The food was horrible and should not have been served. The atmosphere was poor at best. The only redemption was the staff were super helpful and friendly.

Where do I start Sunday lunch meat not cooked full fat Vegg not cooked cauliflower cheese hard not hot told staff said would have a word with chef would never go again visit this pub again money down the drain and still hungry .family 4 to go home hungry .

Different Menu is on the Web site to the one in the pub ,it was very cold definitely no heating on and no atmosphere,people were only coming in to use the toilets never again

No more pies, different menu, but good service

We had a very nice burger and chips. It was all quality ingredients and cooked perfectly. Presentation and service was excellent. All for around £8. I am personally not into craft beers but if you are there are loads to choose from. Excellent evening out. We have had more visits since... Still very good.

Great place for a drink with a very good selection and service. Was quiet the day we stopped in for a pint but was welcoming and relaxing.

Paris served us and she was really lovely and very on top of a busy lunchtime service. I had the steak and ale pie which was brilliant and my friend had a teesside parmo that he loved. Prices are very reasonable and I can't say enough about how excellent Paris was, what a treasure.

Travelled down to get food, to be told they no longer served food. Disappointed.

Far to cramped with very poor service

This is the first time we have been to this pub and we will be visiting again and often. We stopped for lunch and had amazing bao buns that tasted excellent at a very reasonable price, even the coffee was good. Great atmosphere and a nice looking pub, definitely somewhere to visit any day or night.

The hole in the wall has gone down in quality since it has been taken over. Popped in for the first time in a while yesterday for lunch, there was only one staff member on , took ages to get served then the food was bang average. Disappointing really since it was a favourite of mine a few years back

What a rip off this place is down for the RTB festival and every time I went to the bar the price of the same round went up. Wont be back

Fish and chips was really good!

We hired the top room for a private party and could not recommend more. The room was set up perfectly, speakers played our own playlist throughout the night. Roxanne hosted for us and she was the absolute best, went above and beyond and we could not have asked for anyone better to look after us xx

The hotel was recommended to us by a friend, as we are just passing through Darlington. The food was fantastic, but even more importantly, the service by Ali was exceptional. She went out of her way to help us choose our food, and upon noting we were tourists, offered us local recommendations for things to do and places to see. It really set the hotel apart from the rest.

Disappointment. 2nd time here. Ordered an arrangement of tapas. The prawns, calamari and halloumi were all deep fried to a crisp not really eatable. Chef must have forgot them in the fryer. Surprised they still served it. Won't be back anytime soon. Feel really sorry for the bloke running the bar who is the waiter too and having to run up and down the stairs just to get customers a bit of tomato sauce or salt. Why not just have those condiments downstairs at the bar for easy access for him.

1st time in Darlington,Easter Sunday Roast,Food was excellent and staff brilliant.

Cold and wet Friday night, but lovely warm welcome. Barman was fantastic with good service and a sense of humour.

Had an amazing Sunday Roast Lunch in the Hole in the Wall. Highly recommend trying this popular bar for excellent food. Friendly staff and delicious food.

Nice pub, good food, great choice of drinks. You need to book for the food. I'm not sure if upstairs restaurant is still open as couple last times we were eating at the bar are. One minus ➖️ always understaffed and poor guy in the bar running like headless chicken, making drinks, bringing food, cleaning tables. It's actually the same story with all pubs in the area that belong to Warren Kreft

Excellent pub and really nice, friendly and helpful barman, great atmosphere, ordered Sunday roast, if the cabbage had been cooked and the cauliflower cheese not so hard and had a bit of cheese sauce and not just grated cheese, it would have been perfect

We held a baby shower in the function room above the bar. It was a well kitted room, perfect size for the 15 of us attending. The staff were helpful and so kind. They were patient when we had requests and always served with a smile on their face. The Buffett served was hot, delicious and we'll presented. Everyone found something to enjoy, including the 4 year old who found the tasty caramel sauce and brownies. The team working on Saturday 4th February 2:30-7:00pm, you worked hard and have done Hole in the wall proud! 10/10, I would recommend you use their services for your small celebratory needs! Just bring your own boxes for any leftovers ;) special thanks to the staff who have introduced me to passion fruit cocktails!

Nice place and good cocktails. Would recommend the passion fruit martini. Only downside couldn't have another as no ice left.

Went in for 1 pint on a Saturday night when passing. Stayed all night, Music in background was really good bar staff where great and a cracking pint of beer. Highly recommended to anyone passing.

Looked nice enough but it didn't have any seating for our 1 year old. We went for su day lunch. Tall seats near the bar would have been dangerous for our baby so we had to go elsewhere.

Visited here for a Friday lunch. The bar was almost empty and we sat at a table overlooking part of the market square. Most of the tables are higher level with stool type chairs. The menu provides a wide range of choice, and food and drinks are ordered and paid for at the bar. The meeting of special dietary needs required a little investigation. It took some time for the meals to be served, but when received, they were very good quality and value. The service was pleasant and friendly. We would rate our visit as "Good" rather than "Very Good"

All the food, including the dips, made in house and was fantastic. The chef clearly has a passion for food and everything was delicious. Highly recommended.

Popped in here on our Christmas outing, Christmas decor was very tastful It was very warm and welcoming as were the staff Lots of options on the bar including 4 cask ales Lots of Gin and spirits (chocolate orange shots were amazing) A great place to catch up

Went there on Monday 19th of December after a bit of Christmas shopping Was looking forward to it as I had read so many good reviews On arrival was impressed by the quirky of decor But to say I was impressed by the food I was not , I had a parmo and my partner a chicken butter burger. Which were very greasy and tasteless.It’s was a long wait which we were told on ordering but expectations were not meet on the wait unfortunately

Has a nice morning with a colleague in here last week very relaxed vibe & warm. Coffee was great the bar lady said it was a festive bean, honestly one of the best coffees I have had. We didn’t eat but the food looked good passing us by.

Had our car in garage, so we ventured into the town and stumbled across this warm welcoming pub. We opted for lunch here and there was quite a few in dining when we arrived. Partner opted for a Beef Pie - That was Huge and came with mash, greens gravy & proper chips. whilst I thought I was playing it safe with a club sandwich - I was wrong that was also a large dish as it came with chips salad coleslaw. very reasonably priced for the size of portions we will be visiting again

Haven’t been to the Hole in the Wall in a while so we decided to pop in for tea - always had good experience in the past. But this was the first time visiting since it has been taken over my new owners and 1 word disappointed. I Ordered Bao Buns (sweet chilli)- meant to be served with coleslaw, fries, garlic Mayo, salad and coleslaw. The sauce was not correct - no coleslaw and the driest salad ever. Practically dead. This was taken back so my partner ate by himself. My partner ordered ‘The hole’ burger, with nacho cheese, pigs in blankets, salad etc. No pigs in blankets, no coleslaw, no cheese. Wasn’t great. As you have to pay before you eat - just left with crap food and might as well have eaten separately. Only reason I gave 2 stars is I felt sorry for the only member of front of house on the floor - doing bar, running food and clearing tables. Give the place a miss!

Great selection of Real ales available. But the food is outstanding. Don't forget to ask for a doggy bag because I bet you can't finish what you order. Staff really friendly and helpful as well. Splendid find in Darlington Hope to be back there soon.

I don’t think this place is advertised as well as they should? You walk into a pub end off then Upstairs is a lovely restaurant. The food is amazing as are the staff. This place really needs to sort their advertising campaign out. Outstanding!!!

We visited for a drink,nice place but everybody needed to have our coats on ,no heating on, overall bartender was polite and helpful and drinks were nice

Been coming here since taking my new in darlington, its my favourite watering hole. Staff are great & the selection of realales are good, regularly get there scotch egg its amazing, if your in the area you must have a visit

Poor meal - My husband's gammon was over cooked and my sausage was practically burned. There was only one member of staff serving at first and he did the best he could but it was a poor experience. I would not recommend.

Visited here today for lunch, Staff were very friendly and welcoming, food was beautiful the beef was cooked to perfection. Not a long wait and big portions - definitely get your monies worth. Would highly recommend if you have been before.

Went in on the eve of the Queens funeral. Had a round of their expensive drinks in a very cold bar. As it was approaching 8pm for the minutes silence we thought we'd stay so we could observe it. Did order a round but also...

Homemade chips what a treat. Value for money. Quick service. Enjoyed our lovely Mocktails. Shame I was driving otherwise we would have had the 2 cocktails for £12 offer.

Used to be a nice pub, turned into a food pub and is now garbage, beer was foul. Don't visit Darlington very often and will definitely not be visiting this place agai. Very disappointing.

Incredible food, friendly service, beautiful decor and a warm atmosphere. I took my parents here for dinner and the staff couldn't do enough for us. The food was absolutely gorgeous.

Don't visit often but never disappointed when we do. Nice beer selection and the seating out front is great when there's events going on in the market square.

Had a parmo night here last Wednesday & it was fabulous, they are huge! Came with everything, salad fries, coleslaw, garlic mayo & it was cooked perfectly. Would recommend a visit if in darlington.

Absolutely terrible experience and visit today. Hardly any staff on for the inside and out area seemed to be 3. 1 bar 2 waitress. Drinks order wrong, Sunday platter meat arrived then 10mins later the veg then further 10 mins plates by which time everything...

Great pub with a brilliant menu,if you can't find anything to eat here you never will. Lovely choice of beers and lager and friendly professional staff.very reasonable prices and Lovely outside seating area.

Me and my fiance had a meal there yesterday, his was exceptional beef lasagne however I wasn't impressed by mine, they hadn't any duck for my Chinese parmo so I changed it to pigs in blanket but I didn't really enjoy the pork parmo, pigs in blanket were delicious but the chips were chunky when I asked for skinny fries, coleslaw was too hard, need regular cabbage not red, salad I didn't like. Service was excellent and welcoming, and will try something different next time.
