Food’s usually good and always thought decent quality, but last night it was awful. Hugely disappointed with the quality of the food. Weatherspoons serves better than what we experienced. Food sent back for being cold, and then again for an inedible steak. Ruined the whole experience. Staff were nice and did deal with it well but didn’t adjust the bill to reflect the poor experience we had.

Our sever Marketa made us so welcome and got us everything we needed. The food was fantastically and it’s a lovely cosy environment

Staff extremely friendly and welcoming. Lovely pub, lovely food, prompt service and very pleasant surroundings. Would recommend and definitely going again. Easy to book online too.

Came yesterday for a Sunday Roast. Poor quality food. The meat was like it was from a foil tray type of roast. Not proper Turkey breast meat. Frozen roast potatoes. Veg were disgusting and had a twang to them. Probably frozen . Cabbage was yuk. Parsnips hard and tasteless. The best thing was the yorkshire pudding. I wont be returning again. We gave it another try after saying we wouldn't return earlier this year. I had been coming to this pub for years but over the last year has gone right downhill. Don't waste your money. What a shame

Absolutely love it here, marketa is amazing. The landlord Jamie (chris 😂) is just brilliant. Highly recommend the amazing food, warm atmosphere. Xx

Very good service by Karen, the food came quickly after ordering and was very tasty and very well cooked. The ambiance of the whole pub felt good, it was our first visit we will return and will recommend to friends and family.

Sadly a bit hit and miss this visit. We booked a meal quite last minute and could see from booking times that it would be a bit busy and it was. Surprisingly we didn't have to wait too long to be served and for our food to arrive. On the plus side the staff were lovely and our server was so nice. I had fish and chips which was ok but chips were sparse and tasted as though they had been around quite a while. My husband ordered the mixed grill and first of all they forgot to add the steak. When we asked they said they had forgotton and bought out a very sad (and small!) looking piece of steak on a side plate. It was inedible and the rest of the meat was overcooked and dry. Such a shame.

Never disappoint, one of the best pubs in chelmsford drinks, food, atmosphere 👍🏼 Sunday menu is delicious the beef rib melting in your mouth! Loved it

Very very disappointed. Ale pie looked like it had been reheated 3 times. Could not eat the pastry. Veg and chips were lukewarm. Made waitress aware and she offered to get another one which was declined. My gammon was tough and chips lukewarm. Paid the bill in full. Waitress made no offer of a discount. We often pop in and have drinks and bar snacks but after tonight we shall not return.

A tired place after obviously a busy easter. No chicken available and it appears no chef, with the manager in the kitchen. One meal was returned as the brocolli was hard and unable to be cut. The plate was returned within seconds, but minus some of the original food, which was left in the kitchen. Clearly the pork was substandard, dry and inedible. The fish n chips looked reheated, dry and unappetising with dried out discoloured peas. Fish was sparse and poorly "hand battered" All in all a poor experience. The waitress was totally hung out to dry and the manager did not face the music and attempt to apologise. One main meal was not charged for as a token but really the Green King manager should have shown some concern.

Took the family for my partners birthday and found the experience very poor food was of poor quality staff unfriendly and overpriced for quality of food. Had to send my starter back twice as the sauce was cold and ended up on the 3rd try with no sauce on the starter, steak and ale pie was over cooked making the pastry inedible, pork belly was 3 small pork strips and small portion off mash all though very tasty not worth the price charged, when we got the bill there was drinks added that we had not ordered ( over £20 worth) good job I checked as don’t normally, table was covered in something sticky not sure what that was and the staff very unwelcoming all in all very poor. Will not be returning soon

We visited on Easter Bank Holiday Monday evening as a family of three. Food was overall ok. Decent starters and tasty burgers for main course. However, the chips were lukewarm for all three main course plates we had. We also overheard the table next to us saying that their starter was cold. But because of the amount of time it took to come we didn’t complain as it would caused even longer wait for our main courses. It was very short staffed for a Bank Holiday when pubs would normally be very busy and we had too long a wait between courses as a result which was very disappointing. Our waitress was friendly but we could see she was stretched. A lot of improvement required for us to visit again

Could improve on the cooking. Price to high for quality of food. Sorry but was disappointed with whole experience. Staff not as friendly as before.

We used to love this place but the quality has really gone down hill. We came for the roast dinner which used to be amazing, but now is average at best. My husband had the 7 hour rib of beef...he hardly had any beef and what he did have was mainly fat. The roast potatoes on all our dinners were hard and seem a bit like frozen packet potatoes and the veg was clearly frozen veg. It used to be all so fresh and now seems like the chef is just microwaving things. We also sent back the cauliflower cheese twice as they kept giving it to us burnt. The waiter then said the chef said all of them will be like this as "its just how we do it". I have never been served burnt food before and told that's just how its done. The gravy was also lumpy. The only reason I have given this 3 stars and not less is because my turkey was nice and so was the pig in blankets and the yorkshire puddings. However, overall we were really disappointed with the standard of the food. We wont be coming back for a while.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch, served by Milena who was very friendly and efficient. Very busy but meals arrived very quickly, we all had the roast option which was really good. There was a good atmosphere of a traditional pub. A good menu with an extra menu options available. Would definitely return.

The waitress was friendly and polite, but the food was very poor. The kids’ berries with their pancakes were from a frozen bag which made the pancakes soggy. Vegetarian and vegan cooked breakfasts were really unappetising: overcooked and dry sausages, obviously only just defrosted avocado (slimy and tasteless) dried out mushrooms, brittle cold toast and no hash browns. We had to ask where they were and were told (despite being listed on the vegan breakfast) that they had been left off as the frier didn’t contain vegan oil. They came out when we had all but finished having been put in the oven. It’s not hard to offer up a decent cooked breakfast but it’s apparently beyond the H&G. A real shame that the quality of cooking and food isn’t better as the pub itself is lovely. We wouldn’t go back for the food.

Went again to this pub and asked for the Gammon with salad instead of chip peas and a fried egg - whilst I admit I got what I asked for and the salad had a lot in it - it wasn't really comparable to the amount of food I declined- the reason for the declined food is I'm on a diet and so wish to good especially as weigh day is the next day. Otherwise, good overall service and fast too

Very nice pub restaurant just outside of Chelmsford, and is a good option for a visit. Food was mostly very nice apart from a cold pie centre that was quickly whisked away to be nuked 😅. All very tasty indeed. Service was good, and staff friendly etc as you expect. Room for improvement though because as a booked party of 5 with two oap's we were taken to our reserved table which had a bench with no back and the other side a wall where one place fell away at the back where the window was, so it was a barable but uncomfortable meal for some of us. We did not complain because it was the only available table, but it might be an idea if they check with booking guests if they are thinking of using it. Felt more like a casual bar area table used as backup....maybe it was, but its not really suitable for a longer visit. The lady seating us was aware of our concern but did not suggest any option. Only other thing is that the one mens cubicle had a broken seat. Two easily fixable things, otherwise a nice meal out.

I went there for my birthday with family. There was no prosecco as sold out. Had the trio of roast dinner which was very poor. The roast potatoes were undercooked and soggy, the meats were wafer thin and tasteless, the stuffing hard and overcooked and the cauliflower cheese was just chargrilled in the oven with no cheese sauce! Normally enjoy my meals there but will never choose a roast dinner again.

Great local restaurant for dining out with friends and family, staff are always polite and friendly. Food always nice and hot and of good quality, have your food your way always willing to alter what comes up on your plate. Been a few times now and lovely outdoor area when weather gets better

After a month of not catching up with my father, it was lovely to reconnect with him, a lot has happened since we last met, we was served by Karen who works front of house. She already knew my Father but it was the first time we met, she was very welcoming, has a great sense of humour and made me feel, as a young 22 year old lad, one with the pub, if you ever get served by Karen, it’ll feel like coming home from school on a great day to your favourite meal being prepared for you

Visit this pub regularly and all the staff are amazing esp John/ Marketa and Josh, their attentive nature and hospitality is 2nd to none

Beautiful family friendly pub. Staff are friendly and helpful. Food is tasty and reasonably priced. Marketa done a fantastic job in making sure my family and I were well looked after, nothing was too much trouble, and she was fantastic with the kids. Vist here frequently and will continue to do so.

Went by reviews but disappointed. Service was slow. Ordered two roast dinners. Yorkshire ok. One parsnip which was pale and chewy. Tiny roast potatoes that had no colour. One thin slice of beef Horseradish thin and not a lot of taste Vegtables were unimpressive. Ordered...

My family and I popped in for dinner. Good food, relaxing atmosphere. Great service from Karen, who took good care of our family, particularly the differing needs of my two very differently aged children.

As a group of 4 we had lunch. The service and food were excellent. We had starters, main meal and deserts. All food was served hot and nicely presented. Drinks were served and the waiter was friendly and attentive. We would eat here again.

Noah was really good. He is super fast at making drinks and he is very down to earth. The service was amazing!
