Hoi Polloi in Hackney

Brilliant place. Interior is beautiful. Lighting and vibes is excellent. Food is small dishes and is on the expensive side, but they are delicious. It’s a brilliant place and can’t wait everytime

What an impeccably kind man Nordine is, helpful to a fault, patient and considerate of our needs as tourists. He was so kind and made our stay wonderful.

Excellent addition to the growing culinary heaven in East London. Every dish we had was superb. Only the patchy service stopped me giving it 5 stars.

Would love to have given one more star, but some of the food didn’t quite hit the mark. The snack starter were good ie cashew nut hummus was excellent. Unfortunately when bringing the mains the poor waitress got burnt from the boiling hot skillet type dish that contained cauliflower cheese, causing her to drop the lot. Both the manager and one of the girls serving us was extremely apologetic and did everything correct to right the situation. It was a complete accident and we were far more worried about the poor girl than the food on the floor. All food was remade fresh straight away.My steak was very good as was the cauliflower cheese and so was the sauté potatoes (but had to ask where they were, as they definitely forgot to reorder them). My husband had mac and cheese with short rib but it had too much gravy from the rib which spoiled the rest of the dish. My friends club sandwich looked very good and dripping chips were great. All desserts were good. Nice atmosphere there, I wish I could have just given that one more star. As the manager did everything he could to put things right and to me that showed excellent management.

Il menu sullo stile londinese, piatti non propriamente semplici e accompagnati da salse discutibili, nel complesso discreta la qualità, prezzo nella media (40€ circa con bevande, piatto principale e dolce)

My husbands stomping ground for work we spent the weekend in Shoreditch and went here for breakfast . I took the healthy granola option and it was amazing . Plenty of it and lovely fresh fruit on the top . Well worth a visit

We booked for NYE and it was an amazing experience! Amazing oyster, great selection of wine and champagne. The waiter Riccardo was very friendly and accommodating. We had a little chat in italian too :-) 5 stars!

Absoluut de moeite waard om te bezoeken. Omdat wij een makkelijke eerste avond in London wilden vanwege de reis met kinderen heb ik geboekt in dit restaurant. Onze verwachtingen waren misschien niet al te hoog maar we waren echt positief verrast. Lekkere kaart, mooie eenvoudige inrichting en vriendelijke bediening. Gerechten zijn om te delen en we startten met snacks. Lekker desembrood, humus, kroketten van pompoen. Daarna voor de kids Mac and Cheese, halve kip, sla, frites ( zgn dripped fries). Je kunt hier lekker op je gemak wat eten. We zagen ook mensen werkend achter hun laptop wat eten.

Delicious food, friendly service and smiles all around. Returned to Hoi Polloi after a while and I was pleasantly surprised to see most of the same faces. The manager recognised me from before and he dropped by to say hello. Duarte made us feel welcome and the waiter Ricardo took good care of us. Always good to be back in Hoi Polloi.

I visited Hoi Polloi for some drinks on my last night in London, the incredible bar tenders Chris and Fabio looked after me. The very friendly Irena was also very accommodating.

Really nice atmosphere outside in the beer garden. Came here with partner but could totally see a group enjoying some craft beers out back. Service was fantastic moved us from inside to outside in front of a fan to help combat to heat. Fish n chips was spot on.

Good restaurant, perfect for a friend gathering. Love the atmosphere! The food is great, and the menu changes frequently. Definitely recommend the chocolate fondant for dessert! Thanks to our waiter Benoit for this amazing experience!

We had a brunch for 12 today. The food was great but I'm motivated to write a review because of the staff, Ricardo and team were so efficient and attentive. Often when you eat out as a group it can take x 3 times as long to order, get drinks etc today was text book. We done.

Hoi Polloi is a cool retro/hipster place to eat with 70's retro design. So if your criteria for a good restaurant is a modern/updated flashing design, Hoi Polloi is not the place for you. We came for dinner and we were left with a big smile on our faces. The selection on the menu is nice, though it's definitely not one of these menus that take you hours to read, leaving you confused with endless options, and still - there's enough selection for everyone. The food was great, nice portions, well made. Hospitality was great and the staff was handy in recommending drinks. We really enjoyed our dinner. Thanks for the experience.

Had booked for an afternoon tea - it was a miserable Saturday afternoon in November and we arrived half an hour early (to get into the warm!). Our table was ready, so we were shown to it - but the afternoon tea was not available until the appointed time. Not really a problem for us.

Amazing food, and had lovely musicians playing. Gorgeous decor. Very friendly staff! Recommend the avocado corn bread dish

Enjoyed an excellent breakfast here whilst staying at The Ace. Great variety of breakfast menu, with all the usuals plus a few alternatives.

I was staying with my girlfriend at Ace Hotel on a Saturday night, so we've decided to have dinner at the hotel's restaurant.

2nd timing visiting and thought we would give it another go, unfortunately we had the same experience. Beautiful setting, amazing ambiance, staff were great but the food was just terrible and very expensive. Tasteless and poor quality.

Questo posto è inquietante: l'ingresso è attraverso un negozio di fiori (!?), all'interno domina un triste perlinato alle pareti che accoppiato ai sedili stile diner conferisce un'atmosfera non certo esaltante. Per quanto riguarda il cibo, nel complesso raggiunge la sufficienza; tempi di attesa nella norma; prezzo comunque decisamente elevato rispetto alla qualità e al servizio.

We found this restaurant online and decided to book last minute to have a place to eat with my parents visiting. The interior looks a bit empty and overall in my opinion it does not work, the vibe is more of a trendy restaurant which does not reflect in the ambience as it is done in a nineties train station style. We ordered chicken and we found it a bit dry and not particularly cheap. Anyway we needed a place where to eat urgently and it did the job

Whilst visiting The Ace Hotel we decided to make use of the on site restaurant and boy were we not disappointed!!

Hoi Polloi follows the coolness of its sister hotel, ACE. Had a delicious dinner in a great atmosphere, in a restaurant full of cool people.

Casi toda la comida estaba mal preparada, el plato estaba muy mal presentado y las porciones a menudo eran pequeñas. El servicio fue caótico y a menudo equivocado. Entrance hidden at the back of a beautiful florist store and Toto being played by a string quartet. Wow! Beautiful place, lovely atmosphere and delicious brunch.

I visited Hoi Polloi with a couple of friends to have some dinner on a Tuesday night and it was a great exerience! The place is quite big and looks very unique when it comes to decoration. The staff was very attentive and they helped us a lot with deciding what to order with their recommendations and the thorough descriptions of the various dishes. All our courses tasted delicious and screamed of good quality ingredients (especially the lamb which was cooked to perfection, very tender and flavourful). Definitely recommended if you happen to be in the area!

Yo estaba allí para el brunch. Recomendaría el decadente panqueque con chantilly de vainilla y arándanos, así como el Bloody Mary. El servicio fue bueno. Cambiar los ingredientes en uno de los platos no fue un problema en absoluto. En general, una agradable experiencia civilizada en una hermosa decoración.

No estuvo a la altura de su ubicación o menú prometedor! Huevos con pan tostado de masa fermentada: una pequeña pieza de pan amargo empapada, sin mantequilla y ligeramente sobre los huevos cocidos. El personal era bastante pasivo y no nos dejaba pagar el costo del servicio ya que el personal nos hizo sentir muy incómodos. ! No contento con nuestra experiencia y tantos otros lugares donde puedes ir.

Great brunch, friendly service, not the cheapest and at lunchtime on a Friday not the most exciting ambience but was the perfect spot for mates chatty gathering!

I really liked the feeling and ambience, different from what I&#039;m used to in busy London. This one was modern and with a bit of retro look which I loved. The mains were really good in taste and presentation but the confit salad left me wanting a bit more of taste. Oyster were good and cocktails great! <br />Overall, a good place to dine in London for a casual but great atmosphere and food with friends/bf! :)

Went with a group of friends on a Sunday evening - place was quite dim but very nicely decorated (you are greeted by a little garden upon stepping in). The food was decent - the outstanding dish had to be the kale salad (surprise!). I had the cod which was a very generous portion and well done - but nothing spectacular. One thing we realized was the alarming difficulty in getting the attention of the wait staff here despite the non-crowd! It would be much lovelier if the staff were more attentive to the patrons..<br />The place got a little more crowded later in the evening. Would probably come back here again for brunch on a weekend, where there is a live harpist.

Enter through a florist! (Or the hotel that houses the restaurant). A varied menu and a generous wine list in a casual setting. The food was well presented and cooked. Service was attentive and professional. It did not fall into the hotel trap of unadventurous &quot;international&quot; cuisine.<br /><br />We also lucked out as a string quartet played throughout our dinner, offering a beautiful selection of arrangements of popular music.<br /><br />It wasn&#039;t busy, so we were able to hold a good conversation too.<br /><br />We&#039;ll be back.

Their ribeye was one of the best steaks I&#039;ve ever had. Slightly crispy outside, surprisingly tender inside, juicy, perfect. Great sides too.

My daughter and I had a really lovely evening at Hoi Polloi. Although the restaurant was busy, the noise levels were not intrusive, just a buzz about the place. Both the service and the food were excellent. Happy to recommend and very happy to return.

Great food and ambience. Dog-friendly! The waitress serving us was not so friendly, unfortunately. She did not seem to want to be there and was not friendly. Would still go back for the string quartet, food and atmosphere though!

We had afternoon tea late in the afternoon and the restaurant was in the middle of preparations for the night. We were not informed of this in advance or we might have chosen to go somewhere else.<br /><br />This would have been fine except we were seated in the back of the restaurant where the waiters were having a meeting/were talking/laughing loudly etc. Of course the staff should be allowed to have fun but maybe not in front of the bar.<br /><br />The food was good, but the waiter seemed a bit tired or uninterested. She was nice though.

We were visiting Shoreditch to pop into Rough Trade for world record day and I had been to the Ace hotel years ago so decided to give this a go. We turned up 90 minutes early as we&#039;d finished but the staff were excellent and got us in. There was even an offer on at that time where you could get 3 courses for £25. The service was excellent and we had some great food and wine recommendations from our waiter and the quality of the food was outstanding. The restaurant had a really good, laidback ambience that I liked and the music really complimented the place. Great meal!!

The ambiance and the restaurant was lovely and really nice but the food was not very good. The pancakes were undercooked and the burger was extremely greasy.

The service is beyond terrible, the waiters are unable to fulfil your needs, forgetting everything you ask for, and incapable of clearing your plates. Seriously Shoreditch is full of restaurants, avoid this one. A sad reflection on its opening days....

I really liked the atmosphere and the food was great on my visit. But its disappointing and embarrassing when I took my living aboard relative there again. It took a long time for the service and the food wasn&#039;t as great.

If you have no dietry requirements like gluten free then your in for a treat. <br />I had champagne tea, it caters for veggies and pescatarian but not gluten free.<br />They did try to adapt it for my friend but the gluten free is not up to scratch.<br />Service was good, ambiance was good. <br />I&#039;d defo recommend if your not gluten free

Mother’s Day Sunday brunch (breakfast menu)<br /><br />Loved the live orchestra.<br /><br />Ordered pancakes, bacon &amp; maple syrup excellent quantity and quality.<br /><br />Also tasted ‘nduja omelette (same as above) and portobello mushroom with ricotta (not so much my thing and not as filling)<br /><br />Downside on food was burnt toast - just re-do it?<br /><br />Overall very good though and will come back again

Breakfast at Hoi Polloi was a very good experience. We very much enjoyed the food and the variety of options, though the coffee left something to be desired. The music was a bit noisy, but when the live music started, it was lovely. Our only complaint was that a few of our orders were seemingly forgotten, and we had to chase down the waitstaff to ask about them.

Great brunch at Hoi Polloi. Wonderful buzzy space, but never too noisy either. The string quartet playing pop tracks was a great touch, and added a real sense of occasion.

Brilliant restaurant. Very warm and classy interior setting yet relaxed and casual atmosphere. Beautiful and handsome waiting staff with second to none service. We very given amazing table with possibility to observe the entire room. We can not express appreciation your staff enough who were very atentive, professional and attention to details minded at all times. I had a well done steak which was absolutely wonderful - credit to the kitchen staff who made sure that our expectations were exceeded. Can’t beat the location of the restaurant and if you would like to continue your evening with some chic cocktails we highly recommend the bar at the same building where barmen takes that extra mile service and made a fantastic cocktail for me which wasn’t event on the menu. Beautiful people, fantastic music and venue. Our meeting was a great success - Thank you

Waiters mistook our orders and brought us plates with some ingredients missing. Food it’s not as good as the price would suggest. But the room is beautiful and so is the music.

Slightly pricey (£3.50 for a bottle of still water seems quite excessive!) but definitely a nice experience.

Great food and ambiance, faultless service. Hoi Polloi exceeded my expectations with a string quartet as entertainment on the Saturday afternoon. Prices were reasonable.

I come here often, usually as a treat or special occasion (eg mothers day etc) its so consistently good - the food is great, service is excellent but not pretentious, and the venue is lovely. Would always recommend.

It&#039;s a classy, vaguely masculine restaurant, which has the vibe of a old time New York hotel restaurant brought right up to date. I don&#039;t fling 5stars around but this place is very good for a meal when you&#039;re celebrating nothing more than a Friday. <br />It&#039;s not a fiddly menu but brilliantly put together. <br />The staff make you feel right at home.

We had a delicious brunch. The place is trendy, although a bit cold. Sadly the day was grey which doesn&#039;t help with the atmosphere. The food was delicious. We had corn cakes and eggs, Spicy but delicious. Pancakes. French toast and normal scrambled eggs. All perfect and delicious. The orange juice was fresh, of course.<br />We did say we were celebrating a birthday (since the question was prompted on the web site) but nothing was said or done

This is the second time i&#039;ve been, the first time was for brunch. Unfortunately, on this occasion we had to send our steak back twice. It was cold when served, and then they took it back and reheated it - but it was still cold - and as both myself and my friend had the same thing they weren&#039;t too sure who&#039;s was who&#039;s when they returned to our table. Then they brought a fresh one and it was still cold which is bizarre if it had just been made?<br /><br />The first waiter didn&#039;t seem too fussed about the issue, but the next one was much better and said that our steak&#039;s would not be charged and dessert would be on the house. It&#039;s a shame as the ambiance of the restaurant is lovely.

Despite the hidden nature of the entrance (we went through he hotel but could have come through the flower shop on the street if there was better signage), we thoroughly enjoyed the food and the environment. This was perfect for a lazy breakfast, and many people were there for meetings, which it is ideal for.

The staff were very sour faced and unhelpful. We didn’t receive exactly what we ordered and then were charged still and had to ask that the food that didn’t turn up was removed from the bill. The food was very standard, nothing special. Cocktails were good, and the decor and ambiance was nice. Just let down by the service.

Very welcoming atmosphere. It feels exclusive (live music, seems spacious), but at the same time down to earth (excellent food for a fair price, approachable waiters).
