Just what you want, nice welcome and farewells, eat-in, all freshly cooked, the cod was so good, large generous portion. And decent sauces, included in the price.

30 seat restaurant friendly family run superb food and value we have Been coming here for 60 years NEVER disappointed real gem (restaurant open until 9pm ) also takeaway and delivery also very good there's not many places like this left these days where you can travel back in time for genuine traditional cosy experience (Tip try tartare sauce mixed salad perfect compliment)

Had a tasty fish & chip tea tonight. Fish was perfect with lovely crisp batter. Only downside was it was freezing in the restaurant. We had to keep our coats on!❄️

Normally i enjoy the fish and chips from hodsons and look forward to it and tonights experience is really really out of character for them but the meal i just had from them was awful, the chips tasted cold and undercooked and the curry sauce which is normally thick and full of flavour was so watery it had no flavour and made the chips so soggy it looked, felt and tasted like they had dropped them into a sink of washing up water although that might of tasted better and when i tried to ring to complain no one would answer the phone. Im sorry hodsons you have let me down and put me off even considering ordering from you again which is bitterly disappointing.

Curry sauce watery thin. Asked if I could pay cash! Yet another chippy looking to have a tax loop!! Oh yeah Chips ok. Used to be a great chippy, the change of ownership is not for the better. Ladies behind the counter friendly enough tho

..... then this place isn't for you. I was craving chip shop chips so popped in around 5:20 after work. Absolutely empty - that was perhaps my first mistake... I've seen them cueing out the door at other chippies in the town. The service was excellent I must say - as the only customer in there - I was given full attention. Seeing what I thought was an appealing selection of freshly fried food in the cabinet I opted for battered sausage & chips. Thankfully I didn't fall for the 'medium or large' chip offer - and stayed medium. £4.80 was reasonable, until I was told they don't accept card, unless over £10! Seriously? I nearly walked out - but my months of craving overtook me. The chips - I have to say were reasonable. Reasonable portion and a reasonable lukewarm heat. Both would have been better if there was more of it!! The sausage. Well. I think it was left over from last night and possibly microwaved and put in the heat cabinet. The batter was chewy & cold. No where near hot and crispy like you'd expect. Most of that went in the bin. Must admit - this place is getting a reputation for being substandard and I was warned against it.... belly before judgement in my case and will avoid in the future.

We buy from here EVERY week, this week it had increased by OVER £3.00! Also when it did arrive the delivery driver gave a completely different price to the one I was given on the phone. We used to order from Rumbles in Godmanchester but since they've re opened for refurbishment they no longer deliver. I understand prices are going up but this is disproportionate to what is acceptable and they have now lost our business. I would rather choose a different Fish & Chip shop of even go to a different take away, Chinese, curry etc. They have priced themselves out.

I have had mixed experiences at this place, I have ordered twice though online with Verny different experiences, the first the food turned up stone cold after the delivery driver sat outside for 20 minutes before knocking on the door (I didn’t realise it was the delivery whilst they were outside at the time) I was not impressed! We gave them another chance and the second time and most recent time the food was hot and delicious.

As a honest review I’d say yeah the food is good, but unfortunately the focus in this place is phone orders or Uber eats/just eat, as a walk in waiting for chips 25mins was unacceptable, I had to “remind “ that I was waiting for chips, pre that many orders went out for Uber/just eat. So if you want a walk inbe prepared to be back of the Q to Uber.

Haven't used this chippy for a while but noticed they had a new on line ordering thing away from Just Eat. Ordered fish and chips and a few other bits. When it arrived the fish was more batter than fish, and I think they went the long way round as it was stone cold. 20 Mins in the oven to reheat it all. Fish was OK but the chips were tasteless, Ive heard they have new owners, it used to be a great chip.

Can honestly say best chip shop I have used in a long time apart from my regular in Brum Batter on fish well nice fish top range can't fault the place staff very friendly

Just had 2 medium cod and 1 large chips. It was lovely. Arrived very quickly. It was very hot . Tasted good and was very fresh. It was delivered to home. Great service.

Thought we would give Hodsons a go after the queue for our local favourite chippy was huge. We walked straight in a Friday tea time when most others would be heaving .. this should have set alarm bells ringing!. We ordered 2 cod and chips and couldn’t wait to get home to try them. Oh my goodness the smell when we opened the box was awful.. clearly old fish, when we cut into it the fish it was grey, stale and smelt rotten.it had clearly been refried a few times and certainly was not fresh. The chips were tough and had also been refried. Spent most of the morning on the loo after only having a couple of mouthfuls and throwing it away. Sadly we won’t be returning.

Unfortunately I've had to change my review which I gave over 8 months ago! I would NOT order the 'Wholetail Breaded Scampi' because what I received for £5 I feel was awful. The contents of the 'Wholetail Scampi' delivered to me was a Sponge-like Reformed Paste which I felt was flavourless. I did NOT eat them and phoned the shop to ask for a refund BUT I was refused. I've had Wholetail Scampi plenty of times from other places like Wetherspoons and Hartford Mill at a lower cost, and these were proper whole pieces of scampi tails and not REFORMED and tasted great. It's such a shame as we are a family of 5 and often order from Hodsons with a big order. I DO NOT feel it's acceptable to pay 50p per 'scampi' when I received REFORMED scampi!

Ordered online to get delivery 45minutes late (that I paid for nevertheless) Rang when 20minutes late to be told just leaving now Food had not arrived a full 60 minutes later The shop put the phone down when I rang to ask for update, they hung up on us. Disgustingly rude, awful company. We were waiting for a meal for a child that had to eat toast and go to bed before the food was even delivered And the order was not delivered properly it was missing an item

I pulled in outside at approx 12.30 today. Was surprised to find an empty shop and restaurant - no customers. Ordered cod and chips and was told it would be freshly cooked and brought out to the car where my wife was. Fish dry and batter very greasy and over cooked. Took it home. Ate a small amout - put the rest out for the birds and animals. Definitely not good value at £13.50. J and G Sheppard.

Found this place by chance, chips ok, but Star of the show, the fish cooker perfectly and bright white and fresh ! Never had better!

Had a delivery this evening and not at all happy. The driver called me as he could not find us and asked for our address. Said that was strange as it was the one he said he had. Told him there was no sign of anyone in the road and with that he just terminated the call!He turned up a few mins later and said he had been in the wrong road as had not looses at his navigation.Having begun to eat found chips pretty much cold and the fish Luke warm at best.the only thing at a decent temp were the mushy peas. Also realised the drink that had been ordered was not delivered.I have been trying to telephone them but the number on the electronic receipt and every web reference gives a reply that the number is disconnected or not in use.Beware....

ordered meals to be delivered as I am one of those that cannot leave home for 12 weeks due to Coronavirus. The food was 40minutes late and on arrival was completely cold. It looked especially the chips, like old ones. completely inedible and that was all of the meal, not just parts. phoned the restaurant on advise of just eat. Hodsons refused to tag the meal which meant i could not get a refund. Just eat tried to help even 24 hours later, but hodsons would not tag the meal. just eat advised i should leave a review to highlight my problem.

Its fish and chips...British fish and chips so the fish can be a bit of a miss at times.Otherwise its ok for a cheeky fish and chip supper. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit (but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit pretty much every chippy in the UK anyway) but its ok for what it offers.

Superb Fish and Chips, best in the area in my honest opinion, other one on the opposite side of the high street cannot come in close. Food always lovely, fish is perfectly fresh. Cannot rate highly enough. 1 minor gripe is perhaps the interior could be updated if eating in.

Great food this evening. Very fast delivery and very friendly delivery man. Lovely fresh chips...crisp on the outside and soft in the middle. This is my fave local fish and chip shop. 😊

We have been using this establishment for years after discovering the food is much fresher and appealing compared to the alternative at the other end of the high street.There is usually a wait for your food to be freshly cooked rather than being kept warm for who knows how long at the other place.Staff are friendly and the shop is good and clean.The food has always been delicious and we have never had a meal from here that has not been excellent and so we always recommend it to others

Excellent Gluten Free Fish & Chips in a Monday. Staff are very clued up on the cross contamination risk. It has got to a point they know with our order to ask "Cod, or Haddock, tonight?".

My husband and i were asked to grab some fish and chips on the way to his Mum and Dad's, and the only chippy in the area my hubby knew of was Hodsons from years ago. There was free parking right outside which was a bonus. We were warmly welcomed, and served straight away. There is a seating area at the back which was welcomed by a few locals who were still socialising which was nice to see. The place is a little run down visually, but clean. Turns out this place is a little gem. We waited a while for our 4x small cod and chips to be cooked, but they were cooked from fresh and we could certainly tell. The cod was so thick and white, and the batter not too thick or overdone. The whole meal was cooked to perfection. Great to see that all materials used in the packaging was biodegradable too. No polistirene or plastic here. Great value. Well done Hodsons, we'll be back

this is most definitely the best chip shop in town excellent food large portions friendly staff food is cooked fresh there is also a large seating area to eat in. if you don’t want to wait telephone your order in and pick it up when it’s cooked. There is also a delivery service available I would definitely reccomend as a chippy worth trying far superior to the other end of the high street

We had a meal here last night, and it was brilliant. It’s a standard fish and chip shop, with a bloody legend in the kitchen. The portions are generous, the quality was great, and the service was attentive. We couldn’t have asked for more.

We ate in after a tiring day out. Pleasant staff with good service. Haddock was great. As pensioners we were served with an excellent value meal with a cup of tea. We were able to park on the road close by.

Very honest, good food. Fair price. The fish is lovely, as are the chips. We don’t go anywhere else.

This fish and chips take away is the best one I have ever had and to top it off it has a gluten free option for me which is scrumptious. My boyfriend can vouch for the fun full option too! 100% recommend!

Took my mum here for lunch and was surprised to be the only people in the restaurant. We were greeted by a very friendly female member of staff who took our order and made us feel very comfortable. Our food was freshly cooked and delicious. I'd forgotten what a lovely, simple treat fish and chips were as well as being fantastic value. This could become a regular lunch venue for us.

A rare treat of properly done gluten free fish and chips. All freshly cooked. Couldn’t find at first so rang them for directions. They actually came and met us and walked with us to the restaurant. Couldn’t fault it at all. Thankyou. Highly recommended.

I eat here once or twice a month for years, and have always had a good fish n chips. I would suggest the salt and pepper squid it is very nice. Friendly bunch of people here too.

When you fancy fish and chips in Huntingdon, then I truly recommend this place. I had a large fish and chips, mushy peas. value for money and a great taste.

me and my husband went here last night as we was told it was nice but we will never go back as the fish was horrible and soggy and the chips were hard and brown not fresh will never be going again

By far the best in town, cooked fresh and not greasy. Unlike other emporiums in town. Always good quality, other places may be slightly cheaper, but you can really taste the difference.

The first thing I noticed was the severe lack of customers at 6pm on a Wednesday, there were two, and the second was that there was nothing other than pies on display, no fish at all, very strange for a fish and chip shop.

Good food, rude staff, I don't mind waiting for freshly cooked food, but when the staff are cold and rude then it makes you wonder if it's worth it

Tenemos un equipo de pescado y patatas fritas de Navidad anual comida de medio día en este bar de pescado. Esta vez era para 14 personas. Siempre me libro ya que el restaurante puede estar ocupado. El personal siempre las mesas con galletas navideñas, sombreros, etc, y son muy acogedores. El pescado es cocinado cuando pedimos así tienes ninguno de su basura como en seco en algunas otras localidades. Altamente recomendado.

Love Hodson's. The fish and chips are great. If you need a quick snack grab some chips. If you want a meal then stay and eat in the restaurant attached.

Food is always great, lovely chatty staff when they're not swept off their feet with customers. Good eat in or takeaway service.

Please note, I have only ever had takeaway fish and chips from Hodon and have not eaten in, even though they do offer it.Hodson Fish and Chips has been about in Huntingdon for many years (For context I have lived in the area between 1995 and 2001, returning in 2013) the fish and chips was very good then, and is just as good now. The main difference for me is I am now wheat/gluten free. Hodson's do gluten free fish and chips on a Monday, and they are by far the best my mother and I have found (We're both gluten free, and whenever she's round mine on a Monday we always get gluten free fish and chips from Hodson).The batter is light and crispy, without being too greasy. The portions are generous, and reasonably priced. They even do an OAP sized portion/price deal, for those with smaller appetites. It works out as (approximately) "free" small chips.I thoroughly recommend Hodson for anyone after fish and chips in Huntingdon

My family used to come when I was a child, just as good as I remember, if not better. Light batter, not to greasy. Perfect chips, most under cook them, not here!!! Thanks ladies!

Good, old fashioned fish and chips, eat in or take away and parking, it just doesn't get any better.

Despite changing their manager a few times we have continued to use Hodson's as caterers for our fund-raising evenings at our local school. They deliver on time and although we always give them an estimate of numbers the day before we regularly increase the order and they deliver within 3/4 hour. Their fish is particularly good - fresh and moist in a good batter. If you're holding an event and want quick, fresh food I'd recommend them.

I've eaten here many times over many years. However my last visit ( last week ) was bitterly disappointing. Ordered the "Special" from the lady at the counter, and whilst the order was taken promptly, their seemed to be little interest in progressing the order. Staff were chatting to each other, one on a mobile, the other on the restaurants phone, I ordered a bap / roll with the special, and when my food eventually turned up I had one slice of bread, with huge lumps of margarine on and no Tea. I'd actually almost finished when the penny dropped that I'd not received a drink, to which a half hearted attempt to recover the situation was attempted. To Sum up - Soggy batter, Missing roll, Missing Tea a complete lack of appreciation that when you pay to eat in a restaurant you are paying and EXPECTING the service associated with the price. I'm not a harsh reviewer, but this experience near mirrors my previous experience ( which I did not review ) So theirs a trend developing. Their going to have to significantly up their game to stay in business. Such a Shame. Gone down hill in the last few years.

Love fish and chips from here and they do gluten free on a Monday. Staff always very friendly and welcoming and were very helpful in turning on the fryers early when we wanted fish and chips for a meal after our fathers funeral. Cooked and delivered 45 portions. Great service, superb fish and chips.

We have used this fish shop before some time ago and have always enjoyed the food. It is not a fancy place but the staff are friendly and the fish and chips was excellent. We had bread and butter and tea and this was all for a reasonable price.

Hodsons have started offering Gluten Free Fish& Chips again. At the moment, only on a Monday 5pm to 10pm, but it is a start.Tried them last night, and very good they were too.

Used to be a great restaurant and takeaway till it was taken over. Now it is managed by idiots and this is reflected by the fact that the staff don't care about customers and spend more time messing about. Food is average at best...I never recommend this place to anyone now...my advice is to go elsewhere.

I went in to get a meal for myself, I had some time before I had to be somewhere so I though yeah, I'll eat in. The prices on the board were quite decent so I ordered a chicken burger, SMALL portion of chips and a drink. When I heard the amount I thought WOW bit expensive! But I didn't want to cause a fuss in front of other customers so when I got my meal, I asked if I was charged correctly. Yes I had but it's because I was in the restaurant. To be honest I said it was a little bit much! The burger was okay, too much bun and not enough burger and the chips were okay, not the best. I left feeling a bit out of pocket and gutted. I will come again, but not to eat in as I feel it is too expensive and the atmosphere wasn't great. The staff were very friendly and happy though so well done to you guys for working hard!

We used Hodson's to cater for an evening function at our Primary School. Fabian was so pleasant, caring and accommodating - offering us very competitive prices and throwing in sauces and even cutlery for no extra charge, We gave him the final numbers at 7.30 and by 8.30 the meals were all delivered, hot and tasty. Everybody thoroughly enjoyed their food and there was no washing up!! We have vowed to use them again. Thanks you to Fabian and his staff.

As fish and chips go this has to be one of the best around. New manager I think, and he certainly seems to know what hes doing. Will definitely be going back there again. Its a must try.

I have used Hodson's Fish bar for a number of years, but have been away for a year or so. On returning I found that the food has gone downhill from its previous standards.

Good value for money food and wonderful staff. You are not kept waiting too long no matter how busy they are.

My boyfriend and I often pop in from time to time. Have had perfect food every time - wouldn't dream of going anywhere else to get my fix of battered sausages, chips and curry sauce!

Batter is light and crispy fish cooked to a tee, chips crispy on the outside and soft insideStaff are very attentive and pleased to serve youAs an alternative healthy eat they offer grilled fish and it is a must try, takes a while but quality always takes time.

Picked wife up from station decided on Pie and chip supper on way home arrived 18:30pm woman server very curt and had only 1 Pie available and informed would take 1hr to cook second pie!!?? Will not be going there again.

Always fresh, ever so tasty and friendly staff. The squid is a particular treat, but always soft. It's always busy in there - never a bad sign! We love it!

Food here is bloomin gorgeous though rather on the VERY expensive side, Ive never had such expensive fish and chips, that said, you know your getting a good dinner. As good as up North which is unheard of!

The generous serving of breaded Haddock was tasty and NOT greasy, the "chips" were generous hot and delicious, this unpretentious little place had tables to sit on and the people who worked there were friendly and polite. This "Yank" loves Hodson's Fish and Chips!

Really loved the food, proper fish and chip shop just like it should be, nice clean hot food, very tasty indeed. Take out was brilliant, lots of food. We did eat inside once too, it was a little cold inside as they had no heating on but that did not spoil the fantastic food. Definitely recommended.

You can eat in or take away here and it's always nice and fresh.The restaurant is nothing fancy but it's clean and tidy and like a fish and chip shop restaurant should be. There's a few tables that seat 4 with fixed seating with salt, pepper, vinegar and bottles of sauce on the table. You order from the till and then they bring your food to you at your table. There are toilets for customers use but parking is limited outside. We tend to visit when shopping in town and just walk there as it's only a couple of minutes walk from Huntingdon town centre.I've always enjoyed the food, the fish is thick and tasty and the chips are hot and tasty. Would definitely recommend.

If you are looking for good quality this serves it up without the frills. Staff helpful and service is efficient.

A proper, old-school chippy. When we first moved here, we heard good things about Barney's Plaice and trekked across town, but this is a step above, really fresh, crispy chips & batter. To be honest, it's just a chippy, so I wouldn't usually give it 4/5, but I've already given Barney's Plaice 3, and this is definately better!

Have been attending this chippie for years. Had piece of plaice last week and I have to say it was the best I've ever eaten! Really fresh, and the batter was very light. The only draw back is that more often than not, you have to wait for what you want to be cooked. They never seem to have enough of anything that is 'ready to go', but if you don't mind waiting, then would highly recommend the food.....delish!

Popped in here for a quick dinner. The food was nice and fresh. As per the other other comments there is a dining area though it's far from the best I have ever eaten in at.

The actual fish and chips here are fine. I'm not some f&c expert but the ones I've had have always been freshly cooked and hot with decent batter. But its a pale memory from what this place used to be like and others are catching up. Its welcome there is an eat in area within a town that fares poorly for eat in options but expect very very basic area only albeit clean & tidy and again to be fair good price. Its not a bad place to go but shows what little choice there is that this place is even on T.A. listings for Huntingdon.

Hodson's may not offer much atmosphere, but if you want hot, fresh fish at an affordable price, this is your place! The glass store front is inviting, and cooking is done in the front. Your fish can be cooked to order and you have to option of heavy or lighter batter. This guarantees your food will be fresh and piping hot. The dining area is basic, but clean and warm. There's a modest charge of 55p for dining in. Hodson's is among the best when it comes to fish and chips. We've ordered fish and chips at several pubs and in Tesco's cafeteria, and Hodson's wins hands down!

On my visit I only had takeaway, but wow really nice Fish and Chips. Would highly recommend
