A good restaurant located in a beautiful location that used to be a theater. The place is very pretty and original, and it's also located opposite Birmingham Cathedral. The food they serve is typical English, well prepared and in good quantities. I ordered a pie (I remember which one) and it was delicious. The service was always good, and they have a wide variety of beers on tap. Recommended.

Dave D Critchley

Having not been in this pub for many years I decided last night to pay it a visit...bad mistake !..Firstly on going in there were two doorman on the door ...not a good impression ,is this place such a wild west saloon that they need two bouncers !. On going to the bar I was served by a young lad who in my mind should have been at home doing his homework I asked for a pint of beer and when he put it on the bar and asked for £7.85 !!! I almost dropped through the floor. When I queried the price he looked at me as if I was asking him for the formula of atomic fission ! , his answer when it eventually came was "THEY have put the price up" ..really.Not wanting to re-mortgage my house I paid up drank the pint and left.I then walked one minute around the corner to Henman and Cooper where the same pint cost me £5.85 !!.A lot of reviewers here mention the lovely interior and structure but let me say YOU are paying to see it through the exorbitant prices they charge.Pubs are closing down daily through lack customers and The Joint Stock is not helping the situation by charging ridiculous `London` prices.

Tenían cada detalle bajo control y eran un crédito absoluto a The Old Joint Stock. Si te apetece visitar el teatro, tener una función privada o simplemente pasar por uno de los lugares más hermosos de Birmingham, lo recomendaría encarecidamente.

Even though they didn't answer the phone or email me back immediately the next day I knew that they were busy due to it being a Saturday night. I went back to the venue on the Saturday the day after the event the assistant manager Kieran helped me out straight away dropped what he was doing to take me to the theatre to check, he even called his colleagues that were on shift the night I lost my ring & Showed me a picture of my ring that they posted on they're work group chat as lost property. Probably the best Fuller’s pub I’ve been to. The selection on tap is mostly the same as you’d expect, but The Old Joint Stock Pub stands out for a few reasons: The bar staff were really friendly and welcoming, which is always a pleasant surprise for Londoners visiting other cities in the UK—and definitely appreciated. The food was also great.. Classic pub food done well and with an interesting twist - we had the macaroni bites, chicken and roast potatoes with marmite, plus a cub sandwich, washed down with Frontier and Guinness. The pies looked great too. Despite being a city centre pub, it had a relaxed vibe with excellent service bringing the food to the table, cutlery, etc. It’s clear they take service seriously. Another unique aspect of the pub is the theatre upstairs, which adds to the uniqueness. Even though it’s owned by a brewery chain, it has its own distinctive style. The decor is well thought out, with a lovely connection to its history, and there are no TVs or other elements that can ruin classic pub old interiors. The other customers were a mix of colleagues after work, dates, and small groups of people— all respectful. There was a nice buzz about the place, but it wasn’t hectic or frustrating to get served. We stayed for about an hour and a half and had a great time.

A Night of Missed Food (and Opportunities) We arrived at the pub ready for a good meal, only to be greeted by… no one. Not a soul in sight to help us with our booking, but no problem – we’re resourceful. After a quick game of “Guess Where Your Table Is,” we found it a few feet inside the door. Easy win. There was a chap standing with the door team after we took a seat, who I kindly informed of our arrival. He soon appeared with a colleague to clear the table and gave us the rundown – pay as you go or start a tab. Simple. So far, so good. I remembered the food being fantastic from my last visit a few years ago. Naturally, I was thrilled to introduce my South African family to some solid British fare. The lack of children’s menus wasn’t ideal, but my daughter’s love for pizza made the discovery of one on the menu a small victory. Then, the wheels came off. While placing the order, we were told that we’d been handed the wrong menu – no Beef Shin for us. Odd, since the menu was on the table, outside the pub, and still online. Apparently, Beef Shin disappears with Christmas spirit. But surely someone could have told the menus? It’s not like they update themselves. No problem – steaks all around. Now, the starters were the opening act of disappointment. Truffled mac & cheese croquettes that tasted suspiciously like something from the frozen aisle at Iceland, bland butternut squash soup that lacked any squashy enthusiasm, and beer-battered squid that should’ve come with a free drain unblocker for all the oil. The traditional Scotch egg was the lone survivor – although maybe it just looked good compared to everything else. Mains didn’t fare much better. The fish pie arrived lukewarm, the vegetables were… let’s just call them minimalist, and the parsley sauce had developed its own little film, suggesting a long and lonely wait for someone to love it. Spoiler: no one did. My daughter’s pizza resembled a flatbread with tomato paste and partially melted cheese. The garlic bread was essentially the same, just with a garlic overdose that could ward off vampires for the next century. She didn’t eat much of either, which, given the quality, was probably for the best. When the steaks arrived, confusion reigned again. The waitress wasn’t quite sure whose steak was whose, and one meal was missing entirely. The steaks themselves? Tough, unseasoned, and colder than the pub’s atmosphere (which, incidentally, was so chilly that most customers kept their jackets on). Chips – also lukewarm. I have a sneaking suspicion the waitress loitered in the kitchen for a bit before deciding our food was “fine, actually” and brought it over as if nothing had happened. The toilets added another level of charm – toilet roll carpeting the floor, dangling seats, and hand-washing stations that could double as a swimming pool. A quick check-in from staff at any point would have gone a long way. £300 later, we were less than thrilled. When we raised the issues, we were offered a free round of drinks – which, while nice, wasn’t really the problem. Eventually, a £50 discount was given, but honestly, it felt more like a courtesy wave than a sincere apology. It’s such a shame – the venue itself is stunning, and the drink selection is top-notch. With just a little more attention to detail, this could have been a great experience. I’d appreciate if someone could reach out regarding this visit – a proper refund or compensation would be more fitting given the state of our meal.

Excellent selection of beers wilth a range of Fullers and guest beers. We especially enjoyed the Twelve Days of Christmas Porter (Hook Norton) and HSB (Gales)....loving the dark bees, which are not always so easy to find in pubs. We were rudely kicked out of the pub ~15 minutes after paying for drinks without being told they were closing early for a special event. No one apologized for the miscommunication, claiming it was their most popular night of the year, while zero people were waiting outside of the pub for the supposedly popular event. In fact, we ran into some people outside waiting to come in for drinks, let them know what was going on, and they happily left the area with us. It was super special being prompted repeatedly to leave with no warning while the women in our party were using the restroom. Great service 👌🏼 Also someone tripped and fell on an unmarked step while we were in the pub so be careful if you ever decide to drink here.

I am genuinely in shock at how awful our meal was today. Firstly, 5 out of 6 of our orders were either disgusting or wrong. The adults menu burger (which is £18 near in mind) was the tiniest burger I’ve ever seen. It had no toppings in it aside from cheese and lettuce: the burger was also burnt. One of our party’s main came out with no cauliflower cheese. Two other party member’s food came out stone cold and we weren’t even offered any compensation. The photos speak for themselves. Awful.

Absolutely extraordinary pricing. A perfectly reasonable real ale cost the ridiculous sum of £7.55 a pint today. Fortunately there are better pubs round the corner like The Wellington charging less than a fiver for a better experience. We won't be back.

Gorgeous pub in the centre of Birmingham City. Wonderful, high ceilings and a fabulous atmosphere. I genuinely loved it in here. Warning: it's more than a tad pricey 🫰🏻

The Red Lion was an absolutely lovely place to be easter Sunday evening with my girlfriend and her family. Wouldn’t have wished to be anywhere else. Ashlee helped us out (and had some awesome sunglasses), making sure we were well looked after. And Helen made me and her the most wonderful desserts. Will be coming back soon!!

Sunday lunch was lovely, nice decor, great service and food was delicious. Food came out hot, good portions with separate bowl of vegetables plus bottomless gravy, simply a very nice experience. Menu has a good amount of options. Definitely worth a visit and we will be returning.

Recently visited the pub and had a superb time. This was mainly due to the friendly and helpful staff, especially young James. He had great information about the food available and an extensive knowledge of all the drinks they served. You don't see it very often now but his happy smiling face was a pleasure to see and made our night.
