Heard good things about this place so thought I’d try it. Think it’s been hyped up a bit - the food wasn’t that great at all - not a lot of it for the price.

First start with the positives: Attentive service despite being a busy Saturday lunchtime. Attentive to dietary needs (one of the party has) lactose intolerance. One of our party ordered a glass of house white wine which was horrible and when we told our waiter he gave her a taste of the next white wine on the menu to check she liked that before ordering. The red wine was lovely Not so positive: Food wasn’t great, all a bit too greasy and salty for our tastes. They cook with ghee and the refried beans tasted more like an Indian dish. Felt like the flavours needed to be fresher to cut through the oil.

Went to homies on donkeys january 13th for dinner with the wife. Both enjoyed the awesome mexican sida jarritos. Service was casual but pretty efficient. It was busy, and I would say food service was a little slow, but considering how many tables were seated this was expected. I like the staggered approach to bringing out different tacos in intervals ss it gave us time to enjoy each one. The food was good, particularly the birra taco was great. Overall a nice experience, ill go back again.

I am really surprised at some of the reviews on here, this place is one of my favourites! They are always busy so yes, sometimes you do have to wait a little while for service but it has never been a big issue at all. It's absolutely the place you would come with a date or group of friends where you can chat and enjoy the expeirence as a whole. The food is made fresh so it does come out in stages as and when it's ready so you get it hot like an authentic mexican, this isnt a TexMex, it's the real deal! The vibe is good, the playlist is brilliant, you can see your food being made and the decor is so unique.. not sure what else you are after... Every time we have been here theres been plenty of choice on the menu - something for everyone. The refried bean dip is a personal fav, it is amazing! There's always specials to choose from also and the staff have only ever been polite and patient with great guidance, they know the menu they can give you recommendations based on your pallet - I struggle with very spicey things and my partner really enjoys them, the staff have always been able to navigate that and recommend dishes that we would both enjoy and they've not failed to suceed even once! The sea bass special was amazing, we are so sad it's not a permenant item on the menu. It is dear but you would pay the same amount for a good meal most places in London and you wouldn't get the same freshness, personality or attention to detail you get here. It might seem like less food as it looks small but make no mistake, these dishes are filling! I always leave stuffed The negative I would say is the toilets do need more attention. They are messy and on the boarder of being a bit dirty. A proper toilet paper dispenser would go a long way as the rolls always seem to be unravelled and all over the floor. All in all, it's a great place and we will revisit frequently. I think if you're after a quiet traditional swift meal, it might not be the place for you but if you want something new and different with an atmosphere and you have the time to sit back enjoy yourself, chat with food and take it in as an expeirence rather than another meal - you'd do well to come here!

This place is unreal. Put it this way, I'd eaten tacos before, but having now eaten them at Homies On Donkeys I'm now questioning if what I had before were actually tacos - because the tacos here are a completely different level to anything I've had before. You can tell the care and attention, not to mention passion put into every element of the food here - every mouthful is bursting with flavour. Personal highlights are the refried beans. I don't know what the chef puts into them, but they are elite - I need the recipe! The roasted broccoli and the pork tacos are amazing - just so much flavour. The sweet potato one is awesome too and don't even start me on the bone marrow special...insane! Drinks are great too - I could drink the margaritas all night long (as long as someone can carry me home?). Service was top notch - very attentive and friendly and chatty and the restaurant itself is so friendly and welcoming with the dope graffiti on the walls. All topped off with a soundtrack of classic 90s hip hop - eating amazing food to the sounds of Brand Nubian, Nas, Main Source and A Tribe Called Quest - what is better than that? Salute the Homies 10/10

We had heard great things about this restaurant and were pleased that it had come to Leytonstone. However, we did not have a great experience. From the lack of greeting on arrival, to the lack of a menu while we waited and then the 30 minute wait for food that didn’t ever come, we gave up in the end and left.

The vibe was well off key we were sat in a draughty booth by the toilet and honestly I’ve had more atmosphere in a shopping centre cafe. The tacos were bland and extremely overpriced. We walked away nursing a huge dent to the wallet for an experience that would cost 2 bucks a time anywhere in the states

The pork and chicken tacos were almost indistinguishable in taste and presentation. Both could have a bit more depth in seasoning. Steak tacos tasty and spicy. Just need to slightly tone down the salt. I'm aware this is their first sit down restaurant so looking forward to visiting again and hopefully give them an improved review. But they really need to improve the pork and chicken tacos.

I’ve eaten at Homies many times and everything there is good. I’m biased because chef Smokey plays a mean Hip Hop set when he’s not on the pans of steel and that’s my thing. Come to Wood St, grab some taco’s, pint at the Duke, go to Ravenswood for more beer and art, then to Blackhorse beer mile…for even more beers. It’s a whole day out, right kids?

This place is just fantastic. Basically a hole in the wall within Wood Street Market. Their tacos are packed with flavour and heat. Just delicious

Small but perfectly formed menu in a restaurant which could be described as the same. Five bar stools inside, more seating outside. Clearly exceedingly popular with clientele savvy enough to know about this place. Chicken tacos were stunning, and I will remember the beef tacos (on special that day) forever as they best Mexican food I have eaten so far outside of Mexico. If you’re considering going here for lunch, delay no longer. Just be prepared to get take away, or arrive early for a seat.

Excellent, tasty food served by nice people in a friendly setting. It's only small, room for eight or so sitting, but you could perfectly easily eat these standing up if you had enough napkins. The menu's short and sweet, they know what they do and they do it really well. The shredded pork one, in particular, is delicious. I'm making this a regular stop on my culinary circuit.

Fantastic tacos in this hidden gem. I go and get tacos for lunch and kids go crazy if I go there without them. One other good thing about it is the service with a smile ..always! A must try!

Recommended by son who is living in Walthamstow. This tiny restaurant in Wood St market is packed full of ethnic character with the sole chef/waiter adding to the experience. But the real stars are the small freshly prepared tacos. Lots of varieties at very reasonable prices. I will definitely go again soon.

The food is delicious and consistent. It's very difficult to find genuine Mexican food in London. Smokey's menu is small but contains everything you need and there are often specials at the weekend e.g. Tuna, salmon, octopus. Lovely people who always make you feel welcome.

A cozy spot with a warm ambiance, perfect for relaxing or getting some work done. The Mocha was rich and smooth, and the homemade crisps was delicious. Friendly staff and quick service made the experience even better. Highly recommend for a chill hangout! HMC verified As well. ✅️

Came here on our way to a party and sadly wasn't impressed. Maki rolls online were £3 and website said £5 but in the restaurant were £7 - I've never seen maki this expensive! Didnt have any sushi due to price. I had the vegetable fried noodles which tasted vinegary (bottled sauce) and 3 bits of broccoli. Pretty basic. My friend had spicey chicken rice which was nice. Wouldn't recommend.

We went for a midweek dinner (didn't stay in the hotel as we live locally). Its probably 15 years since I last visited the Hitchcock, and it wasn't very busy. The menu is short but the food was both very good and good value (recommend the chicken schnitzel in particular). The usual range of drinks were at the bar, and we stuck to beer. The service was very good, and the restaurant manager, Josh, has a good way of building rapport with customers
