A hidden gem in Basildon. Reminds me of China. The staff is really nice and the food is one of the best Chinese food I’ve ever had in UK.

Using more and more, cannot fault the quality of the food, chow mein ( in my opinion) used to have a funny taste but now tastes A1, best curry sauce around and the 'chicken balls' are suburb (even though they are flat) you get loads of them, enough for 2. Do I recommend, definitely a yes and delivery is usually within half hour. Negative, no Chinese Calendar for my old mum 😫😫

Awesome customer service! Ordered some food it was banging, had a lovely lady serve me mentioned it was her first day on the job and I couldn’t find a single flaw. Been coming here for years now would definitely recommend and the politeness and kindness from that young woman was very heart warming thanks guys keep it up !!

Got phone put down on me 3 times , and couldn't get through again went elsewhere.

Usually order from here as it's next door to me and I'm usually happy with the food... However got pork fried rice and it was Incredibly hard and bland, the chicken balls where good, the roast pork Chinese style was horrible, and the duck was mainly all skin, asked for it shredded but it wasn't.

Been a customer for over 15 years. For the first time I've thought I need to find a new place as I have had 2 takeaways that I've really not enjoyed the food. Dishes have changed flavour and not good quality now, and got our order wrong a few tmes lately which is annoying. Time to say goodbye.

These people need to be closed down! The food turned up in under 20mins from ordering which I thought was odd. We have eaten the food and now have food poisoning! Myself and partner are both home sick and unable to go to work. I will be reporting this dirty business to the environmental health! PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COST!

A decent chinese, the chips let it down they were somehow soggy and dry at the same time <\3 loved the chicken curry and chow mein, delivery was also right on time. Food wasn't hot but cant fault them for that its freezing out lol. Decent pancake roll, it had some crisp to it whereas a lot of other places its just overly greasy and soggy. Overall, not disappointed.

Used to go to China city whenever I ordered Chinese haven’t had it for atleast a year so thought I’d order. I am shocked at how much it’s gone downhill! The crispy chilli beef was really dry and almost broke my teeth because of how hard it was… salt and pepper chips - no salt! Absolutely disgusting, will not be going back!

Ordered from here tonight and never again will we order from here, the food was absolutely vile, the ribs had hardly none or no meat at all on them and ever since eating from here we have all been suffering from sickness and bad belly aches

Dont order the chicken chop suey only boiled chicken and beansprouts no veg!!! Portions are getting so small and the free prawn crackers if you spend over £22 are ridiculously small bag 😡😡😡

I was told 45 mins. 15 mins later a knock at the door it was the Chinese by surprise!! The chips had been cooked and re cooked. The rice tasted of bleach. The food was horrible. I no wish I had saved my money now.

This is our favourite takeaway. The food is always tasty and good quality and the staff in the shop are always pleasant. Highly recommended.

Its Friday I understand they will be busy o get this but after waiting an hour and quarter to call them back to ask where it is the lad said another half hour... I give them the benefit of the doubt and after 2 hours still nothing. I asked to speak to the manager and got greeted by the most rude and sarcastic woman I have ever spoken to. If they stated at the beginning there was going to a 2 hour wait i would just ordered from elsewhere but the lies are not acceptable. They was obviously short on drivers too as the guy said the food was ready and waiting for the driver to collect. They did offer a £5 discount but that didn't interest us. Our kids have been waiting patiently. Dont lie to customers Disgusting behaviour.

Absolutely disgusting with this place, after waiting for nearly 2 hours the food was not up to there usual standard, I called requarding the satay chicken and was rudely told what did I want her to to about it. Called back as not happy with rest of food after tasting it and the girl hung the phone up on me.

I ordered my food and when it turned up is was wrong, chowmein was greasy and looked like it had been cooked in dirty oil and when I complained to the manager after using this shop for the last 5 to 6 years she said I always complain, i don't ever complain she is rude and not helpful just abusive and when I said this is the last time I use them she said good, if that's customer service then she should get a new job. This shop has lost all its stars for me, I will never recommend it again.

Lovely staff & lovely food. When it says "spicy" could add more spice to make it spicy. Good menu. Quick & reasonably priced.

absolute incompetent receptionist. Got my order wrong and told me I had to pay for what I actually wanted! when i explained they should rectify their mistakes she kept coming up with an excuse! ordered from here for 2 years as they're local but would never order again!

Obviously know the take away has been taken over been using them for at least 15 years but after the last two wrong delivery the attitude of new manager never again 😟

My family had a takeaway from this 'Chinese ' and I will make this very simple, my 17 year old Son could have done a better job and he has never cooked in his life!!! Save your money and go elsewhere, burnt food and sloppy cheap short cuts ie special fried rice was boiled rice with a couple of prawns and a couple of slices of meat? Disgusting and will never return 😤 😤😤

Phoned these to order but I didn't have a menu and the bloke that took the call couldn't even be bothered to look up the meal I wanted as I did not have a number. Never using them again after using them for years.

I ordered a take away and told it would be 45 mins, after an hour I phoned and a young fella just said we are busy. After another 15 mins I phoned again and complained again I got a horrible sarky attitude from the boy on phone when i told him i wasnt happy and he told me it was my problem, when i asked to speak to manager he refused to get him and said to me " do you know who i am" in a sarcastic voice, i asked for his name several times he wouldn't tell me, I asked for managers name and he wouldn't tell me just kept making sarcastic comments, then I said at least I could have had a phone call saying the food would be late, he said again sarcastically "oh it will be late" and hung up on me! I then got very angry and phoned and cancelled my order again asked to speak to manager and he said why dont you come here and see him and so we went to the take away to see the manager, even in the shop the boy wouldn't get him at first he just kept smirking, eventually I did complained to the manager who quite frankly didn't seem bothered just said sorry. That boy should not be working with the public he was very rude and obnoxious and as we left he gave a smirky grin and waved. I have been going there for years but I will never go again and I dont recommend this place. The food did turn up after 1 & half hours I told him to take it back to the shop. Absolutely disgusting service.

Too many bad stomachs the following day to continue using this place anymore. Looks dingy and counter staff would appear to want to be anywhere but there. It used to be good, but if you go just down the road you'll find an excellent takeaway in the Diamond House

We use this for most of our Chinese takeaways and is normally very nice but the last couple we have had have been really poor. The curry sauce has changed and not for the good. The chicken balls are chewy and the chicken in the curry is gristly and all brown meat. I will be trying another one.

It was the best Chinese food in Basildon. I do not know what happened maybe the change the chef because now food is horrible.

These guys are super fast. Reliable and eager to please. I have used them several times and can order my meal with a faster turn around that many of the fast food joints nearby! Only accept cash though but there are several ATMs close to the store.

We have been using China City as our preferred local Chinese for several years now and we have never experienced any issues. Whether going into the takeaway itself or ordering for home delivery service has always been fast and efficient. The staff have always been friendly and attentive They offer a vast selection of Chinese cuisine and are always happy to assist in any modification to dishes required, especially ifballergies are involved. The food has always been hot and tasty , portions are also generous too.

Ordered at 6.30, promised to deliver within 45 minutes and rang them three times after 90 my nutes, food still not here....terrible service!! To think, it was only a £33.10 order....imagine if it was a £10.00 order. Would never recommend them to anyone

Couple of dishes are ok but my favourite Chinese dish, Chow Mein, is bland and flavourless I'm afraid. Sweet and sour chicken balls are great though. As is salt and pepper chicken. A mixed bag certainly.

Never eat here worse food I've ever had threw the lot in the bin full of grease and if i could put minus stars i would tasteless slop total nasty food and found hairs in food

Good food. Good sized servings. Priced reasonably for what you get. Service is tolerable. Just hope you don't get one of the sad looking ones who look like they would rather kill themselves than take another order. Too real for someone just looking for a meal after coming back from work. Overall, good one. Keep it up my dudes.

Have been using this place on and off for years as parking can be an issue. Tonight got a space and god I wish I hadn’t ! The worst Chinese food I’ve ever tried to eat in my life! Asked for dry ribs so got rock hard ribs! Plain chow mien ( yep plain and dry ) chicken fried rice ( see above ) curry sauce was so salty couldn’t even eat it. Chicken balls and lemon sauce was ok. On the bright side the chips were nice and we got free prawn crackers ( which I did throw across the room after trying the food ) So maybe a note to the owner SACK THE SO CALLED CHEF ! Oh and will not be returning 👋🏻

Awful, if I could give no stars I would. Ordered for delivery, nearly 2 hours later no food so called to chase as children getting hungry. Said driver had been and no answer, I had been in waiting for it with no knock! Called me a liar rather then accept his driver hadn't been! Not impressed.

Decided to give this place another go rather stupid the food looked good when it arrived but it was tasteless Fried Rice, was a bit soggy Sweet Sour Chicken, not to bad Sauce was nice, Chicken Chow Mien really was the driest tasteless l have ever had. Maybe a bit more flavour on the food would make a difference. Will not be trying again for a long time. I will stick to places outside Basildon

I've been coming here for a long time and on trying different dishes they are tasty and good portion sizes. Takeaway needs a real refit though as showing its age but the food is something else. Staff are friendly

Had family round for dinner ordered Chips, Chow mein, chicken chow mein, chilli beef, s/s chicken, garlic prawns, lemon chicken, ribs, mixed hors d'oeuvres and a few more dishes came to just over £50 well worth it. Order early as we ordered after 8 and had to wait 30-40 mins. ( it was worth the wait)

Shop Looks a bit shabby but food is always really good, tasty and fresh. Service is efficient and friendly. Would always get my Chinese food here as I think it's the best I've had!

We quite often use this takeaway on a Friday night.Food is delicious, and the delivery is very quick.The food is very reasonably priced as well.When the food arrives it is always very hot. I cant remember ever having to complain that the food was cold or something was wrong..Thankyou!!

I ordered over a hour ago was told 45 mins so phoned up and was told the customers that come through the door has priority so will be another 20 mins what a joke if you order food you should be in a que no mater If by phone or walk in you shouldn't offer delivery if you take this attitude as some families can't collect for all different reasons after today I won't be ordering from this place ever again Very very bad costumer practice never herd so much bull s$#t avoid this Chinese I can't believe what the women said UPDATE 1 hour 45 mins till it arrived they must off had more walkin customers that had priority over delivery customers what a JOKE

China City was recommended to us, so we ordered a take away tonight. It was absolutely awful! My wife had chicken chow mein and lemon chicken. It was hard to find any chicken in the chow mein! The lemon chicken I swear was one of those birds eye battered chicken breasts sliced up and a pot of lemony water to pour over it. My crispy beef was crispy with 2 slices of chilli in it and pretty tasteless but was the best of the disaster. My squid was in a watery flavourless sauce with some chilli sliced up and the squid was really over cooked and pretty inedible. We also ordered a grilled chicken in a Garlic sauce, which again was like a sliced birds eye battered chicken breast thing in a watery sauce. Probably one of teh worse Chinese take aways i've ever had.

Great food, with excellent service. Very helpful staff, with great knowledge of ingredients etc for people with allergies, and they set aside the time to help even when busy. The food itself is excellent. Good quality ingredients (e.g. meat is always tender, with no random bits of gristle) cooked well.To my mind, simply the best takeaway in the town :)

The food is always delicious, delivery drivers are always friendly and prompt. Unfortunately, all the good points are completely overshadowed by the absolutely appalling and completely rude girl who answers the phone and takes all the orders. She is unfailingly rude, terse, abrupt and generally speaks to every customer as if they are a nuisance. I know numerous people have stopped using China City solely because of her disgusting attitude towards customers. I have no idea why the management continue to employ her, they must think she's more valuable than their entire business.

when am on lates at work we sometimes well all most all times organise a takeaway especially at the weekend - and china city is on the door step - food offers a great choice, excellent value and there more then you need to eat when it arrives -

Chinese is my best food and I've tried all the takeaways in my local area , this one is the one I keep going back to , the chow mein ribs duck are all amazing as is the crispy chilli beef love it and will never order from anywhere else , compliments to the chef ..... Will be ordering agin this week

The crispy chili beef is the best around but overall the food is excellent and resonably prices. The staff are friendly and the waiting times are good.The menu is varied as would be expected with some English options.There is a home delivery service if desired.

Ordered a set meal for 2.Arrived with something that resembled dish water (was meant to be barbeque sauce)it was vile.the sweet n sour chicken was covered in the same vile dishwater they obviousley pour this disgustiing yellow watery stuff over all their dishes and pass it off as barbecue and sweetnsour sauce! Was also overcharged by £8 they said they dont accept cards cash only ( can see why)Phoned them up fuming at my vile meal(dogfood looks more appealing) they said that they have been cooking this sauce years it was fine. I said its neither barbecue or sweetnsour it was vile and the same stuff was being used for both sauces. The lady was very rude had no manners and could not speak properly every other word was"no it aint" she said there isnt a manager and threw fone down on me £25 straight in the bin it was not fit for human consumption and will be taking the matter further.disgusting vile food and vile common staff

Ordered Chinese in shop as we only live 2mins away. Service and food was quick. Food was yummy. Will defo order from here again :)
