Popped in for food this evening, managed to get a table despite being busy. Had chicken schnitzel and haddock and chips, friendly service from the young man behind the bar, Joel and Alison who checked if the food was ok and then cleared the table. Nice food, good atmosphere. Only one comment ....the mushy peas portion was quite modest ! But we will still come for food

We decided to come to the Jockey for a meal tonight. The staff we both welcoming and attentive. We both had a Gammon and it was fine. I'm not sure that we will be regulars but we will visit again soon.

I came with some family members for a golden retriever charity brunch event. It was lovely and so much fun. The staff were very kind and friendly. The service was slow, which is understandable as they were swamped with everyone arriving at the same time! But when the food came it was very nice. I would have breakfast there again.

The first lot of garlic bread which was ordered as a starter arrived burnt, it got replaced only this time it arrived cooked almost enough one side but cold on the other. The main meals didn't fair much better, steak was very poor quality, made my son feel unwell. The chips were under cooked, and the peas were like bullets. I did point the above out at the time of paying, but barman looked like he'd heard it all before. Got a muted sorry, but basically tough. Clearly no quality control in the kitchen from either the chef, that's if it is a chef, or the managerment. Definitely won't be recommending or eating at H&J again.

No Mixed grill! It's the only reason I came . How can you run out? It's hardly like you don't have a fridge or freezer! Very disappointed!

Waiting over forty minutes for table booking time. Brought family for Christmas meal for their first time and very disappointed. Hardly any meat on plates no condiments offered only gravy. We paid over £400 for the meals not including drinks ordered on the day. Paying so much for six family members for their first time dining out at Christmas was a very disappointing experience. I have eaten Christmas dinner here over the years and this is the first time that I have been very unhappy with the experience overall.

Visited on Christmas Day. Food was preordered and only half the pub was in use for food service. Table was under an extremely loud speaker. So loud we could not hear our own conversation. The music wasn’t even remotely Christmassy. It was just loud and awful. Not what anyone would want during Christmas dinner. I asked for it to be turned down but I don’t believe it was. Whilst the most of the food was decent (except the dry, hard gammon) . The service was horrendous. 30 minutes before we were even asked if we wanted a drink after we had been strictly told that it was table service and that we must not go to the bar. Hour and 10 minutes for starters. When the mains were eventually brought over the starter plates still hadn’t been collected so the server shouted at another server to come and move them. Desserts arrived after 2 hours at the table. The entire time we only had one drink. When we asked to order more we were told that they only run the food but would send someone over. No one ever came. When we had finished no one brought the drinks bill. We eventually got up and paid at the till, as we could see our table was rebooked 30 minutes earlier, however we felt like just walking out given the terrible service. Very disappointing for an expensive Christmas Day experience. Will not return

Joel & his team made us feel very welcome. Although it was busy, they were very attentive and we were treated as if we were the only customers they had.

Rude staff. In response to your reply: It's disappointing to hear that I'm not welcome back, though I can't say it's a surprise given how unwelcome we felt during our first visit. This experience speaks volumes about the attitude and approach of the staff, and it seems to stem from the leadership at the top. I hope things improve for the sake of your future patrons. Good value...good service...Great food too!

Have visited the Jockey many times recently and always have amazing food with great service from our regular waitress Alison who is friendly and chatty. Our favourite pub in the area. Wishing all staff a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

We’ve visited this restaurant several times before and always enjoyed the food, but unfortunately, this visit was really disappointing. The food took 45 minutes to arrive, which is expected if busy but when it finally did, it was freezing cold, the steak was overcooked, and some items listed on the menu were missing from the plate. So it was quite obvious the food was sat out for quite some time and as seen in the photo literally thrown together. We brought this up with the staff, and to their credit, they refunded two meals and gave us a round of drinks, which we appreciated. However, the experience was already spoiled by that point. What made it worse was seeing both chefs carrying bins out through the bar while we and other people were eating—something I never expected to witness in a restaurant. I couldn’t believe it!! This is the first time we’ve had a bad meal here, and I really hope it’s a one-off, but it’s left us hesitant about returning anytime soon

The food was decent, and the service was satisfactory. However, as a pub, it’s naturally not the best place if you’re looking for a peaceful or quiet dining experience.

Went for lunch with family (12 people) on 21 December to the Horse and Jockey, Sutton Coldfield. Meals were pre-ordered to make it easier on the day which worked out well. Service was excellent unfortunately I forgot to get the name of the waitress but she was very professional and friendly and made sure we had a good time. Meals were good and we had forgotten to pre order something but it was resolved without a fuss. Overall we had a good time and would go again.

After the food was finished, a member of my party asked the same woman who was in the restaurant area if she would mind taking a photo of our group when she had a moment and was told (again, incredibly rudely) that she was busy serving another table. She was asked if she could please do it when she was finished but she didn't return. Another member of the team was only too happy to spend the 10 seconds it took doing this for us. There was no toilet paper whatsoever in the ladies restrooms - not a single sheet. We arrived about 10 minutes before our 1pm booking and 3 hours later there still wasn't any despite my party all having been to the bar to request some and numerous other people we heard telling staff that the dispensers were empty. Definitely not an IBD friendly establishment. I would have scored this experience at 0 but for the other 2 members on the bar team. They were great but that didn't make up for the overall experience.

my daughter had her bday drinks here back in sept,however not a bad nite to be honest,she loves busted so i got her a cardbourd cut out of the singer,at the end of the night i asked the manager to look after it for me,to which he said he would do.i went back to get it and was told it had been destroyed by people behind the bar,annoyed is an understatement.i wouldnt of minded but it cost me 50 pound and i have not heard nothing back,to people out there dont leave anything behind the bar for the manager to look after because it will get ruined.

Busy Ember inns pub. Had the seasonal menu, and was generally underwhelmed.

Not a place I will return to. Cold food, menu items unavailable, poor service, piped music too loud. The only thing worth while was the amazing Christmas tree but I would prefer a decent meal and good service. Complained to M&B and they said 'sorry'!

Food was absolutely fantastic. Servers were cheerful and polite but there was a wait due to some missing ingredients, everything was sorted really well. Christmas atmosphere was lovely!

Went late on Sunday evening. Poor choice of Sunday Roasts. Awful portion of meat and very dry. No carrots. Not even an explanation of why there are no carrots. 😞 The quiz was on, and a weekly event. Made up for poor quality of food.

I totally do not agree with staff putting a reservation notice on my table for someone who had phoned in to reserve a table for later. My table was empty when I first sat down with no reservation notice on it. It is the equivalent of telling me I have to leave or move when these other people arrive. I did therefore leave earlier than I intended to, and did not order the food that i was considering ordering before going home. There are reservation notices on most of the tables for varying times of the day in this pub, as it is a popular pub. But a person should never expect be given notice that they may be expected to move or leave for the sake of others who reserve tables. For this reason alone I doubt that I'll be visiting again anytime soon. The pub is nice though, and staff were friendly.

Nice pub welcoming and friendly staff quick service nice food only downside is I don’t think the last refurbishment was thought out very well if you have a table at the top end of the pub when people open the door to come in leave smoke you get a really bad draught that does spoil the meal also the fireplace has been moved so people can’t sit by because it’s situated in the walkway to the bar

Called in here after visit to newly opened cinema. Went with my wife and her Mother, sadly recently widowed. Was greeted by Emma. We asked for a table with good lighting due to my mother in law havung an eyesight problem to which we were directed. I returned to order our 3 meals which were delivered quickly and exactly as requested. Food was enjoyed by all of us, one burger, one gammon and one veggie option. On return to the bar for further drinks, Emma was serving someone else but asked if we'd enjoyed our meals anyway. When we left a while later. Emma was in the customer area chatting to another customer who had two Golden Retrieves with her (the pub is Very dog friendly). I thanked her again and she said glad you enjoyed it, hopefully we'll see you again. I think you certainly will. Lovely staff, good food and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Thanks to Emma and the other staff members, we had a lovely evening all round and managed to help my mother in law forget about her problems for a few precious hours.

We booked my mom’s 80th Birthday meal here and we couldn’t have been more pleased. The staff went above and beyond and their kindness and hospitality was second to none. The food was great and all in all we had a fantastic time. Thank you all for making it special

Good food at a reasonable price and lovely, friendly staff in a relaxing and calm atmosphere. They were more than happy and accommodating at making a substitution with sides in a meal due to my dietary needs. Highly recommend.

🤦🏽The staff are such lovely people, some are there just to earn a few quid to pay their way in life, others I can see as being at the start of their journey into a fantastic industry (if they get it right). However, these young first time jobbers are being let down by a lack of even the most basic hospitality training from their management, Ember Inns - and it’s obvious at my once beloved regular haunt 👻The H&J. Customer service is key in ANY business, right?The hospitality industry is suffering as it is, on its knees in fact & this place is not doing that industry any favours! My advice? You’ve got to do much better, you charge premium price for basic beer, you can at least tempt our hard earn cash with some sort of customer service right? It is NOT your staff, it is your lack of investment in people! I’m available for consultancy & staff training. Just so you’re aware, on this particular visit I was the only person at the bar and this has happened on numerous occasions. Came here the other day with some mates and all I can say is the service was amazing, food was great as well, didn't feel like we had to wait too long. The lady serving us was Megan, she was great all evening and was really helpful as well as funny and lovely to talk to. Good little spot to chill and have some drinks.
