Hixon Green in Brighton and Hove

Appalling customer service. A group of us booked for here for dinner on a Monday evening and paid a deposit per head for the booking. When we arrived they told us "the kitchen was closed" and "there's nothing they could do". Obviously, they completely ignored the fact they had our booking and decided to shut earlier - what an unprofessional establishment. There was no apology, no offer of compensation and no offer of refund for our booking fee - outrageous. These sort of places give the industry a bad name.

Had the worst breakfast ever bacon burnt to a crisp eggs swimming in grease it reminded me of a cheap roadside grease spoon terrible and very expensive

Very overpriced for what it is, similar experience at much lower prices elsewhere. £16 for an omlette, they are trying it in.

I have a special place in my heart for this spot in Hove. The service is consistently wonderful and caring, the food is delightful, and the atmosphere is always so comforting. It's truly one of the best places in Brighton to unwind and spend some quality time. The fact that they're dog-friendly is just an added bonus. The staff puts in so much effort, and if you ever need anything extra, it's never a problem.

We went in for brunch this morning very nice people working there, The wait time was a bit of a long time and food was a bit to filling. I recommend serving drinks with food. Thanks guys see you soon!

I’ve been there for a coffee, it was good coffee and the chocolate fudge cake was awesome.

There is a good selection of things on the menu for breakfast and brunch. They were also flexible if I wanted to have something not from the menu. Service was fast and friendly.

Best place for a coffee. Good for work and good for group outings!

If you are prepared to pay £19 for: 1 UNSMASHED avocado 2 coin sized tasteless falafel (the dish is supposed to be also for 3 poeple) 1 spoon sized hummus ONE cherry tomatoe cut in halves Few carrot shavings, olives and slices of so called pitta bread, AND: £18 for a fruit salad bowl, filled mostly with lettuce, tossed in a few pieces of apple, orange, pineapple and walnut, then this place is for you. It used to be a decent place some time ago.

Shared a mezze platter - 3 dry falafel and some hummus, pitta and a couple of veggies - £20! Service was very slow. Waited half an hour for second drinks and gave up in the end. No apology or smile from any of the staff. I wouldn't return.

About £17 for what was basically a sandwich (it's the breakfast). Definitely not worth the money. Staff are nice but not that well trained. I cleaned the table and they didn't bring milk for the tea for ages... Basically it's a very nice place with delusions of grandeur. (That last sentence could be used to describe Brighton)

Used to come here for coffees. Haven't been in for a while but came in as they had space on a wet bank holiday Monday. Four of us ordered from the breakfast menu. All very nice. We couldn't sit in the main restaurant area as it was full so we sat in the 'coffee shop'. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Reasonably priced

Saw the new Rotisserie menu and gave it a try - was so tasty really wholesome food and 50% off during the rest of May. Thinking I will go again for sure - staff always so polite and my friend was gluten free and this was no problem - great venue too

Visited on a quiet Sunday evening and had the sharing Beef Short Rib which was perfectly tender and fell off the bone. The potatoes were plentiful, the carrots and broccoli well cooked and the aioili and chicken jus were delicious. The staff were very friendly as well so I recommend trying it out. There was a 50% off food deal running so we paid a lot less than normal.

Having been to HG many times & I feel the service, & particularly the coffee, could be better. However, it is a nice environment & location to eat and drink

Have been a handful of times and there has been no consistency in the food. Specifically the pancakes. We first went in January of this year and had an amazing stack of fluffy pancakes with bacon and eggs. To then go back only one month later and be presented with the same meal only with 3 measly crepes instead of the stack I had previously had. I was told you have to order the Canadian version to get the fluffy ones so did so today- only to be presented with the same 3 measly pancakes I had previously had before. Disappointed is an understatement.

Nice place and decent food. However, don’t expect a pleasant approach from the manager, he should probably be kept away from customers.

Held a surprise birthday celebration in the upstairs area for 30 guests. The whole experience was faultless. Any request was dealt with effectively. The buffet options are great, the food was delicious and service was impeccable. All our guests were very impressed. A huge thank you to all at HG for making it a great success and truly memorable evening. Highly recommend this venue if you are looking to organise a function for a civilised private or professional business event.

Literally hosted my Mums 70th birthday party at Hixon Green this evening and wanted to write a review the minute I left. I was honestly so overwhelmed by the incredible staff and service, the ability to go above and beyond to make sure all the stops were pulled off to make the day special. A huge shout out to Leigh for his support from start to finish! Could not have done it without you. If anyone is thinking of having a small celebration, baby shower or even an event launch - the upstairs hire is the perfect spot for it 🙌🏼❤️

I had my sister bridal shower at hixon green on the 4th of February 2024. Staff were amazing. They kept checking if everything was ok and if we needed anything. I rented the whole of upstairs. Best decision I’ve made to have my sister bridal shower there. We had an amazing view of the street and enough space to fit nearly 40 people. I was allowed to move the furniture to however I wanted it and decorate it all how I wanted. Honestly thank you all so much and also a big thank you to the chef for the delicious food x

We came for a family brunch. 5 of us. The only dish that was no complaints was for the veggie breakfast. 2 Hunters breakfasts were totally cremated. The bacon turned to dust and sausages were dry and over cooked. All of our poached eggs were over cooked. 2 dishes were cold. He replaced the 2 dishes. We did tell the waiter and he took 2 dishes off the bill and 35% off the remaining bill. Just think its bad for such a nice place to send out dishes that clearly are not edible.

The only food I've had is pain au raison. Delicious, warmed.

First of all I normally rate this place for morning coffee visits and maybe cake/toast. However on this occasion wife and I had a brunch meal. I had the breakfast which was ok but at over £17 so it should be, this is much dearer than the Ivy. My wife had the Canadian breakfast which consisted of 2 small pancakes streaky bacon and maple syrup at over £15 this was not worth it and pancakes not brilliant. Server not particularly good, sullen,did only what he had to do,again unusual here. When I asked for cheque, he said everything ok,my wife said only 'just ok',response was ok and off he wandered. I will still go here but if anything is ever wrong again I will ask for management. So very disappointed as probably won't eat here. Total bill Including coffee&tea was £40, no tip!

The drinks were great and the manager seemed really friendly and nice but the waitress service left a lot to be desired. On arrival the two of us we were directed to a table and were told by the waitress that she would be over to take our order but ten minutes later still nothing and we could see she has gone upstairs to help with customers there instead. Had to go to the bar to chase it up. When we paid at the end our order didn’t exist on the system and we had to just tell the manager what we had, which doesn’t inspire confidence. It wasn’t even that busy.

Visited for lunch, it was really busy however once sat down, the staff were very accommodating and the food was fantastic. I’ll definitely be going there again

Food was great, but for meetings upstairs better organisation of drink orders & distribution necessary

Awful service and standards, asked for a high chair and the chap said he would bring one up, half an hour later no high chair or someone to take our order. Apparently Egg Benedict now comes in two sizes, single egg and muffin £10 and a double egg and muffin (normal portion everywhere else) £15. This place used to be half decent I would not recommend it anymore, plenty of alternative options along the road and further in town. I won’t be visiting again.

Burgers (we had a beef and a vegan) were over priced and not great quality, the chips were not as advertised and cold. The food arrived late, over 30min wait, without any explanation.

Cake is normally fantastic but it was disappointingly dry today. Coffee was tepid. Service not as good as it used to be. Nice festive decorations. Service remains somewhat indifferent. Coffee was good.

On arrival, I asked if I order at counter or is it table service. Table service was the answer.I must have been invisible after that. 10 minutes later.....They weren't busy but I waited to get served and had been politely waving, 3 times saying excuse me to passing staff. In the end I had to go to the counter and ask if could order. 😀

Visited for a coffee and snack with a friend. Welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff, comfy seating. Did browse the menu which looked inviting but just had tea and cake. Paid on street parking nearby.

Really disappointed. Booked for 1pm and took over an hour to get our food. Unfortunately had to send my full English back as it was stone cold. Asked how long it would be after waiting a further 10 minutes for them to re-make it, and was spoken to very rudely by, I assume the manager or supervisor. When I got my brunch for the second time, it was microwaved but the same food rather than fresh. I am a chef so it’s very obvious so know the difference. The man in the pink top was very apologetic and nice and took my meal off the bill. Hopefully they sort out there kitchen issues because the menu looks really promising

11.00 am booking, still no food at 12.05? If there is a problem let people know, don't just leave them sitting waiting 😒. Shame as food is normally good

Lovely place with delicious cakes and coffee!

Service was excellent, but the management clearly isn't bothered about the quality of ingredients or tastiness of food. Definitely not the best place for breakfast in Hove. Orange juice was from concentrate, side salad was provided without dressing and overall the choice of ingredients seemed to be focussed on reducing cost. Won't be coming back any time soon.

Coffee and cake deal £6.95 - great deal but limited pastries /cake. Usual croissants/pain au chocolate 2 cakes available - caramel and apple / coffee and walnut. We had 1 of each - verdict, nice cake but the frosting on the coffee and walnut cake was awful - tasted like shaving foam, I was disappointed as it looks like a higher end coffee shop. The drinks were fine, lattes not overly hot though. Few customers who looked like they were having a nice time. Be sure to tell the waiter you'd like the coffee and cake deal when you order. Over all experience - left me feeling flat. Toilets fine.

Rubbish food- " skin on chips" were undercooked frozen fries. Tasteless and lacking in seasoning. Only paid for half the food as, only half was what we ordered or ate. Highly recommended skipping this place. The one star is for Staff who were polite and friendly.

Contemporary and chilled ambience, with the most amazing selection of dishes, cocktails and wine. Simply the best food and service in Brighton. We had a dinner there last night, the food was so good, so scrumptious and made by freshly produced quality ingredients, simply tasted better than many Michelin star restaurants I have been. Staff and service were amazing. Hixon Green has fulfilled all my expectations for a great evening out.

Awesome outdoor and indoor dining and to top it off a great upstairs area for general seating or functions! Lee gives a really friendly feel to Hixon Green, we thoroughly enjoy our time when he's there!

We absolutely love coming to Hixon Green and have made a habit of coming at least a couple of times a week! Now part of the furniture, the staff all recognise us and are always so welcoming and friendly! A big shoutout to Lee, who is always a friendly face and gives us great service! I’ll probably be back again tomorrow!

Visited again today. Very busy. Lovely selection of cakes, my favourite was banoffee, probably my top cake until today. The decor is modern and nice. Breakfast here is really good too! Update in April 2022: Over the last year I have visited about 5 times. I used to love it 3 years ago, but as of recently, the members of staff have been very rude on several different occasions. Possibly not well managed? Not sure what happened. The food here is nice. I recommend Cafe Coho that’s next to Hixon Green. Food there is great and the staff is super nice and friendly!

Tasty food and good quality nice portion friendly staff. All coming from management system specially their very good manager. Carpark next to the restaurant is available and very cheap. As this is a very warm and pleasant environment which you can have good time together with your friends and family. For having a meal or drink. Quality of products are good, they have very friendly and knowledgeable staff so this is the reason you can high quality food and drink. I strongly recommend to use their services. All tourists and Brighton visitors should not miss this lovely cousin restaurant %100.

Really slow service detracts from anything positive. I came here with a friend and we ordered 1 cocktail each - the place was one third full but we waited 35 minutes and were about to walk out when the drinks finally arrived. Would hate to be here on a busy day!

Had a lovely dinner here tonight, under the new management. George took great care of us - 8 people, of which 4 were kids! Food was great, service from George and Findlay was fantastic - nothing was too much hassle. Defo coming back!!!🙏

Very nice place but terrible management, awful service. Staff doesn''t seem to bother to give any service or even welcoming. Waited almost an hour for my order but had nothing and had to leave hungry. Just a waste of time.

Terrible service. We felt as if we were in the way. It was not busy but took ages to have our order taken. My coffee arrived but we had to ask again for water. Brunch took so long that we left before it arrived! The lady at the next table waited 10mins for a menu (she had to ask for one) She left without ordering when she realised there was such a long wait ! We will not be returning.

Last minute office gathering took us to hire out the whole top floor Monday evening, greeted with drinks by a very polite host who kept us topped up while we enjoyed the freshly cooked buffet put on for us, well done just what we were expecting

We've visited Hixon Green on multiple occasions now and even though their meals are perhaps very very slightly more expensive than average - they deliver on quality but also quantity! A great selection of teas and quick service from ordering to table - a fab recommendation for brunch

I love Hixon Green and am very happy it's my local. My Mum and I frequently go there when she visits and we've always had charming and pleasant service and amazing cocktails (thanks Sal!). Would highly recommend a visit.

I have been there quite regularly for lunch, and it’s always been an amazing experience, lovely food, great service… until today, when we had to wait over an hour for drinks, 2h for food and between 30-40min to pay. Outrageous service, not to mention that the food was absolutely rubbish. The prices went up, the portions went down, and far from being tasty (black avocado on a very tiny slice of toast). Super disappointed and never returning ever again. Shame!

I booked a table online a couple of days ago for Sunday brunch. I added a special note asking for a table that will have enough room to accommodate for a buggy. I also followed this up with a call to reconfirm that they can fit a pram in. My friend had a baby a month ago and this was her first time back in a restaurant and the first time to see her since she became a mum . Arrived at the restaurant, I don’t think there was even a table reserved , never mind one for a buggy. The host looked puzzled when she saw the pram and pointed at the smallest table you can imagine. I raised the issue of space , and I received a blank stare in return . No apology or alternative was offered , we decided to sit outside and after 10 mins sitting in the freezing cold nobody even looked in our direction. The place wasn’t heaving ,I worked in hospitality for years , and one thing is for sure, this is not how you treat your customers . We didn’t have a choice but to leave and instead of having a nice and relaxed reunion we had to walk around in the middle of Sunday brunch time to find somewhere to eat. An important Sunday truly ruined by Hixon Green ! If you don’t know how to treat people , don’t work in hospitality . Truly appalling service and treatment .
