Always a nice atmosphere in here, staff always chatty and friendly. Good choice of food in the menu and all taste different. Good portion sizes and reasonably priced. Limited choice of beers. Definately recommend this venue.

3rd best curry house I've been 2 never had a bad meal small and cosy inside another great meal never have bad food service slow 2 night but was busy .need 2 update the billing system hand written so 1980 ...hard 2 understand especially when group of people. That are picky ..

Was made to feel very uncomfortable by the staff in there when I out with a friend last night, Tuesday 19th March 2024. I don’t know why but the staff all had the same demeaner. The food was good. However, I took a takeaway home for my partner and it was not like what was ordered. In fact the pompadoms had no onions and mango chutney only. This is not the usual standard that I get from there and hope that it never repeats.

Fantastic restaurant serving serving North Indian and Bengali dishes, I would highly recommend to stopover if you are passing by The Wirral.

Great food, my wife thought the Achari was amazing, great service and very reasonable, we will definitely return.

We nearly ALWAYS visit Holdi, when visiting the area from Birmingham. Our order rarely changes from Chicken Tikka Balti, Masalla & Chicken Tikka Karahi. The quality and taste of the food served here is second to NONE. Absolutely divine food, really pleasant service. Food is always hot & fresh. We always have a really wonderful time…. Would thoroughly recommend to all!

Probably the finest Rogan Josh I have ever had was served at this restaurant last week. My colleague had what he described as an excellent Prawn Biryani for our main courses. The cheese garlic bread, keema nann, onion bhaji, poppadoms and dips were first class and the Cobra as usual was great. Portions were very generous both of us can EAT and we struggled to finish our meals. The atmosphere in the restaurant was great very smart clean welcoming establishment. Service was superb and very prompt, very friendly helpful staff made for a very enjoyable evening meal after a day's work.

Gone down hill, small portions and rediculasly small chicken wings

This was a terrible curry ordered chicken shaslik and complained about the small amount of meat they gave me with one onion slice and one green pepper which he wasn't happy about the rest of our family's portions of meat was the same but they did not want to complain the guy serving our drinks could barely speak english which made ordering difficult its sad because it used to be ok but sadly gone right down hill so i wont be going here ever again worst curry restaurant in ellesmere port.

We've been coming here for 13 years. We've yet to find another curry restaurant which matches the Holdi for quality of food, and there's been some considerable research in that time. Holdi is our go to number 1 curry house. Outstanding food every time. Particularly recommend the prawn rogan.

Can honestly say both meals were the worst I have ever had ,the madras as awful and the chilli garlic was (crunchy) terrible dried garlic flakes on top of my meal. consider my self a curry expert and this is the worst place i have ever been so some of the reviews have to be untrue. on top of that the seating is not good we were crammed in and felt obliged to talk to people we did not know. Out of all the restaurants we have been to this is by by far the worst. sides were served in breakfast bowls we use in our house. I am happy to be challenged on this review as I think this place deserves it.

You know a place is good when it is busy on a Monday evening. We went about 7pm and it was pleasantly full. Everything was seemless. We were seated quickly, menus given, drinks order taken, food order taken etc in a timely way. We shared poppadums and a chutney tray, then I had a chicken karahi and my partner had a chicken tikka masala with pilau rice. We ordered a garlic naan each (no sharing that delicious goodness!) and a large glass of rose and a pint of beer and it all came to under £50. It was all fresh and full of flavour, in my karahi I could taste the ginger in it afterwards. The chicken was moist and tender, the rice fluffy and separated, breads fluffy and perfectly cooked. My partners tikka masala wasn't too sweet, and had a fresh coconut flavour to it. Highly recommend this gem that a local friend told me about a while ago and only had the good fortune to visit now. We will be back.

Stag party, we arrived shattered and hungry after a day of activities, great atmosphere, nice looking place, plenty of staff running around, obviously a popular place, and they handled the whole evening no issues, there was 10 in our party alone, and the place was nearly full with a constant turnover of customers. We had many beers, and lots of the usual poppadums' naan bread and a wide selection of the traditional curries. A really good selection, and could be made to suit your 'spiciness' range, would go again and recommend with no issues

On a recent trip to the Wirral for some medical treatment my nurse recommended Holdi to me. And I have to say I’m glad she did. The meal was reasonably priced. A really good choice of dishes. It was all really tasty. If I am ever back up this way again I would definitely revisit here for a good meal. It was very busy even for midweek so appears to be popular in the area and I can see why.

We came here off a recommendation as we both love a good curry. A fair few pros but a few cons. I asked for a still water with no ice and a lemonade with ice and got that the wrong way around. The cobra was not filled to the top which happened on all cobras - good way for them to save money. It also took a long time for them to come to the table. The poppadoms and chutney tray is quite expensive but was very nice. I had the tandoori mix starter which was lovely and my husband had the lamb tikka puree which he really enjoyed. The poppadoms and starters were out really quickly the main took quite a while which was disappointing. My husband had the tandoori mix masala which he really enjoyed and was plenty of it with all the meats cooked well. We shared a keema rice and I was really disappointed. I didn't eat most of my portion as I didn't like it at all, it really lacked flavour. My husband wasn't keen either but mixes it with the sauce so it wasn't too bad. We shared a special naan and that was beautiful and highly recommend. My main course was a chicken pathia and I really didn't like this. It wasn't sweet and sour and was very spicy quite easily a maddrass heat. I left the sauce and ate the chicken but mine was chewy. The toilets definitely need upgrading as they aren't very nice at all. Also, waiters look smart but a couple of them their tie was very short and looked silly.

Excellent meal. Well worth a visit

I stopped going to the old holdi takeaway years ago because it used too much oil in curries. I ordered to collect from the restaurant as I HAD HEARD GOOD THINGS. The bhajIs were fine but only just warm. The naan breads were quite nice and the madras curry tasted okay if a little bland. The problem came after. It sat heavy in my stomach for the next 10 hours. I felt like a bloated whale. I even woke up in the night with acid reflux and was sick. I was still aware I had eaten a curry the following morning. They clearly use a large amount of ghee oil in the cooking and it makes you feel disgusting for half a day after. Simply put, I would never chance it again. Make it a bit healthier and rely on spices not fat!!!

A little disappointed this time. Service was slow, the waiter was slovenly dressed and inattentive, and brought me the wrong drink. The food was nicely-presented though fairly average in taste. In saying that, I was in good company and we will no doubt eat there again.

After a day in Cheshire wife suggested we eat early to save going back to digs & coming out again. Arrived here at just after 6pm on a Saturday evening & expected to be only ones in there - did not expect to be nearly half full already. Quite a lot of people in there that were satisfied regulars, & the food was very good so you can understand why.

Went with our granddaughter last Saturday evening. Food was plentiful and fresh and really tasty. Good point of Cobra beer as well.

Tried holdi for the first time and what a revelation to have this nearby. Didn't have a menu so ordered the classics, butter chicken, lamb vindaloo, rice and naan. All were excellent, full of flavour, well balanced spice - and good value too!! Can't wait to go back to try their other dishes. Excellent...!

One of my favorite places in Ellesmere Port. Whether it’s eating in at the restaurant or delivery to mine, food is always piping hot! Good value for money as portions are huge, food is fresh and tasty, owner is very friendly and great with recommendations. My personal favorites are chicken tikka masala, Katta mitta(sweet and spicy), their garlic and beans side veg dish and ladies fingers. The various naan breads are must-haves and the different mushroom, egg/boiled rice are all super yummy too. A great restaurant for any sort of gathering and one of my favorite order-ins for when I am too tired to leave the house!

I'm writing this review with my parents in mind who dined there on Thursday night this week. My Mum collapsed in the restaurant and at no point was helped by the staff, as she lay unconcious in the toilets covered in sick with a defib attached waiting for an ambulance, she was helped by a couple on the next table with medical training from the countess of chester who had not long arrived at the restaurant and had not even ate their starters, whilst all this was happening, the restaurant staff did not take any details from my Dad or friends despite not knowing if my mums illness might he caused by their food, and they happily charged my dads friend £195 for food that had not even been eaten by the table of people who helped out, he was in so much shock he did not question the bill. The restaurant denied my Dad a brandy to steady his nerves as he had just seen his wife in a terrible state, he thought she was dying, "we're shut now" was the answer as the ambulance was with my mum for so long that the restaurant closed, it was felt that they were an inconvenience and there was no care shown at the situation. I for one am absolutely shocked at what occured from their side during this horrible ordeal. My Mum is lying unconscious in their toilets and they haven't asked how she is or for details as to how they can stay in touch, do you not have an accident and incident book? I know a whole load of people who do like your restaurant, but they will not be coming back again. We all have a duty of care to look after one another and as a business there are procedures you should follow and I feel you have failed your duty and failed at humanity.

Lovely food, but bizarre service. Being issued with the bill around two minutes after ordering our food was just one example. Wrong drinks delivered to the table. Same issues with the tables next to ours. Host was too busy making drinks and taking orders to deal with customers arriving, so lots of us were stood in the doorway for around 15 minutes despite all having booked tables.

Not been to Holdi for some years but my son wanted to go and we booked a table for 5. A very welcoming relaxed staff on entry and we were shown to the spacious table. Lovely, tasty, well cooked food and a fantastic selection on...

We came here on a Monday and whilst it was quieter than a weekend there was still a lovely atmosphere. The food was really really really good...I could eat it now!! Will definitely be back

Absolutely great food and great service.

Booked a booth but told in a curt manner that there wasn't one when we arrived! Not helpful, clearly not really interested. We complained that they shouldn't take bookings for specific tables if they don't honour that. Eventually they said they would move us to a booth once the party leave but that would be ridiculous and probably half way through our meal. Food was nice but attitude of staff ruined the evening.
