Out on a bike ride and my wife was beginning to flag a bit. We aimed for the nearest pub and on arriving discovered they were only doing a BBQ instead of a roast. So we headed for the Horse & Groom because of its google review. So glad we did. Had a lovely meal. The creamy horseradish was much more subtle than I would usually go for but mixed with the gravy and eaten with the brisket was a perfect combination. My wife also absolutely loved her burger. Highly recommended!

We came here on Sunday in a party of 11. The food was delicious. I had a lovely slow roast beef dinner followed by a sublime pear tarte tatin. Everyone seemed to really enjoy their meals judging by the empty plates. The quantity of the food served was very plentiful and the service was excellent. An excellent experience and a lovely place to eat.

I and my two guests had lunch on a very wet and miserable Saturday, and this explains the atmosphere being a little lacking - we had the place almost to ourselves. But good for us! I hesitate to give the 5-star review that is so well-deserved, only for fear of not being able to get a table next time. We were made very welcome and the food was superb. I consider myself very lucky indeed to have this is my "local" and this, my first visit, will certainly not be my last. Thank you, Jerome and Stacey.

Very disappointed with our visit to the Horse and Groom last night for a friends birthday. I chose the leg of lamb from the menu, when it arrived I was shocked to see a small square of pulp on top mashed potatoes and kale. This was served by the chef himself to our table, I questioned him as to the fact I ordered leg of lamb and was told by him that the bones and fat had been removed, I explained that this is not what I ordered nor what was on the menu but he walked away saying Enjoy ! I might point out that this small square of pulp was £24.99 Because it was my friends birthday I didn’t want to cause a scene so I ate it but did not enjoy it at all. When the waitress came to take our plates she asked if everything was ok with our meals, I told her that I didn’t enjoy mine at all and that I didn’t expect my leg of lamb to be just a small square of mushed meat, that I was expecting an actual shank of lamb, which is how it was on the menu, to which she didn’t reply and continued to clear the table. Very expensive, very bad attitude of staff and a spoilt birthday for my friend who chose the venue for her birthday celebrations.

Positives: * exceptional cooking. The food which comes out of the kitchen is a wow. On this basis alone I intend to return. * The draught beers are in excellent condition and well chosen. * the prices are competitive. Negatives: * sadly the pub was badly flooded and so they needed to gut the historic building. It now has identikit furniture, white paint and fake electric fires. * no dogs allowed in the “pub” ie it is not a pub but a restaurant * in keeping with the French cooking, the front of house staff apply the French attitude to service - ie rude. A single waiter attending the whole restaurant, run off their feet. * condiments (eg salt , pepper) are provided in small paper sachets like a bad cafe.

This place is amazing! Can't believe I haven't encountered this before. Amazing food that was delicious, absolutely gorgeous. The chef came out and told us about how the venison burger that I had was from the local park and he was great. The beer was really good - great selection and I really enjoyed both. The price was also really good - £11 for a wonderful venison burger with chips, coleslaw and salad. I am amazed with this place - cannot recommend it enough. All the poor reviews were freak accidents as far as I'm concerned.

We went there because one of our party remembered, years ago, having really good bangers and mash with an amazing gravy. We weren't disappointed. Two slight disappointments were the range of puddings, reduced further because crepes weren't being done that night, and the noise from the road occasionally distracting us while we sat outside in the pretty garden. The sausage and mash with gravy is definitely worth a visit. You can choose to have two different types which can make for a good range among a group. There was also a good range of alternatives including at least a couple of interesting fish dishes.

Visited the Horse & Groom a few days ago with a group of close friends. What a wee find this is! Bicester is lacking in the restaurant department somewhat, so to find a pub not too far out of the town that has a decent menu was a good start. The pub is run by a husband and wife team (yes, just the two of them!!), him in the kitchen and her out front. Our welcome was warm and personal, including a quick run through the menu and specials for the day. The menu is fairly standard for British pub fair, however there are always a few interesting specials on, and the place also specialises in importing curious and interesting sausages from around the world, and also showcasing local British produce. The restaurant can become very busy, so it is worth booking in advance, but even at the peak of the business, we never felt unattended or overlooked. A cosy, quirky little pub with a solid menu, excellent service and a very warm feel. Give it a go!

I had the Sunday roast wrapped in a Yorkshire pudding , This is the first review I’ve ever given but I’m compelled to comment. I doubt the guy that made this today has eaten what he sells. The idea doesn’t work as the Yorkshire pud turns to mush, the gravy for dipping the wrapped Yorkshire in was made by a vegetarian -flavourless. The whole thing had no seasoning and the concept of dipping this wrap in the gravy didn’t work. And it was £7.50
