Food was awful. 2 of our group had the sharing platter. Had to send chips back as they were cold. Other 2 meals didn’t come with the platter as this is served as a starter. 2 of us had open steak sandwich and when served had to send the chips back again because they were cold. Meat in the steak sandwich was chewy and inedible and both plates of food got sent back and we left hungry.

Always get great quality food with fab prices. Staff all friendly and helpful. Great selection of drinks as well. Nice atmosphere and decor too

Food was good if we where not dying of dehydration sitting waiting 50 mins just for are food then after finished had to sit with the clutter of the empty plates on the table for a further 30 mins until an staff member finally came and asked if we wanted another drink and if we where done the drink came but on the table lay the knife and used napkin then to finish of had to wait that long for a staff member desert was not a option absolute joke as staff ask other customers if they want dessert as we sit here waiting won’t be back

We waited over an hour for our meal, my chicken kebab was luke warm and had to be reheated. What little chicken was on it was overcooked so was my friends another diner had a piece of broken plate in his peas for which they apologised and didnt charge him for meal the roast dinner was deemed to be nice. I however will never be back. !!

We booked a table of 12 for a works leaving dinner and the overall experience was excellent. The staff were really friendly and attentive, whilst also giving us room to enjoy our food. Everyone really enjoyed their food and it was very reasonably priced. The restaurant itself is a really nice setting and doesn't feel cramped, even as a table of 12. Would highly recommend the Hopetoun Bar & Bistro for food and drinks. I'll certainly be back.

We were asked if we had a reservation and when we said “no” they gave us seats anyway. The food does take a bit longer, but completely worth the wait and incredibly tasty. Highly recommend.

Something for everyone here ! Great quality food that not only looks good but tastes good too .We had the 2x steak and cocktail deal which just melted and was very juicy .Staff were attentive and helpful .Our server Ali was very efficient and made sure we had everything we needed . Nice venue to sit in for food or drinks with cosy lighting and decor .Would recommend and certainly return .

Ordered haggis starter. It was supposed to be on a bed of clapshot (mashed turnip and carrot) but disappointingly was on mashed potato. I did point this out to the serving staff but there was no feedback. Main course was posh steak pie. There were very few vegetables on the plate. One piece of carrot, a small piece of potato, three green beans and turnip. Very poor. The meat itself was tender but tasteless. I have had this dish on numerous occasions but this is the first time I have been so disappointed. My husband had a steak which was overcooked, tough and tasteless. It will be a while before we return which is a shame as we usually enjoy this bistro.

Decided to give this establishment a try for food for the first time. Sadly I don’t think I would go back. It was ok but nothing special unfortunately.

We booked a table for 10 at Hopetoun and this was a fist dining experience here for most of us. The food was fantastic! Really great quality, taste and presentation. Cocktails were lots of fun, well presented and lots to chose from. The service was perfect. Staff were polite, charming and hospitable. As we had such a large table we had to pre order the food and this worked well, all served in great time, not rushed between courses. I would definitely recommend. I can't wait to go back and try more from the menu - it all looked so good!

All in all won’t be back the prices are a joke for the quality. Service from staff was good though they are all lovely they’re the best part of the place.

A group of 8 we all enjoyed our meals. I would return in the summer time. The place was freezing we ate our meals with our coats on. One of our group said this place is really cold another said we are freezing. It was just ignored. Such a shame as staff and meal were very nice.

Visited here for works night out. Food was really good. Mac and cheese was hot and tasted homemade. Others in our group had Turkey Dinner and the Beef, and said theirs was also lovely. Staff were great. Only down side was when went to bar for drinks, only one girl was serving. There were 6 people standing waiting to be served, yet 3 members of staff, one of which looked like a manager, stood at the end of the bar seemingly doing nothing, while the poor girl that was actually serving was running about like mad. It took one of our group to ask if anyone else was serving, for them to do something. Apart from that, is a really great place to go for something to eat or even just a drink.

Myself and 2 friends were there on Thursday afternoon. I have been quite a few times and happy with the food but on Thursday the place was very very cold.2 of us had the Steak piewhich was a lump of meat and that when we knifes it apart was horrible dry and the gravy was really salty with the veg.and roast potatoes in amongst the thick gravy.Very mushy.Waiter came for our plates,which were still pretty full and we said what our grievances were.Nothing done about it.Very dissatisfied. We come here quite alot and i will say the service isn’t the best, it’s very very slow and it takes around one hour for your food to arrive and normally it’s worth the wait but for me last Saturday it just wasn’t worth it. I had ordered the Chicken supreme i think it’s called. It’s chicken, roast potato’s haggis and veg. After waiting an hour i got the tiniest chicken leg known to man, 3 small potato’s. For £15.95 i expected a little bit more. The portion was ridiculous. I’ve had this previously and it was much more and value for money. I also want to mention the heat or lack of it. It was absolutely Baltic, that alone would put us off returning. I received an email and left feedback to which I’ve had no response. I also messaged them on Facebook and the same no response. It has so much potential but not enough staff and it was just a let down. The last 2 times I’ve been there, it was poor and a let down. It’s alright them offering a discount but I don’t want that i want decent food and good service. Not too much to ask for.

Food was fantastic, wish I had tried here long ago. However service was extremely slow. We were seated at 3.30 food didn't arrive until 4.30 but it was worth the wait. Our plates lay on the table for a further 30mins after finishing and only when I asked a member of staff if we could order dessert these were removed. After ordering desert we waited a further 30mins then decided to leave and cancel dessert. To be honest they didn't even seem to be that busy. Waiting staff were lovely and very apologetic and well mannered. I certainly will be back so I'm hoping this situation was just a one off.

Booked a table for 7.30, eventually got seated after 8, had our order taken the. Waited another 20 minutes for starters and further 30 mins for main course after our table was cleared. Staff were doing their best but there weren’t enough of them and food on this occasion was decidedly bland. We eventually left at 9.30, out allocated time to leave. The noise was horrendous and we couldn’t even get each other talk. none of us will be back

Visited with 4 friends for a girlie night. The food was delicious, the cocktail tree had a mix of drinks and they were also amazing! I had the open steak sandwich and it was so good! The service was a little slow but we didn't mind as had plenty to talk about in between courses! I would definitely make a return visit :-)

If you are going to advertise opening hours online, please adhere to them. We witnessed three people (not drunk) being denied admission for a drink at 22:35 on a Friday night because "the bar is closed". Ten minutes later, the bell was rung for last orders. We were basically thrown out at 23.05 because 'we're closed' despite the online hours advertised as midnight on Thursday, Friday & Saturday! Not impressed.

Slow service. Very average food. Overpriced. Bizarre as golf club is much, much better on all fronts, go there instead.

First time visiting for lunch today and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. We ordered the sharing platter from the snack menu and were very impressed. Not just your basic pub sharing platter!!! It was delicious and plenty for the two of us. Service was good and friendly. We will definitely be back.

My wife and I arrived for a meal. Our food order was taken within 5 minutes. After 30 minutes I summoned a staff member to ask where our food was. We then waited another 10 minutes for a reply during which time we also spoke to the manager who gave a false image of concern but never came back with an explanation as to what was happening. Eventually the food arrived and my wife's veg. was cold and the veg. seriously undercooked. My food was cooked properly but I wasn't prepared to eat it as my wife could not eat hers. I spoke to the manager again who said the bottle of wine was on the house. Pity when we had actually gone for food that was inedible. We complained further and eventually the female supervisor came to offer us ten percent of any future meal. We were disgusted at this as they had ruined our night ut were even more disgusted that the manager would send over junior staff instead of dealing with this himself. He claims to pride himself on managing restaurants in a Edinburgh. After this it's no surprise he is BADLY managing a restaurant in Bathgate. We will never set foot in the place ever again. If you believe in good food and good service then avoid this place like the plague. When you go out for a meal and your wife ends up in tears due to dreadful service and they offer you a 10 percent off voucher shows you the level of disdain they hold customers in. By the way the bistro was not busy for meals at the time so they can't even use that as a belated excuse. AVOID AVOID AVOID

Disappointed with our meals for Sunday unch today. First visit and won't return. I had the roast of the day, which was gammon. Advertised yorkshire pudding was missing and what should have been roast potatoes were soft, and I suspect, microwaved half new potatoes. It was also served with a very runny beef gravy...all edible but uninspiring, lacking in taste and not very warm. My family had fish and chips, except it didn't come with chips! It came with soft, overcooked wedges. They did replace them with fries, which were at least hot. The fish was very thin and the batter too crisp and over cooked. None of us enjoyed our food, so cut short our meal and left to have coffee and desert elsewhere! Thankfully, this lifted our spirits and saved the day! As another reviewer said, the bistro was cold so none of us removed our jackets. We'd hoped for so much better...I should have read reviews before going!

Visited for the first time as part of a large group, in line with other reviews I’d agree service was slow and had to ask for drinks as multiple people were forgotten. Food was lovely and presented to a high standard. However the issues experienced came at dessert, ordered the cheesecake of the day, after a few bites discovered this contained nuts which I am allergic to. The server had not enquired about allergens at any point during the ordering process, as someone with a nut allergy I am familiar with what generally would contain nuts and had opted for “safe choices”. As soon as the nuts were detected we brought this to the attention of the server who was apologetic and took the dish away. No alternative was offered at that point. When paying at the bar again we raised this issue and was told it was my responsibility to inform the staff of allergies. I explained the reasoning above and there was absolutely no responsibility taken by the staff they were very defensive and barely apologetic. The desert was removed from my bill with a further 10%, this was done off their own back without asking for any goodwill gesture. However, I just feel there needs to be a higher standard of training when dealing with food service and potentially life threatening allergies. A sincere apology would have went a long way.

Went in for cocktails with the wife they were average at best. The first two we had was a cosmopolitan & a hurricane they were ok. The next two were a bramble and a Mai Tai they were definitely not ok. Weirdest tasting Mai Tai I’ve ever had and it was as if they had used ice cream syrup in the bramble it was so thick.

Tried to go in here today around 15.30 the righthand side of the establishment was totally empty not one person sitting at the tables. We were asked if we had booked a table. On saying no we were astonished to be told there were no tables. Won't be back, there are better places than this in Bathgate

Visited the bar for the first time in many years was impressed by the renovation; lovely decor & surroundings. Ordered food from the snack menu, excellent value & the food was great. Unfortunately the staff were inattentive & uninterested..disappointing as it would have been a definite return visit otherwise.

Was a Thursday evening and was quite quiet,service was good as was the food. Well worth a visit.

Food saved the night! No complaints about the food. Everything delicious. Service was very slow. Took 20mins for drinks to arrive. 30mins between starter and main. 1 meal had to be asked for as it didn't arrive. Staff were looking at the table and walking past. We ended up asking if we had been forgotten. Kids being in attendance Meals could have been served a little quicker. Atmosphere would have been OK if we didnt have kids with us. We were situated at the back and behind 2 tables who were obviously out for a good night. Music was far too loud and we couldn't hear ourselves speak. The 2 kids were sitting with hands on their ears. 1 child was really upset with the noise and was crying. Nowhere to park! Would I go again - no

We weren't booked for Hopetoun Bar & Bistro Although it was busy we got a table we got our order taken very quickly but we had to wait 25 minutes for our meal my friend Gillian had a fresh orange juice & lemonade I noticed a crack in the glass they replaced the drink When we had finished I spoke to 2 waitress & 1 waiter as they passed our table to see if we could get the bill 1 waitress responded the other 2 ignored me .The food was alright although the posh steak pie was a bit dry nothing really special

My daughter brought me here for my birthday on 24th February. It was my 1st time and certainly won't be the last. Service was spot on, burgers are amazing and the sticky toffee pudding is to die for.

We waited about 1 hour and 10 mins for 2 steak pies, a burger and the fish pot. It was like they were just doing one table at a time from scratch. The food was nice but not the wait.

No where to sit if you're only in for a drink standing at the bar feels more closed in than before. Was out once drink was finished.

Service was slow and table beside DJ Was not one you would wish to be seated. Nowhere did it mention that a disco would be blaring from 8.00pm. I had to ask DJ to turn down his sound system. Not what was expected.

Arriving at reserved time booked requested window seat as been before to be ushered to a table middle of restuarant by an abrupt member of staff.Then put to a window table who the member of staff turns out to be the manager who obviously needs a refresh on hospitality ! After 45mins food arrived chicken undercooked and the rest cold not acceptable given a 10% offer of next visit. Not sure want to be poisoned!! Campylobacter comes to mind!!

Went there for a works dinner get together, and whilst the food was lovely, delicious even and the waiting staff attentive, (especially the young waiter with longer hair who should be given a medal for having to work in such conditions), the atmosphere or ambience did not meet the same standards. Men and women screaming, yelling shrieking and then running around the table with chairs behind them as if they are 5 and in nursery was not what any diner had in mind. The music was far too loud, you couldn't speak or hear anyone at the dinner table. Then at 9 it changed to a disco where the music took on an even more unbearable level. We had to leave. As we did we saw that the age range was mainly between 18 and 25 and the behaviour was not in line with what u would expect, staff were in same age range so maybe it's acceptable to them, but if they want to keep people with expendable cash coming thru the doors and eating their lovely food then they are going to have to rethink how they deliver that service., Music in keeping with dining in the back for diners to enjoy and no badly behaved brats sitting and running amok beside them, they can be placed down the stairs away from food. And start their disco at 10.30, plus inform diners of the change. Its not rocket science, and yet...

Yes I should have complained at the time and that's on me. The meat in the steak pie was beautiful. But the rock hard vegetables let it down. Much like my carrots the sticky toffee pudding was as hard as a house brick.

Really enjoyed the food here. I had their speciality steak pie. Its immense, beef falls apart . One small negative, stick more gravy on it guys, it gets dry pretty quick

Excellent. Perfectly attentive servers and just the right amount of interaction. Our servers were very pleasant, smiley and very helpful without being over bearing. Food itself was brilliant. If anything the mains were too much. That IS NOT a complaint !! I should have stuck to the wrap. Overall very pleasant experience.

It's just okay. Food was quite tasty but quite expensive for what you actually get, especially the starters (2 spring rolls £7.50 as an example). Also, some of the cocktail ingredients were not in stock (!) which eliminated a few cocktails from the rather short list on offer anyway. Not for me, but others may like it.

My wife and I arrived with our two dogs to have food. Having done this previously we knew that we would be asked to sit at the bar side of the establishment. The waiter brought us water for the dogs and one of them lay down on my wife's jacket on a plastic bench seat. The waiter suggested this was OK. The waitress on shift then spoke to both dogs and we were told that the dog on her jacket was OK. Shortly after our food arrived I approached the man behind the bar to ask for salt and when he brought it he aggressively stated the dog wasn't allowed on the seat then he walked off. We sat for one minute then decided we were leaving but not before we went up to the bar to engage this man. He couldn't wait to tell us he was the restaurant manager and that he was implementing the policy on dogs. There was no hint of an apology for the way he spoke and he just kept repeating the same reply. We told him that we were leaving and he seemed non-plussed. He needs to go to customer service training and maybe even anger management. The bar where we had been seated had no other customers so there wouldn't be any complaint. We have just returned from The Lake District and found everywhere dog friendly but you can't find this at home. It seems to us that this place will close and the customer service may partly be to blame. We most definitely won't be back.

Been here quite a few times but really disappointed with the service provided this evening. Came to celebrate a big achievement, graduating university and decided on a local place to go for a nice meal and drink. The food was okay, but the service provided was abysmal and completely ruined what was a special day. I had ordered a few drinks which were fine, however the drink that I ordered was completely undrinkable, after trying a small amount, grabbed the attention of the waitress, without trying to make it into a big deal. The waitress returned and said, which I quote “ it’s not really our problem you don’t like the drink, if you want another one you’ll need to pay”. I was actually taken a back by the way in which this was said. I am not one to complain, and the fact is that If the drink was not to my taste, I simply would have drank it anyway to save embarrassment, however this was not the case and the drink was disgusting, I could not drink it. Firstly, I am embarrassed in which the way I was spoken to regarding this, and secondly shocked that such an establishment does not take paying customer feedback on board, and as a goodwill gesture, replaced the drink free of charge, I.e making it again, offering a replacement or taking it off the bill. None of these options were provided and the waitress was quite blunt. Not wanting to cause a scene and trying to enjoy the rest of my evening, I left it at that. However felt like I needed to post this review to let other people know how disappointing the service is. This is actually quite a small issue that could have been resolved there and then with decent customer service, however it was not and I’ve been left feeling upset over such a small situation. I recommend that you train your staff and management in better customer service, and recognise where a customer is not happy and try to resolve the issue. I was nothing but polite and felt like I had been treated rudely and unfairly. It was a special occasion and I won’t be able to re celebrate on that night. This is something which I suggest you look into. Unfortunately, I will not be returning and will be letting friends and family know the same. It’s really disappointing when a local business has bad customer service and does not seem interested.

Had a beautiful meal with friends here last night. Beautiful setting too. I had the king prawn Vivaldi and it was absolutely delicious and piping hot. Back next week and can’t wait 👍😃

Ate here on Sat 26th March around 6pm, I was greeted by 2 girls both very friendly, advised there was no space in the dining are but could eat in the bar side, given a menu and shown to a table. I ordered at the bar and again found the barman very friendly. I had the burger and chips and can honestly say it's the best burger I've had. It was my first visit here and will definitely be back soon

since the new owners have taken over in feb 2022 the food is fantastic. chic vibe, great cocktails, made properly not lile the “ open a sachet” type you tend to get in a lot of places. Great new DJ on a sat night playing top tunes inc House, dance etc , much better than the cheesy stuff used to play, its as good as any top chic bar on george street Edinburgh now and will deffo be back

The food quality is reasonable but it does seem quite expensive for what you get. The menu is a bit strange, instead of starters they have light bites like toasties, soup and haggis bon bons. Main courses include loads of different kinds of burgers and an £8 ceasar salad (without chicken; that costs extra). The restaurant itself is quite contemporary, very similar in style to the Wetherspoons that occupied the unit prior to this venue opening up here. The waitress was very nice, though extremely softly spoken so it was hard to hear her, but the service overall was good. I thought the meal was ok, very average, and not a particularly good deal. However not a bad choice if you're just looking for a hot basic dinner and you're stuck in the town centre of Bathgate. I would definitely not make a special trip to eat here in future though.

Good choice of bar food. Reasonably priced. Draught beer not to my liking...but G&Ts excellent. Would recommend.
