Hobson`s Fish & Chips Soho in City of London, Westminster

We happened to be around this area for dinner and we decided to try fish and chips. The food wasn’t that bad but it wasn’t the best either… also they were apparently closing and it almost looked like they were waiting for us to leave, but why serve us if you know you’ll close shortly after? Besides this the overall experience was ok

Portions were very large and filling. We chose to try the cod and gilded halibut. There are not many options anyway, but we liked both of them very much. There is a long queue after 6pm. They do not accept reservations. But it was worth the wait. They have their own beer. I think you should not buy it because it had no taste and was very light. We paid £25 as price.

Obviously it’s a nice place to try fish and chips. We had cod, it was fresh and the accompaniments were all good. Giving a 4 star only cos the tables are very close together, and it’s a bit uncomfortable. it’s a place I will recommend.

Food was good but the service has made me never want to return. I arrived 45 minutes prior to closing and was told I could only order takeaway. I ordered, paid and then told I had to wait outside. I’m 66 years old. I didn’t appreciate that. When I retrieved my food it was put into a container that didn’t retain the heat. They didn’t give utensils and neglected to include my drink. The food was good but the service sucked.

An essential address for the essential Fish & Chips! Excellent address, quality products, but be careful, be patient there are often queues but that is, let's say, the price of success.

Reservations are recommended, the food is delicious. Service is very kind and helpful.

We only wanted to eat fish and chips once and decided on Hobson's. Right choice! Very tasty fish dishes, large portions, cool shop. A little little space or a little tight, but nice.

Really wanted to try a Chip Butty before leaving the United Kingdom. Came here at 10:15 pm, 45 minutes before closing. Went to the takeway side, ordered the Chip Butty and Curry Sauce. Very easy to order and food came out quickly. Everything was good, bread was nice and buttered. The chips were plentiful. The employees were chill as well. Would like to try the fish in the future, probably really nice.

The place is small but the staff is friendly and understanding and the food is delicious. I recommend it.

The restaurant charged a bill that was exactly twice the correct amount. I noticed this thanks to the notification of the transaction on my phone, which I received while we were already gone. We had to come back to the restaurant - they refund me the amount payed (which is still in transit) and make me pay again the right amount. "this can happen" is everything they had to say, with a strange calm. If I had been in them, I would have offered dinner or a discount. That's not acceptable

I'm visiting from Sacramento, California and wanted to get some traditional British food. The fish & chips did not disappoint. Delicious!!!!

You should definitely try Fish&Chips here. I loved the taste and everyone was very interested. It's a place you should definitely try. It was very delicious. Especially Ms. Deniz was very attentive.

This place was on my itinerary to try and was not disappointed. The cod had a lovely crunch and was tasty...I loved the curry sauce. We dont do that in Australia but wish we did now. Atmosphere was good. Soho seemed like a happening place. Will come back next time Im in London.

The fish and chips were yummy, but tasted like many others I had. The portion size was great. Finally, the salad was refreshing and surprising! It was tasty and it had a nice spicy kick to it!

Great fish and chips! Queued for about 15mins in the afternoon on a weekend, not so long. Fish was fresh and juicy! 👍🏻 (The special salad was not so special after all. I don’t recommend it.)

Incredible fish and chips. Both COD and HADDOCK are super tender and crunchy. A little oily but very rich. The onion rings are very good. The regular potatoes. All the waiters were very attentive, especially Jay. Be careful there is only fish, salads and accompaniments.

A corner of Soho you'll want to return to again and again. The best gluten-free fried fish of my life. The fried onion rings, also gluten-free, were special too. The price is absolutely worth the quality of the food. Advise!

Grew up in New England so I know fresh fish...Hobson's had that and in a spotlessly clean restaurant with friendly staff and very reasonable prices

The medium chip portion you get now was the large portion last year. I am a regular so when I asked about the change in portion size they denied it. Foods nice, can be quite oily at times and generous with the sauce but not worth the money anymore. The shops always busy with tourists. There’s a massive line that sometimes goes around the corner. It’s a cramped spot. Limited seating. Don’t recommend.

Very good food, large portions, but unfortunately the service was mediocre. We took a takeaway and crouched outside and the staff rushed us. The price for takeaway and on-site differs by a pound, so I guess we were rushed even though there was little traffic and no one was waiting.

Cute little fish and chip shop tucked away in Soho. I Had the Cod And Chip and it was not as good as the Gordon Ramsay Fish and chip in Las Vegas. Fish was a bit chrispy but feels slimy inside and the sauce was just ok. The chip was not crispy, and was a bit on soggy ish side. It was just okay unfortunately. Tourist Trap maybe? They charged dine in for 17.95 Pounds and take out 15 Pounds. That is a bit of odd things to have....so I really think they are to cheat tourist.

Very good fish and chips! The place is small, so I recommend making a reservation. We went like this and were able to skip the line, which was quite long. The service is agile and friendly. The fish and chips were very delicious.

The Fish & Chips were good and plentiful, and the service was very fast. On the other hand, the prices are very London: €72 for 2 fish & chips and 2 half pints (service and exchange rate included)

Unfortunately disappointed. Was looking forward to eating here. Did not come close to my expectations. Ate fish and chips (cod). The fish was small in size and very tasteless. The fries were soft and also very tasteless. The calamari that the son ordered was much better.

Ate lunch here on a Saturday afternoon (13PM GMT). Business was starting to pick up thereafter. It felt a little chaotic when it was getting busier. There were maybe 3 servers there that were running around a lot. The food was served without too much of a wait. Fish and chips (cod and haddock) were tasty. We took a mixed starter of shrimps, squid, calamari, and fish along with another starter of deep fried halloumi. They were ok. The place is small with outside seating if the weather permits.

Not bad overall but I wouldn't say it's WOW. We ordered 1 traditional haddock fish and chips and 1 baked plaice with Cajun spices but arrived as plain. The haddock was a spot-on. Unfortunately, the plaice tasted a bit fishy. However, the atmosphere was cozy and vibrant in a convenient area. I would stay with the sophisticated fish fry just to be safe.

Good gluten free fish and chips but not the best I’ve had (sorry Brits but Richmond, Virginia still has my favorite). Gluten free carrot cake was very dry and I didn’t finish it.

I ordered fish, not cod, and it was unusual and delicious. You could choose to add/exclude the French fries, and they were plump and good. The amount of vegetables provided was impressive, but other places didn't serve them at all, so I just enjoyed it. Above all, the staff was really friendly and the bathroom was usable.

I ate The Originals (fried food) cod (cod) with chips, from the grill haddock, grilled halloumi cheese salad, and mushy peas!! The batter was a little thick, but it was crispy and really delicious!! However, haddock is a fish from the cod family and is slightly smaller than cod.! When I actually ate it on the grill, it felt thin and small... I think it would be good to keep this in mind! It was a shame that the French fries didn't taste like they were freshly fried :/ Mushy peas are boiled and mashed peas, and they tasted even better when eaten with fries, a white sauce similar to tartar sauce (it tastes like tartar sauce, but I think it had wasabi in it), and mushy peas😊 I enjoyed the meal!! Oh, and it's a restaurant where you have to wait in line, so it's a must, especially on weekends!!!!!!! Make a reservation in advance and go😊 When I made a reservation and went, they guided me to the seat with the reservation card!

Very good fish and chips, but not the best I've had. The haddock is cooked very well, but the batter lacked the X factor. Still great and I highly recommend.

The Hobson cider was great, however we were both a little disappointed in our meals. I had tuna nicoise and my companion battered cod, chips and onion rings. The salad was fresh but was over dressed, the tuna just ok. The cod was fresh and tasty, the chips were luke warm and the onion rings super oily. Not sure whether it's deserving of its high rating. The service was very friendly though.

Very small dining area (indoors has about 10 tables ND outdoors has another 5). Lines when I got there at 9pm so just be prepared. Food was worth the wait. Staff is very friendly and sympathetic.

I had the haddock fish and chips. The fish was hot with a nice crunch. The fries were also very good. I especially liked the tartar sauce.

Got the fried haddock. It was okay. Had a good crisp but The batter could use some seasoning. The tartar sauce was not good. And the coleslaw was just okay, we didn’t finish it. It was heavy in mayo with no other taste.

Amazing meal - fabulous for dietary needs with allergens clearly marked. Highly recommend and will be back. Our server Jay was a delight.

We were excited to have authentic London fish and chips and Hobson's let us down. We decided to share a fish and chips so I could try the GF sticky toffee pudding. The chips were amazing, but the breading on the fish was soggy. Service was missing mostly or extremely slow. They forgot the dessert and wish we had left without because it wasn't good, not much flavor, the ice cream on top was the highlight, and to add, we were charged for two when we only ordered one. Needs way more attention to detail.

Horrible experience which put us off for the entire evening. The server was extremely rude and pulled the table in front of my husband and gave it to a couple that had just arrived, removing our bag that was on the table! Even the couple was mortified and decided to leave after they apologized. We left of course after telling him off but it was the only racist experience we had in our entire visit. When asked about why he did that he claimed that the couple came before us, a. They didn't and b. Even if they did he could ask to split the two connected tables among the four of us without throwing our backpack in our face. Very rude and hateful server. I'd give zero stars if I could.

Mediocre experience. Cod was tasteless, batter was bland, chips were abysmal. If you had fish and chips in Nova Scotia or Iceland, this would be a solid 4/10 in comparison

"Came here with my family and had a range of food, including cod and chips, a seafood basket, and a halloumi salad. Overall, it was average to very good. The highlight was the cod itself inside the batter—white, flaky, silky, and cooked to perfection, just as a codfish in fish and chips should be. However, the chips were very average; I've had better on the typical High Street. In fact, I’d say that the local town / High Street fish and chip shops are very good . That said, this place was excellent, and the service we received from the lovely lady, Rimpal, was exceptional. Overall, I give it a good thumbs up. I didn’t want to rate it as average because they’ve put effort into packaging everything well, making it a solid fish and chip shop. Plus, it's good value for a fish and chips restaurant in the heart of London."

We had really good fish and chips here. Combined with mashed peas and coleslaw. The waitresses are paying attention very well and keep an eye on all tables. Well done!

Food was decent. Not cheap. Basic, clean interior. Server bugged us for order even before we opened the menu. Same server interrupted me while I was on a work call to give me the bill. Wasn't even asked if I wanted dessert or another drink. I had a 7:30 reservation. Was out the door by 8:05. 2 portions of cod. I salad. I calamari (5 rings), 2 sodas = £66!!! Suggestion: walk to Compton St Brasserie. Their fish and chips are awesome. They have great drink/cocktail options. Nice atmosphere and great servers. Won't return to Hobson's.

On a recent business trip I wanted fish&chips. A place was recommended locally and had good reviews on Google. Ended up ordering the haddock. They did not disappoint. Was a great meal and will return on future trips.
