Hook Fish & Chips in Northumberland

Stopped off at Hook for lunch after visiting Bamburgh Castle. Staff were pleasant and able to answer our gluten free questions. Food was value for money, freshly cooked and served in good time.

We visited here yesterday. Normally we go to Neptunes but as we'd adopted a puppy we visited Hook instead. It's owned by Neptune's so we were hoping for a similar experience. Sadly we've been ill with upset tummies since our visit. I had gluten free haddock and chips, peas and my husband had normal haddock and chips, curry sauce. I only ate a portion of mine as the chips were tepid when they arrived and weren't up to the quality of Neptunes. The fish was fresh, but as everything was served on cold plates it went cold by the third mouthful. It didn't help being asked to sit at the back of the restaurant (which we were happy to do), however, every time someone walked in from the street a freezing cold blast of air and the smell of drains hit you when you were eating. Fish and chips in seahouses is expensive and when you pay £46.10 for two haddock suppers, a cup of tea and a coke you expect a lot more as it's a treat. As locals, this is usually once a month for us. To be fair, we were in Cheshire last weekend visiting family and paid £11:00 each for the same meal. I'm unsure how it can be so much more expensive up here? I'd advise if you have a dog then stick to Neptune's, buy your food as a take away and sit on the benches near the harbour. You're guaranteed a better bite to eat if you do.

Lovely staff and the food was just what we were looking for. Plus they serve Costa Coffee.

I'm surprised looking back at some of the reviews as we enjoyed a delicious fish and chip lunch here. This was the first option we found in the main centre that was dog friendly and delighted it was. Service and food were great. Would happily go back for more. I don't think of fish and chips as being a cheap meal anymore, so was happy overall with the cost for the quality and service.

Visited 20/5/25 had light bites cod and chips with bread butter and pot of tea excellent really crisp batter not greasy. The staff were very friendley and efficient could not have had better meal anywhere.

Very modern fish and chip shop with sit in restaurant on one side which looked very nice but very few people inside. The takeaway I went into I was the only person in and Seahouses was busy with carparks full. £13.50 for fish and chips which is the most expensive takeaway price I have ever seen. no choice on size so you couldn't order a smaller portion. They offered cod or haddock but I wasn't offered either. The chips were nice but wasn't keen on the batter on the fish was crispy on the outside but soggy and slimy once inside.

It was a busy Sunday lunchtime and cold and windy, so looking forward somewhere for 4 adults and a dog we thought might be pushing it....... However we noticed in the window of the Hook fish and chip restaurant a sign saying 'dogs welcome'. We were greeted and the door was opened and we were given the choice of tables to sit at. Beautifully clean and fresh all vacant tables were laid ready with menus and cutlery etc. Our order was taken and our drinks were swiftly delivered to us followed very quickly by the food 😁. All the staff were so polite and respectful and their customer service was absolutely brilliant. The food was lovely. Freshly cooked and nicely served. As tables were being emptying the excellent staff were on it cleaning and settling up the area ready for the next people. Excellent value for money with good portions and it's Costa coffee ☕. It's all so very nice that if we go back to Seahouses will definitely go there again. Thanks to the staff for looking after us so we'll and thanks to the chefs for our lovely food. You can eat in or there is a takeaway counter too. Enjoy folks 😋.

Lovely food, service n dog friendly. We had some takeaway fish n chips from here a few years ago n thought they were the best we'd ever had so we had to go back whilst on holiday n yes, exactly the same except this time we sat in the restaurant

Good portion sized and friendly staff.

The fish and chips were great (but they are never as good as your local chippy are they?) The staff were very friendly and attentive and although the price was a little high we were satisfied that they were worth it. Booths were a bit small but the portions were huge

Good fresh, all good quality. Chips very good. Cheese pie meal good, but size of chip portion small though, glad I'd ordered more. Bit pricey particularly the drinks.

Absolutely fab, food was amazing, hot and fresh. Very clean and tidy restaurant with a nice relaxing atmosphere. Staff very friendly especially the big lass with the glasses.

We visited Seahouses with mum & dad & our dog.We went into this dog friendly restaurant & really enjoyed our fish & chips.The fish was beautiful, batter perfect .All staff were really polite & good service x

Had our tea here today, food was lovely, light crispy batter on both the fish and the tempura prawns, service was great and atmosphere was very welcoming. Arrived at 4pm and got served almost immediately.

Great value for money!!! Their tarter sauce is divine.

This is a lovely clean and modern restaurant. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. As well as great tasting food, they also serve Costa coffee hot drinks.

worst fish i have had. batter was thick and undercooked. made me feel sick. prices extortionate. will not be returning.

We ate in 2 adults 2 children with our dog. Service was good the food was all hot, fresh and tasty. We had cod and chips x2, kids fish and chips x2, mushy peas, curry sauce, 2 teas and 2 soft drinks £67 so not the cheapest (and significantly more expensive than their takeaway option) but no complaints on the quality or service. The restraunt is nice inside. I would return

Excellent food, every time I eat here it's fantastic food.

Visited here on a weekday lunchtime and purchased cheeseburger and chips. The burger was honestly the worst I have ever tasted and came on a dry unbuttered bap. The burger had a strange taste and was dry and tough, the outside was a weird orange colour and grey inside. A cheap processed cheese slice was slapped on top that wasn’t even melted. If you wanted any sauce you had to buy it separately so we didn’t bother. The chips were fine though!

Decided to go here because they were advertised as dog friendly. They certainly were. The food was really good and service was excellent.

Really good lunch. Took our 1 year old, high chairs available. Also took our dog. Fish and Chips were great, battered sausage too. Service very prompt and friendly.

The chips me and my wife had yesterday were the worst chips ever tasteless wouldnt go back here comes to something when a fishing village cant cook chips

Polite servers and good fish and chips. Disgusted at chef behind range who in little over 5 minutes told the counter staff to tell the customers to f*** off three times. Unacceptable. I’ll certainly go elsewhere next time I’m in Seahouses.

Great chippy food, the scampi was excellent, the battered cod was excellent, and the chips were excellent! Service was hospitable, I might go for the deep-fried haggis next time.

Not normally one to write reviews but this was the worst fish I’ve ever had, didn’t eat it. It was flat, greasy and looked like something you would buy from the freezer section of a supermarket. Chips tasted like they had been sat for hours. Won’t return and definitely don’t recommend. Lots more places to choose in seahouses!

For a fish and chip shop they can't cook a fish greasy batter and fish under cooked

Amazing fresh fish and great meal

Came today, we live an hour away but neptunes is my coeliac daughters favourite chip shop so as a treat we drove up for a meal. Unfortunately it was closed when we arrived so nipped over to hooks across the road, our first time here and didn’t know what to expect, we was asked to order gluten free battered sausage and chips, o believe it may be the same company as neptunes. Just as good and glad it wasn’t a wasted 1 hour journey, thanks for offering gluten free options,

Fish was lovely, but the chips were reheats. We were the only people in for most of the meal. Nice friendly service though.

Had fish, chips & curry to take away today. The best we’ve had in a long time & didn’t have to wait long at all for them. The staff were lovely even gave us extra curry pot & a bottle of water for free. Would highly recommend

Called in here for a lunchtime meal. All four of us had the light fish and chips with mushy peas, tartar sauce, bread and butter and tea or coffee. All freshly cooked, we didn't have to wait long and the staff were pleasant and attentive. And most of all we all thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Went here for lunch, ordered cod and chips and my partner ordered a chip butty, had to wait for the fish to be cooked which I thought great it will be nice and fresh, was very wrong more batter than fish the chips were dry, very disappointing, will not be going back there

Lovely double battered and chips with gravy. Dogs allowed and may even help as the plates of food are plentiful.

Popped into this dog friendly fish and chip restaurant. Lovely staff and warm welcome. Food was great with a full choice. Good sized portions. I chose the fish & chip light bite and my husband had sausage and chips. Staff are visible and attentive. A very clean restaurant. Will definitely be returning.

After a long beach walk from Bamburgh called in here for lunch. I think we were their first customers, staff very welcoming. Attended to within minutes and food arrived very quickly after. Huge cod portion, delicious and the batter was perfect, with chips and bread. Hubby had battered sausage, expecting only one so pleasantly surprised when two arrived with a side of chips. Costa drinks very good too. Toilets upstairs are clean.

Great place to stay on the island. Nice room with tea and coffee what more can you want.

Call here often to sit in and enjoy hot fresh fish n chips which are reasonably priced. Never disappointed.

Popped in because I couldn't be bothered to cook. Had gluton free sausages on daughters recommendation as she thought them tasty. I didn't think so, but that may be just my palate. Chips, gravey and tea all good.

Chips were hours old. All dried up and not at all fresh. The fish was nice though and staff pleasant

Went in here on holiday. Food was good but our waitress was fantastic. Very friendly and helpful, and looked after us when my partner had a nosebleed.

A nice, bright, modern fish and chip restaurant. We were seated quickly, and our waiter was friendly and attentive. The food was brought out fast, we ordered the Light Special and it was the perfect portion size. The fish was a little greasy on the plate but overall the batter was good, chips were great, sides that were included were tasty. Recommend.

We intended going to Neptune Fish Restaurant but the eat-in area was closed so we went across the road to Hook Fish & Chips where we found they were both owned by the same group. The restaurant was clean and the staff very friendly. We both had pie & chips as a change to the ubiquitous fish & chips and the portions was large and the food very tasty. An excellent experience.

We visited on 16th Sept late afternoon for an early dinner. We were seated straight away and the gentleman who seated us explained he would come to take our order shortly once we had chance to check the menus. We ordered the light bite fish and chip which comes with a drink of tea or coffee. It was a very generous portion for a light bites option. The fish tasted really good and the batter was light and crispy. Would definitely recommend visiting and will be coming back again next time we are in the area

Nice eat in fish and chip shop. Although it was pricy, the staff were friendly and the plates were generous. I had scampi and chips and my husband had cod and chips. We were given bread and butter with both. Dogs are allowed as long as they are well behaved. This place I think closes at 7.45?, so don’t leave it late to eat.

Stopped for early teatime. Service and staff very helpful and friendly . Food was well presented and tasted wonderful . We had the lite bite fish special and there was plenty and very good value for money

We all enjoyed our visit to Hooks whilst at Seahouses. The light bite fish and chips were a bargain as they came with a drink and were delicious. The staff were friendly and efficient making the meal an enjoyable experience.

The staff were proactive in getting out the ramp to allow my disabled daughter to enter the restaurant, even before we had asked for it. They were exceptionally attentive and accommodating and the food was lovely. All the family enjoyed it, even the fussiest child. Would definitely recommend this place!

The best fish and chips I’ve ever eaten Excellent service every time

Visited with wife, both had haddock fillets and chips. Fish was very good fresh from fryer but chips were rubbish, had been standing, looked dried plus 'bitsy'. Food got 3 star rating, 4 star for fish , 2 star for chips. Paid 16.95 each for meal, 3.00 for small 1cup pot of tea and 2.50 for something described as Fanta orange. Meal included slice bread and butter. Not sure I would revisit.

The food was very good and being able to take our dogs in with us was helpful. Just compared you menu prices on your web site and they need updating.

First and last time, came to seahouses for day out and went to hook (takeaway) for lunch, lukewarm, grease tasting chips and a fish that tasted and felt frozen, had better food from other coastal areas and better prices,

Dogs welcome! That lured us in and what a lovely greeting we received. Our booth at the far back was the best seat in the house, meaning our Golden Retriever had space to lay down without being in the way. Our meals - lite bite, scampi, posh fish burger and children's nuggets were all perfectly cooked, the chips especially. Would recommend.

Very helpful staff made a place for my mobility scooter. The food was served quickly and hot. Best chicken & mushroom pie and chips I've had in a long time. Delicious. Would highly recommend this place.

One of the best gluten free fish and chips I have ever had - very light batter, perfectly cooked fish with great chips and even a slice of gluten free bread and butter! Top notch service and dogs allowed.

Proper fish and chips with bread and butter and a cup of tea! Friendly service, and dog friendly. All just a stone's throw from the harbour. Great!

I collected cod and chips for my family and it really wasn’t good. The cod was really thin and chewy and either the cod or batter had a strange taste. My wife and children wouldn’t even eat theirs! It was just chips for tea for them.

Formerly Pinnacles now The Hook. This is our normal place for a fish tea in Seahouses. A little nervous when we saw it had changed ownership but the quality of the food is very good. Lite byte for me and fish cakes for my wife. Batter is light and crispy, portion size is large. Thoroughly recommended. EDIT…. Were back 2 years later and the quality and speed of service are superb. Theres no need to queue at any other restaurant, The Hook delivers high quality fish teas in rapid fashion. Still our goto restaurant in Seahouses. Thoroughly recommended.

Was really busy and we had to wait a couple of minutes until they had cleared and cleaned a table, did not mind,. I am coeliac and was able to get gluten free jumbo sausage(2) and chips and my husband who does not have a big appetite anymore ordered children's fish and chips. We both had a diet coke which was flat when it arrived, they could not apologise enough and instead of 2 glasses of juice we were given 2 x 500ml bottles. 10/10

We visited Hook for the first time today and are very glad that we did. The staff were all lovely, welcoming and seemed like really good workers. Portion sizes are very generous and prices are reasonable for a seaside location.

Really good, the Fish was excellent, very fresh with a light Batter, my partner is Gluten Free - absolutely no problem with Gluten Free Bread ! Family of 5 everyone was very happy. The service and staff were all excellent, very happy and helpful, would definitely recommend.

Good takeaway, quick, efficient and tasty especially the chips and the scampi loved up to my mum's high standards. Disappointed however they couldn't give me a chip butty, I guess they're not allowed to use the burger buns. Would still be willing to try put the restaurant though.

Spent a little time and visited Seahouses for the first time. Had a walk along the pier, looked into a view shops and had lunch in Hook fish and chips. We sat inside 8 of us all together. We had to sit in two groups of 4 as no tables big enough for us all. Sat down no problems and service was fast. Lovely greeting and food was delivered hot and quick. Not a single one of us were disappointed. All left with full bellys and ready for ice cream. Shout out to Alex our server nothing was too much for him and had a smile on his face from start to finish.

Relatively quick service in takeaway. Fish was cooked nicely. Battered sausage was good, not too oily like some places are. £12.50 for fish and chips and £7.50 for battered sausage and chips.

This was probably the best fish and chips I've had in a while, great value too at £44 for two adults and two kids, the clear plate says it all, and it's dog friendly.

After a really nice meal our plates were cleared by a memeber of staff even though 1 of us was still eating. This put us off because they could have waited until the whole party had finished eating before clearing our plates. The place wasn't overly busy either so this can't be used as an excuse.

Visited with a group of students and they completely looked after us. Food on point and plenty of room to sit and enjoy our meals.

After a poor welcome across the road (“no of course we don’t have vegetarian food we are a fish and chip shop”) we walked over to Hooks and it couldn’t have been more welcoming. Perfect fish and chips. Fish well skinned and filleted and no bones at all. Chips not too greasy. Tables clean,tidy and condiments on hand.

Ordered scampi and chips and was given a massive portion. Totally delicious. The 'light bite' portion my partner had was more than filling enough. Kids ate all there's too. Staff so welcoming and friendly!!
