Great Chinese food, definitely recommend.

Had a takeaway tonight was lovely. The service was brilliant food ready on time I was given for pickup.

Ordered on friday evening, didnt seen overly busy Ribs unsauced, dry and overcooked, wontons, spring rolls and prawn toast soggy due to being served in a plastic tub. Crispy shredded beef extremely chewy however tasty sauce. Chow mein very bland. Egg fried rice very dry. Shall not be eating here again. One positive staff very friendly and order prepared very hastily ready for collection on time.

Had spare ribs, overcooked pork and more bone than meat.

Visiting on holiday so had to rely on Google reviews on where to go to get food after a hectic first day - did not disappoint! Special chow mein, chilli beef, curry all very tasty. Cash only as a heads up.

Chicken is dry and hard, nothing is freshly cooked all microwaved or reheated. The ribs were tiny and anaemic and the chicken ball were grim.

I’ve have used this restaurant twice this week and both times have been excellent. I recommend this restaurant and would certainly use it again. The food is very well priced and tastes lovely. There is a car park right next to the restaurant which makes it easy to nip in and out to collect.

I had the "Phoenix special fried rice", it was much tastier than from our other local take away. I think that we will be buying from here in the future. Fortunately it didn't rise from the ashes and get me 😂

A most excellent service, the food is always really good, my only real problem is what to choose from the menu. Highly recommend this take away if you're in Helston , there's no restaurant here however. Top notch.

Please be honest with the times some people have kids we are very regularly customers or were 25 mins longer then told is not excitable. When it was already 10 minutes late before you decided to tell me extra time was needed. I will spend my money elsewhere. I just made the same order down town at Beijing cuisine it was cheaper plus 5 on food hygiene also beat the time for above slot of other Chinese and tucking into good food when I would still be waiting at the hoi yan local person from helston so it's a shame to see you go this way..

Always first choice of local Chinese!! Front desk ladies are so lovely, reasonable price for amazing food. Always lots of meat in rice/noodles dishes, salt and pepper chips is definitely must order, good to share with Munch box!

Food from here was pretty grim and one item missing, one item was incorrect and we found a hair in one portion. I don't think that this had been freshly cooked.

Pretty disappointed, the egg fried rice was pretty stodgy, the plumber sauce on the spare ribs was just a tasteless gel and the chow mein, well I'm not sure what that was

You Yan has been my Chinese restaurant of choice for over 30 years. However, I’m not sure what has happened? New ownership perhaps? Because the food tonight was, quite frankly, terrible. The chicken in the chicken chow main was inedible, the same with the chicken with udon noodles. The duck was dry, and that was even in the plum sauce. The dim sum platter was awful, I’ve had better from the Chinese section in Asda. The chips were also dry and overcooked. To be fair the Canton special, chilli ribs and chicken satay, were not too bad. But 3 dishes out of 6 is not Good enough. £65 spent, £65 wasted. After 30+ years I will not be visiting again. Sort it out Hoi Yan, you are going to lose a lot of customers, if this is the new standard.

I never review anywhere but feel like this needed it so others can avoid disappointment. We are here on holiday, went off the best reviewed and hence I feel the need to review because those other reviews are so wrong. Don’t order chips, they are literally just reheated and I wouldn’t say reheated once or twice, they weren’t even edible (picture attached) Crispy chicken with satay sauce, literally chicken bits in a bag again these look like they have been reheated over and over and over again, so dry and hard and 50% batter. The satay sauce is not satay sauce, it tastes like carrot soup, there was a random piece of pineapple and cauliflower in there and as you can see does not look appetising at all. The fried rice was the only ok part. The food was ready within 10 minutes which isn’t a good thing, just makes you even more aware that your food is not fresh and just reheated. Honestly don’t think I’ve ever been so disappointed with a meal before.

The food was delicious - our new favourite Chinese in town. There were great flavours, we usually have the same dishes in another Chinese we visit and normally go somewhere else in Helston however, after a rude experience on the phone from one I rang Hoi-Yan. The lady who took the call was very polite and friendly and our food was on time as specified, and amazing. Will be returning in future, reasonable price in the current climate - will be recommending to others. Thank you.

Disappointed. The chicken chow mein was so watery it looked like soup in the bottom of the bowl and there was hardly any veg in it. The veg spring rolls were pretty much empty. The Singapore chow mein however was good.

Had a take away from here tonight, and the sweet and sour chicken was so good, chunky bits of pineapple. Even though that was super busy the girl behind counter was so smiley. Yummy food thank you Hoi Yan 😊

This is a very good Chinese. I had the munch box, the salt and pepper chilli ribs and chips were very nice. The price was also very reasonable.

Food pretty good a bit too many chestnuts in the Chicken and Cashew nut dish. But overall very good.

Food was beyond satisfactory, whole family of 7 enjoyed a variety of different food from here, they worked around our time to pick up, perfect start to the holiday and look forward to another later in the week 👌

We ordered by telephone and was told it would be ready in 15 minutes. It was ready and the food we ordered was very tasty even my partner said it was nice. He wanted the duck and beansprouts but sauce on the side, no problem at all it came as we asked. I think this is the best option in and around Helston if you want a Chinese look no further. I loved the salt and peppered wings and the prawns no 76 are cooked to perfection. Thank you very much we will order soon again. Ulrika

Had a takeout but oh dear. The pot of curry sauce had not got a lid on it and the sweet n sour sauce placed into it sent the sauce everywhere. The food was not hot and the fries were overcooked and too hard to eat. Without sauces the meal was disgusting. Rang and complained and was told to take it back(5.5 miles). Was told will get some extra batter balls on next visit but sorry will not return. Overpriced crap in this visit. Take your money elswhere.

Had the special curry with fried rice and it was one of the best I've had in a while. Really good meats, huge prawns and lovely thick curry sauce. It's cash only though.

Dreadful, inedible take away last night. Battered pork balls were disgusting. The pork had been pre-cooked. It was old meat that had dried, brown hard edges, or were lumps of fat. The batter was dark & hard. Wonton had a very small amount of tasteless splodge inside, & the prawn toast, ran with fat, when you bit into it. Staff always friendly and helpful, so it's a shame the food was so bad. The waiting room is also in need of a coat of paint. Not inviting.

Called multiple times and when they finally answered the woned on the phone was very rude when I asked to place an order then hung up on me...

Very busy with phone orders but our order was taken quickly and food didn't take very long. Cash payment only. Food was delicious. Beef was very tender. Good sized portions. Will be back soon.

Rang in for a pick up was told the wait would be over an hour or I could drive down and order over counter and wait would only be 20 mins. So isnt the whole point of ringing ahead of time to avoid sitting in the shop for 20 mins? Great Covid measures in place I see. Never eaten here never will now absolutely baffled by the bad customer service,woman on phone was also rude. AVOID.

What a stellar staff. I ordered a spicy beef chow mein which was perfect and the staff were soooo kind to me.

Used this Chinese for years worst chines I have ever had tipped the sweet an sour sauce on the rice it ran right through couldn’t find the prawns in the batter Colton special no sauce and the meat was just fat and gristle very disappointed for nearly £30

We went to Hoi Yan last minute and were blown away by the quality of the food, it’s was piping hot with very generous portions.

Staff are very friendly and the food is pretty good.

Best Chinese food in helston and even better now Vicky is back best front of house I've come across.

Living on the Lizard in the middle of nowhere this is the closest to us we have used them for years. Mostly all good but they can and do quite frequently mess your order up ie usually leave things out of your order! And when it's nearly a 20 mile round trip its not worth going back! And we used them last week and they made my daughter I'll.

I am sorry to have to write this as I have been coming for 20 years, Girl was too busy chatting while taking order so only put down one fried rice instead of 2, I had to just have sauce as my Chinese would be cold when by time I got rice. New staff on, as usual girl wouldn't have made this mistake

We ordered the b meal at 24.00.went to collect as didn't offer a delivery service, new we were on holiday. Went to collect food was told its £28.00. Stated website was 24.00 was told not there problem as they dont do the website they cannot change it, I said maybe you should check that customers are aware of the difference in price on the website to be told that she cant tell everyone. Very rude and terrible customer service dont trust the website so dont trust reviews? Shame as food wasn't bad

Just spent 30 quid in here. Definitely the poorest chinese take away I've ever had. Chow mein wasn't even mixed just noodles with fake chicken and large slices of carrot slammed on top. Chicken balls were pork instead and the curry sauce was like glue. Stay away unless you like to be extremely disappointed

Delicious takeaway every time! Proper salt and pepper chips, best ribs I’ve ever tasted, lots of meat and pretty much no fat. Tried all the Chinese restaurants in Helston and Porthleven and this is by far the best.

Friendly, fast service. Food is incredible. Brown, bland and boring. Not a hint of flavour beyond OK sauce (crispy beef) and lemon curd (chicken - like nuggets). For some reason everything comes with pineapple chunks (which are actually rather nice).If you like pineapple, buy one at the grocers If you fancy a Chinese, walk on by.

Got a take away. Not been here for a while. It seems to have gone down hill. At 8.30 on a Friday night, it used to be packed. There wasn't a soul in there last night. It looks really tatty inside, desperate for just a little TLC and a bloody good clean! When getting home and unpacking, discovered that they had forgotten to give me some of my food. After a phone call and moan, I had to go back and collect what I had paid for and they had forgotten, and all we got to say "sorry" was a greasy pack of prawn crackers. The food itself was average at best - much too salty in part, nowhere near as good as it was. Oh, and make sure you check your order before you leave.

Love the food massive portions lastsme for days. And never known service so quick much quicker than I ever got living in a city. Food tastes very good, sweet and sour sauce is strong but thats the wayi like it, pancake rolls huge, pastry could be cooked more all the way through but it's ok and I put that down to their size. All in all will definitely be a regular.

Haven't had a Chinese this good in 6+ years. It tasted amazing. Meals were cheap. Portion sizes were pretty big and filling. The staff are really friendly and talkative which sets a good environment.

We had meal A. Very plentiful meal, almost too much. Everything was excellent especially the soup!! Only problem? The website said the meal was £23 but it's now £27. Needs to be updated.

Been living down here for over 10 years but not until 6 months ago we tried this littleTakeAway.., and I got really frustrated the first time as I just couldn’t get an answer now however I understand.... they are just so busy as it’s the best Chinese take away we have found yet, shame doesn’t do delivery but really don’t care as the food is always 5***Really highly recommend!!

Probably the best Chinese takeaway in a 30 mile radius

food ready at pick up, lovely meal and reasonable prices. we use Hoi yam a couple of times per month a d will keep doing so. highly recommended and can call on order and pick up and pay when you get there.

Having ordered a meal for the family I went to collect it, I had specified certain items to be omitted as I’m allergic to them, in the past few times I’ve used them they had got my order wrong every time, this time I asked for it to be double checked that the order was correct but lo and behold when I got home my food had the items that I had specifically told them not to add! I rang to tell them and was told to bring it back and they would replace it, so once again I drove there, and when I said there was peppers in it, she said they were chillies! Well why don’t they say that it contains chilli, sh told me that the symbol of a chilli next to a meal represents that it contains chillies! Silly me I’ve always known that to show the heat rating. She then presented me with the money that my item had cost and told me that they weren’t prepared to cook another meal as they had wasted one already, never mind the fact that I had gone to the effort of driving back to return it and I had specifically told them my requirements and mentioned that they had got it wrong on the last few occasions. I ended up taking the one with chillies as I had o other option, seriously use the other restaurant/takeaway they might occasionally get it wrong but they always make it up to you some way

One of the best places around to get a takeaway Chinese meal. Very popular, so sometimes a little bit of a wait. However it is always worth it, great tasting food and always hot.

First night on holiday and very tired we opted for a Chinese take out. Unfortunately one dish was just ok and our other dish was inedible and went straight in the bin. Very disappointed

Great, friendly service. Parking nearby. But to be honest the food was average and was a the crispy beef was dry and tough. Rice dish was also disappointing.

From first placing the order over the phone, the member of staff was really friendly, and this was the same when we went to collect the order. All of the food we ordered was tasty and extremely good value for money. If we had stayed longer I would have visited again!

Very good takeaway with reasonable prices, friendly service, only thing I didn't enjoy so much were the noodles which are chopped up instead of being left as long pieces ( personal taste) saying that I would order another takeaway if here again

Normally call here when we fancy a takeaway meal, you can either pre order or just call in and order your meal. Good quality food reasonably priced.

Have been here for a long time and always have been very good. I know the boss man personally and he is a wonderful chap. He loves Helston and likes to keep us happy and fed.

The best Chinese food I’ve tasted for along time.

The receptionist was very polite should be noted. Collected take away and then got home to discover they had forgot the sweet and sour sauce. So had the driest sweet and sour chicken balls ever. To add to that the chicken balls batter was very Soddy and not cooked long enough. The mushrooms and chips was ok. But the meal was ruined and I could have got back in my car but why should I drive back and have to find parking. Very disappointed. However I am sure it was a genuine mistake with the sauce but it ruined the meal.

My last two orders now the chow mein have been so salty they are barely edible and today's order had so much oil in the container. Really gone down hill.

We recently had a take-away from here and the food was actually very tasty apart from one thing, the amount of salt and from reading previous reviews, we are not the only ones to notice this. It was so salty that it actually left a stinging feeling in your mouth. The rice was fine, the chicken was very nice and there were plenty of prawns, but all the dishes including the pancake roll were full of salt. We have eaten from here many times and this is our first choice for Chinese take-away in Helston. This is the first time this has happened. I am prepared to give it another try and perhaps the owners will take on board the comments and reduce the amount of salt in the food in future.

We have been coming here for years and always so very happy but since the new recent take over the standard has dropped dramatically.

My favourite Chinese in the Helston area

Very good takeaway restaurant, have always had good food when ordering from them. Good choice of menu for you to choose from.

Oh what a shame, Just collected our take away, once home, opened each dish and it looked and smelt wonderful, both my wife and I sat down to enjoy but from the first taste each dish was completely spoilt by far too much salt, I don't like salt whereas my wife likes salt on just about everything yet it was far too much for her and unfortunately it was assigned to the bin, So PLEASE How Yan for your customers health sake and your reputation cut well back on the salt, people can add but can't take away, so for me, £30 in the bin.

Wasn't sure wether to try it looking at mixed reviews, but we did and all I can say is salt salt salt, the chow mien was inedible so salty like wise the prawns in ginger and spring onion, the special fried rice and Singapore noodles were lovely, so I would just implore them to use less salt !!

Mi chino y es el mejor en Helston, los otros son consistentemente mal. Nunca he tenido una mala comida, aunque no estoy particularmente aventureros en lo que he pedido. Usted tiene que tener cuidado con el tiempo de espera aunque, no esperes para ir un viernes o sábado y salir en 20 minutos, tiempos de espera de una hora más son comunes. Mejor pedir con antelación por teléfono.
