Hobson`s Fish & Chips Soho in City of London, Westminster

Great food, amazing hospitality and very friendly and helpful staff. They let us put three tables together outside since we were 6 people and also let us consume some food from outside because our little son doesn't eat fried dishes. Best vegan fish and chips I've ever had in all London, and my mother, (Australian living in Italy for 35 years) said she had the beat cod fish and chips since she was a little girl. I really recommend it as a stop for who wants to try fish and chips for the first time, for who wants to eat some quality fish or for who wants to adventure in trying some vegan fish dish.

We waited for about 30 minutes outside in the cold for a table, as the restaurant had a line. Once inside, we were warmly greeted at the door and promptly seated. We ordered three different types of fish with chips, as well as a side of onion rings. The wait time was reasonable, and everything arrived hot and fresh. The aroma was amazing, and my dish, featuring cod, was very tasty. The accompanying mayonnaise sauce was absolutely extraordinary—it complemented the dishes perfectly! Unfortunately, we found the food too oily for our liking, which left us feeling a bit heavy and with indigestion after the meal. The chips were very good, and the fish itself was fresh and flavorful, but the batter retained too much oil, making the dish feel overly greasy. The onion rings were also extremely oily—so much so that we couldn’t eat them. We ended up removing the batter and eating only the fish. The service, however, was excellent. The staff were kind, attentive, and helpful throughout our visit. Overall, it was a decent experience. The flavor and service were great, and the mayonnaise sauce stood out as a highlight, but we believe there’s room for improvement in reducing the oiliness of the food.

We came 55 minutes before closing. We ordered at 10:10pm and they close at 11pm. They kicked us out of the restaurant to wait for our to-go order (there was nearly no room to wait near at the front). We kindly made it clear that we had already ordered and were only waiting for our food and that we’d leave as soon as we received it. We were not allowed to sit at a table and were forced to await our food in the cold. They also did not tell us when our food was ready so we waited for 35 minutes to get our food. Poor customer service.

We had a great time, and we ate very well. ++++ to the servers who were great with the children. Negative points: the fries were not super cooked, and a little big. There is also no space for changing babies.

Nothing to complain about the cuisine, very good and well served, we ate fish and chips and the other dishes were tempting. However, to hope to have a place you have to get up early, long waiting times before being seated, with waiters who ignore the waiting customers, and set up larger tables even if you have to go outside to get them. In addition, we paid much more than registered on the card (abuse of tourists?)

I said to try the well-known fish and chips that is so popular that it is something wow and the low expectations I had were verified. First of all, I chose cod (Greek cod), first time I heard it as fish, with fried potatoes. The portion for the price (£17.95) too small, the batter tasty, the fries seemed too standard to me and the sos tartar indifferent. At the takeaway there was a huge queue because most people didn't book a table while inside it was relatively normal. I don't know if what I tried was a representative sample of fish and chips, but I can say that it was in no way worth the money. Our own garlic cod that we eat once a year is superior!!!🇬🇷🇬🇷

Traditional tourist attractions food- fish and chips, but the quality is high, service quick and even with baby stroller they find a place for us , salads, starters and fish very fresh and tasty

One of the best fish & chips you can eat in London 👌🏻 You should not be on a hurry though cause you have to queue at least for good 30 mns. But it's worth it 😉

A great dinner! We wandered around for a long time before discovering this restaurant where we were very well received. Everything is good: from the traditional fish and chips with cod to the more original fish and chips with plaice, without bones and with crispy skin. For dessert we tried the Mars bar fried in breading... Very nourishing!! All at an affordable price for London. A real discovery. We will come back!

The Fish Rico, the potatoes a little soggy, not at all crunchy, they seemed reheated. The feta cheese salad, very delicious! We ordered dessert and coffee but they told us that the machine was no longer operational…

Ordered fish and chips for 5 people in the office as a pre-Christmas treat. When the food arrived, there were only 4 boxes. An extra portion of chips was missing. We phoned the restaurant and they were extremely unhelpful, and said they would not deliver the missing chips. They then said we should get the refund from Uber Eats. So one person missed out on their chips as clearly someone wasn't paying attention to the order. To add to this, the size of the fish was very, very small. One person had plaice, which is usually a large fish when ordered locally, but it looked like they fried half a plaice but charged for a whole one! The cod wasn't much better. Overall, the food tasted nice, but extremely disappointed with the restaurants attitude and small portions. I understand we are in central London but quality and quantity should be most important and reign supreme over money (total was just over £80).

Deepthi provided wonderful, friendly service. The haddock and plaice fish and chips were exceptional.

Excellent fish and chips. A large selection of different fish. The fish is fresh and tender surrounded by a perfectly crispy breading. A downside on the reception of the waitresses at the end of service. Fortunately, a young waiter and jovial cook raised the bar at the end of the meal.

You can't compare it to borscht, but it was very tasty and good service🤍☺️

We ordered the fish (cod) and chips, along with sweet potato and the salad with feta cheese. The fish was very well coated and had very good flavor. I would highlight that the sweet potatoes were served semi-calcined (as seen in the photo) and the potatoes were very soft. The salad, although it was delicious, had pepper and cucumber and both were somewhat soft (not very crunchy). The atmosphere is reduced. Friendly staff, they serve very quickly.

Very poorly managed waiting times and reservations

Food was a 3/5 to a British born person, more like 5/5 to a tourist with low standards for Fish and Chips. Service was brilliant, but chips are a let down. Side salad portion was a sick joke. I would rather none at that portion size. Black mould around lid of tap water too, not good.

Good food and good customer service. We walked up to the counter and had rhe option of take away or dine in, (takeaway prices are a little cheaper). We decided to dine in and food came out pretty quickly, tasted great and service was prompt.

Great fish restaurant in London not far from Hyde Park, the fish is not overly breaded and tastes so pleasant and relatively light. Fries with vinegar round off the meal. Nicely decorated inside, it's more than just a snack bar. Prices for London in the normal range.

Easy reservation, fresh fish, and great service. The batter was perfect!

On reflection, it seems that the further you get seated from the windows the smaller your fish will likely be at this odd place with management straight out of the Fawlty Towers playbook. Two friends and I were seated at the back, well out of sight, and the fish delivered was what other cafes might call "cod" or "haddock bites" not the fillet we had ordered. At about twice the price of Wetherspoon's in nearby Charing Cross Road, it was probably less than HALF THE SIZE. The mushy peas were spherical, (i.e. barely mushy at all), and practically inedible due to some odd chemical aftertaste. We had all gingerly sampled them as they looked so odd and our tiny fish was at this point untouched. Embarrassed, for we felt this was not her first complaint that sitting, the charming waitress fetched the manager for us who was instantly hostile, combative and rude. Whereas a better venue might have offered to change the three pea portions instantly and add to the fish, he decided to tell us we knew nothing about how such a (commonplace) dish should taste as if we were discussing the concoction of a delicate truffle souffle instead of chucking some bicarbonate of soda on a few peas the day before. Then we mentioned the fish's size and the real risk of an aneurysm hinted at his bulging temple veins. With no solution or replacement offered, (we'd have taken beans and a few scampi or something) I said I would review his service online, whereupon he flew into a rage and THREW US OUT. Anyway here I am doing just that review; starving as I was I grabbed my fish in front of him and got two bites rising from the table, so tiny was it, that there was only one bite left and he screamed, without any sense of irony, that I'd practically finished the fish and his food couldn't be that bad as I'd nearly consumed it all. We're three London residents and not kids, (with a collective age of over 170 years) we eat out a lot and were able to all agree that this was our worst dining experience ever. It may have been an off day (our guess was the peas needed soaking for another six hours and someone had forgotten to do it in an earlier shift) and to be fair, we didn't part with a penny and I submit this honest review, not out of vindictiveness but as a learning experience for the cafe. (And because I said I would). See for yourself if the fish served at the windows is representative across the room. I doubt it but if so, put up a great review. For me though never again would be too soon.

We managed to skip the queue on Saturday, unfortunately we didn't have a reservation, but as the waiter said - it's your lucky day :) and as a result we got a table. The fish was delicious, tasted like a cloud - it was delicate, large and crispy. The fries were a bit weak because they were soft and not very edible. However, the whole thing was very good in terms of price and taste, so I can recommend it :) They add 10% service fee to the entire bill.

Lovely restaurant with great gluten free options! Service was great and quick and I felt very safe with the gluten free options. The gluten free plaice and chips were delicious and the gluten free desserts looked delicious as well. Highly recommend visiting and making a reservation if you plan to go at dinner time just in case!

Fish and chips were extremely oily and even made me sick afterwards. Even the smell of oil made me nauseous for 2-3 weeks. It's narrow inside and always crowded, it doesn't feel overly comfortable, we didn't like it compared to other branches.

I’m not English and I have never been a Fish and Chips’ fan due to previous bad experiences. This was probably the fifth place I have tried a fish and chips and the best I have ever tried ever. Fortunately, we booked in advance so we didn’t have to wait since there were a queue outside waiting for a table. The place is very small and it’s a bit difficult to get inside trying to sort all the people waiting inside to be seated. However, after sorted this situation everything looks organised and you don’t need to wait longer to be attended. Before having the fish and chips, we had battered onion rings, battered halloumi and home made fish cake, beers and some lemonades; everything on point. On the other hand, I'm not giving 5 stars for the service for one reason; we got the bill and the waitress stood next to me waiting to be paid just a few minutes after finishing our meal even without asking for that; that felt very weird and even one of the people who was having the dinner with me was surprised to see her looking at us with the payment PED in her hands without saying a word. I know this is a extremely busy and small place and they tried to do everything to have as much customers as possible but maybe the communication needs to be improved and let the people know we are going to receive the bill before asking for them since I felt I was encouraged to leave the place when this is not part of the British culture and it's a bit ironic when you go somewhere to eat a traditional British dish. However, we enjoyed the meal and I would like to come back in the future but probably not in a dinner or lunch time.

I highly recommend booking a table the day before (they don't accept reservations for the same day), not knowing we queued for an hour and a quarter. We were quite satisfied, we don't think there is anything better. We took Cod and chips, I recommend replacing the normal chips with Sweet potatoes, much tastier and crunchier. The classics were a little soft. The onion rings are also good. Fairly good value for money.

Unfortunately the service was slow. It took forever to get our food and then half of it was wrong. The food was so-so - the fish wasn't crispy and the fries were mushy soft. All in all, not a recommendation.

I had their plaice and chips, the chips could have been a touch crunchier and the fish seasoned better, but overall a decent option for fish and chips in Zone 1. Staff are very nice but the place needs some ventilation as other people have mentioned.

We had some good Fish&Chips there.

The waitress misunderstood our order and we therefore got a fried fish and a fried fish. When we pointed out that we got the wrong order, she said she couldn't do anything about it, and that the chef had told her she couldn't replace the wrong food. The fried fish was good but due to the lack of courtesy from the waitress we will not be going here again.

The gluten free fish and chips, as well as the onion rings and other fried treats, were genuinely magical. I went with someone who does eat gluten, and they loved their food as well. It is crowded and there does tend to be a wait, but it’s worth it!

It was great but the grilled fish is not that tasty, I don't recommend eating the part that touches the grill. It seems to me that they don't clean it so it's really disgusting. The chips are very tasty and the tuna fish as well. I didn't try the other fish. There is no air in the place

It's so delicious that it's worth the wait. Even my 7 year old daughter finished her entire plate 😄 the service quality and speed was also very good. The price is quite reasonable when we compare it not to Turkey but to London in general. It was pretty light for a fried fish.
