Hop Sing in South Kesteven

We wanted to celebrate a special occasion with our children and decided to try this restaurant for a change. We had the buffet menu to get a good array of dishes and it did not disappoint. The food was varied and very tasty. Thank you for a lovely evening

Very friendly staff, nice food, good price.

Unfortunately, there wasn't a buffet. 3 courses at lunchtime I was very disappointed with the food. My vegetarian friend had leven less choice. Website suggests otherwise . She asked for veggie curry and was plates up chicken!! Luckily, I tried it first

First time visiting Hop Sing and will certainly be back. We ordered off the buffet menu and was pleasantly surprised with the great choice of dishes. Service was good and food was delicious. Highly recommend

I don't know how restaurants can put out food so bad and still stay in business. Every item of food we had was clearly from a packet or jar and even egg fried rice was identical to the microwave rice you get in a packet. My prawns with pineapple turned up as sweet and sour, the sauce the same sickly red goo, from a supermarket jar and the prawns very clearly from a precooked supermaket packet. I say this because asian supermarkets are home to some of the most amazing invredients, including delicous large frozen prawns that are far superior to the ones we get in supermarkets. These were not those wonderful prawns. My husband, the same, overly goopy sweet plum sauce covered an over cooked piece of duck and called a hotpot. The prawn crackers had a strange taste to them, like when an oven hasn't been cleaned for years. The sesame prawn toast actually had no prawn in it, we lifted up the sesame layer and none, at all, it just had a faint prawn taste but no actual prawn. The decor was so dated its untrue, but we would forgive that if the food was good. We sat at a table for 4 that was cramped and extremely uncomfortable. Service was OK. Noone bothered to check whether the food was OK, which says a lot. I was actually worried about food poisoning after the funny tasting prawn crackers but fortunately we are OK.

I’ve Been to the restaurant for a meal with my daughter this evening. I was a little concerned about previous reviews that I’d read on here, most of which seemed inaccurate (I suppose that’s the issue with online reviews, some people would rather say when asked that everything is fine and then go home and write a negative review, if they simply stated the problem and say something whilst at the restaurant I’m sure it could easily be rectified) Overall it was Very pleasant experience with friendly staff, And decent food. I had a little bit of a wait for food but that was to be expected on Christmas Eve without a prior booking, I will definitely be going back again. Thank you, Tommy

Poorly organised, poor value for money, small portions, overcooked food. Boole to go in last Saturday night, bear in mind thry rang us 4 times to confirm we were going, whrn we arrived they looked shocked to see us and had to cobble togethor a table for 6 people. 1 bowl of prawn crackers arrived for 6 people, this set the tone for the rest of the meal. Pathetic portion sizes for all courses. We ordered desserts for all courses, mainly ice cream based, arrived as hard as nails you could barely get your spoon through them. At the end of the meal they had the audacity to add a 10% service charge. Forgive me if I'm wrong but isn't service, part of a meal, not an extra. If it had been a good experience needless to say we would have tipped appropriately. A poor finish to an overall poor experience, particularly so as it was an 80th birthday celebration.

Not the best experience at Hop Sing. From start to finish the service wasn’t very good. The waitresses didn’t really know what was going on and asked us if we wanted desserts before our main course even came out. Price wise it’s quite expensive; and that’s before the service charge they slam on. The food itself was good; but I’ve had much better in my time. Overall very underwhelming. 3/5

Had a table for 6, turned up at the restaurant & the table wasn't even ready, after they rang me four times in the day to make sure we were coming. Food well a set meal for 6, very expensive, we were given one medium size bowl of prawn crackers, so we paid extra for more. The duck & pancake starter was cold, had to ask for cutlery & plates through out the meal. There certainly was not enough food for six people, one of the main dishes was burnt. We had to pass the plates down, clear up & they had the cheek to put a service charge on the bill. The staff didn't have a clue, plus paid extra for a desert, not impressed, asked to have the service charge taken off the bill. This meal was for my dad's birthday, will not be returning & will not recormend to anyone.

Worse Chinese we’ve ever had, rice under cooked taste of citrus for some reason, chicken balls undercooked, chilli chips ordered normal chips arrived beef was a strange texture returned well over half of the food and wouldn’t even offer a partial refund

Delicious meal and wonderful lovely service from front of house team! We thoroughly enjoyed the authentic main courses especially hot pot and the starters were delicious. Had a great chat in Chinese with the waitress! Thank you!

Don’t understand all the negative reviews, snobby lot or what or just delusional. Food & service excellent although the decor could do with refreshing, other than that I would recommend.

We ordered our food from the menu that was sellotaped to the bar. We told the waitress that we wanted set menu A, which was advertised as £30 for two. There were no quualifications or service charges mentiooned. However, after our meal, when I went to pay at the bar, the waitress asked me for £40! I pointed out the menu on the bar, saying £30. "That's the take-away price," she said. It is legally dubious, that's for sure. Be warned. Don't get ripped-off like we did. There are plenty of decenent restaurants in Grantham. Sadly, this is not one of them. It's a matter of trust. Sharp practice like this should not be rewarded, so AVOID.

Absolutely lovely little authentic place, found by surprise but will definitely be going back, full of flavour and great friendly service, a must try if you like Chinese 👍

Avoid rice was congealed and leftover chips.

Tried this place tonight. Awful food. Chips dry and overcooked. Chow mein noodles soggy and overcooked. No flavour in curry or szechuan dish. Very bland. Extremely disappointed :(

Not the best. Went on a whim. Place was deserted and smelled damp. Food was bland and small portions. A mound of paperwork left in an empty booth.

Pretty average food, the 'all you can eat' option is far too expensive, and the restaurant is very dated inside.

We have just had a take away from this restaurant and can’t say how disappointed we are. The food tasted like it had been reheated and had little flavour and was greasy. Sadly we won’t be going back

My sister arranged a birthday meal for the family and they certainly did their best to make it feel like a special occasion. It hasn't changed since I was last there in the 90's but the food was very good.

I was the first customer at about 5.45 pm . Very low lighting but as my eyes adjusted very worn carpets , very run down. But I was there. Average main meal price was £10 . I ordered Duck in orange sauce with egg fried rice and Chinese tea - Bill £17.30p What I got was nice rice but duck and pineapple . Duck was scrag ends tough and the pineapple washed out any orange flavour. Without doubt my worst Chinese meal ever and I have cooked with a wok for over 40 years so I speak with home and other restaurant experience. Service was prompt but solemn. Not a cheerful place I would definitely never go back.

We went last night for a meal. Granted the restaurant looks a little old but the food was amazing. We had the set meal for three and my little one had plain noodles, every dish was fantastic, especially the sweet and sour fish. I would definitely recommend this place and will go back again.

Very disappointing meal! Tried this takeaway for the 1st time from the reviews and unfortunately I haven't had a positive experience. The meal took over an hour to arrive, when it did the bags were torn resulting in food spilled out over the table. Also, some of the food was cold. The chips and rice tasted vile! I don't recommend this restaurant and I will be sticking to Welcome, as I've yet to be disappointed by them plus the delivery is much quicker!!

Have visited Hop Singh for the 3rd time and each time it gets better.The food was awesome and the owner Shelley paid extra attention to us and offered us an amazing service as it was busy...I would definitely recommend anyone who likes oriental food to come to Hop Sing...you won't be disappointed...We shall be coming again with more of our friends and family. Food average, service rude, toilet shocking and restaurant tired and old. 12 of us ate here and it will be the last supper at this restaurant for us.

Mixed reviews on the service here, lady that I assume was the manager was excellent however the other lady serving us seemed to have no idea what we had ordered or what we need Food mediocre, wouldn’t recommend

Service was good and the staff were very friendly. Food was nice, plenty between us all and very affordable. The restaurant could do with a little freshen up of the decor inside but otherwise lovely place.

When my order arrived it was cold, I called to explain the waitress said she would ask the manger reply was there was nothing she could do. I proceeded i wanted to speak to manager and after a questionable conversation she asked the delivery guy to fetch it back. The delivery guy collected the food and was very helpful and apologetic. The manger called and said two pancake rolls where missing and some chips i had tried and half eaten which went in the bin i didnt even try the other dishes I ordered. The when it was delivered by the delivery man one dish was missing but the reorder was piping hot. So again i called the manager who did not believe i never touched the other dishes and didnt know one was missing. The call ended by i hadnt sent the dish back so they never reheated, i spent £27 on a take away im a regular customer and this is how im treat enough i am going to try another chinese

We visited on Saturday 19th November. The restaurant was busy. It had a nice buzz to the place. We ordered from the buffet menu, for the three of us. We had mixed starters, chicken satay, bbq ribs, smoked shredded chicken and five spiced squid. We skipped the soup/duck course and went onto mains. We had lemon chicken, crispy shredded beef, duck Cantonese style, chicken with cashew nuts, rice and noodles. The food was hot and delicious. We were served promptly and with a friendly and welcoming manner. It has been a number of years since I have eaten here, but I wasn't disappointed. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and we will be back. Don't change a thing guys, it was fabulous.

Always been the best , but has dropped in standards a bit portion sizes have got smaller and a little pricey

We always have had the best meals at hopsings .sadly I booked for my hubby's birthday arriving staff were friendly and accomadating.after sitting down we noticed how cold it was in the restaurant. Food was served without the usual food warmers so soon went cold .food quality was excellent as usual spoilt by being cold .i do hope this is just a one of and isn't how things will be as this is now the only Chinese restaurant in town that has a sit down menu .I appreciate how things are more expensive now but hate to see hopsings joining the many takeaway only restaurants in town 😔

So disappointing! Our memories of the great dishes served here 12 years ago by Mike Lay and his team, drew us back here on our return visit from Australia with excitement of the same experience. Only 2 dishes plus rice ordered. 40 mins wait! When it finally arrived!...... What we received was a poor quality, poor tasting and almost inedible and unrecognizable 2 dishes. Crispy chilli beef, just overfried batter sticks, if there was indeed any beef at all! Sizzling pork chop pekinese style...not the succulent pork in the far distant past but small lumps of meat(?) In an unappetizing sauce with huge lumps of almost raw onions. The rice was ok what there was of it! £££££ Never again! What a shame!

Happened to park outside Hop Sing and decided to give it a try. So glad we did! Opted for the buffet menu, but instead of food spread out, the dishes are cooked to order. 4 starters at a time, as many times as you like, then 6 mains and sides, also as many times as you like for £21.90. Everything we had was fresh, hot and flavoursome. Our waitress was lovely, chatted to us, and recommended dishes for us to try. We were the only people sitting in but others were in for takeaway. Great food, great service. Would absolutely recommend!!

Had a meal there tonight. I have to say the service from Louisa was outstanding and the way she handled a mis understanding was so professional and outstanding. She was amazing all night. So friendly and funny.she was the best thing about the meal tonight. Went out of her way to give us a good night.even bringing out birthday cake for my daughters 13th birthday and speaking to her about her recent nose piercing. She's the only reason for the 5 stars. The restaurant nice and clean and service from other waitresses was great but not to Louisas level. If I was rating on just the food I would only give 3, the beef dish had no flavour and the chicken balls were hard and greasy and the chips were hard,honestly have to say Jimmy's was a better Chinese restaurant,travelled from Leicester to see grandparents and they picked this place, if I was to go back it would only be to receive the great service from Louisa again. Great girl but I think your wasted there.

Hop Sing used to do good food but my last two meals from there were the worst chinese food i've ever eaten, i won't be going back again.

The worst Chinese me and my husband have ever had. The food we ordered was greasy,and the sizzling crispy beef was just batter. So bad we sent it back. I was told it was because I wasn’t from Grantham my taste buds are not use to their food.Such a waste of money would not recommend. Should have known we were the only people in the place. What does that say!!

Decent food, great time, massive thank you to the young waitress with the long ponytail and the facial piercings, she was a gem! A real hardworking sweetie, a genuine good soul, please don't ever let her go, made our night ☺️😘😘😘

Food OK, waitresses lovely but seemed inexperienced. 4 of us had one of the set menus and had to stop them bringing food because they'd missed out 1 of our courses completely. Shambolic desserts 2 of which took that long (ice cream!) That we had to leave without eating them because we had a pre ordered taxi waiting. Won't go back.

Enjoyable, good value lunch. Three courses, not the biggest portions, but fine for me. Excellent tasting food.

Used to go here alot as a kid with the family, not been in for over 30 years as don't live in the area anymore...So it was lovely to reminisce again. Yes the decor has changed but the food is as as good as ever. Fantastic friendly service, and we all left happy to go down memory lane full of delicious food...We shall be back, sooner than another 30 years.

Ordered first time last night if your reading this it was order #7341, arrived 20mins later than scheduled 810pm arrived 832pm , was cold so had to reheat immediately after waiting so long for it. And the ribs if they can be called that were mostly just bone with mashed up meat in the sauce. Really disappointed with the experience, avoid at all costs!

It had been my birthday and I had wanted some chinese.i ordered it to be delivered just before 11:30 and it had dilivered just before 1pm which wasn't too bad since they open by 12. The food was terrible and I had completely thrown up dew to this. I had ordered some fried rice ( chicken and egg ) - this wasn't bad but there was no flavour at all and it was very bland in taste , spring roll (giant) - was completely disgusting and it was something that really put me off it was incredibly oily with an obnoxious amount of stuffing that really made me sick ,I it was tearing apart from the package itself and I hated it . Chicken balls - this came with a sweet and sour sauce which really bad since there was no flavour and felt mushy and as stuckbetween was incredibly off putting the taste felt overwhelming and had me regret buying this Ithe chicken soup wassnt bad as expected but was still mushy and all the layers of chicken or what ever kept separating from a thick gravy like texture to a diluted chicken soup which really isn't what I was expecting . I really hated my experience but I hope this improves immediately and coming from an Asian person utslef it's kinda straight forward . I know me and my family will never be returning to this restaurant when we are craving for Chinese food etc

Went to hop sing with a couple of friends for a birthday, they had a put a little birthday banner up, the food was fantastic and all the staff was very friendly and helpful. Will be taking hubby there soon 😋

Takeaway. Very poor. Prawns fried in batter were dry and like cardboard. They seemed to be old. Chicken not cooked. Couldn’t eat it. Took the food back and owner did not come out from the kitchen. To be fair she gave me a call later to offer a 50% refund since we ate the prawns. Not good enough. Won’t go there again.

Called in for Saturday lunch. What a RIP off starter was 1 spare rib cut into 2. Main well the pork was like chewing dehydrated leather and the rice was under cooked dry and salty. Banana fritter was just about OK Realise now why I was the only customer .

Ordered a takaway service for just under £40 for two people .and it barely fed us both .smallest portions i've ever seen from a chinese takeaway .really disappionted .

Been going to that restaurant 4 years fully authentic Chinese food quite recommend it not sure who owns it now but used to be very good.

Just been for lunch again. I cannot fault Hop Sing restaurant. In my opinion, it is one of the best l have been to. The menu is very extensive & food always extremely well cooked & flavoured. A warm welcome is assured by Shelly, the proprietor, assisted by her sister, Kelsie.i can wholeheartedly recommend Hop Sing to anyone who enjoys good chinese food. 👍 🎩

Food was really good and deliverd quicker than the time stated, the only disappointment was the curry wasn't spicy enough for my personal taste. My toddler approved of the crackers as he ate nearly the whole bag by him self
