Appalled to find most of the staff not wearing face masks, only one female member of staff was exempt.Considering the infection rate is rising , particularly in the north west I find this extremely worrying.

I usually love visiting Holmes milll but I was really disappointed to see the lack of Covid measures in place at Holmes mill. Not one member of staff indoors in the food hall and shop area wearing a mask. There’s didn’t seem to be any attempt to manage social distancing or large groups in the outdoor area wandering about between tables and blatantly not a group of 6 or 2 households. I’m afraid I won’t be visiting again.

Booked a table outdoors after 2nd lockdown. Didnt even know this place existed and we only live in Burnley!! Brilliant venue for weddings. Accommodation attached too. Quite a long wait as newly opened but was a lovely afternoon, and our first outing since lockdown so not complaining. My veggie platter was more than ample and the cheese pie looked and tasted delicious. Would definitely return and recommend.

They are complicit in the parking management running a scam. You will have fines issued you know nothing about which are not valid. They will have a CCJ granted you know nothing about as they can give the court any adress and when you don't respond tin 14 days they win, the court does not check that adress. You then have 30 days to pay them £260 or you lose your home when you get a remortgage as your credit file is ruined. The cost to file a N244 to see a judge and win as you have a valid case is £255 plus all of your other expenses, in the mean time your credit rating is ruined and you have months to a year before you see anyone. The property the parking management and gladstones solicitors will not speak or help in anyway as they know you do not owe the money. They hope you pay thier con to save hassle as we did.Getting this dropped on us while our newborn was in hospital i swallowed my pride to contest and win and paid this to save stress on my wife. If you contest they wont send anyone to court and you will win, they lose nothing and make all the money from the people like us pressured into paying. My wife has worked as a nurse for 20 years has a perfect credit rating not missing a single payment and they pray on her while in intensive care with our newborn. Make up your own minds.

As a post lockdown treat for my 2 daughters, I booked a table for 6pm in the beer hall on November 4th. Our table wasn't ready so we sat for 5 minutes deciding on our meals and were shown to our table at around 6.15pm. They took a drinks order really quickly and after about 10 minutes it arrived. Our food order wasn't taken for a further 30 minutes when I managed to get the attention of a passing waiter. Forty five minutes later and no sign of any food or the ability to order any drinks I asked the woman who was front of house why our food still hadn't arrived. She basically couldn't have been more disinterested and raised her hands and said she'd try to find out where our food was, but it was busy so she couldn't promise anything, then continued to admit more people into the restaurant in single sex groups of young men and women. These groups were then mixing and socialising whilst drinking and definitely not eating a substantial meal.... 2 hours after arrival, I spoke to the manager who said he was sorry but they'd had a meltdown due to demand and he was struggling to get people's orders out. I asked him why they weren't adhering to Covid regulations with single sex social groups and people sat at the bar and he just shrugged. We left, 2 hours later having had 1 drink each, no food and a dismissive and uninterested response from the dark haired front of house woman. Our 13 year old was starving and I was left never wishing to frequent the place ever again. Tonight they compromised quality over quantity and breached covid rules and they really didn't care or try to hide the fact. Avoid like the plague, for it must be rife in there....

Not Covid safe. Staff wondering around the food hall without masks. Some were diligently masked so I assume the ones that were not had seniority or were owners - so must be safe ;-) Bar area serving fake food with ‘free beers’ to unmasked groups of men should are clearly not from the same households.

After visiting a couple of weeks ago and being pleased with food and service visited again today. What a change, had to wait 15 minutes for our table to be sanitized, then another 10 minutes to be given a menu then after ordering a full 40 minutes for food to be delivered . When I asked about the delay a very rude waitress advised because we are short staff, no apologies, eventually or drinks arrived 10 minutes later.

I have visited the Beer hall on numerous occasions since it opened and generally it is very good, with attentive staff and good service. Today visited with my wife for a drink only who has a foot boot on, got showed in quickly, to a stool at the bar. Not ideal with a broken ankle to dangle it off a stool! We completed a COVID contact card and waited for a member of staff to take our order.....10+ minutes later and a head count of 8 staff members later and we left. No one spoke to us apologised or even batted an eye lid. Very poor

Was busy with drinkers early evening /late afternoon which i was surprised at as there was (although signs up) no evidence of controlling social distancing or face masks worn amongst customers and staff didn't seem to interested in controlling it. It did make us think twice about leaving but we found a quiet area to sit. Drinks were great and the Bowland Real has to be tasted - i went for the pheasent plucker which is brewed on site. Wife opted for g&t again well presented with complimenting garnishes. There was a good atmosphere but in these times we just felt a tad uneasy but will return again

This place is part of an old mill complex with lots of outdoor seating and bars. It was pretty busy, mainly with younger people who didn't seem to have heard of social distancing. Groups of men in their 20s joshing around and some serious drinking being done. Food was pretty ordinary and unappealing to us. Stopped by for coffee next morning and it was deserted, coffee and pastries were good, quite quiet but this was early on a Sunday. Not sure what it was like later.

We were greeted with warm smiles and very helpful staff. We hadn't booked (uh ooooh) but we were accommodated quickly for drinks only. Service on the bar was excellent and they had table service which I soon realised and took advantage of. Beers were very good and great to see them being brewed on site. There were other more continental beers too but I'd stick local, you wont be disappointed. After 3 drinks we changed our mind and asked if we could eat and move table and again we were accommodated without any hassle or fuss.We decided to go for 3 small plates between us and it was plenty. Good honest pub grub, decent quality and again service was brilliant. We left very happy and certainly wishing we could return soon, and we will!

As a family we have been regular visitors to Holmes Mill and the other establishments in the group over a number of years, but we are now "ex customers"Two recent experiences have convinced us that we will never again visit any venues in the James places stable - Holmes Mill, the Bistro, Emporium, Mitton Hall or the Shireburn Arms, all of which we have patronised and enjoyed over the years. At a recent booking to the Mill we were kept waiting for our booked table, only to find when we were eventually able to order that there was to be an hours wait. The food is glorified fast food - our booking was for 7.30 - we would have been eating around 9pm so explained that we felt this was unreasonable (for a 7.30 booking) and left. Two weeks ago a 40 minute visit resulted in a £100 parking charge - unfortunately we missed the signs , (it was pitch dark at the time and the arrangements had recently changed) - the parking was free anyway for 2 hours, so not as though we had neglected to pay, just overlooked putting our registration into the machine, but we nevertheless received a letter with a demand for £100. We had believed James places to be a good company, but we were clearly wrong and we and our family will never again visit any of their establishments.

Waitress saw my meal had hardly been touched when taking away. No comment & attempted to move friend's plate whilst still eating ! My companions both left more than half their meal.Beautifully & expensively designed new individual packets, to prevent spread of virus. One very cheap, very thin, budget, useless napkin inside. Will never go again. We booked a further restaurant next week, owned by James's Places and as a result of this, have now cancelled.

Car parking changes not adequately communicated. £100 fine for 37 minute visit. Whilst Holmes Mill may not be managers of the car park they could, and should, have told CUSTOMERS of the new requirements to register the vehicle in order to receive the 2 hour free parking - no attempt made by Holmes Mill staff or management! The irony is the wedding party which were due to stay (despite only living in Whalley) will no longer be doing so, and will be seeking full refund, the regular cycling party gatherings are being switched to the Aspinall Arms, meats and pies will now be bought directly from Porter's at Chatburn, gin from online clubs, Vue cinemas all the way from now on etc etc..Support local business following the COVID crisis they said! Holmes Mill is a lovely place, it's such a shame they seem to be so understaffed and the service is unbelievably slow. We, like a lot of others, were caught out by the extortionate parking fine (£100 reduced to £60 if paid quickly) as we didn't realise you had to enter your reg into their machine to qualify for the 2 hours free parking. They were unwilling to do anything about it despite us being able to produce a receipt. I cannot understand why a destination venue such as Homes Mill would use a third party parking enforcement company who have total desregard for their customers especially as there are so many great alternatives locally.

I come here a lot, I enjoy the atmosphere although the last 4 times I visited I was served frozen potato bobbins , sour meat in a pie, dry chicken and the full order wrong! Waited a long time for the food to come to for the staff to just apologise and make me pay for it. As for the parking charge, it is ridiculous and has put me, my friends and family from going. No where in big lettters on that car park does it say 2 hours free WITH A TICKET. I was there 28 minutes and now being charged £100. Before lockdown it was 3 hours free with no ticket, so how they just charge people randomly not making anyone aware. I’m so angry that they are trying to make money out of people that are going through a pandemic it infuriates me. The mill refuse to deal with this and trying to get through to the company for the charge is not even worth the hassle, all recorded messages. The amount of money I put into that place and they’re charging me £100 to sit outside for 28 minutes. We have just come out a pandemic, jobless for 5 month, but this place has the audacity to charge people a ridiculous amount of money to spend money in the bar. We have just started coming to this unique venue and really want to love it for certain reasons I won’t mention.Firstly we are fully aware of the parking issues there so made sure we definitely got a ticket for the two free hours!! We quickly popped into the farm shop.... lovely lovely shop and items are reasonably priced. What I didn’t like was that the arrows for the ‘one way system’ were hard to follow. I’ve not been to the shop before.... so I went back to the front to pay for the items and the lady remarked that it’s actually one way.... even though so many people were doing it (suggesting it’s not clear). So I asked which way it was and asked if I had to walk through the cafe bit? I had previously been to the end of the shop but thought surely I don’t cut through lots of people eating and drinking.... hence why I went back to the front of the store. So, after I asked this, she said yes..... the shop was quite busy and here I am with partner and child traipsing through the cafe where people are sitting obviously unmasked eating and drinking. This just felt rude.... so yer whilst I know that we have to adapt to a new way of living at the moment.... maybe help make it a little clearer or at least have some staff on the shop floor to advise/help/direct a little more.... people are confused and trying their best and just don’t need to be snarled at :( So moving on to the beer hall food....so out of the three meals the chicken wings were great... everything else ... average at best. Nothing special at all.... the setting is great but the food was so average. Our main reason for visit was the churros (sad I know but not many places do them). On Instagram they look AMAZING!!! In reality they are not..... they were served in a tin plate, no cinnamon sugar on and no pot of chocolate sauce (like the pic) but actually just some squeezed stripes of sauce. Presentation was awful- and didn’t include what it stated. They also tasted like onion rings so probably cooked in the same batter. £70 bill...... very very average meal :( I have to say the food looked so much nice from the cafe part!!! Sorry for the bad review but for me, it just wasn’t worth it.... the advertising pictures don’t reflect what you get.... and I think this is deceiving.

Having had a lovely day out with friends walking, we decided to call in at Holmes Mill for tea. BIG MISTAKE!!The signage for car parking says 2 hours free. We had our meal and had left the car park in under two hours, even setting an alarm on our phone to remind us to leave within the timescale. All 3 cars have now been issued with a £60 fine each totalling £180..... very expensive tea out don’t you think. Apparently the rules have recently changed with very small writing on the signage. It states 2 hours free parking in large letters but the small print says you are required to enter your registration number and obtain a ticket. Having made an appeal we have been told it still stands so £180 for three cars.... how much money are the making on a daily basis. The owners of Holmes Mill say it’s nothing to do with them it’s a private company. This is not acceptable and I am guessing they are making an absolute fortune out of their spending customers. We booked a table for 2 for lunch in the restaurant online for last Wednesday. There were a few people eating, but all the tables were spread out so you were not close to the other tables. The food I believe is all locally sourced and our meal was very tasty and there was plenty of it. There is a large bar area, ice cream and food shop selling locally sourced food and drink. Holmes Mill was recently featured on 'Ricky and Ralf's very Northern Road Trip and it is easy to see why. The staff were all very friendly, there were arrows everywhere so you walked one way and kept to social distancing. There are lots of tables outside. As I understand it at the moment, if you want to eat inside you need to pre book but if you are happy to eat outside you can just turn up. The car park lets you park free for 2 hours, but you still have to get a ticket from the machines. If you think you will be longer than 2 hours, you need to pay the extra. We got a 3 hour ticket. Definitely recommend a visit here if you like good food and drink.

Absolutely shocking effort at making the place safe. The table set up is exactly the same as it always was. None of the staff are wearing any PPE whatsoever. There is no “one way system” like other places. You can still go up to the bar and order as there’s only a bit of tape to separate you. Asked if I needed to book to come in for drinks and one of the managers responded “we are trying to keep things relaxed as possible”. I mean you can see that. It is obvious to me they are more concerned about making money than protecting their staff and customers. Appalled.

Excellent food, which was a quiche, 2 delicious pork pies, (yummy)2 delicious sausages rolls also (yummy) a red and green apple, a large bag of Lancashire crisps and 2 delicious scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream. A very lovely birthday treat and the service was very professional under the circumstances. Enjoy

Enjoyed cinema, had a disappointing, delayed and expensive meal all topped off by a parking fine because I stayed more than 3 hours.....what on earth do they expect with a cinema and restaurant etc. Not worth bothering with.

Three of us went for a meal, ordered 2 steaks and 1 lamb saddle. One of the steaks was very overcooked and tough (we had asked for medium rare). we sent it back and they did another one, which was lovely, but by the time it came out the other two had finished their meals. It's a shame when one person ends up eating on their own. When the bill came we were charged full price for the steak, not even a free drink to compensate. I would never go back here for a special meal (birthday) as i have no confidence that the quality of all meals ordered would be good.

Came here for some lunch after a walk around Clitheroe, to be awarded with great service. Food may have been a little bit slow coming out of the kitchen but maybe that was because we were just hungry! Service was excellent with polite, lovely staff.

This place now has a cinema - with food and drink!?! The main bar area, especially with a Bowland ale and some nachos, is good for a sit down, and there may even be a wedding party to entertain you.

A stunning setting and great product, Holmes Mill struggles to cater its own success. At a not too busy section of the bar, a blonde bartender ignores the order of service even when informed correctly by gracious customers. At now £3.90 A pint (for a beer brewed on site!), one has to wonder what exactly they are paying for. Food comes with its own problems, they offer waiting on, but then it took 20 minutes to find someone to take the order. Food did arrive promptly, but my black pudding bobbins failed to deliver on a crucial element: the black pudding. Then there are the patrons, with an increase in stag do style groups, banging tables and singing, the atmosphere is anything but relaxed.

We love Holmes Mill, but having been through nearly all the menu, to be honest it could do with a change or revamp. The staff are always superb and the choice of beers is amazing, but I would have thought such an expanse of bar would have had an Armagnac, but sadly no.And it’s nice to see the car park warning signs have been improved and made an awful lot larger. I was a previous victim of the “ You’ve over stayed your welcome and ended up with a £60 charge.Still well worth a visit though.

After visiting Holmes Mill last night for a family Birthday,I can honestly say I will not be returning. The standard of food was dreadful. I ordered a steak and it was as tough as old boots needless to say I didn't eat it. Anybody who knows me knows that I me knows that I never complain about food but it was that bad I feel I needed to say something. To top it all off I ordered a glass of wine (large) to be told it was £9-70. I actually thought it was a mistake but apparently not!!! So if your thinking of going be sure to take out a loan first.

Don’t go to Holmes Mill if you don’t want to be mugged. After spending £70 on a mediocre meal, I attended a live streaming at the cinema, only to find at the interval that I would have to pay another £60 fine for overstaying a 3 hour parking limit. Yes there are signs but Burnley cinema have similar signs but don’t fine after 3 hours. It’s a shabby business. Please avoid.

Really disappointed with what should have been a lovely family outing. The food was reasonable but sadly not piping hot. Although tasty, the portion size of one of the dishes was ridiculously small (especially for £12) but the main disappointment was the service which was appalling. Very slow - indifferent at best, but actually almost bordering on rude. Ordered dessert but had to cancel after 35 minutes waiting. Will not visit again.

So I visited the Boilerhouse café today after a bad experience last week which resulted in me leaving with one of my family members who was sitting there for 20 minutes not eating while everyone else around them had their breakfast because they forgot about it and when they was told about it-it still didn’t come, I thought coming this morning for breakfast and it not being busy that service would be fine and so I ordered granola and whilst I was ordering the waitress corrected me and said ‘the muesli’ I said no granola and pointed to where It was on the menu, I had already had granola before when I visited on 24th January so I knew It was different to the muesli but it was served to me this morning as muesli not granola after I showed her when she was taking my order what I was ordering of the menu. I went to the waitress and told her that I had ordered granola not muesli and instead of informing me when she took my order she then told me that I must’ve had an old menu because it isn’t on the menu but it was on every other menu in the café as well as mine. As I went to pay for my food I ordered a chocolate cheesecake and an indulgent blondie which I described and pointed too- to the same waitress that had served me before but when I’ve got home and opened the box she has given me a lotus Biscoff.

There truly is an large selection of well kept beers here - 37 on offer on our visit - but they were all a bit "safe". It seems as though they choose the beers that will sell quickly, as opposed to using their vast selection of taps to offer something innovative. Unfortunately, all the staff that served us knew nothing about any of the beers, simply wanting to take an order without being able to offer any advice.

Table booked for 1pm. Drinks order taken 1.15pm Drinks took 30 mins to arrive. Food order taken in between. Took around 40 mins for that to arrive, then only 5 out of the 6 meals arrived, one had been forgotten. It was evident it had been forgotten as the bread accompanying the first chowder had been beautifully charred/toasted, the bread accompanying the second was not. My chilli brisket was good, though not as spicy as I expected, the accompanying sweet potato wedges were stodgy, limp and unappetising.

We had a night at the new every-man Cinema and had a really good night, we noticed the parking signs that said maximum 3 hour stay, so we asked the staff about the parking and we was told we would be ok as long as we was in the cinema. WRONG around 8 days later we received an extortionate £100 fine, we had spent around £80 on tickets and around £75.00 on food and drink, I appealed and was told the staff gave us wrong information and we had exceeded 3 hours Appeal rejected see you later £100 ES Parking should wear a masks disgusting how they can charge that much

Found a lovely complex in Clitheroe, with Spanish style foodhall serving tapas and good quality food. The atmosphere was really good with Spanish music playing. We will certainly return as there is an adjacent cinema with free parking - limited to 3 hours and lots of places to eat and drink

Lovely food, great atmosphere, great drinks... Unfortunately marred by terrible service, having to ask more than once for both menus and the bill. Service was also slow. Such a shame given it promised so much. It is also a little pricier than it should be given the poor level of service received.

We went to the fantastic cinema to watch Star Wars. Lengthy film with 30+ mins of adverts. Fantastic venue-recommended to everyone following visit, and enjoyed a glass of wine after the movie....perfect post Christmas mayhem afternoon. This is a fabulous venue BUT my mother in law parked as she’s a member - the film length was 2 hours 15 mins - she arrived about 20 mins earlier than the start time to ensure a parking space as you just can’t park anywhere now in clitheroe since all the new housing developments- plus then there are all the adverts before the film. This meant it was over 3 hours before she left. She’s a pensioner - a £100 fine appeared

Went to watch Star Wars Rise of the Resistance over Xmas and because the film is so long ( plus adverts ) we over stayed the parking by 18 minutes. Not knowing in advance what the length of the movie was ( plus adverts ) we are obviously somewhat put out by the £60 parking charge we have now received. Needless to say we will NOT be visiting Holmes Mill or the Everyman Cinema again... Customer services for Everyman was of course of no help what-so-ever, customer service number for Holmes Mill, no-one answers... Not impressed to say the least

I booked a table but we were not told when we sat down that food would be an hour! A Plate of Burger sliders and Fish and Chips and whilst the batter on the fish was lovely the chips were warm and we were too hungry to complain to have to wait again so it was disappointing. 3 soft drinks lager shandy and 2 mains under £40.The place was busy and buzzy. Toilets clean and service very good so will go again if only to try the something different on the menu. Plenty of seating and a great place for large group. Dogs welcome and those with mobility issues wont have a problem with seating or Toilet facilities.

This place is a real gem. Essentially a slightly pricey but superb delicatessen with a cafe/restaurant. You can sit at the marble bar and sip champagne with you lunch or simply have brunch and a latte. The food, service and value are excellent - the planks of vegetarian, seafood and cheese are tremendous. The ambiance in this converted mill is also excellent. Highly recommend.

Staying at the hotel part and went into the bar with the view to eating later. Observed the service to the large table next to us was absolutely appalling. Some had finished before their companions got served. Cutlery wasn't provided, one of the party had to go and get some.Food didn't appear to be good as lots left. I ordered a coffee- didn't arrive, so went to the bar to order drinks. Bar staff indifferent towards providing service. Stood talking to each other. Another pretending to clean the bar counter while people noticeably waiting to be served. Another ignored me and the person next to me to serve someone who'd just walked up but was obviously acquainted with them. All in all, totally shambolic and unprofessional service.
