Hong Kong Chef in North Devon

Just finished my last ever takeaway from the Hong Kong Chef as its Sam and Pauline's last day today after serving great Chinese fare for the last 41 years in Braunton. Wishing you both all the very best for a long and happy retirement and safe travels wherever you go. Best Yeung Chow fried rice since Singapore! Take care, we'll miss you!

We only went once on holiday in Ssunton Sands but food was good and looked fairly busy either the locals. Can park in mobility opposite out of hours.

Regular here really good food always and helpful friendly staff, you won't be disappointed

Delicious takeaway. You should accept card tho, not only cash.

Food is substandard, chef is rude to customers when complaints are made, maggot found in the rice. Someone else has just posted the exact same experience on the local FB group so it is not just my opinion, it's fact!

Had a takeaway last week on two occasions. The first one was nice which prompted us to have another. The second one was awful, in freshness and taste. After trying all what we had bought it all ended up in the bin. Felt I had wasted £27 and will not be returning 😝

Excellent food and great service. Even gave me some apples from own garden.

I had read the bad reviews and decided to ignore them. I sadly have to say they were true. Ribs burnt and too dry to eat. The rest had to be chucked also. This restaurant needs focus on good ingredients and good cooking which, is obviously lacking at the moment.

Food has always been decent, tasty and hot. Not 5 star dining, but their prices reflect this. Overall a good Chinese.

1st time using this Chinese takeaway and unfortunately the food was not great, probably the worst I've had. But we only had one main dish and rice, therefore I can't comment on the range of quality, but couldn't eat the dish ordered. It's cash only just so you know, hopefully you'll have a better experience.

Very poor and over priced. The sauce was the same on all the dishes, it was a very vinegary and watery. The 'crispy' beef was not! In the mixed starter there was one piece of very oily prawn toast each, the one rib each was about 3cm long and very dry. I could go on .... Suffice today, I will not be ordering from there again.

On holiday ordered from here on Thursday absolutely beautifully cooked, Fresh, Hot and delicious food. Friendly staff when ordering wish we lived nearer.

Gone downhill. Sweet and sour sauce runny and tasteless. My husband is allergic to prawns and as his beef dish was cooked in the same pan as my prawn dish he had a reaction which made him really ill. They couldn't of washed the pan between dishes just be warned if you have allergies!

Visited twice whilst on holiday. Had dishes from across the range; beef, chicken, king prawn, rice, egg foo yung and chow mein. All really tasty. Good service. Be prepared though, cash only.

food is quite inconsistent every time i get food i don’t know what to expect however the staff are always happy to help with any problems.

Spent £30 on different dishes , below average food , sweet and sour sauce you could of put on your chips it was so vinegary. Beef was chewy in the curry . Best thing was the pancake roll . Wouldn’t use again.

Quick, polite, reasonably priced and good food

My partner and I visit regular lovely food great service. Have tried most food on the menu my partner always has seafood and always tasty.

Ordered a meal for 2 from the menu and the dishes were nice after a long drive to our BnB stay. It's a small family run business and the staff were friendly. They only take cash so had to go to the ATM up the road but otherwise we recommend :)

Ordered special chow mein, tasteless, hardly any sauce. Also ordered rice dish with bbq sauce it was dry as Gandhi's flip flop

All very stodgy! It didn’t matter which dish we had, they were all the same, soggy and stodgy. We love Chinese food but I’m afraid most ended up in the bin.

Terrible food. Tasteless and poor quality. Three tiny shrimps in the chow mein speciial and some unappetising lumps of chicken and pork. Tragic prawn crackers. Greasy seaweed. Grumpy unfriendly staff. Should have known by that and left before ordering. Never again. Presume they survive on tourists who don’t have much choice.

Horrible , tasteless ,spring rolls 90% batter soggy, chips rank , never again and will tell my mates to stay away , should learn how to cook .micro food better.

Waited to be served for a good 5 mins plus, the phone rang and when the woman picked it up she diddent let the person talk and said no phone orders and hung up, then the phone rang again and she just lifted it and left it off the line. When I eventually got asked if I was ok I started bakeing my order and she replied with sorry no more orders as all these people are waiting.... bad customer service and very rude

Always excellent service and great food, wouldn't go anywhere else.

Friendly family run takeaway with great service. I can only comment on the vegi dishes which are always lovely and portions always enough for two. Excellent all round.

The food was on time as I ordered it for Collection which was great however I’m glad I asked on the phone if I could pay card as this take away only take cash! When eating Chinese we often hear people complain it’s to salty but In fact it was the opposite with the meal I had. It was very under seasoned in my opinion. Finally both the ribs and wings we had in this meal seemed very tough and stringy, seemingly over cooked.
