly cooked. The continental breakfast was a sparse selection of croissants in plastic coverings, six muffins, small boxes of cereal. The toasting machine burnt the edges of toast leaving the middle uncooked even if you adjusted the element to a lower heat. The advertised fresh berries were clearly from a frozen pack that had been defrosted and were mushy & not appetising. The coffee came from a flask & tasted awful. The small selection of yoghurts included only 4 flavoured low fat Sainsburys ones not Yeo Valley as advertised, were very watery. We hardly ate and left and will never return. We eat out frequently and this was the worst experience from the mature waitress and meal ever.

I was staying overnight at the next door Premier Inn and this restaurant was an easy option in terms of walking distance and hunger solving. The service was very cheerful and welcoming and my order over the bar taken swiftly. I chose corn dogs, originally an American offering, but these were very tasty. To follow I had cod and chips and because I can't abide peas ordered some onion rings. All food was delivered promptly as I've said the dogs were good. Not so the cod and chips. I couldn't fault the plate size, it was a hearty portion, the chips were pretty good, but the cod had thick batter and as a result the fish was underdone. I'm guessing it was cooked from frozen. Another 2/3 minutes and it would have been fine. Sadly same story with the onion rings, not crispy just floppy. It was so close to pretty good pub food, but just missed.

A standard pub with a selection based on the generic menu. Although well priced this pub does produce a good meal, well cooked and presented. One minor observation, while having breakfast I discovered that they do not have butter, what, no butter for my toast, well apparently they have changed their supplier and now only provide (plastic) spread, no doubt a cost saving idea.So if you like your toast well buttered best to take your own.

I had a burger with pork and my partner a steak, both were really nice and tasty and plenty too, I would have liked pudding but had no room left.a great value meal and wine too.We went again in the morning for breakfast, we had pre ordered through premier inn, and were met at the door by a very helpful member of staff, she showed us to our table and explained we could have basically anything we wanted from what was on offer, we both ordered a full english, we could have had cereal, croissants, muffins, yoghurt and toast too if we wanted, but the full english itself was by far enough.
