Hong Kong City in Gloucester

Ok but not exciting. Food quality was ok but could easily be better. Irritatingly cash only.

We've moved to a new area and this was the closest Chinese, can safely say we won't be going any where else , it is banging , the service on the phone it lovely and the food is lush.

First time ordering from here food is delicious and good portion sizes. Chips were nice and chicken curry. Only couple things which aren’t great they don’t put a bag of prawn crackers on the order foc that other Chinese takeaways do. And also they only take cash which is really disappointing everyone uses card these days. It’s put me off ordering from here again which is a shame.

Has been our usual Chinese takeaway, however this evening we placed our order at the counter (only 3 items) and waited whilst numerous other people both placed their order, got served and received their food before we got ours. Had to say something in the end and and was told "it's OK, it's cos I know you!" That's absolutely not acceptable.

Takeaway was excellent, food was very freshly prepared (piping hot) reasonable price - very busy place which shows how good it is. Definitely recommended!

Super friendly and amazing food every time

Our local Chinese and the only one we ever go too, always ring up and order without any issues, they know my name by what I guess is my number so always get that little personal touch when they say thanks by my name on the phone, the food is never longer than 15-20 minutes until it's ready and always tastes great. Our go to is usually the sweet and sour chicken which is chicken balls with a tub of sweet and sour sauce, the smoked shredded chicken and maybe a chow mein plus a spring roll which never fails to disappoint.

Good take away. Very good I had sweet and sour chicken balls with house special fried rice delicious.

Ordered a special chow mein rang and asked what was in it was told soy sauce bbq sauce chicken and pork when it had prawns in also very runny

Really nice if it gets to you hot. They often don’t have a delivery driver and once ran out of chips. Yes really ran out of chips wtaf. The chips are really nice though so……

Telephone service good but that's it. I would have put no stars otherwise, if i could. Unfortunately tonight was the worst Chinese food we have ever had. The meat spring rolls looked over cooked and first impressions the chicken chowmain darker then normal as well. We were looking forward to our takeaway. We both started eating and found the food really greasy. The sweet and sour chicken was really chewy and overcooked. The chips were ok but thats it. As it was late we have not managed to complain yet but this is our last visit im afraid. We have been put off having another takeaway from here and I really hope we are not unwell tonight!

If you don’t do delivery, you should put a cross on the delivery info. It is showing wrong information to the customers.

Poor service, food terribly salty, they don't accept credit/ debit cards... I wonder why? The guy at the counter tried to overcharge me... I have asked for half portion of Sweet and Sour Chicken... which is £5.70 and the guy asked me to pay £4.10 instead of £2.85 ( please see the pictures )... when asked why he bluntly replied that this is how they charge... Definitely a no go...

Good food, great flavours, good size portions and value for money.

Food is nice but you struggle to phone an order through as you have a constant engaged tone and 9/10 when you do get through the phone is picked up and hung up. There is no delivery option available and when you arrive its cash only; with no local cash machines requiring a detour. Still you get to socialise with the group of people awaiting orders!!

Incredible Chinese takeaway. Moved to Gloucester only yesterday and this was our first meal in the town. This will 100% become our regular Chinese.

Very disappointed 😞. This place is usually OK when I order my regular dish of crispy chilli beef. However as it was new years eve I thought I would treat the kids to a set meal. A set meal for 4 which costed 44 pound. On inspection when I got home the majority of the set meal dishes were incorrect.. No chow mein, 2 dishes exactly the same.. only difference one was chicken and the other was prawn, and the most blandest beef dish I have ever tasted a dish that wasn't on the set menu. Beef cashew nuts.. What would happen if I was allergic to nuts. I would have phoned to complain however the phone is always enganged. This has happened on previous occasions also. I do not think they can handle the amount of orders coming through on busy nights. On less busy occasions the food is ok, however tonight the food was disgusting. Please hire more staff to avoid errors in future.

Have been going here for years. It is the best Chinese takeaway in Gloucester/Cheltenham and it’s my favourite. I admit that I haven’t tried every takeaway in the area but enough to know this ones at/near the top.

Spent £25 at this place, food not great at all! Spring Roll had a disgusting taste (old) beef was well below standard compared to other takeaways I have visited. Never go to Hong Kong City again!!!!

The only Chinese I will use. Never had a bad dish. Best sweet and sour sauce ever (not glow in the dark orange) Happy to drive, order and wait rather than have delivered from elsewhere.

Come here every Friday for my beef curry without fail. The food here is very good quality & I'd recommend to anyone this takeaway. It has a big menu to choose from. It has wheelchair access & good off street parking. I would recommend to ring ahead. It is cash only.

Used to eat here every week but after repeated problems with poorly cooked food and a bad attitude from staff when complaining I have completely given up hope on Hong Kong - there might not be many good Chinese choices in Gloucester but that is no reason to stoop this low

Excellent food have used this takeaway for years and is as good as ever. Gets very busy so best telephone ahead. They do not take card payments.

Firstly they don't take card payments, in this day and age! I could understand it for £10 but when you're paying £40 to have to go and find a cash machine is annoying. The food was passable . The spare rib starters were tasty. The main course not so good. My duck in plum sauce was tepid despite being wrapped in a fleece on the way home. The duck pieces had greasy skin still attached. Nothing special about it. My wife's chicken with spring onions tasted of nothing but spring onions, no other flavour was apparently and it completely overwhelmed the dish. Not recommended.

Best Chinese in Gloucester by far!

After being turned off at two Chinese restaurants and having no other choice or patience to chase another I went for the takeaway! Mixed feelings about the food, soup was tasty and also the crispy duck, no complain there! Now the beef was a big hard and the prawn noodles I haven't even touched it, a hair on top of the food wasn't very charming! The staff were really nice and helpful, top marks for them!

Food is always good and the service is great even when they get really busy. The guy gets to know his customers, to the point where he doesn’t even need to ask my name when I order over the phone. Would be 5 star if they accepted card payments.

The food is amazing.avoid Tuesday's as the front of house person can be very short and rude as opposed to the normal person rest of the week who is charming and polite always

Another quality meal from our favourite Chinese in Gloucester. Never had a bad meal and keep on returning. Time for the next one. Love the chilli beef and the chicken in black bean sauce and the chow mein never disappoints. Keep up the good work.

Just bought a shredded beef chilli garlic dish this is the worst Chinese dish I've ever had. Bland and I can't taste the beef just batter only.

Did not enjoy the meal, can not fault the take away for cleanliness. Had chicken curry and yung chow fried rice and it was just bland. Very little flavor in the curry, the onions where too sweet for it and the mushrooms had so much moisture in them it was like they where from a can, did not enjoy the feeling of moisture popping in my mouth when eating them. The chicken was not like "real" chicken, just something pumped full of water - the gelatinous chicken - that seems to to have become popular with so many places. The rice was okay. Overall not worth it.
