Hop song was my families favourite restaurant in my years growing up in Grantham. I have been to many Chinese restaurants in the 30 years since I moved but none of them make egg drop soup and deep fried scallops. After 30 years they are still on the menu, still delicious and still freshly cooked. Thank you for keeping them on your menu.

We had a very nice meal and we found it very good value. The food was fresh and hot and we had no issues with anything we ordered. The food came how we wanted it- for example without onions. The restaurant was nice and staff were attentive. We would eat here again.

Excellent authentic food. The food was made to order and quickly arrived and got. Lovely smiley Shirley who is the owner was very friendly and polite. Excellent customer service. Lovely cosy restaurant. Will definitely recommend anyone who comes to Grantham to experiment Hop Sing cuisine.

Worst customer service in my life. Now I'm being called non stop from the business owner harrasing me. Ordered a take away though Uber and was waiting for it to be delivered. Chose the A1 menu for one and some ribs. Gave them a call saying I ordered BBQ Ribs, but I would like to have them without it. All good here. 45 min later my order was delivered and I started to eat. Opened the chicken chop suey - not for me. Most watery, sweetest sugary dish that I ever had. 4 pieces of chicken in a whole container, 6 at max. Open the ribs, all good here. Chicken balls full of dough, barely any chicken, and very soggy. Looking for my rice, nowhere to be found. I was missing the rice and the rolls. I got in contact with Uber, and they refunded me part of the order. Next day I started to get calls from the shop owner asking me why did I asked them for a refund... I have explained that I was missing items and they told me that I should have called them and they could have send their driver back. I replied: I have ordered trough Uber so they could deal with it. Not my fault you didn't check the order before packing it. Mistakes happen. Take it to them. Then all the swearing started. I hanged up and now I'm being called non stop with threats and swearing. Worst experience ever! I would definitely not give them another chance.

Llegamos con lluvia torrencial, así que inicialmente eran bañadas y escudos no ofrecieron a nuestros abrigos hasta que había intentado pasar ellos sobre el extremo del stand, y luego la señora vino a nosotros y se los llevaron con ellos. Servicio parecía brusco y grosero por la pareja de personas mayores. Pato crujiente con ordenados, que llegó y no era crujiente, luego pedimos costillas picantes que estaban bien, pero después de que habíamos terminado me senté con mis manos muy desordenados durante al menos cinco minutos antes de que me dieron una toalla caliente para limpiar. Plato caliente llegó para el plato principal, y mencioné que una de las velas era muy baja y no estaba muy caliente, pero el hombre dijo que sería lo suficientemente caliente y por lo tanto nuestro principal campo fuimos frío muy rápidamente. Visited on a Sunday evening with my child, very quiet and a little like stepping back in time to Chinese restaurants of my own childhood. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was very good and well presented. A varied menu. Recommendations were made and questions asked regarding when we wanted each course served. Reasonably priced (not cheap) and they sent us home with what we did not manage to eat. No complaints at all.

We have been to Hopsings many times and have never a poor meal. The food is always fresh and hot. The staff are always welcoming.

It's unusual to find variety in a menu for one but this lunchtime 'special' fits the bill admirably. After the starters, you get a choice of meats and sauce, plus egg fried rice AND noodles, which I found excellent. Then a dessert and all for less than £8. Great stuff!

Old fashioned in style and very tired space....uncomfortable booths....seems pretty empty most of the time....the smell of the incense filled the air, mouth and nose thus overpowering all sense of taste by time food arrived.....yuk!.......menu was your normal dull dull English Chinese restaurant offerings with nothing at all to Sing about....will not be back.

Complete let down .... This used to be a Grantham tradition where locals go when they had something to celebrate. Since leaving the area, it has been a long time since I have been there. I booked a table for the family and upon arrival was offered a round table pushed up against the wall in the main runaway of the restaurant which was not great as kept having to lean forward for servers to get pass serving the other tables. The menu was limited and expensive for the amount we received. The service albeit friendly was very slow. This restaurant is certainly not the same restaurant we used to frequent years ago, completely lost its nostalgic appeal. For us, the tradition has been ruined and we will not be celebrating any further occasions there.

I came with a few friends recently and it was very nice! We got a set meal for four and a set meal for two as there were six of us - you can get a set meal for six but the two we ordered worked out a little cheaper. The service was quick and the food was delicious. Been here a couple if times now - would definitely come back!!

Nice resturant for a quiet meal, staff are very friendly, It has high backed booths that are nice and private or big tables for parties. Food was nice not overly priced and in the center of town.

Hop Sing provided a takeaway for 20 or so residents of Brick Kiln Place (an ExtraCare sheltered housing scheme in Grantham, run by Lace Housing) and a few of their guests recently, which was very much enjoyed by everybody. The food was great (fresh and hot - the king prawns in batter with sweet and sour sauce were a favourite!), and was prepared and ready within half an hour of our ordering it. We shall be coming back soon for more! As for me, I have been eating at Hop Sing on and off since it opened in the 1970s (or was it the early 80s already?), and my father (90 years of age and still struggling with the chopsticks...) and I never eat anywhere else when I visit him. Why take a risk at our age? The staff are great (friendly and attentive), and tolerant of our many foibles. Go there - but don't book the last table on an evening we are going, or else!

I lived in Grantham 30 years ago and having just returned, I thought I would try out one of the few haunts that still survive from my earlier time. Food was average and a little pricey. Again like many of the other posters, I felt as if I had stepped back in time. However, for me it wasn't an altogether negative experience.

Having lived in the town for a number of years and not having visited the Hop Sing at all, it was a total step back in time for the very first step in the door. I would liken the experience to stepping back at least twenty, if not thirty years, to velour booths and flocked wallpaper. The food was fair to middling, the service very slow and the drinks very overpriced. There was plenty of food for our party, but we had to wait such along time for each dish to arrive that the others were tepid by the time of eating.Overall, going by the amount of customers there were on a saturday evening, it is a popular eating establishment, but just needs some tlc and more staff.

My partner said it has not changed from when she visited many years ago. Ok the inside is dated and needs attention. If you are going for this you will be dissapointed, if your going for the food. The duck and the ribs we had lovely. 2 mains could not fault. we had enough to eat and yes its a little bit over priced. The staff are not the friendliest, they did bring the food out quickly and where polite . We didnt go to chat with the staff, just good food in a run down place. Had a set meal for 5 at 25.00 per person. Portions were very small, only one bowl of rice between us all, one piece of meat each in the 4 dishes that they served, we waited for ages for the first course, the second course plates came out hot and by the time the food came out to go with them 20 minutes later they were cold..the amount of food they served us would have cost an absolute maximum 30.00.. our bill came to 150.00. We complained but they didn't seem interested, I would not recommend that Chinese restaurant to anyone... poor service, no atmosphere..we were put in a room upstairs which another group of people I noticed refused to sit in. Absolutely rubbish..

I am originally a Grantham lad and remember when Peter started the Hop Sing restaurant over 50 years ago and has apparently been in it's present site for most of that time. Sadly, over time the decoration has not really been updated so the restaurant still has woodchip paper and a look trapped in the 70s - shame really.We went for a Sunday lunch as a change from a carvery before Christmas - there were five of us - and so we decided to start with the half a crispy duck and pancakes - it was just lovely!Then on to the main courses which arrived sizzlingly hot and tasted perfect.The service was excellent and we had a single round of drinks - so the bill of around £20 a head was pretty much what we expected.So if you want good chinese food at a reasonable (but not cheap) price with friendly service - then I can recommend this restaurant wholeheartedly.

This is a long-established restaurant with a good reputation. I hadn't been there for a few years but was delighted to find standards were as good as I remembered them. However, it wouldn't be the cheapest Chinese meal I've had....
