Hooked in South Lakeland

We enjoyed a delicious meal. Both the starters and mains we chose were beautifully cooked and presented. The waitress was friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this restaurant to any other fish lovers visiting the lakes.

Staff were very friendly and welcoming. The drinks menu was quite limited and the food menu was overpriced for what it was. For the prawn starter you only received 3 prawns and the sea bass didn’t have much accompanying it. We had a starter, main and shared some fries on the side (they say chips on the menu but they’re fries) and we left hungry. The fish was tasty but nothing to shout about. The lemon butter sauce on the sea bass was too strong and spoiled the fish slightly. The food was presented well though.

So booked our first nights dinner here. They offered a 8pm sit. We arrived and were told that there was only one bream starter.. ok fine. Then the lady says there is no mussels No Sea Bass No Swordfish for main. Ok we were stuck as it was now 8/30 so alternate restaurants not available. I ordered Monkfish and my partner Trout: Monkfish was good but the crab it came with was Dire…appalling My partner had the trout and after about 5 mins the waitress came out and says that they have now run out of Ratatouille…..it was substituted with broccoli and Rick hard carrots: I had a Pino which was on and with my main fancied a red so asked for a Malbec…. Terrible wine… I told the waitress of all my concerns but she disappeared and I was given the bill… The price was laughable. Tonight we went to Gilpin Spice… Paid the same money and WOW what an experience….

What a gem this restaurant is, clean, friendly, engaging.. lovely varied menu serving very top quality food very well presented with a very good value wine list .. the food was simply top class and the staff completely focused on providing the best service possible .. very highly recommended

Lovely little restaurant, atmosphere was really nice, service was great. Mussels were really tasty, however we left disappointed with the quality of the oysters we had. Chef seemed to have forgotten to clean them out thoroughly as the oysters we received were full of chipped bits of shell.. not ideal at all, had to send them back, as we didn’t want to continuously swallow shell.. We were definitely not expecting this from a seafood restaurant.

Our second time at this little gem in Windermere. As expected, food was very well presented and nicely timed. Oysters were creamy and surprisingly big. Wine menu offered a food choice of very good and well priced wines.

We rang ahead to check the restaurant was open (a lot of snow had fallen and the roads weren’t gritted) and it was. We were the only people dining to start with and the restaurant manager was extremely attentive and very welcoming, several people came a little later. We ordered a range of seafood to start (octopus, scollops, chowder - each dish was excellent and beautifully presented). The mains were also very good - mussels, sword fish: exceedingly fresh and beautifully prepared. Lemon tart afterwards was by no means shabby either (pastry slightly thick if I had to search for a minor criticism)! We will definitely be back. Thank you Hooked!

My wife and I dined here while staying at a nearby B&B in Windermere as our host had included Hooked in her restaurant recommendations. I've dined in very nice restaurants in many parts of the world, including Paris, Milan, Rome, San Francisco, London, Lake Tahoe, etc. This was one of my favorite dining experiences of my life due to the quality of the meal, the relaxed but attentive service, and the small restaurant ambience. Our dinner here was during a 3 week trip to England and Scotland and at this point I've forgotten some of the details of the meal and regret to say that I can no longer recall the names of the two servers there. The male was an Italian who'd been living in England for some time, so he spoke perfect English. I enjoyed using my limited Italian dining vocabular while I was there even though it was not necessary. I was just trying to impress the waiter! As I said, the service was relaxed but attentive. By that I mean that the two servers never acted rushed even though the restaurant filled up during our dinner hour. They took time to converse with us and we all learned a little more about one another. This, to me, is an important part of the dining experience. Just two nights earlier, we were dining in a posh restaurant in London (a Rolls Royce dealership right across the street!) and while it was fancy, the entire wait staff seemed overly formal and almost on edge the entire time. The London dining experience was more expensive than our meal at Hooked, but nowhere near as enjoyable. We had a terrific bottle of wine (Saget la Perriere Sancerre). We ordered their scallops as one of the appetizers and ate that while they were preparing our main dishes. As the waitress took away our empty plate after we finished the scallops, I told her they were so good we would like one more. I told her I wasn't kidding. I realized this probably threw a monkey wrench into their plans for cooking our meal, but they handled it perfectly. The second plate of scallops soon arrived and when we were done the main dishes arrived perfectly cooked. Mine was salmon, but again I don't remember the details of how it was prepared other than to say it was moist and cooked perfectly. I don't recall what my wife had but she loved her dish as well. We arrived early in the evening, with no reservations. Fortunately they were able to accommodate us with no fuss and we were seated immediately, but this was before the restaurant filled up. I recommend reservations if you plan to dine here. Typical of European dining customs, there was never any rush to get us out of there so that they could turn the table over to the next patrons. We stayed for perhaps two hours, again chatting with the two servers as the evening wound down. The menu is primarily seafood, so if that's not your thing then you may want to look elsewhere, but there is enough selection that most people will find something they like.

Had a lovely evening at Hooked! The food was amazing from start to finish. I had the smoked salmon to start that was light, tender and the tastiest I’ve ever tasted. Loved the decor and ambience. Our waitress Kay was knowledgable and friendly and recommended a beautiful wine to accompany our food, and with us being too full for desserts she tempted us to cocktails instead. A great evening!

Food was ok. But poor standard of service. On a Thursday night, four main items on a small menu were not available. The only waitress appeared to be inexperienced in the job. Wine glass chipped. We were given a desert spoon for our soup. All super basic error. Won’t recommend it.

We opted for the 2 courses for £30 - fish was delicious. You pay extra for greens - which were over priced - but other than that good value for money. Dessert was extra but fabulous- profiteroles melted in the mouth and sticky toffee was light. Good wine menu. Lovely atmosphere and very friendly staff. Definitely go here if you’re visiting Windermere - you need to book and can do so online.

We’ve been meaning to try here for ages! Oh wow it’s amazing! Staff so lovely and knowledgeable. And the food is delicious and cooked to perfection. Looking forward to our next visit!

The small restaurant is welcoming and warm with one of the nicest, friendliest waitresses we’ve met in a long time. Chatty but not in your face and cheerful! The food was delicious - the tall one was really complimentary about his monkfish, beautiful flavours. He did have food envy over my sardines which I have to admit was so fresh, simple and a delight to eat. For lovers of seafood, this has to be on your go to list restaurants - you won’t be disappointed. For a Monday the restaurant was busy and I can understand why. This is a chef that knows how to cook fish/ seafood and it really is the star of the show

Visited Hooked for my Wife’s Birthday and I’m so glad we did It, the service and staff were both excellent and super friendly which gave a great atmosphere and the food was first class, we’re back in Windermere in December with family so we have re booked, I would highly recommend it 👍🏻

Hooked is a great fish and seafood restaurant. The staff are very friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu. They were able to provide us with good advice when ordering which we then took on board (and appreciated)! The restaurant does not seat many, but this makes for a nice relaxing atmosphere. The monkfish was very good although I think the soft shell crab somewhat let the dish down overall. I would definitely return and would like to try the lunch menu.

Stunning food! If you love fish and seafood this is a must when visiting Windermere. Be sure to book before you visit as it does get very busy. Everything was delicious from start to finish!

This is really a great sea food restaurant. Make sure you have a reservation, because you don’t want to miss this one. The staff is very nice. The starters were great, I had the clam pho soup. The hake with lobster glaze was baked to perfection. The vanilla icecream with biscoff icecream was delicious. Highly recommended! A nice ending to our Dales Way walk.

Simply the best fish and seafood in Windermere or Bowness. Cannot praise the food and service enough. If you like seafood you must visit.

Hooked is an excellent restaurant - accommodating, great service and food. Thoroughly enjoyed dining here and highly recommend for a pleasant experience.

We had dinner here 4 nights ago and what a delight it was .!The food was faultless and the staff were outstanding.As the name suggests it's a fish restaurant and everything they serve is absolutely too quality from starters through to the desserts.Unfortunately I didn't get the waitresses names but they went above and beyond by booking a taxi for us and letting us stay inside because it was raining even though it was past their closing time..On a personal note they gave me a birthday card and sang happy birthday to me when they found out it was my 70th birthday.All in all of you like fish this is a must visit
