Great food, quick and friendly service

It was my first time to try this kind of takeout restaurant. The service was very friendly and the taste was unexpectedly good. The egg fried rice is salty and tastes exactly like the domestic egg fried rice. The sweet and sour chicken made by this restaurant tastes a bit like the Northeastern Guobao Pork. In short, it goes very well with rice!

This was voted one of the best Chinese takeaways in Hampshire last year so had to give it a go. Unfortunately it wasn't that great and not sure why it won. I always have the crispy king prawns for starter and egg fried rice. The rice lacked flavour and the prawns weren't that great. It was also one of the most expensive ones I've been to. Did not enjoy it overall. Better alternatives available in Shirley (see my other reviews).

Chicken balls were a little sloppy in the batter, the Satay Chicken skewers, the sauce was really nice, but there was a couple of bits of chicken that were so dry it was inedible. Also some of the prawn Crackers had a subtle flavour, but there was also quite a few that were overcooked and started to turn brown.

Always amazing service and the best Chinese I've ever had. Have been going here since childhood as a family. Despite moving out of Shirley we all still drive there to get this Chinese. Highly recommended!

Worst sweet & sour chicken Hong-Kong style I've ever had. Chicken was inedible. Boiled rice was ok but expensive. How the takeaway has been recommended as one if the best in the South I dont know. Will not be returning.

How can you burn a chicken chow mein !!! Bloody awful

New to the area as we have just moved in. 3 takeaways and all superb. 2 years on and still using it weekly. The guy who said the prices have changed from what is stated on the internet needs to get a recent menu! They don't have a website and any images of the menu are from people who have uploaded them. Just seen he has posted on TripAdvisor. Get a life and give local businesses a break.👍

Hong Kong house might not look like the fanciest Take-away but it is run by a lovely family serving the best Chinese and English food, prepared there right in front of you - telephone orders and cash only (? so what). Ignore negative comments. Can't rate it higher - long may they prosper.

Arrived to pick up my order and was told it was £35 not £29 as advertised online.

Ordered by phone and when I get there the price has gone up by £6. Thet denied it had changed even after I showed them the menu I'd read my order out to them on the phone. Suffice to say I would NEVER go back.

Always super flavoursome, smokey and morish. Never any leftovers. Their crispy salted bean curd is to die for - haven't found "crispy" bean curd that good or even "crispy" elsewhere! Edit: I'm informed by Google my photograph of the beautiful beancurd has been viewed 1,000,000 times over the last 3 years. It is still the dish I would ask for as my last meal. It was my pregnancy craving, I would have it for my birthday or any celebration, I've even joked if I ever got married I would need it served at my wedding. I cannot recommend it enough. Alongside vegetable noodles, egg fried rice and curry sauce, you are in stodgy heaven. The owners of this shop are also lovely, warm people and they always ask about the family. Please, please, try the chilli salted beancurd.

Best Kung Po you'll ever eat..... Also have one of their legendary Pancake rolls, almost a meal in itself! Been using this place for nearly 30 years now, always swing by whenever I'm in town just for the kung-po alone!

Wow well done for not using plastic containers, I choose the deep fried pork loin in garlic salty, and fried rice it was good I thought it would be bad as I wanted sweet sour pork but they didn't have any. This was good had a nice garlic salt flavour and the pork was chewy but still good though.

Been going here for a couple of years. HK prawn sweet & sour is the best around! The service is nice and the space is clean. Slightly more expensive than most places but you get what you pay for there. Highly recommend.

Service was super quick and everything cooked fresh while u wait.. had a yummy pork curry with fried rice and some chicken balls with sweet and sour sauce..

I love all their food! They are friendly too very simple family run business and the kitchen is clean too. My faves are chicken fried rice, chow-mien, chicken balls and the big veg spring roll :) i love the smokey taste and smell of it very different from other take aways

We ordered fried squid in spicy salt and fried chilli beef, both were absolutely delicious!

Love Hong Kong House. Always friendly in there and remembers I don't like vinegar on my chips. Great value for money for both fish and chips and Chinese.

Been using these guys for years, always consistent quality, cooked in front of you, genuine HongKong style food the noodles and rice are cooked with a great wok flavour not just the steamed rice often served, this is much more like the street food HongKong has to offer. Well worth a try if you want authentic chinese food.

After opening my order both the rice's I ordered were burnt and tasteless, chicken in satay sauce wasn't what I thought it was and the curry sauce was runny and tasteless, and prawn crackers tasteless. Can say I won't be going back there.

Love this take away. All the food is cooked in front of you and no one else makes pancake rolls quite like theirs.

Just got home with my order and the egg fried rice is burnt and taste like they have used old oil on everything! I won't be going back there again, I had high hopes what a let down!!!!

Consistently perfect food. The family who run it are lovely. I’ve moved further away and don’t visit so often it’s the one thing I miss about my old house. Usual for a Chinese to offer burgers and such but they do them better than the local chippy or kebab.

Have used this take away from day one. Wonderful people and the food is fantastic. I’ve eaten Chinese food around the world!! And this is, if not, the best food I have ever eaten anywhere!!! Kung po chicken is my very favourite, but to be fair all is brilliant.

We moved into the area 25 years ago and a and out from this venue was the first meal in our house. We have continued to come to the same place all that time. The food and service is excellent. Have tried some other places but it never measures up to the quality and taste of the food from Hong Kong House.

Amazing chef, nice family run business, they've been there many, many years. My favourite dish is braised beef with chilli and black bean sauce! I've tried many of their dishes over the years and very rarely disappointed. The portion sizes have shrunk at some point but it's not enough to put me off ordering from there.

OMG - I cannot believe this place was round the corner from me all this time. I didn't expect anything good but I felt like special fried rice and got the house special. IM BLOWN AWAY BY THR QUALITY AND PRICE, the meat was fantastic and all for 6 quid. The good thing is it wasn't salty and full of soy like the other places it was spot on tasty food all thanks to the chef!! He looked busy! Defo coming here again seeing as I'm Asian and reluctant to order from takeaways 10/10

had to leave 1 star to leave a review otherwise I wouldn't of tbh , the chippy side we ordered was ok until i opened the chow mein,absolutley disgusting, beef was burnt ,asked for extra onions ,none in there at all, food was completely burnt,not the first time though but sadly gave it the benefit of my doubt,avoid if you like Chinese food as will put you off.

I highly recommend this takeaway restaurant. We have been buying food from here for a number of years. I would recommend the Chili Black Bean Tofu, the Garlic Fried Rice with egg, Amoy Rice Noodles and Pineapple Fritters.

Well cooked, authentic flavours, great quality and value for money. Recommend this takeaway to all.

I don’t just come here for the Chinese food I also love the good old English food they do as well like the big old hot dog it usually hits the spot

This is our local Chinese and it is the best we have ever had anywhere else. It is closed on Mondays so we tried elsewhere. Will never bother again it was dreadful. Everything is cooked in front of you, to order. They have a 5 star hygiene rating and are friendly. Thoroughly recommend.

Love the spicy salt squid or king prawns, lovely duck in pancakes, the couple who run this place are happy and friendly and deserve their success

The special chow mein and the pancake rolls and the prawn crackers with a bottle of coke has been eaten!!! Many weekends!!! The mushroom curry is also steamy nice!!! King prawn balls are amazing!!! The fish and chips aren't too rough when adding bread and butter and sauces back at home!!! Try and behave more though as the chef out back kitchen and wife on front till are definitely foreign still and push your luck and it could feel very racist!!! Strictly weekend grub or don't go!!! (Does have a small queue building up normally of local people living near!!! So if you're not prepared to wait for half an hour it could be!!! Then it's not for you!!!)

Don't get the Chinese dishes, just get chips.

Never had a bad meal from Hong Kong House in the 25+ years I have been using it. Lovely, friendly staff too. The curry is different from other places that all taste the same.

When people say this place is good , I have no idea how . Most people I know say don't go there as there just awful . So anyhow , last night i ordered crispy chilli beef and a few other dishes ( not all for me ) and when I got home and opened it 😷😷 It looked like someone had poured TAR over my dish and it had set like a building brick . I genuinely haven't seen anything like it ! It was actually laughable . Proceeding to eat the TAR beef it must of had the most unbelievable amount of rock salt in it ! I woke up 3 times in night with my whole mouth feeling like someone had stolen all my saliva ! Unreal .

From the outside this takeaway looks in need of a lot of tender loving care, when inside the staff are very friendly and polite. You can watch the chef prepare your meal, and the food is some of the best Chinese takeaway I have tasted. One downside is no card payments cash only.

I have used this place for years now, I have tried many of the Chinese meals and I have never had a bad one, telephone orders are good as I just live around the corner and it's always ready when I get there. My mate and me often go here when we come home from the pub, pancakes rolls superb!! Fish & chips are good too.

I've tried a few of the dishes at this takeaway-only chinese that also does fish and chips, but nothing beats the chow mein. Perfectly balanced flavours, decent amounts of meat and veg and most importantly noodles with a little bit of bite left in them - so many places overdo the noodles ending up with a stodgy dish. Add a little Sriracha sauce, and it's amazing.

The hot & sour soup, special fried rise and singapore noodles...a huge let down, I hope my stomach will survive the evening.. suspect they use the over-fried deep frier oil on everything.. yuk.
