The staff and food and atmosphere is amazing. We go regularly. I know everyone has their own opinions but I have read one review on here that staff weren’t good. Absolutely rubbish I have been enough times and been served off different people to know that this is not the case. Myself and my partner are always commenting how nice and welcoming all the staff are. Last time we visited we had two grand daughters with us . Staff member sat and chatted to them over and over making them giggle. One of my granddaughters had a rubic cube with her and staff member took time out of a busy schedule and had a go on it.

Fabulous food Great little pub My favourite is the black pudding tower with pepper corn sauce starter which I would happily eat as a main Amazing dish

Great home cooked food at reasonable prices. Good service. Can’t fault it! Our go to Sunday lunch venue . Also had some fabulous family and friends nights out here. The atmosphere is homely and friendly and they now sell artisan bread and cakes to take away.

First time visit for lunch and wasn’t disappointed, very nice pub with friendly and helpful staff, food lovely and nicely presented very good value for money, only gripe was the car park is a bit small considering the popularity and not helped by the idiot who abandoned his car in the car park entrance causing problems, however we will return.

Never a good sign when the branding outside is damaged the place is meant to be called the Hobson ffs Very run down ripped chairs scraped tables and bad carpets average age of clients was stone age.... Bog standard pub fair which is everywhere in this area not for me bland and just boring took an ice age to come and wasnt worth the wait Staff were nice tho so extra mark for that Place needs a refurb urgently Wont be back in a hurry

27 of us visited for a family birthday and it was amazing. We put a pre order in which helped for speed of service. The food was piping hot and absolutely delicious. The service was brilliant as it always is. If you want home made, fresh food with a cozy friendly atmosphere this pub ticks all the boxes.

Where do I start . Christmas Day , I have always cooked Christmas Day dinner , as a family we thought to eat out this year . Arrived 12.15 . Starters arrived within 10 minutes. Chicken broth and dumplings. Awful. Could taste corn flour . Dumplings were stodgy , did not eat . pate not enough bread . Had to ask for more . Main arrived next . Hardly any meat , not great choice of vegetables, pigs in blankets were uncooked and sausage was awful . No one ate them . Desserts no better . Bailey’s cheesecake, didn’t taste of Bailey’s . Had no taste , they were left . Christmas pudding was the nicest of whole experience. But that said brandy sauce , was not brandy sauce . Tasted like custard. Couldn’t taste brandy . . We waited for our tea coffee and warm mince pie . Which we didn’t get , I had to go and ask for them and waitress said , if yous want them , came with coffee and tea but we never were offered our warm mince pie , so never received. No Christmas decorations apart from one bit of tinsel in window that fell off . Place mats were doilies . Staff looked like they didn’t want to be there . And we were crammed in so could not get out our seat So hence I will be making Christmas dinner at home from now on . £65 each never again

Pre booked a table for 9 for Sunday lunch. Arrived to a very busy restaurant, waitresses trying to shimmy past people at the bar with hot food and gravy in their hands. No one to greet us and let us know where our table was going to be, so we had to stop someone in the middle of carrying food to let them know we had arrived. They said they’d get a table ready, after five minutes wait near the bar dodging hot food and gravy boats we were shown to an unmade table for 7 people, in the furthest corner where once you were sat down there was no chance of getting out. Highlighted the fact there were 9 of us and the waitress said “just move the chairs down and I’ll get you two more” so that meant instead of 3 of us down one side of the table they’d be 4 which was even more claustrophobic and the table wasn’t big enough. We asked if we could sit at the other vacant table which seated 9 with a bit more room but she told us that it was reserved, however, it remained empty for the duration of our meal. Sat on top of each other for 10 minutes until someone asked if we’d ordered drinks and another wait for menus, no cutlery, had to ask for that when the starters arrived and was unceremoniously plonked on the table in a heap. 2 drinks turned up while we were on our starters. The whole experience was chaotic and resembled a badly run canteen. There are far too many tables occupying the restaurant that means you can not sit comfortably, people are standing behind you or pushing past and in our case if I’d wanted to go to the toilet, I had to ask 3 other people to move. The waitresses try their best but they look miserable and are inexperienced. It’s a real shame because the food is quite nice but we’d have enjoyed it so much more if the whole experience had been better. I’m told by the person who recommended it to me that it’s quieter during the week.

Excellent from start to finish. Good food, great prices, nice setting and lovely service. We will return again.

Called into this ph for lunch and found it all very nice.We chose a table to sit at and ordered drinks whilst we looked at the menus.The drinks arrived and we both ordered two courses off the menu for £7.95 - starter and main.A pudding could be chosen instead of a starter for the same price. The meals arrived and were all very nice with a very friendly service.The portions are smaller than the main menu meals but are very nice.The onion rings are to die for - best I've had for a long time. There is a car park to the side and there are lots of tables inside. Highly recommend a visit.

Had lunch today with my niece and was pleasantly surprised at the choice of menu and the price!! We got the specials, main and pudding for £7.95. I was a little confused as one course was the same price, but she explained it was a larger meal. Both were very very nice, Chicken and peppercorn sauce Mince and dumplings Jam sponge pudding and apple crumble.

We have visited this hotel since 1980 and have always had value for money with the variety of meals we have enjoyed. The staff are first class, only down side there is no real ale marks out of 100--- 100

Was in for my aunts birthday Monday 24th October and what a warm welcome by staff food was fantastic the staff could not do enough for us we were even gifted by the lovely owner a bottle of wine she made my aunts birthday thanks again we will all be back again

Food is at excellent standard. I couldnt fault the food or service. I recommend anyone to try the food. I had a sunday lunch on the 16th oct 22 my birthday. Had a starter and sunday dinner couldnt manage desert has i was full. Well done to the landylady and staff for a fantastic service.

I was here from Sunday lunch last Sunday 16th October. I must say that the food was fantastic, and most of the service was great. But unfortunately one waitress ruined our day, the vulgar language that came from her mouth was appalling. She swore in the most vulgar way to other staff and, people sat in the bar are. She was the bigger lady with the short blonde hair, well in lady in a very loose term.there was children and families about and her extreme unprofessional attitude ruined our day. Ots very unfortunate as the rest of the experience was fantastic. This is my first review as I felt others should be warned about the language, and due to this we won't be back.

Absolutely amazing place great and friendly staff and wonderful menu. It was my daughters 12th birthday today we were not disappointed the sizzler is something I can’t get passed, my daughter had the chicken Kiev lush and to top it off chocolate fudge cake with a candle. The Hobson added joy to our lockdown with their takeaway service. Good quality standard pub grub. Good range of fresh vegetables served with meals. Generous portions. They organised their takeaway service quickly and it felt safe and worked well.

Popped in for lunch today and ordered the beef baguette with gravy. It was absolutely cooked to perfection and very reasonably priced. The owners and staff couldn't do enough for us and the place was immaculate. Definitely recommend.

Good choice of menu both on normal menu and special menu, we opted for the special menu costing (I can’t remember if it was £6.95 or £6.99 for two courses) we both opted for pie and chips which also came with vegetables and the pie did not disappoint plenty of steak in it and the chips were real chunky chips and really well cooked (my mouth’s watering thinking of them) The sweets we had (carrot cake and black forest gateaux) were lovely and a good portion too. The special menu portions may be slightly smaller than that of the regular menu but they are more than enough. Thouroughly enjoyed our meal.

What a lush meal i believe it was taken over in November, cannot recomend this place enough the food was gorgeous we even treated ourselves to desserts and was delicious the portions are generous and staff are very friendly and good crack we will be back

never been in the hobson hotel since the early seventies...moved back to burnopfield late last year...5 of us booked sunday lunch..beef,pork,mince n dumplings followed by fruits of the forest crumble with custard..will be back...BRILLIANT

This is the first time we have visited The Hobson but it will not be the last. Friendly staff, brilliant meals and spotlessly clean. Arrived at 13.55 afternoon to be informed that if we hurry to get our order in they will serve us as they stop at 14.00. We did that and we had to wait for them to cook the meals but it was well worth it. The only criticism if you can call it that is the portions are too big for us but would suit big eaters. We would highly recommend. Including drinks the bill for 4 people was just under £40. which we think is very reasonable.

We absolutely love this place. The veggie lasagne and Wellington is unreal. My fiancé can’t get enough of the steak pie! Sunday dinners are also lovely and very reasonable.

I have been to the Hobson a few times and all three Ive been greeted by a dirty place with boxes everywhere. The food is nice and It has real good pub classics. Service is average but very friendly.

The place is really just your typical rustic old English pub; very comfortable with its ornaments and wooden furniture. Loads of OAPs were there having lunch. Can’t fault the staff who were busy serving the orders and looking friendly and were generally – just pleasant. 10/10 for the atmosphere and service; but. The food… yeah. What’s the food like? My OAP mam said it was overall “bland.” She had the soup and roast of the day, which was reasonably priced; but whilst she ate it with gusto – she did not find it super tasty. I had the mixed-grill. The looks was great (see my upload) the onion rings were nice as union rings go. But the steak came well-done – when I asked for medium. It’s the same story with other mixed-grills from pub-restaurants in the area; because they are so thin – they can’t help ending up being cooked through. The rest, the gammon, the pork, tomato, mushrooms, egg and potatoes – were nice enough. I enjoyed eating it all; but still – I can’t say it was the best mixed-grill in Stanley. So food-wise – it’s very average. I don’t want to knock the place, cus load of older folk love going, but there are better places to go for a really good tasting meal.

Held a funeral tea there recently and were so pleased with the service we got. Menu was adapted to meet with our requirements, good value and on the day everything went smoothly. Owner understood how important these events (post funeral) are and took care to listen to what we wanted, offer advice and provide a great service.

We came in for lunch on Friday afternoon and even though it was busy the staff where all very healpfull nothing was to much trouble! The homemade rice pudding was delicious Will be back

I have never written a review on tripadvisor but felt the need today after a very poor experience at the Hobson. We used to go every week for Sunday dinner a few years ago until the one of the staff was very rude about my 2-3 year old. My little girl was leaving the pub, I was grappling to put my coat on so she was just a few steps ahead of me. The staff member complained that one of the waitresses could spill boiling hot gravy on her and couldn’t ‘run’ around the pub. Anyone who had had children or spent time with toddlers would have had a more helpful attitude I’m sure as it’s such a tricky age and I have another child too. I was out on my own without my husband and considering we were loyal customers who visited every week I felt really disappointed that the staff member was so unpleasant when child was walking only a few steps in front of me and causing no bother at all. However, I’d heard that the pub was under new management so thought we’d give it another go for my dads birthday and we really used to enjoy our meals here. Unfortunately our experience today was just as bad as last time. The food was lukewarm and nothing special but the real turn off was the 2 long blonde hairs that were in my dads Sunday dinner. Feel particularly bad since it was his ‘special’ birthday meal! However we paid for the meal. My dad mentioned about the hairs in the food on the way out though. I was at the toilet with my little girl and so wasn’t there to hear this but as the rest of the family were leaving ahead of me I heard the waitress/manager complain ‘well what are we supposed to do’! She obviously thought we had all left and didn’t realise I was right next to her! This lady’s attitude was appalling. If she cared about the business a simple apology would have been nice. That would have prevented me from putting this review on here. We weren’t seeking money off or any kind of reduction on the meal although other pubs who care about their customers I’msure would have offered this. Manners cost nothing and so this particularly rankles with me. I would have liked to say that apart from that the food was great but it was lukewarm and average at most. What a disappointment. All I can say is don’t go here. I just hope the waitress reads this and learns some customer services skills and at least something good can come from our experience. That’s 9 people who will not be back!

Love this pub and their meals BUT and a big BUT.

We went for a steak on Saturday night and it was so tough we couldn’t eat it,when the waitress collected our plates I asked if she could put the half chewed steak in a bag for the dog and said the dog maybe will have a better chance of chewing it than we had.....no response but did fetch a container with the left over steak in,will not be returning

Our friends Geordie and Stella took us to the Hobson for Sunday Dinner, I must say the beef was very tender and the rest was perfectly cooked. We did go again and the Mild Chicken Curry was excellent also the Chicken Stir Fry which was sizzling when it was brought to the table, that too was very enjoyable. (The Best) The Staff are friendly. Next time we are in Newcastle we will definitely be eating here with our friends of course. Thank you.

I came here for the first (and last) time with my family for Sunday lunch. My perception of the place was that it was very cramped and noisy, there was no distinction between the bar and restaurant areas and there were too many tables, not enough space for chairs and one table was even blocking the only fire exit! The staff were very unhelpful to the point of being rude and seemed to have a “not my responsibility” attitude. The food was OK, nothing to write home about. An disappointing experience overall

Went for a meal but won't be back - food just wasn't up to much. Burger wasn't home made, and was burnt when served. It was packed though and it's great to see a pub popular. I imagine as your local it's a decent one to have on your doorstep but I wouldn't be travelling to eat here.

Been several times this year, never been let down. Straight forward, good grub with plenty on your plate. Best chips in the area!

My husband and I visit this pub at every available opportunity - why? Really Great food and great prices - sure-but better than that - as a coeliac this is the only pub food that I have 100% confidence in - the staff are all amazing and I love the fact that the chef John even came out front to meet me and check I was happy with the meals and offer suggestions, he really assured me he knows his stuff where gluten free diets are needed! We drive past at least 20 other places to eat so we can dine here whenever possible as they really look after their customers - 5* treatment for very affordable fair prices - FabUlous....

Last night seven of us ate at the Hobson, between us we had a good selection from the menu and everyone agreed the food was lovely, my mixed grill was cooked exactly to the way I requested with very good portion sizes. The service was very good, the place was lovely and clean I agree the decor is a bit dated but you could put it down to olde world charm.

Really good food friendly staff lovely atmosphere not too expensive have had various meals there before and they have always been good and good value fast becoming my favourite pub restaurant would recommend to my family and friends superb

My parents, young son and I, went for Sunday lunch and it's so busy! We almost struggled to get a table. There's a stampede at the door when it opens at 12. I must have got confused with somewhere else local as I thought they didn't accept bookings but when we walked in every table is reserved. I heard a staff member saying 'Wheres she going?', maybe the more politer option would be to stand and greet at the door for people who don't know the policy!

Fresh food cooked to perfection. Excellent service, we were asked constantly if everything was ok by friendly polite staff. This traditional pub was full of families, children of all ages including lots of young adults and the occasional dog. A really good atmosphere.There was a good selection on the menue to meet a varety of tastes, all reasonabley priced with half adult portions. So a family visit doesn't break the bank. I'm really looking forward to my next visit the only problem will be what to choose to eat, it all looked so good and I was so full I couldn't manage a desert. Well done the Hobson, see you soon.

Fiesta de tamaño relativamente modesto (8). La cerveza estaba bien, el servicio era bueno, si acaso un poco extraño. (Cómo quieres tu carne cocinada sobresaliente? La comida estaba caliente) cuando llegamos y las patatas fritas estaban bien. Eso es bueno, ya que obtuvimos. Menú no es estimulante. El lugar está bien, pero no sólo. No volver porque hay sitios mucho mejores en la zona. No hay nada terriblemente mal con el lugar, pero no mucho con ella.

Pensamos que el probar Hobson para comer el domingo como siempre parece ocupado luego, inmediatamente me arrepentí cuando entramos y nos sentimos como si estuviéramos en una casa de retiro Has no ha cambiado desde que visité hace 20 años y lleno de pensionistas. Dijo la señora del bar nos reservamos una mesa para 2 personas. 30, ella nos informó que la gente en nuestra mesa aún estábamos comiendo y nos preguntó qué queríamos hacer, había por lo menos 20 otras mesas vacías, así que me sugirieron que me senté en uno de esos? ! Ella tenía que pedirle a alguien más que hacer. . . Pedimos unas bebidas y nos preguntaron si estábamos teniendo comida? La gente suele reservar una mesa sólo para tomar una copa? ? Dijimos que sí y nos preguntó qué queríamos - que no había ido a ofrece un menú y sólo tenía entramos por la puerta 2 minutos antes! ! Entonces ella dijo a sentarse aunque tuve que pedir. Las mesas estaban tan baja que era como estar en la mesa de un niño - no vayas si tienes problemas de espalda! ! La comida llegó 5 minutos más tarde. Ambos tuvimos carne, era como barquillos, muy duro y reluciente. El budín de yorkshire era enorme pero horrible, sabía de cartón. El puré era gris y con bultos. Las verduras era blanda y sin sabor y el patatas asadas estaban congelados y cruda por dentro. El único positivo que podría mencionar es que tienes una jarra de la salsa que estaba caliente. He dejado el 95% de mi comida. Nadie vino a preguntarme si todo estaba bien y no había una partida para hablar. Fuimos al bar a pagar y nos preguntó si todo estaba bien, me dijo que no, y la chica se fue. Al mismo tiempo otra chica era aclarar los platos, vio que habían dejado todo, no pregunte por qué. Yo nunca volvería aquí, la comida era horrible, el servicio era terrible, pub en urgente necesidad de reforma.

He visitado este pub cuando en la zona anteriormente. Hay una excelente y variada selección de platos. Mi esposa y yo decidimos por pescado y patatas fritas que estaban muy bien como de costumbre. El personal es siempre amable y hablador. Un bonito, quizás un poco pasadas de moda Pub con un buen menú. Encontramos la decoración un poco anticuada incluso si más a nuestro gusto que su vecino recientemente reformado el arado. Visitaremos la próxima vez que en Hobson. la zona.

Buscando un lugar para pasar una hora, nos cortado de aquí. Todas las mesas estaban reservadas para el almuerzo de domingo. Nos tomamos una copa cada uno, que tenían un precio razonable. Decoración parecía un poco anticuado, pero fue muy concurrido y la comida tenía buen aspecto, así que deben estar haciendo algo bien.

Attended here for a buffet after a funeral, first impressions awful inside smelly , and I would say dated and tired we used to come here years ago and I would say the place has not changed at all even have the same crockery they must be over 20 yrs old , felt very uncomfortable on walking in as the main dining area was open for people having lunch which were mainly old elderly people bit embarrassing when your upset. The buffet was in the little room at the back which was too small really for the amount of people but you cannot predict who is attending , which the overflow had to be among the diners . The sandwiches and food on the buffet were ok tea coffee etc , but as I said previously the surroundings really put me off eating dated and smelly , the staff on the day were a bit miserable to be honest. Unfortunately I wouldn't return unless this place had a major deep clean / refurbishment. I think it suits the elderly clientele well but unfortunately for me I don't like to feel like I m walking in to a nursing home dining room to have food.

We called in on spec car park was full so thought indicated good food but once inside whole pub seemed more like a nursing home menu lacked imagination and decor awful we ordered roast of the day it was plenty full but bland and tuff meat if we weren't so hungry would have left would never return

Llegamos a las dos y que había sido ocupado. No sé servicio terminado en tres. Pedimos y bolas de Misa del gallo. La mía estaba frío, así que nos envió sólo para ser recalentado en microondas y cuando volví era horrible con salsa fresca de todo. Lo dejé. Mi compañero dejó su lasaña fue seco y demasiadas de tomate. No nos vamos de nuevo en una prisa.

We went to The Hobson for Sunday Lunch with elderly parents - this must be the 4th or 5th time we've been over recent months. The food is always high quality and excellent value for money. Its always piping hot and plentiful. The ladies who served behind the bar and table service are all really lovely.

If you are looking for pub food in a traditional old pub setting then look no further. This pub has not changed much for over 30 years and that's around how long I have been going from visiting as a kid to growing up and taking my own. If you are looking for a new polished modern setting then this bar is not for you. I've not had a bad meal here yet. Yes sometimes there are small things that let the meal down, such as hard peas, but overall you couldn't knock the food for the price you pay. With the 2 course special's at £6.95 and kids at free what more could you ask for!? The sizzlers are fresh and yummy too. Not everything is home made and they don't state that everything is. The staff, although not always happy and smiling, are honest about what is bought in! If you want to know just ask.We will be back and I would recommend.

Very good food and service never been dissappointed in any meal. Only fault i have is tables are so close together. My husband is 6'6" we hope we can get a table in conservetry or back. But would eat here anytime. Had sunday lunch and midweek meals have ben more than happy.

We haven't been here for quite a while as we do not go that way very often now but we decided to go this Tuesday lunch time & were very pleased that we did. We knew that the last orders for meals is 2 pm & it was 1.45 pm when we went in & we were warmly welcomed by the very pleasant young lady behind the bar. They have got an absolutely fabulous, well varied choice of menus from snacks to sizzlers, steaks, pies & full dinners. We ordered drinks & meals & were served very promptly. We both struggled to get through the excellent meals that we had which were both piping hot & delicious. The pub is well spaced out with plenty of room to accommodate from couples to families,with high chairs for children & it looked quite accessible for wheelchair users also. It is worth remembering though that last food orders at lunch time are 2 pm.

staff very friendly food very nice ,had liver and onions for 1st time got loads of liver more than I expected chips spot on ,good woman had roast turkey dinner with veg carrots n cabbage,yorkie was huge we realy enjoyed our meal,finshed off with peach crumble custard yummy

16 of us prebooked for a lunch in December. Service was excellent, orders taken promptly (and patiently!), options explained and food arrived in good time, served hot and all exactly as ordered. For 16 of us the food bill was £102 which is exceptional value for good homecooked food with generous portion sizes. The pub itself doesn't have the most up to date décor but it's clean and welcoming. We will definitely return and happily recommend it as somewhere to go for good value home cooked food.

This pub is slightly difficult to access for wheelchairs. The pub is quiet. This is a plus. The staff seem fine. Cleanliness seems okay too. Music is not too loud. Vegetarian choice poor. Food is not homemade. Seemed mass produced and also likely to be frozen for use later on. Food tasted terrible. Very basic. The grilled cheese and tomato baguette tasted of meat fat. I cAn only think they haven't cleaned their equipment thoroughly after previously using it to cook meat. We are vegetarians, so can tell the taste of animal product very easily. The other food was tasteless. We felt we had wasted our money on this food. And it ruined our trip out. There is a definite lack of effort and imagination. Very poor.

Had Sunday lunch, greeted by friendly staff, shown to table, drinks and order placed, we received a lovely Sunday lunch served by inattentive staff, the meal was hot and plentiful and very tasty, this will not be our last visit

First time here tonight went for the special steak night,can not fault it.The steak was cooked to perfection all the trimmings onion rings mushrooms and home made chips.2 glasses of red wine all for £19.95.Will go back for certain.Staff really good.value for money 10 out of 10

We were in the area and decided to try a Sunday Lunch at this place based on the good TripAdvisor reviews. It was obviously popular and we couldn't get parked near the place having to park round the corner and walk instead. On entering you are greeted by a sign requesting you find a table and then order at the bar. There were plenty of empty tables but all had reserved signs on them. We asked to be seated and we're giving one of the reserved tables. We chose three adult and one child roast beef dinners and ordered at the bar. There was also an a la carte menu and a selection of specials on offer. Our food was served about five minutes after we ordered. The plates were served with the meat, potatoes and enormous Yorkshire Puds already on them with the other veg and gravy served separately. The veg was fresh and not mushy as you sometimes get with carvery vegetables from a warmer. The beef was very thinly sliced and a little bit on the chewy side. With one round of drinks the bill came to about £34. Overall pretty good value and service earning a 7/10.

This is a lovely traditional Pub. The staff are extremely friendly and very attentive. They serve an extensive and varied menu of lovely food. We visit as often as we can for evening meals. You probably need to book for Sunday lunch as it can get very busy. Well worth a visit.!!

Went for a late Sunday lunch and was not disappointed . Plate groaning with top quality food and the biggest Yorkshire in the world ! Bargain at £8 !! Cannot be beaten !!

We stopped for lunch one Monday and the place was busy. The service was a little slow due to being busy and the staff were friendly. The food though was not good at all with Turkey that tasted old, thick stodgy yorkshire pudding and bland veg. My friend had the liver which was good though but his chips were very dry. It just reminded me of school dinners. Perhaps we were unlucky as some reviews on here good, but ours was not very nice. 3/10 at best for me.

Really friendly pub that had delicious smelling and looking food even if I didn't get to eat any. Had lots of areas to either drink eat or watch sport on the tv. Good evening

If your visiting the 'beamish' area make time to visit'the hobson '.We had 4 meals and every one agreed...purfect.Friendly and welcoming.Sat in the restaurant area,lovely natural atmosphere and the staff were attentive. All meals were homemade and fresh.We had the steaks..dumplings..gammon dishes. We'll be back monthly as its 25 miles from usTry it..!

lots of variety on the menu but they could not say any of it was gluten free and I was not offered anything else I could have a steak or gammon but nothing to go with it because chips potatoes etc were done in same oil as everything else

Hate to say it, as this has always been a favourite, but it not as good as it used to be. The menu is good and the prices great but the quality seems to have taken a bit of a dive. I had liver but it didn't have much flavour and the chips were barely warm. fortunately the gravy warmed them up but they obviously weren't fried fresh. My wife's scampi, which she normally loves, didn't have a lot of taste either. Hopefully this was just a bad night as it would be a shame to strike this place off our list. We've always enjoyed our visit, as do many people who you see time after time. Disappointed.

Decided to give The Hobson a try despite the mixed reviews. So pleased I did it was lovely. Plenty of choice, good portion sizes and very reasonably priced. Would recommend and visiting again soon.

Eaten here many times now the food has always been exceptional. The drinks are a good price & the staff are always really friendly. As other people have said it could really do with a spruce up its very dated but that's the only issue.

The Hobson has always had a great reputation and we've been fans for many years. Sadly, time is taking its toll and investment must have stopped some time ago. This place does have a great menu 6 days per week but Sunday is a real disappointment. PLEASE BEWARE and don't get caught out like we were - soft drinks are a total rip off and cheaper in Grey Street on a Friday night. £2.35 for a line and soda is a joke. The "senior" staff acted as though they did not want to be there and the younger team were nervous but keen to do their best. Please Hobson, try and pull it back - you've not left it too late but the rot is setting in.

We popped in here for a Saturday tea because we were passing. Pub does seem a little dated décor and furnishing wise when you first go but it actually adds to the homely atmosphere. There are no menus on the tables and all the options are on chalk board on the wall. There is plenty of selection and variety on the menu including usual pub faves as well as curries etc. We opted for a sizzler and a chicken rock both of which were hot, tasty and portions were certainly plentiful. The pub has a very homey feeling and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. There was a 2 for £20 steak deal which included a glass of wine each and although we didn't take this deal there was plenty who did and it looked lovely! All the food is fresh and you can tell, lovely thick handcut chips as well. All in all a lovely meal, we will definitely return and have no hesitation in recommending it.

Came here last night with the wife for a meal . Both had the black pudding towers for starters & it was delicious . The wife had a sirloin steak , which she enjoyed & I had a large beef sizzling platter , it was lovely . It is a little bit pricy but at the end of the day you know you'll get a lovely meal for your money ... only downside is that the place is looking tired & dated , try spending a few £££ on some paint & furnishings .

We went for the Saturday night Steak Special £19.99 for 2 incl wine! my son had a burger! The steak was cooked to perfection it was terrific value and more than ample portions! The choice of meals on offer is extensive and has something for everything! Keep doing what you are doing! We will Defiantly be making regular visits... But ssshhh Its my secret!! :-)

We had read a couple of reviews suggesting the food was good so decided to visit . The pub itself is a little dated and could do with a little lift and bar service a little slow. We all ordered different selections from sizzler ,curry, roast of the day and gammon . We all enjoyed our meals very much and puddings scrumptious proper puds couldn't fault it . We will be returning very soon thankyou .

We felt that the service idea was very strange, then our order was wrong, then the waitress was cheeky in our response, cold food, and didn't taste the best. Heard good reviews but definatly won't be going back.
