Ho Ho in Basildon

We were so disappointed tonight. Delivery was an hour, which is fine when the food arrives hot and lovely. Tonights food was only warm. I had a beef curry which the beef had a strange taste of being slightly sour which I then left. The sauce was very "creamy'. I also had a prawn cocktail which had arrived on the hot food and was strangely warmer than the food at the bottom. One prawn had big black mark on. So disappointed as we have had lovely meals in the past.

1st time trying will not be going back. Although the chow mein was nice the special fried rice was like no other I have before. It contained sweetcorn had little to no taste was solid and resembled a microwave packet rice that had just been heated through. Very disappointed 😞

Tasted quite nice actually, had a decent portion and the staff were really friendly inside. Shop itself is a bit run down though. Also cash only so be aware!

This was the best Chinese we have ever eaten. Service from staff was lovely order was correct. Delivery was on time. So happy with our food. Got to try yourselfs to believe how nice. Outstanding 👍👍👍👍👍👍

It's soooo bad, I've never been so vexed that I had to leave a review but portions are tiny, but still charges the same price as normal, the guy on the phone was a peice of ...... (fill in the blank) the best part of this experience was the delivery driver, she was happy and smile and friend... f the rest! That's me trying my best not to swear

Really lovely food as always, been going here for a few years now, I refuse to go anywhere else.

My Chinese dinner was food good enough to eat but it was bland and uninteresting. Especially the Singapore rice…. had no heat or spice to it despite a chilli 🌶 next to it on the menu. I was told when I complained that I should let them know if I want it hot ( like their regulars do) How would a newbie know that they usually make it lame? Won’t use again

Food quality has dropped in the last couple of years. I find the chicken in the chicken fried rice is always dry and the rice itself is like its been reheated. I could go on, but poor food quality sums it up, I will now buy elsewhere. On a good note the counter staff are always friendly.

Food cold all portion are smaller less amount of prawn/chicken balls chip had been re warmed,sweet and sour sour wasn’t even half way up the tub They will on take cash not only delivery but also when you pick up NO CARDS ?

We have used this Chinese for years, always had a good meal. Gets very busy at weekend, so be prepared to wait for your delivery or collect its much quicker. Don't take cards , so cash only and they are not on any of the delivery apps, phone direct for delivery.

The worst Chinese we have ever had ate two mouthful each so disappointed

Once getting through the collection time was quick of 15 minutes however took over 10 calls to finally get through to the restaurant and have to pay by cash.

We have recently started purchasing from Ho Ho and will continue to do so. Great food, great service and a fair price.

Quorn and veggie dishes advertised on menu ‘vegetarian friendly’, yet when I called to make sure its fried in separate oil that meat has not been in, they told me its all fried in the same oil and they weren’t prepared to fry it separately for me. NOT VEGETARIAN FRIENDLY. LIARS

You can't even get through. No online ordering. Just one person on a phone line. The food is great. but I can't put up with 45 minutes of busy tone. Never bothering again. What terrible service.

Had my usual Saturday Night takeaway this week. All prices gone up, Plain Chow Mein up by 30p. Ok. Fair enough, businesses are struggling but as soon as I picked up the Chow Mein I could tell it was much lighter. Looking at the container its smaller than the usual ones. Putting up prices AND smaller packaging is a bit mean. Container portion not really enough for one and dont intend to be ordering 3 between the two of us so am going to shop around with our other local takeaways. Prices up fine, understood but no, smaller containers as well is just a liberty !

Disgusting service. Got our order incorrect so we then had to travel back another 15 minutes due to their mistake. Asked for our correct order to be told by the girl serving that we were lying. Then wanted us to pay the difference for her mistake. They then would not accept the rest of our order to be returned as it would be cold by the time we could actually ea our meal. We then asked for a refund to be scoffed at and the girl felt the pot saying they were still warm when they were not. Finally issued a refund albeit not giving us the correct amount, will never be using Ho Ho's again, worst customer service ever. Absolutely disgusting.

Always good food, very reliable for accuracy and food is always a good standard

This is not my usual Chinese .Due to other chinese takeaways being closed in my area we gave this a try.Only bad thing is they only deliver around laindon.They do offer collections. Went to order yesterday and they said they were to busy for collections only deliveries, when we asked about delivering to pitsea they said they don't but the guy did say he'll take the order for collection.Food was ready on the time stated and was piping hot.Food was pretty decent and not a bad price either.This place will now be my back up chinese.

Been using Ho Ho's since the 80s always great food with lots of flavour..

just had food from ho ho ,all reheated and chicken balls burnt. don't think we will go there again, not eatable.

We've used HoHo a few times now since the mother in law moving walking distance to them. Their food tastes great...however they do seem to struggle with getting my order right sometimes. Out of three times ordering honey orange duck they have got it correct once! The other times i end up with pineapple duck, which is yeah okay and tasty, BUT it's not what i ordered or wanted! When eating with family it's hard to go back or phone to complain because by the time i get my food everyone would've either finished eating or their food would be cold from waiting for me. I will use the order number next time and see how that goes haha!! Great food but poor knowledge of their menu.

First time I ordered from here tonight and food was very good.

Ordered three chicken dishes sweet-and-sour chicken chicken noodles chicken with skewer . Chicken so dry unbelievable called the shop they told me that’s the way the chicken comes here so I said this will be the last time I ever order here good luck for you guys to eat from this restaurant be lucky

Don’t order from ho ho Chinese. This is what I got, was supposed to be spicy chilli chicken. Bone dry over cooked, wasn’t spicy at all, it had big pieces of chicken skin mixed in with it. Also they didn’t deliver my egg fried rice. I phoned them they said that’s how they cook it. I asked for my money back because I payed cash, he said no you can have a egg fried rice. So I politely told him I would be putting my complaint on trip advisor, all he said was ok. Zoom in on the photo please, you will see all the chicken skin on top. Thankyou for looking.

Worst Chinese I have ever had. I ordered a chicken curry and asked for rice to go with it. They did not tell me it came with rice already when placing our order, so we had extra. There were approx four pieces of chicken in the Kung po, which was drowned amongst onions. The prawn toast was not only burnt but they had not even cut it. We had 2 legitimate pieces of toast.

Very nice chicken chow mein. Plenty of tender chicken plus chips and 2 other dishes. Would recommend.

Great clean food, great customer focused staff... Award winning buisness... Local council awarded a score of 5 maximum score for cleanliness... Will deliver 3 miles from shop. used this company over many years no complaints...

Had this last night, called and ordered and was told it would be ready to pick up in 10-15 minutes got there and had to wait another 25 minutes! The food was lukewarm, oily and the curry was so watery! The food tasted of nothing. A waste of £40 and ruined our evening! Such a shame!

Turned up at 1130pm and was told....We are closed even though website says shuts at midnight. When I told staff that. Not they were not interested. Will not use them on principle now!!!

Had a great takeaway from here last Friday night. Went and collected ourselves, food was brilliant and very big portions, staff were friendly.There was a bit of wait when i went to collect as it is very very popular, but that was fine as the food was very freshly prepared and made to order. Not swimming in oil like a lot of Chinese take-aways, very very nice. We'll be back !

Local Chinese takeaway. Never been disappointed (yet). Recommended.

We have been loyal customers of the Ho Ho for many years and it never lets us down. You can place a telephone order in advance of collection and so the food is ready upon arrival. As Chinese takeaway venues go this is one of our very favourite places.

Order from here yet again the food was delivered so quick my wife's chicken curry was way to salty to eat so went in the bin. The chicken balls we had delivered was cooked enough to use as bricks so called and asked for replacement wish I didn't even bother what a waist of money and time definitely wouldn't prefer here again

Me quedé muy impresionado con la selección de platos, el restaurante ofrecía quorn no tienden a encontrar que en la mayoría de los lugares. Los precios son bastante razonables, aunque no acepta pagos con tarjeta, es sólo en efectivo a la entrega o la colección.

Utilizamos HoHo cada pocas semanas, pero se está haciendo cada vez menos, ya que parece que siempre tienen problemas con la comida no nos están entregando juntos y en promedio pierde un plato que luego tienen que conseguir teléfono acerca de re-entrega. Por esta vez todo el mundo ha comido. Debe ser abordado.

Placed an order for delivery, starter we ordered was Satay chicken skewers and baked spare ribs with chilli and salt, 5 chicken skewers in a delicious satay sauce, the ribs were amazing, best my other half said he had ever had, our main was honey & lemon chicken, I forgot to ask if they would do the sauce separate as pouring it over makes it soggy, anyway 15 mins after ordering I rang back to ask if they would do the sauce separate, the lady told me they had already done it with the sauce poured over, however she would do me another one (thats service) the dish was beautiful, my other half had special curry, it was full of meat and tasted lovely, our egg fried rice was the best we have ever had, portion sizes are very big, fantastic value for money, they even put a huge bag of prawn crackers in at no charge and also some sesame prawn toast to try, never had sesame prawn toast like this before, made onto proper crusty loaf and loaded with prawns, delivery time was spot on too, highly recommend this takeaway, we for sure will never have a chinese takeaway from anywhere else now!

Food is the best in basildon, quick service always tastes lovely, we have tried pretty much everything on the menu and always well prepared and not greasy at all. Prices are good and staff are very friendly.

used to use hoho quite regularly then it started to go down hill so stopped going there, then tonight we thought we would give it another try and were very impressed at how much it has improved

We order from here all the time and have never been disappointed :) The food is always hot and tasty and never have to wait too long for delivery. Recommend the crispy garlic chicken dish!!!Would be nice if they still gave free prawn crackers though.

I have been eating from here since I moved here 25 years ago, and I have never had a bad bit of food, always around 40 min l o l but always hot and always good. if all takeaways was as good as this there would never be any food bugs

Have to say I was very surprised about the negative comments about this place, especially one in particular about foreign objects in the food. This place has a top food hygiene rating from the council.After Hong Kong house closed we tried all the local takeaways and this was by far the best. We always find the food and service good.

This takeaway consistently produces highly salted dishes, however the menu is varied and reliable. Consistent food quality, staff very helpful but always over salted I stopped using this one because of the over salting of the food. Maybe my palate is at fault and the majority of customers prefer this amount of favouring its their choice

The worst takeaway meal I have ever tried to eat.Stear clear of the HO HO Hoover Drive When I phoned to tell them the guy said Ihe does not employ the Chef.I wondered why I was the only one in there ordering on a Sat evening. even their phone was not ringing obviously the locals know better P.G.

Had food from here loads of times. Always good and on time. Takes about 40 mins from order to being ready when they are busy (Friday Saturday). Other times about 15-20 mins. Most importantly the food is Consistantly Good.

Took nearly 2 hours to deliver on a Monday!! Our order was short on what we asked for and the owner was rude on the phone when we called them. Overcharged by £5 for what we got but would have been undercharged IF we had got what we asked for. I will never order from them again.

Cheap and cheerful! it's my chinese of choice around Basildon. The service can sometimes be quite a long wait expecially with home deliverys.Apart from that it's a perfectly adequate Chinese and would be missed if it wasn't around here!
