Best fish and chips in Farnham area

So… a good chip shop when they opened. The delivery I got was cold, chips all scraps, been sitting there for ages I think. The batter on fish was rock solid like toffee and an orange colour. . The peas had zero taste, no seasoning and were cold. I live about 500 metres from fish shop and it was like eating cold chips I used to get at school. Even worse. The chip shop has went so bad. It was late too. Terrible.. sorry I never leave reviews but this was a terrible experience. Awful.

I live in Canada but travel home to the UK frequently. Each time I am back I am always on a mission to get some decent fish and chips. This place is a gem and has become my go-to spot. Good quality ingredients, perfectly prepared whilst you wait a few minutes. Chips nice and soft on the inside slightly crisp on the outside. Good size potions with flakey fish in nice crispy batter. Staff are always very friendly, especially the girl from Portugal who always finds the time to chat with her customers. Shop uncluttered and clean. Highly recommended.

I had a takeaway haddock and small chips and it was so tasty! The batter is light and not greasy, the haddock portion is huge and the chips are crispy yet fluffy inside - total perfection! Bonus - the shop is clean as a whistle unlike other chip shops. The lady at the counter is really nice and efficient too.

The shop is spotless, shiny and new. The staff are very friendly - different to some in the area. My son and I ordered haddock and chips. Haddock was sold out so we had cod and we weren't disappointed. Everything is freshly cooked. Chips are crisp on the outside, soft in. Lovely! Fish is gorgeous, flakey white flesh in a light golden batter. Beautiful. Curry sauce is thick and tasty. This will be our new regular. Back to its best under this management. Went back again last night (4/11/2022) for haddock and chips and curry sauce and as usual it was the best. Absolutely delicious, still recommended 100%.

Joanne and Monica are amazing people the ask me all the time how I am doing because I have recently just lost my dad to a big heart attack and if I need anything to just ask and just pop in and see them. Amazing woman all around

Really large potions couldn't eat. Very crispy & lovely. Had the Irish curry never heard off, was really really good 👍. Very quick & friendly.

First time I've tried this chippy. Well at least since it's been renamed. I ordered for collection. 10 minutes they assured me. When I arrived the order wasn't ready. Asked for menu to take home. I was told to take photos of menu on the wall. So my first impressions were a bit down the scale...But to my surprise 😮 the fish and chips were really nice 👌. And I'd gladly use them again.. Get some menus hooked.

Possibly the worst chips shop around . Order my food then had to wait 10 mins to be told that they didn't have any . When I was told so I asked for refund, but then after that I was being called a liar over time I had to wait .. shocking waiting times and food is at best substandard. I understand that it's best to cook to order but the waiting times here are absolutely shocking. I normally use this chip shop every Friday but I will never go back , even after the " owner" phone me but could get to grips with an apology doesn't end with " but your a liar ".. Great customer service pffft

Very disappointing.. ordered two burgers. States they come with salad.. no salad.. very bland.. chips weren't any better. Its a shame as have been before with no issues. Doubt I will be back unfortunately

One of the best fish and chip shops I've ever been in. Friendly service, freshly cooked, great batter on fresh fish and the chips are really special.

This place is an absolute gem, you need it in your life. Been going here since 1995 it was lush then and its lush now. The ppl that are running now have it spot on. Rite from walking in the door, the lasses out front are welcoming, Boss always says hi and is damn good at his job. Top fryer. Food is amazing. Proud to reccomend HOOKED FISH & CHIPS.

Initially gave this place five stars as the food is lovely and the staff are lovely - unfortunately recently they don’t seem able to keep up with the popularity. The past few times we have been, lots of menu items haven’t been available. Tonight we went to get just cod and chips, after 30 minutes of queuing we were told that there were not even any chips left. It would have been helpful to know that food was limited when we joined the queue so that we could’ve gone elsewhere instead. This wasn’t even close to closing time, and on a weekday - a real shame to be honest given the quality.

Went today for the 1st time and got a warm welcome from the friendly staff. Clean and tidy shop. The food is fantastic. Tender flaky fish, chips were cooked to perfection. The other half got sausage and chips with a spam fritter, it was that big it was like a door stop! Each meal was to much to eat in one go. Great value for money. Looking forward to many other visits.

The staff here are very friendful and helpful. The fish and chips we had were really tasty and not greasy at all and the tartare sauce they make is amazing 👌. The staff are always happy to welcome you to the shop.

My friend and me purposely want to tried this shop for our afternoon tea. Shop is bright and very clean inside. Staff are friendly and sincere. We had ordered large cod, small chip, pineapple ring and onion ring, and drinks of course. When the food came, all the food was very good. Delicious, freshly cooked and piping hot, no batter, good quality ingredient. The look of them was crispy and inviting, and they were really delicious and wonderful. Highly recommended and WE WILL BE BACK !

Fresh and crispy loveliness! My Mum and I treated ourselves to 'small fish and chips' at lunchtime. It was divine. Crispy chips that were fluffy inside. Crunchy batter. It was yum. The lady behind the fryer was just finishing a batch of cheese patties, and was starting on fishcakes while I was waiting. I might try home made fishcake next time. We were very impressed.

A bit chaotic at present due to Covid precautions but the best fish and chips in the area.

HOOKED ON HOOKED FISH AND CHIPS!! As this was my first time here I ordered the small cod and chips and a battered sausage to try the place out as the previous 2 establishments located here have not been great. I can hand on heart say that the food here is nothing short of a delicacy. Easily the best sausage and fish and chips I have had. The chips in particular were amazing , perfectly cooked and with a lovely crunch - think triple cooked. No sogginess in site. Everything screamed fresh! An added bonus for me was that Tartar sauce is sold in tub rather than a sachet like most other places. Staff were great and I was served very quickly. Consider me a new loyal customer and next time I will be ordering large!

Cracking little chippy. Popped in while working in the area and got a £3 meal deal for lunch. The woman that served me was super nice. The food was hot and tasty.

The best fish and chips in Gosforth.

Very disappointed last night with what was to be fish and chips. No fish ready, and I was in a hurry, so I asked for 2 lots of chips with some batter as nothing else ready, not even sausages! The woman serving was particularly grumpy, and when I got back to the car, no batter on the chips. For me, batter makes all the difference, the chips seemed dry, not nice at all. I think that particular member of staff needs re-training. Gosforth Chippy for me next time.

Excellent fish and chips and chip shop classics, with very reasonable prices and lunch time deals. Started selling amazing authentic pizzas well worth a try much better than anything around and half price at the moment, which makes them superb for the price.

Food is great but they need to work on the queuing in / out of the shop. Waiting outside in the rain is not on when there's no one in the shop other than the staff.

Best Fish and Chip shop in the North East bar none. If you haven't tried it yet, do it. The food is fresh and cooked to perfection, the chips are amazing, crisp and not at all greasy.

Very disappointed, we used to enjoy our gluten free fish and chips. It was great to have a local fish shop that catered for my allergy. No longer does gluten free on an evening. So sad.

Food delicious but very unorganised and slow. I understand that the fish is cooked fresh but waiting 30 minutes when there was only a queue of 4 people means I'd be unlikely to return.

Excellent traditional fish chip shop replacing the rubbish previous occupants who had run the place down. It's now great fish and chips although slow service partly due to C19

Been here a few times and the fish and chips is always very nice which is why this isn't a one star review. What badly let's it down is that the service is so slow. They cook to order and so there are never any fish ready to go and its always at least a 15 minute wait. Im no.chip shop coniseur but other chip shops I've visited there are fish always on the go and I only end up waiting 5 minutes. Tonight I waited 20 minutes and then when I asked how long it would be I was told the fish was only just going in because they ran out and more needed to be cut. If I was told it was going to be a 30 minute wait then I'd have just left. One person asked for a refund and walked out while I was in there because of the wait. Fish and chips is so nice its a shame the slow service lets it down.

Obviously because of coronavirus there are restrictions on queues and it is all very safe. You have to wait outside until your order is ready.

Went for 2 chips and it took aboit 10 mins an empty shop, nearly forgot my pop if i didnt remind them. Forgot to put batter on. To top it off she didnt put the lid on the curry saice properly and my bags soaking.

First time visited, great chips, sausage and spicy curry sauce for a good price. Good size portion too. Will be back.

First time for eating from here. I ordered 3 cod bites, chips & curry mild sauce. It was absolutely delicious, portion sizes were big, I struggled to eat my 3rd cod bite and left about half the chips. I defiantly will go back.

I visted the shop for the first time this evening and the first thing I noticed was the fact that the shop is very clean. The staff are very friendly despite being very busy and needing to work extremely hard to keep up with demand. I am not surprised that they are busy because the fish and chips are gorgeous and like many of their customers, I will be going back there again.

Oh my this place is unreal the food is amazing piping hot and fresh, while u have to wait for freshly cooked items believe me it’s worth the wait the cheese patty is totally delicious never had one like it the only chips that are crispy as well I’ll definitely be back again beautiful

Went here for first time on Friday evening - but it wont be the last time! Lovely fresh fish in a light batter & chips were lovely. Good spicy curry, kids loved the burger & gravy was a hit too. Staff really friendly & efficient. Another lovely touch was they put some batter in a separate bag for us. Social distancing totally adhered to as well. Think I'll eat my way through the menu! Lol!

Just had fish n chips and they were delicious. So fresh. My husband said they were the best chips he's had in a long while. Being Friday evening there was a lengthy queue which looked longer because of social distancing. Unfortunately several people walked away but my husband was back in 20 minutes and it was worth the wait 😊

Just had Fish & Chips here in the new chippy in South Gosforth and it was honestly the best fish and chips I've had in a LONG time . Chips were really fresh, fish batter was light and crispy and both cooked to perfection !
