Frittatas tasted like fish, sent back because i am vegetarian, chips/fries were undercooked, charged full price for meal even though it was inedible. Both me and my wife had only one taste of this meal. Owner outrageously and persistently tried to get me to pay for this meal, i offered to pay for what we had actually eaten as a starter. The owner was just plain rude and would not reduce the bill. I do not pay for food that tastes terrible or is cooked in a dirty pan. Turned into a bit of an argument!! I did not pay. Terrible experience. Better off going to the Coop opposite for a sandwich. Avoid.

Delicious Sunday lunch. I was lucky enough to be there when the guest roast was pork and the apple sauce was made from apples from their own 15 year old tree picked that morning. So good it should win awards.

Lovely welcoming staff and great food. We sat outside in the garden overlooking the river. This should be a wonderful oasis but it is so sadly and shamefully neglected. Hedges and shrubs overgrown and blocking the view. Flower pots not tended with no flowers in just all overgrown with weeds. The paving of the patio area itself is so uneven that it’s a trip hazard and very unsafe. So sad to see this neglect of what should and could be a beautiful outside space with very little effort really.

Called in just after 2pm on a Sunday on the off chance of getting a bite to eat. Was delighted to receive a warm welcome and subsequently a 1st class Chicken roast dinner with all the trimmings. (Parsnip were exceptional). Staff very friendly and the real ale was fresh tasting and served at just the right temperature. I would recommend booking for a table, it’s not a large place, but sure punches above its physical size!

I'm really sorry to post a review like this, but it has to be said, especially with the amount of 5 star reviews. The food wasn't anything special, nor was the ambiance and lighting. As for the food, the prawn cocktail starter was served in a beer glass with half a bottle of cocktail sauce over it, too much in my opinion. The chips served with the main courses were undercooked(fried). The steak and beer battered cod were ok. The desserts were disappointing, old cheese served on a regular diner plate instead of on a wooden board, sticky toffee pudding with no sticky sauce, Cappuccino with a large cup of brown sugar with which you can bake a cake. Depending on your dining preferences, this could be OK for you. To be honest I wouldn't go here if I knew what I know now.

Holidaying in the area and met up with an old friend who lived in Newcastle, the pub was picked for being in the right area and looking good .... however we were really pleased with the choice! The lady who looked after us was lovely, friendly and so helpful and also left us alone when she saw we had got into our stride with the catching up chatting! The food was fantastic - proper home made pies - none of your puff pastry lid nonsense and mine was delicious. I also had a sorbet for pudding as was too stuffed for any of the other choices - that was delicious too. Tried to get in later in the week with the rest of the family but couldn't match with the days they served food which was a shame - would recommend for anyone on holiday in the area. Parking is easy to find on the street (in the evening anyway) and there is a handy coop opposite for milk and bread for the next days walking sandwiches!

Three of us looking for a place in Haydon Bridge after being on Hadrians Wall, hoping somewhere wasn’t fully booked up. This pub has an unpretentious outside, and frosted glazed inner door (I think) which led to a basic bar area. All so far suggesting perhaps a basic food fare - but there was an un-booked place so we were in for a pound ... as the saying goes. But do not judge this book by it’s outer decor. The dining room at the back is in an old barn area that from what I remember once belonged to a butcher, the livestock coming over the water to meet their end. There is space to sit outside and a lovely view of the river through window. Two large candelabra hung from the roof, and perhaps it the general’s coat hanging on the wall (was that a bullet hole?) The General seemed to have protected the servants etc as well as the English families whilst in India so hopefully one of the good guys with a real Christian faith - you can read up on him. Then the food. The venison pie was fantastic, The mash and veg great. I had b&b pudding. Perfect. Sticky toffee and sorbet puddings for others. Brilliant. We hadn’t expected what we got. The house red was good two. 2 course meal £15something, red £16something. So we’d ended up being surprised and we’ll fed and well looked after. Thank you for that meal. Very reasonable. Good chef.

I arrived to a warm welcome and an open fire. A decent selection of sprits and local hand pump beer. Although we didn’t drink they offered a good selection. The menu was small but all dishes sounded amazing. This could be because it was a Sunday I’m unsure. I had the lamb and my partner had the beef. He assured me it was lovely. Great family day out A really good mix of things to entertain children (soap making, crafts, Harry Potter broomstick flying and shows) and adults (state rooms, towers and grounds). The annual season pass makes it a reasonably priced attraction. Good food options for lunch or space for picnics

We stopped by chance at The Percy Arms for a drink and ended up eating an amazing meal-Wednesday afternoon and very quiet but the food was delicious and the service excellent. The soup was very tasty and the steak cooked to perfection - we will return!
