Had a lovely soup and roll followed by the rarebit crumpets and homemade pickle. Nice cafe at the Mere with reasonable prices and even better that Dogs are welcome inside.

We were in the area camping and stopped for lunch after playing crazy golf. The range and freshness of the menu was very reassuring. I had the ham, egg and chips with homemade piccalilli, which was excellent. The friendliness of staff and quick service was very welcoming. I would happily recommend and would go often only if I didn't live so far away.

Appalling customer service, we were made to feel like we were an inconvenience and should be grateful for the chance to sit in the cafe. Food was mediocre and tea was weirdly tasteless. There are many other lovely cafes to visit instead, such as the Bay Tree up the road. I can’t even say what we were told when we complained as it’s too offensive. Spoke to a couple of locals who all said the place should be avoided because of the staff, wish I’d known that earlier.

Saw and heard 'the manager ' of the site being loud, foul-mouthed and insensitive to an older gentleman who arrived in the carpark desperate for a wee while nothing was open. Said elderly man literally ran away from the carpark to the waters edge for a wee. Older man got as far as a line of benches and very decretely had a wee in the long grass. Manager then began to shout, swear and spit, elderly man tried to explain he had a medical issue, was desperate and weed away from the benches. Aggressive man continued to intimidate, swear and bully. Dreadful behaviour by management.

We never got through the car park so can't comment on the cafe, my husband is disabled & in a wheelchair & on reading about Hornsea Mere Cafe having a wheelchair accessible car park we thought we'd give it a visit. When we arrived there was no sign of any disabled car parking & a very rough uneven carpark which would be vertually impossible to push a wheelchair across. I went to the cafe to ask where the disabled parking was & a girl with a very sickly smile on her face told me just to park anywhere in the carpark!! Obviously she'd never pushed a wheelchair. Sadly for Hornsea Mere Cafe we won't be visiting again & will spread the word amongst our other disabled friends. Luckily for us Mr Moo's was only down the road & has disabled parking & good disabled access.

Been for breakfast today , I've never had it served like this before . Piece of toast if you can call it that , more like warmed bread , in the middle of a dinner plate , bacon , sausage on top of it with a fried egg on top of that , deep fried hash browns , grilled tomatoes and mere beans ,( beans weren't to my liking but that's personal choice ) I like to eat my toast cold after my breakfast, I didn't touch that , it was soggy with fat from the bacon etc . It doesn't say it's all piled on top of each other. Trying to be something that it isn't

We visited the Mere cafe today after a walk with our 2 small cockapoo pups after reading it was dog friendly establishment we sat outside while my wife went in to see if that was so and she ordered some food and coffee one of the ladies said it was ok to fetch the dogs inside as it was very cold outside we went in and it was completely empty we were taking the pups into the far corner when another lady? quickly came and stopped us from sitting down and because the dogs had barked at each other once she said we had to leave. So we had a cold cup of coffee and a cold bacon sandwich sat outside. So if you have a bad cough be prepared to be asked to leave suffice to say we won't be back.

My wife and I visited Hornsea Mere last Sunday 23rd August. we decided to have a takeaway snack as the cafe is still closed. I had a bacon and sausage bap which was ok. My wife had a cheese toastie which was dreadful - the bread was more like fried bread and swilling in grease. We also had a tea and a coffee and the bill came to nearly £15 which we thought was very expensive for what we had. the next time we go to the Mere we shall call in at the nearby fish shop first and have fish and chips whilst watching the ducks which will be a lot better value than the snacks on offer at the cafe.

Well another establishment, who expect you to sit outside on a cold autumn day, and pay the same money as everyone else, just because you have a dog. I could understand this if they had never allowed dogs, however we have been here on numerous occasions before with our pooch, and they have been happy to take our money, especially on the wet miserable days when no one else is about... so all I can say is who made the silly decision to now make it dog unfriendly... it didn’t look like it had been wrecked by a horde of marauding pooches... or perhaps it’s the old adage dogs aren’t allowed cos we serve food.... well they are but not in the food prep areas for all of you who don’t know.... well we won’t return unless we get a discount for sitting outside in the wind and rain... good luck !...

Made a visit to the Hornsea Mere café last week on a lovely sunny day. I don't usualy make review's unless things are really bad or exceptionally good.---- My partner ordered two bowls of soup which came with bread roll & butter and we sat outside. The soup (carrot) was a generous portion ,the butter plentiful but it came with the smallest driest oldest toasted bread bun which when i cut into it was just an empty shell nowhere to spread butter. I went to a member of staff explained and asked for a new one, she in turn asked who ever was in the kitchen and I was told I would have to pay £1 for another one. When I refused there was a bit of a smirk and a shrug of the shoulders from the staff member. For the sake of a bit of bread well done I won't be back

As a local, I have visited the cafe a few times before for coffee and always found it ok. But today we went for a Fathers day breakfast and were bitterly disappointed. My husband ordered the full English breakfast which was fine, but at £8.50 not a patch on the size of other local cafes. I ordered the Welsh rarebit which came with grilled tomato and avocado (a pot of guacamole). First look at mine and I was surprised by the bright yellow colour. One mouthful and I knew why. It was like eating a little bit if grated cheese mixed into a pot of mustard. I'm really not a fussy eater, and i like mustard, but after 3 mouthfuls my mouth was on fire! I took it up to the counter and quietly told the girl. It was quite busy and I didn't want to cause a scene. She said she'd just serve another customer and would have a look so I left it on the side and went back to my table. A few minutes later she came over and said that there was nothing wrong with it, thats how the dish is served. Because I just didn't like it, they would be offering me a refund or anything. I said that was a shame because I didn't see how even if you were an absolute lover of mustard could you eat that dish. In the end she agreed to do me toast. So I paid £6.50 for 2 slices of brown toast and butter. Needless to say, they've lost our custom. Such a shame as it's such a lovely location. And we have a holiday let business too, so we won't be able to confidently recommend them in the future. I just think, for the sake of £6.50, it could have been handled very differently.

The young staff were cheerful and they cleaned the tables after the customers had left. None of them was seen with a mobile phone in their hands, they were to busy. There are sailing and boating available in the warmer months. We will return to this lovely location. Bring some bread to feed the birds, if you throw it into the air the birds catch it in mid-flight. The only reason the review is only 4 stars is that the building needs a bit of modernising.

A pleasant place to have drinks or lunch and watch the water. Varied menu to suit hot or cold food tastes. All cooked fresh and a clean environment. Staff were friendly and ran the place well.

Came here with my husband and had a lovely bacon butty and a breakfast, really lovely food, by the looks of previous comments maybe an ALL DAY breakfast would be good to add to the menu? It was delicious hot and served very politely , no problems what so ever, and the view is amazing xWas disappointed there were no homemade cakes all shop bought I was told

we love the mere and visit regularly, the café needs cushions, a bit of softness adding to the wooden décor and to NOT give cream, EVEN when offering to pay for it with your coffee is ludicrous, a little gem spoilt by silly ideas.

We have been here quite a few times, but today we brought some friends for their first visit. We were a bit late for lunch but the full menu was still available. A good selection of sandwiches including fresh crab, crayfish and others.I had welsh rarebit on crumpets with a home-made piccalilli pickle - lovely.Sat outside watching sailing dinghies, ducks and swans on a sunny day - peaceful.A good cafe with girls serving who seem to work hard and care.

Came here for morning tea and found a table out of the breeze at the side of the Mere. Service was good and the café popular.

We were visitors to the area. The restaurant sits on the edge of a lake with nice views, boating and plenty outdoor seating. It was a sunny day and there were plenty of dog walkers and children. It was a good eating experience of small meals and coffees at reasonable price...and of course toilet facilities which will be needed if you intend to spend time around the lake. . The coffee was a good standard.

The menu may be fairly limited, but there was still plenty of choice for the light lunch we wanted. My wife had the somewhat unusual crumpet rarebit while I had the brie, chorizo and sundried tomato baguette melt. Both came with home-made pickles: piccalilli for the rarebit and chutney for mine. It was all very tasty. I was sorry we had dinner booked as the cakes looked excellent too.

A very nice day spent at the mere and the cafe after a long walk just made it perfect. Good food and a much needed pot of tea. Friendly staff ready to give any help about things round about.

Was with 2 American friends yesterday at 1232 & it transpired we had missed the 1200 deadline for breakfast. a request for the 'Breakfast bap' which was available without the bap was met with; 'we don't serve that, is it a difficult concept' followed by 'you're not having it!'. Is there some kind of aggressive 'bap' protocol we were unaware of? It was kind of comedic & actually has in a bizarre way got a Basil Fawlty thing going. However. I would not go back & we advise all Americans not to go there in case it was an anti-US thing

Sarah was very attentive. The rest of the staff need to be trained by her. On booking to see if we could have a table the man wasn't, quite in the room

Called in tonight as seen family pub and dogs welcome on their sign.....just our street. Well. Absolutely gobsmacked with the prices, cheep and cheerful. Brie, as discussed as in the cheese, absolute delight, what a barmaid! Signposted me to everything I was drinking and offers, could jot have asked more of her, saleswoman in the making! We will be back, with child and dog 😊 cannot recommend any higher

We waited an hour for eggs and toast. Owner only cared about Door Dash orders going out the door. Given that Courtenay has so many great casual dining places, give this one a pass. Give your business to restaurants that care about providing good service to their customers.

Went today for lunch , I decided i was having soup , they said it was the last portion so that was fine , I asked for no bread which , when it came it was the smallest half bowl of soup for £6.25 , I didn’t want anything knocking off for not having the bread but did expect a full dish, looking at the menu I could of had a small breakfast, or sandwich for about the same price , it’s soup where do they get over £6 for it!!
