Always great food! Have been several times now and will go again!

Arrived without booking but was shown to bar table quickly by a lovely gentleman. Went to bar to order food and drink, had menu in my hand, I know i'm only 5ft tall but was totally ignored by a girl who walked by 3 times. Finally gave up and left. Shame as had been there once before with work colleagues and was really nice. Today was a different experience!

We had a nice meal here. The staff were attentive, and the food was really nice and arrive quite quickly. Only 1 out of the five of us didn't love it. But all the starters went down well. My wife had a steak, and she said it was one if the nicest she'd had. Being vegetarian, the choice wasn't super for me, but what I had was tasty.

Visited today for a Sunday roast - excellent food, great service (especially from Mike who looked after us very well) and would definitely recommend!

Went in for a pint but stayed for pie and another pint, great pub lovely atmosphere and music, attentive staff, thank you we'll be back

Best destination gastro pub in area

We just popped in for a drink halfway through a walk. We stood waiting at the bar for a long time before someone came to serve us each of the 3 times we went to the bar and then they weren't that friendly. Nice setting.

Great place & dog friendly in the bar, we ate here & food was good (as is the beer). Have been a few times now and it's in our favourites list.

A very nice restaurant with a good choice of food and drinks. Staff very pleasant and efficient. Certainly worth another visit.

Great resturant, good food and atmosphere. Only downside is the descretionary 10% service charge added to the bill for tables of over 5. If you are going to do this then add it to ALL bills regardless of the number of occupants. I also do not see why it is added to the cost of the drinks the bar is only 10m away and it adds over £2 for a bottle of wine. My service charge would have been over £30 which I considered excessive, I then had the embarisment of asking to have it removed.

They didn't rush us but service was good. The portions were very generous and the main course and dessert were very tasty. We took our daughter and family who had not been there before, they were very impressed. Would certainly recommend this place.

We enjoyed an excellent lunch with very good service at a reasonable price.

Been going there for years as it's only an hour's walk from home. Have the soup and sandwich deal but recently, they've cut down the sandwich choice to just 2 so not as varied as I'd like. However, the service has improved of late - waiting time previously could be as long as 40 mins despite no-one else being in. Now down to 15ish mins. All the staff are really nice.

3/4 stars, food was good there's no doubt about that, the decor was nice, seats were leather lined and cracked looked a little tired. Overall it was a nice experiance, service was overall OK but was let down at the end of the meal where staff were rushing round us making tables up for the following day (we were one the last sittings) but neglected to come to us, after half an hour we had to chase things up. Just a slight let down on what was overall a nice experiance.

Read so much about this place so decided to take wife for Sunday lunch well building and ambiance when into bar area haddog with us Ordered drinks and sat down no one come over to us so asked for menu ve comprehensive I may had wife didn’t want starter I again had to go to bar and ask what was the soup of the (mushroom) to which I ordered and we both chose the lamb (So far so good my soup arrived and can only be described as MAGNiF Here’s where it all goes down 🤑 Our lamb arrives and at first glance looks nice however there where 3 supposedly roast potatoes I tried to cut in it and was like leather the smell from said potato was like horrible and tasted just as bad just like you where eating a raw potato I went to bar and explained to n’armant he said he would get them exchanged and to be fair they did another man brought out 3 more with gravy so put one on my plate which was exactly the same as the ones I’d sent back this along with the thinnest slices of fat / lamb and undercooked veggies had by this time spoilt my appetite we finished our drinks I then went up to bar to pay and explain all of above to my surprise I would probably had more attention from my DOG so to conclude having spent the best part of £60 from my children s inheritance fund ! My wife and I left feeling really underfed and very disappointed with our experience

Sunday dinner is awesome staff are lovely

Lovely interior with very high standards.Very welcoming staff and great food menu.The four of us had food and drinks.Food was excellent quality,and tasted fantastic.Very pleased all round,and we would all return here again as new to the area.Very well done !

We have just visited today for Sunday lunch! The food was good but we’re sat on a table next to the door into the kitchen which was like being sat in a wind tunnel! When we left I pointed out how dissatisfied were with this and both the managers were not bothered! My husband helped his 95 year mother out the door, I was on crutches and both men stood there and watched me struggle and at no point helped me! Totally disgusted!!!!!

Pie night and a pint on a Monday means you can only have a alcoholic drink. Coke or 0.0 beers are not included, which doesn't make sense. Most people have to drive here, which I think encourages drink driving.

A well presented establishment with a good range of quality drinks and freshly prepared food. Service is friendly and the décor eclectic yet modern and stylish. I have been on numerous occasions when in the area and am always happy to have visited.

The meal was lovely and service good. At the end I went to pay my bill and was given the wrong one or at least an incorrect one. This was corrected and I paid it. It wasn’t till I got home the I realised I had been charged £3:50 for a pint of soda water and a dash of blackcurrant. I know everything has increased in price but that seems a little extreme.

Open from 6 pm and have some sitting outside if the weather allows you to do it. Friendly staff, good and tasty food. Special offers for Wednesday and Thursday for 22£ - starter and main. Groups over 8 will have a 10% service charge added to the bill automatically.

Booked for Sunday lunch, chose roast beef. The meal was outstanding, I really enjoyed it, there was plenty on the plate. Loved the room.

Having been on several occasions for lunch we recently ventured again very recently. The experience unusually on this occasion was not so good. The sandwich menu says bread will be bloomer, this was not so, just your regular everyday whole meal sliced the same as from the supermarket. Lunch was ok but we have certainly had better here….

Sunday lunch for six. Good service, excellent choice of food through from starters to desserts. Very generous portions.

Over the years, we have visited the Horse & Jockey on many occasions and always been impressed. However, our experience last night was very disappointing. We arrived early and ordered drinks from the bar. We were served by the unfriendliest, personality-less guy who couldn’t crack a smile. I celt sorry for another customer who tried to engage him in conversation about how long the pub had been there and the bar man just looked at him blankly and said he hadn't a clue. The menu was much smaller than it used to be, and there were no specials, as there used to be. The food was of a decent standard though.I do have a problem with the service, which was just terrible. We had a young man serve our table, who also appeared to have left his personality at home. We ordered chateaubriand and we have eaten half of it when he arrived with a bowl of peas. He put them on the table and said, these were left in the kitchen! After we had eaten we didn't then see another member of staff. No one came to ask if we wanted puddings or coffee. When i popped to the loo, I approached the bar and asked to speak to the manager. She was polite and offered to sort something out with the bill. I declined. We just wanted to settle up and leave by this point. Sadly, we won’t be returning.

We had dinner here. I have to say the food was outstanding coupled with top class service. The staff are so friendly. Thanks We visited for a second time so thought I'd add a second review to this. We walked in and were met by such friendly staff. At the table again most friendly staff and it's clear they all know their jobs very well. The food again was exemplary so also very apparent that the chef knows his job. I would highly recommend the Horse and Jockey to anyone. We won't hesitate to eat here again the next time we are in Atherstone. To all the staff you are doing a great job and Thanks again 🙂

Had lamb dinner. Plenty of veg, lovely Yorkshire. Lamb not that flavoursome. I would have like my meal hotter. Some things were hot ie roasties but lamb and veg more warm than hot. However I would go again.

Really nice restaurant pub. Laid out in a very nice style. 4 stars on food? Maybe mine own fault, the rare fillet steak was very tasty but so rare it wasn't that warm. The crumble again was tasty but if you had teeth that didn't like hard crunchy bits be careful. Any other pub would give 5 stars but for the price would have expected that bit extra. Would I go back yes but would ask for the steak to be medium as opposed to the recommended cooking suggestion.

Quite probably the best Sunday lunch I have eaten when dining out. Nothing was to much bother, service excellent and the food was of the highest quality.

First visit and really enjoyed the evening. Staff were friendly and very helpful, service first class. Lovely food, well presented and of excellent quality. Throughly recommended.

Rude manager who blocks you from leaving reviews on Facebook page! Ordered a takeaway and the first time it was good. Second time was absolutely awful and completely different to the first time we ordered! Got a rude reply from the manager and then got blocked from being able to book a table to try again! (We live local) The standard of food we received the second time was worse than mc Donald’s! And then to receive a rude reply from management and to be blocked from Facebook after being ignored about my complaint for months is disgusting! Shows exactly what type of manager he is! Will not ever return and have showed lots of local people the photos of how bad the food was we received. So many other local. Friendly restaurants around. Do not recommend at all!

We had dinner at the Horse & Jockey. The food and service were both very good. There is good parking and it's in a lovely country setting. The restaurant is nice but I only gave 4 out of 5 stars as our table was next to the kitchen swing door, which was annoying and detracted from what should have been a pleasant dinning experience. There were other empty tables so it was not necessary to use this table. Nice place. We would go back but make sure to avoid the table at the swing door.

I was introduced to this restaurant a year ago for a friends birthday. I’ve been many times since. Excellent cosy atmosphere and brilliant food.

Firstly I have to say our food was lovely however it was a hot day and there was nothing on the menu but what I would call comfort food. A choose of salad or a lighter menu would have been appreciated on an extremely hot day in a restaurant with no air con or fans.

Throughly enjoyable meal (again),party of nine all had a great time, thank you 10/10

Love this place. Fabulous service, cosy atmosphere. Food top notch! Dogs welcome in bar area (very comfortable) which is where we dined. Plenty of outdoor seating/picnic tables for sunny days. Great destination after a canal walk. Would absolutely recommend.

The beer was very nice, but we were served by a silent bar man who spoke not a word throughout the entire transaction. I mean, I didn't expect a discussion on the merits after Aristotles' natural philosophy but just a polite "what would you like" would be nice. My pint was delayed, a bit of a fluffy pour. This was not communicated to me, so I stood like a lemon while he served someone else...again, in silence, before finishing mine and magically producing it just as I was about to throw caution to the wind and ask him where the hell it was. Nobody died, the beer was good but I felt like we were intruding.

Apologises for taking so long for writing this but just been a bit busy. I travel a bit with work and are always looking for a pub with good pub grub and it is safe to say I found it. Excellent cask ales with a good selection (not too sure about the lagers sorry) I had Tim Taylors Landlord which was most enjoyable but a chappie on the next table had a pint of something else and took it back which was changed without any trouble at all. The food was cooked fresh and was delicous and reasonably priced for the quality. We sat in the bar and service was good as there was a good number in the restaurant area as well but the staff were attentative but not over bearing. All in all it was that good I went back the following evening to taste one of the pies and was not disappointed at all. There was however on this particular evening a young member of staff folding napkins which although in the bar area was something I would prefer not to have watch whilst eating. All in all if you are passing get yourself in for a warm reception, good service, great food and beer at a fair price. I would suggest as I went through the week to call and book certainly at weekend as I believe the Sunday Lunch is well worth a try. Enjoy.

Food was good, like a bit more but overall lovely

Went last night for a 60th birthday celebration and they were great. The service was excellent and the food, OMG the food was to die for, everything that was on the plate was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. Great choice of wines and gins too. Thanks all for making our night so enjoyable 😊 we'll definitely be back soon!

We came to try out the Sunday roast and none of us were disappointed! Great portions good tasted amazing! We didn’t have to wait long for starters to mains and then desserts! Highly recommend

Lovely al fresco lunch! My burger was delicious and so was the Camembert, especially the bread that came with it. Fish eaters were impressed with the crispness of the batter and the chunkiness of the chips. Will certainly be returning again this summer! 🌞

Nice place and ok food. Bit silly with the table policy, not being able to book chr more than 8 people or at least put the tables next to each other, but I appreciate that the tables were close together but didn't like the fact that we could have been opposite sides to the restaurant.

Food ok nothing special cheapish though Had a special meal 2 for £21 2 out the 3 meal ok one meal most of the meat very tough couldn’t cut it with a knife told the server she said I’ll speak to chef then came back asking if we’d like deserts !!! No we would like some acknowledgment of our complaint please 🙄 don’t expect anything special shame though nice setting but won’t be back

One of the best places to eat,especially since the covid pandemic which put paid to a lot of good pub restaurants. Thank god it never closed down. When our relative from Cheshire comes to visit The Horse and Jockey is an absolute must. We love it.

A really good Sunday Lunch venue. We went with a group of friends and we all had an excellent meal. The food was perfectly cooked and there was ample accompanying vegetables. Really good desserts to finish off as well. Staff were all really friendly and attentive 😀

Booked here again for our pre Christmas meal, nice and busy, great homely atmosphere. Staff are excellent, polite and attentive, food first class, well cooked, fresh and hot, given current circumstances prices are good we feel. And was so nice to finish eating and go sit by a roaring fire, cannot fault this place for 2 or a family. Thank-you to the staff for a lovely afternoon

Although very busy service was good. A little pricey for a Sunday lunch but huge plateful.

Very busy Sunday Roast Lunchtime but credit to staff that they coped well. Food was good though not keen on shredded veg myself. Even the rather large car park was full, but we found a spot OK.

Dined here with a small group of friends. The restaurant was very busy but service was fast and attentive. The atmosphere and surroundings were very nice and the dining area was spacious, so you did not feel "crammed in". We had three courses and all of them were of good quality. The menu is simple and seems to cater for most tastes. Pricing of the food is very reasonable given the good standard. I would definitely visit here again.

For the price you pay the food was okay and that's about it, I had a roast and it was quite bland not much vegetable selection either, nothing to rave about to be honest. The staff were friendly enough but seemed to have to go over our order multiple times, and the food took a while to arrive. Apart from that the place itself is lovely and the atmosphere is nice and cosy, I would like to try this place again and try some different food.

In a word “fabulous”, this place is so warm & inviting with lovely decor in both the bar & restaurant. The staff are friendly but very efficient & couldn’t be more helpful. The food was superb, cooked just right & good portions. So very impressed with this pub/ restaurant & will certainly visit again soon

Lovely food, huge portions and lovely service, despite it being quite busy. I LOVED the carrot and cumin soup, perfectly seasoned. Loved that there was a vegetarian homemade pie on the menu, we never get pie!

Having taken a punt on a new pub for a friends get together I was very pleasantly surprised. It was a busy bustling pub and I expected mediocre standard pub fare but the menu was very varied and had great 2 course for £20 options on the day we visited. The table we were sat at was perfect for 8 of us to all chat to each other and the staff friendly and attentive. The food was really good, tasted freshly prepared with care and beyond my expectations of normal."gastro pub grub". We would definitely like to visit again, especially as a larger group.

Wanted somewhere central for friends to meet from around the midlands and this was ideal. The service, menu, food quality and restaurant area were all first class. We will definitely be back and would highly recommend to anyone looking for a group gathering or meal...
