Holkham Courtyard Cafe in North Norfolk

Very limited range on offer been coming to Holkham for years and have to say he courtyard cafe menu is disappointing and has never changed over that time it probably ok if you like leak& potato soup veg chilli & sausage rolls and a small range of pre- packed sandwiches. I would suggest it would be better to franchise it out to deliver a better customer standard. Missing great opportunities here.

Having arrived at this beautiful country estate the expectations were high but the cafe was more like a motorway service station - staff didn't seem to care, tea was a mug with a tea bag in it - apparently they are not allowed to use the teapots - there was one on a shelf behind but it could not be used. All the bakery items were in plastic packaging and individually wrapped with a mass produced feel. When we asked about scones they said they are too busy in December to do them. Asked for a portion of wedges but they wouldn't sell them separately. Really disappointing.

I was disappointed to see ready sliced defrosted slices of cake covered in plastic . Unappealing. I thought the Hall embraced sustainability? Surely they could source cakes made by a local supplier? . Scones weren’t covered in plastic but sold out by the time I got around to ordering . Breakfast earlier in the day ( 3 sausage roll ) was pleasing and coffee good . Salad was appetising . Staff charming and helpful . I would be interested in knowing why Holkham offer defrosted pre packaged cake slices ?

Sadly over priced and poor quality for a captive audience On a plus good toilets Cafe sandwiches were very dry and stale made the day before and just not nice There was a food village through out the summer if visiting I would try there instead

My wife and I have eaten in the cafe, or outside in the courtyard a number of times. Last time we had a wonderful fresh salad. Today, what went wrong?. We both had a large bowl of salad with something from every container. Too many beans, not enough variety. I would think that we left at least half of the over £18.50 we’d paid. Rescued the meal by sharing a cream tea. That was lovely. Lots of barking dogs in the Courtyard. Why can’t the owners train them. Soon they’ll have too have a collar around the dogs neck with the owner’s name and address on, whether the animal is chipped or not.

There was a fair range of sandwiches and hot food on offer and the courtyard was attractive to relax in.

We visited Holkham to see the candlelight display. We arrived early to have some lunch. The cafe was absolutely freezing and we had a miserable lunch. The only place which was warm was the gift shop. The toilets were freezing and the tour around the hall which was beautiful was also bloody cold. We were cold from 2pm until around 4pm it was pretty miserable!

Last summer, my family and I visited Holkham Hall and had an amazing trip. We had a gorgeous sunny walk around the lake and a delicious meal recommended by the hot food supervisor James. This time we had a festive treat waiting for us at Holkham. The hall and the Cafes looked spectacular with all the Christmas trees and decorations. The food was festive and tasty. However, we were deeply saddened to hear that the James the hot food supervisor had left. The team were incredibly friendly however, they must’ve been following his outstanding example. We look forward to visiting again.

I was absolutely delighted to find that this cafe was able to offer a lunch for me as I am gluten and dairy free. I was given options from the buffet selection and it was absolutely delicious. I was very happy with my choice.

Popped in for lunch and had a vegan sausage roll. Absolutely delicious. Also had a lovely pot of fruit. Friendly service. Reasonable prices (considering the location etc). Plenty of seating.

I enjoyed a super vegan meal from the salad bar washed down by a can of Adnams dry hopped lager. It helped that it was a nice day and that it wasn't busy but we enjoyed a very pleasant lunch.

Fabulous location, food was ok except for the raisins, took longer to pick them out than it took to eat the rest.... Very good value and coffee was good too.

we'd spent quite a long time on Wells Beach and wanted some sustenance. Cold drinks and tasty sandwiches served by very nice staff, and eaten at a courtyard table in the shade - what more can you want.

Popped in for a coffee and cake. The slices of cake were pre wrapped , very thin and dry for £3.75 and the cappuccino was only half a cup. Very disappointing

Delighted at last to find an establishment that caters for people who dont like mayonnaise or dressings and just want good old fashioned sandwich. Enjoyed very nice cheese tomato and chutney last week Along with nice bowl of fresh salad.

Have not visited Holkham for a while, but presumably the Courtyard Cafe has been recently redecorated and upgraded. Everything looked bright and clean, the staff were great, and there was plenty of space both inside and outside. Best of all the food was terrific - especially the salads. I could have any combo of salads I wanted, and as much as would fit in the bowl. It was all very tasty and fresh. The pulled pork in a bun was very good, and the sausage rolls, bacon butties and so on all looked excellent. Portions are very generous. Really impressed!

Visited just after 10am . Nice choice of drinks. Sausage subs very good. Excellent choice of coffees . Very clean and lots of space. Friendly staff.

While visiting the impressive Holkham Hall, we decided to have lunch here, and while it is not a fancy restaurant, the food we had was delicious. Our bbq pulled pork burgers with side salads were really a treat and we found the place really charming...

When visiting the Holkham area we always go to the Holkham Estate. The Courtyard Cafe is a great place to meet up and have a coffee with friends.

Great offering for a cafe, a huge range of drinks/cake/snacks and a few vegan and gluten free options. Nice spot to sit outside in the sunshine, and dog friendly. Also loved the focus on recycling, sustainability and plastic free options!

If you are visiting Holkam Hall it is worth spotting in for lunch at the Courtyard Cafe. Here you will find an excellent array of sandwiches, sausage rolls, soups and other tasty items plus cakes galore. There should be something for everyone and the staff...

Selection of cafe food was a bit of a disappointment, and people had to wait for hot food as the ovens weren't to temperature so we had to make do with sandwiches. Staff in cafe were young and seemed inexperienced, some work to do here....

Beautiful food, served by friendly staff in lovely surroundings. We chose the frittata with three salads for lunch. Hearty and healthy fare. Delicious too. Choice of outdoor or indoor seating. Nice clean loos. Lovely all round experience.

Nice environment with outdoor seating in the old stable yard. Plenty of choice to eat. Toilets are clean and the gift shop is full of expensive 'stuff' to remind you of your visit. The staff were all very professional . There is plenty of space...

There was a good choice of food, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and well marked out COVID signage.

Not much to write home about. The courtyard is pleasant enough but the cafe is pretty indifferent and a bit of a disappointment when considering the surroundings. It’s always been pretty indifferent but is worth a miss at the moment.

Ok food, though nothing special. However the saving grace, for me, was that they sold Chocolel! Only other times I have ever seen this delicious chocolate drink for sale have been in the Netherlands. Awesome.

Great service and fabulous coffee in gorgeous surroundings, definitely recommended. Great to browse around and buy dishes, home goods etc while way for coffee.

Ate here on a wet November day before a walk around the park. The courtyard cafe is a lovely welcoming space with lots of choice of seating. Service was good but it was a quiet day. I had a tuna jacket potato with a selection...

Busy lunchtime. We sat outside as quite a large group with a dog. Plenty of hot and cold food available to mix and match. Friendly staff, eager to help. Hot drinks good. Good selection of cakes.

Stopped here for a brew and a bite to eat. Lovely setting, staff were friendly and efficient, even though they were extremely busy. We had the Italian Sausage casserole, with crusty bread. So delicious and tasty, well done.

Visited the hall and decided to have a bite to eat, the service was good and the staff where friendly. Had the homemade sandwiches and cake, which where tasteful, filling and fresh made, well worth it.

Arrived at about 1pm so very busy and long queues to pay. We chose two boxed salads and a couple of cakes, chicken salad had lots of chicken, avocado and hummus salad just four pieces of avocado. Cakes were delicious, the gf apple crumble style cake was amazing, as was the bakewell slice. Restaurant spacious and clean. Hot food looked fabulous - perhaps another time.

Better than most cafe/restaurants at tourist attractions with a good selection of sandwiches, salads, hot dishes and the usual array of cakes.

Sorry I could not give full stars. Coffee was average. Service was good. Real lack of selection of food left at 1pm. Dried scone:(. But the place is amazing. Would go again.(Though maybe not for the coffee).

Came here for coffee, really nice cafe. Plenty of seating inside and out. Staff were efficient and the coffee was good. Food looked good too. Nice toilets.

What a lovely atmopshere....and what greart choice of food either for a snack or lunch...we had a large table of 14 in the courtyard, relaxing and eating brunch...fabulous.

We usually enjoy the Courtyard, but I felt it had let standards slip on our recent visit. Chilli con Carne on rice was not very hot (thermally), and the rice just too harsh and rough (apparently "al dente"). Not enjoyable. Come on, you guys can usually deliver really good quality for the price.

A lovely cafe, in a beautiful setting, plenty on offer from cakes and scones to pies, sandwiches and hot food, a good variety of drinks, but no slice of cake should be £3.25 and a little disappointed to see plastic cutlery.

We enjoyed a morning snack of croissants and sausage rolls (the best we had ever tasted!). We returned for lunch at 12.30 looking forward to one of the two hot dishes offered which had been described in our earlier visit but unfortunately a coach party had beaten us to it and the dish we wanted was unavailable. We could have waited and the lovely staff member offered to reserve us a portion but we decided to have more of the delicious sausage rolls with salad. The victoria sponge cake shared for pudding was again one of the best we had ever had. We would definitely recommend the cafe and would return if we were in the area.

Tea on the 11th. Nice slice of cake. Oh, the sausage roll was fabulous. Nice interior, or sit outside. Some sofas in a corner if you prefer.

Nice courtyard setting in the sun (plenty of indoor seating too). There’s an old red tractor for the kids to jump on and play with Amdahl an ice cream seller too. We settled for the cafe coffee which was fairly average.

A beautiful park. Loads of wild life. Lovely coffee and cake. Great staff and service. In March a walk here followed by the cafe is just the most relaxing thing to do.

Happy for dogs to be inside or out. Good range of food and drinks. Best cafe in the area and you get the car park fee back if you spend £12 or more. Highly recommended.

After a walk around the estate with its beautiful surroundings we popped in for a drink the service was excellent with friendly staff and the coffee and hot saussge roll and sponge cake was delicious a great place to visit

The Courtyard Cafe is a lovely building with a lovely feel, lots of space, lots of tables and no difficulty finding somewhere to sit and relax at midday on a Sunday but such a disappointment that the Hot Chocolate came from a machine and is more expensive than certain chain coffee shops.

My whole family loves it here. One of the most relaxing places to visit for late breakfast or cuppa, go for a walk, have lunch, visit more stuff, then have afternoon tea. My grandson loved the tractor in the courtyard and the woodland playground. I think his mum enjoyed that bit too.

After a walk around Holkham estate we attended this gem. Tea was very good and the choice of food excellent. We had a great chicken roll and an outstanding pork pie.

We regularly drop by the Holkham Courtyard when we visit the Holkham estate, and it seldom disappoints. A brilliant courtyard to sit in, which catches the sun even in early Autumn, dogs welcome, inside space if required. Usually good selection of food, including cooked dishes at lunchtime, although watch that sometimes these run out if popular. We once had reason to complain about the scones, and the reaction was entirely positive and the complaint dealt with professionally.

Great place to rest and recharge after a long walk around the estate. Good coffee and a really nice sausage roll eaten in the courtyard in the autumn sunshine.

If, like me, you find the main hall a little on the pricey side, there is still plenty to do outside the house. One of them is afternoon tea in the Courtyard Cafe. The cafe is bright and spacious and divided into three seating areas. The outside courtyard, inside with wooden canteen style tables and chairs and further down the inside back, big leather sofas with plenty of reading material. The cafe was busy on a sunny, Thursday afternoon (plenty of young families around before the back to school madness next week). We settled on 2 mugs of tea and a scone and a slice of Victoria sponge cake. The lady in front of me got the last scone, horror! So, I waited for a fresh batch to arrive. And waited and waited and waited. I eventually found a waitress who said there was a fresh batch in the oven. Great but shouldn't this be timed better? I think it took about 20-25 mins for the fresh batch to arrive. We were eventually served and decided to sit outside. Big mistake. Attacked by wasps as soon as we sat down and were forced inside! Not the establishment's fault - but still - we didn't want to sit inside on such a nice day. The leather sofas were, however, extremely comfortable with plenty of magazines and books to keep us occupied. The scone and sponge cake were both delicious - the scone so crumbly and fresh - the long wait for it, forgiven and forgotten. One thing to note, however - I went up to get a spare napkin and a man was quibbling with one of the servers. He ordered a cream tea but was told the tea was not included with the scone - he would have to pay for a separate tea. Surely this is not a cream tea if he has to buy both separately? In my book, a cream tea consists of tea WITH scones, jam, and cream???? Not scones, jam, and cream AND BUY THE TEA SEPARATELY? Sort it out Courtyard Cafe!!!

Walked through the park and stopped off here for a drink and to feed the baby. Lovely bright, clean and loads of space so we got a nice table even on a busy summer day, friendly staff and good selection on sandwich’s cakes and drinks, my sister was happy they do milk alternative for her coffee. I wanted a milkshake which they don’t do so settled on a bottle of water. Really good toilet facilities, really clean and a totally separate baby change room which is brilliant! We also had an ice cream from the independent stall just outside and that was delicious! Local to the area so will definitely return.

Turned up here with a large group (on a walk) and sat outside in the pretty courtyard area. I had a lovely quiche with a fresh salad which was very tasty, though a bit pricey really for what it was. The sausage baguettes looked like the best value for money. Food is not made to order, but there seemed to be quite a quick turnaround of fresh food being prepared so wasn't a problem.

As most of the reviews - a lovely setting to have lunch, dogs welcome and really welcome with water bowls around the Courtyard and tables far enough apart to ensure the non dog lovers don’t object!

Drowned our sorrows with another cream & jam scone, they are very good here HOWEVER the service in the cafe is chaotic. No plates with the help yourself cakes, only a couple of sandwiches left in the fridge. It is a popular cafe but needs more staff and organisation when busy.

The food was excellent as was the service. Plenty of tables to chose from. Good choices at reasonable prices.

Very organised and I was impressed; I visited with family on the busy half term and there were so many people! Went for lunch and I was expecting a half hour wait but it was very simple, straightforward took five minutes! The food is nice too. Lots of seating both inside and out. Prices are expensive,typical of a venue like this.

It is so nice to find places like this one that consistently maintain high standards. Even on a crowded Easter Sunday with high demand service was efficient, tables were clean and the refreshments very good, especially as the colder weather meant people were opting for the indoor spaces. Congratulations to the Holkham team !

We were lucky to be at Holkham Hall on the best weather day in all of March! After a lovely walk by the lake we head to the cafe in search of scones and they did not disappoint!

We have visited twice with quite an interval between the two. This cafe certainly copes very well with a large number of visitors. We only had great sausage rolls and good coffee so cannot comment on other offerings but these looked very nice. Prices are also fair for the quality of the produce. Right within the Holkham Estate it is in close proximity to the house and many other attractions - or just walk in the park and soak up the atmosphere and wonderful views!

We called in to visit the shop on our way to Burnham Market as the leaflet we saw advertised it as ' Christmas shopping'...A few bits instore but not worth the detour we'd taken . Never mind, we decided to have a coffee and cake whilst here. Big mistake. The cappuccino was strong and bitter and the slice was ok.....nothing to write home about ..but, the seating was filthy. Stains on the cushions , food on the floor uncleared table and a general air of neglect. I don't thing the owners ( shown pictured on beautiful seats ) would want to sit in their cafe and quite frankly, I wished we hadn't bothered either!

Always a good place to stop for a coffee or a bite to eat. The meals are home cooked and tasty. There is always a good combination of salads or vegetables. Prices are increasing which is a shame as up to now it has been very reasonably priced.

Always a joy to eat here...not to be missed. From a cake and coffee to a fully prepared meal the food and staff are great. Almost worth the long journey just for a meal here.

In a world where mediocre cafes proliferate like vermin this was a breathe of fresh air. Excellent coffee, good home-made sandwiches and some tasty cake. Its also laid out well, nicely decorated and very spacious without seeming crowded. Hats off to the designer.

The food was good. There is lots of space. It is clean and tidy even at the end of the day. All of us enjoyed our choice of snack.

We had lunch in this cafe after visiting the Food to Folk exhibition, I have had the sausage roll on prvious visits, still as good as the last visit, this time I had it with a small portion of coleslaw, very nice it was too. My wife had the homemade soup again very good.

This cafe is worth visiting with plenty of outside and indoor seating. Food is tasty and there is a good variety from quick snacks to larger meals. Reasonable prices.

Expensive. Even the price of the beverages is eye watering. The place is well set and large Inside and out tables clean well kept. Average selection of food.

After a bike ride around the extensive Holkham estate it was time to treat ourselves in the cafe. Hot Chocolates with the trimmings plus cake. All excellent. Lovely cafe, great staff, great food, great venue. Holkham have spent some money investing in the courtyard area and it shows with a fascinating museum, lovely shop and cafe. Highly recommended.

After a visit to the estate we decided to visit the courtyard cafe for lunch. The food was lovely and fresh, the staff were so friendly we couldn't fault our visit. If you visit try the lemon shortbread it's delicious.
