Hispania tasty by Mavi in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

A lovely hidden gem, serving amazing authentic tapas. We came for lunch and were very satisfied with all the dishes served. Great sized portions and all very tasty. A stand out was the aubergine fritters with honey. Truly delicious, I've not had this dish done so well since visiting Tapeo tapas bar in Barcelona (if you've been you'll know how good that place is!). Will definitely be back for more! Also, the decor inside is very well done and service excellent. Highly recommended.

I’ve been in Cornwall for 2 months, and this is by far the best food I’ve eaten. Navi is a wonderful host, and the restaurant has a great atmosphere. My biggest concern, is while the restaurant and food is superb and in a great location, I’m not sure it’s getting the business it deserves. Please try it. We had a gorgeous array of tapas and a glass of wine each for lunch. You won’t be disappointed!

Lovely little Spanish restaurant run by Spanish people. We had tapas and especially liked the croquettes! My wife is from Spain and was very impressed. Also a striking location under the rail bridge and interesting decor inside.

The most authentic Spanish restaurant in the area. We had a lovely Spanish Sauvignon with our tapas early evening. Can't believe we've missed this little gem of a restaurant; can't wait to come back in May!

Lovely place to eat , it was our first time, but it definitely will not be our last.

Lovely food is quite authentic and very tasty. Good selection of wines,beers, and spirits. Cocktails are available, which is a nice touch. It doesn't have a very Spanish feel to the place, which is a shame. Restaurant is not very warm, which has always been a problem in this building in the winter. Well, worth a visit

First time going as the reviews hype this up but we waited 22 minutes for them to serve us meanwhile 2-3 tables after us got served and food. Made eye contact with everyone who passed but no one came. Will not be coming back. Felt ignored.

Lovely food and lovely wine, very relaxed atmosphere. We had a selection of the tapas dishes.

Dined out here with family, and we loved the cosy waterside venue, drinks and friendly service. However, we were slightly disappointed in our paellas considering the rave reviews. The risotto rice seemed a bit undercooked and the seafood didn't have a single scorch mark on it -- don't they grill seafood in Cornwall? The portions were also small

We had high hopes but were sadly disappointed. The starters we had - croquettes and patatas bravas were bland and without spice or imagination. Perhaps the cost of produce is getting too high as the quality here is lacking. The staff are lovely though.

Having worked in hospitality myself for well over 25 years, I was absolutely astounded at how fabulous our waitress, Laura was. She clearly takes her job very seriously and it shows. We went for dinner there and had two awkward eaters in our party. One vegan (me) and one gluten free. They couldn't have been more accommodating. I've been to many restaurants recently and been served average but ok food by disinterested staff. The staff at Hispania are the polar opposite. Simply wonderful. Great food, great service, great location, excellent value. Give yourself a treat and visit.

Utterly brilliant Halloween night meal. Staff totally went the extra mile to make it a spooky experience. All were dressed up and the who evening was almost a cabaret in itself. Food was great, but tonight was totally about the dining "experience", and we absolutely LOVED IT! 😍 XX

Lovely food and friendly staff. Mavi is bringing the essence of Spain to these ends and it's delightful. The tortilla tasted like mashed potato so I am hoping that was a one off, but everything else was delicious.

We heard only very good things prior to dining at Hispania tasty by Mavi this evening, and I can attest that they are very firmly founded! A wonderful location opposite the old ferry slipway with lovely views across the Tamar coupled with a warm welcome, excellent service and tapas that is phenomenal! I cannot wait to visit again in the near future to explore the menu further.

If you want something a little different then this is the place to visit. . Whilst seeing my friends in Plymouth/Saltash I was treated to an evening meal at Hispania tasty by Mavi. . The first thing you notice on arrival is the venue's warm rustic character. The restaurant is steeped in history having been a pub for centuries and the new owners have captured the venue's character whilst injecting some traditional Spanish flare. . Attention to detail throughout the venue continues once you are seated at your table. The tables are a real feature in the restaurant, each providing something different. Each table includes a glass top, which acts as a cover for individually designed items that sit beneath the glass (see photo). . The menu includes tapas and all the traditional Spanish delights that you would expect. We chose the 5 dish sharing tapas and this was more than enough for 3 adults and each dish was presented excellently. . The price of the food was extremely good value and the total price paid (with a 12.5% tip) was just £60! . Outside there is a lovely seating area, which would make the perfect outside dining location on a warm evening. . Given the venues location you are surrounded by the Victorian engineering of the Royal Albert Bridge and the 1960s Tamar Bridge. When the train passes over the bridge you can feel the vibrations in the venue, which adds to the character and environment. . In summary, this is a lovely venue and an excellent experience. If you get the chance, check it out.

Absolutely blown away by this little corner of Spain in Saltash! It was our wedding anniversary and we were made to feel so welcome! The service was impeccable, very friendly place. The food just took me back to my Spanish heritage - authentic food! The wine list is also amazing! I really recommend you try this hidden gem - make sure you book as the word is getting out ❤️

Don’t believe a word of anyone who says this place is not absolutely great, it is just what poor old Saltash has been longing for. It is so good that we are going to have lunch there again this week, and we were there only yesterday. I understand it is not every Cornish persons idea of what a Sunday lunch should be, but if you are after amazing and authentic Spanish food prepared by highly trained & experienced Spanish chefs, then there is none better & no need to look any further. The serving staff are locals and what a charming and friendly lot they are too. With regards to variety & cost, again first class. We 4 had 2 bottles of excellent Rioja, Tapas, Paella, deserts, coffee, and gave a 10% tip, it came to exactly £50 per head, how great is that. In case you are wondering, I’m not related to or have any financial interest in the restaurant, just a keen interest to patronise a superb business providing the very best to us hungry diners. See if what I say isn’t true. !

Authentic Spanish tapas. Nestled on the Cornish side of the Tamar you'll find the small nondescript doorway that leads to this stunning restaurant serving traditional tapas all cooked fresh from the kitchen in the corner. Unlike the flavours the portions are untraditionally large and made for sharing. Don't order too many dishes to begin with! Place is spotless in cleanliness and service is friendly and efficient adding to the relaxed atmosphere. Genuine photos of the food with names on to identify the dishes accompany the menu so you know exactly what you're ordering. If you like Spanish food this is the place to try out.

I'm slightly confused about all the raving reviews. Unfortunately I found Hispania to be overpriced and be more about quantity than quality. Being a big lover of tapas and having tried many Spanish restaurants in the UK and in Spain, I was disappointed with what I felt was very plain tasting and easily replicated food. Having sat outside, there was also a feeling that the Hispania decor was not finished, leaving me questioning why I was being charged so much. Love authentic tasty Spanish tapas, yet just sad to see 'Just Be' gone! No complaints with service at all, with friendly enough staff.

Great food great people lovely family run business

We went here for my wife's birthday, and we were all really impressed by Hispania: I think Saltash is very lucky that Mavi decided to open her restaurant here. It was lovely inside, the food was excellent, and the service was possibly even better. I was rather picky about the wine, but the staff were endlessly understanding and kind, replacing a glass I didn't like with one I did, and not charging a penny for having done so. The best complement I can pay the food is that it really did remind us all of happy times eating out in Spain. Much of it was quite simple, but in the best possible way, and all of it was beautifully cooked. Also, the portions for the tapas were excellent. I must confess that before we went I thought the menu seemed quite expensive, but honestly, five dishes of tapas were as much as four of us could manage to eat, so in fact it all felt like good value, especially considering what a lovely experience it was. It looks like Mavi reads these reviews, so I'm going to add a little request... We have fond memories of all the amazing bread you can buy in Spain, so we were wondering if you might consider introducing some lovely Spanish-type bread as an accompaniment for some of the tapas? The prawns and meatballs both came in amazing sauces that were just begging for some nice bread to soak them up. Anyway, it was a great meal, and we will definitely be going back again soon!

We had Tapas here for lunch, we were going to go for the 5 combo but the waitress recommended the 3 as the portions are huge. She was spot on, 3 was perfect. We couldn't fault anything. Delicious, friendly service, very well priced. Would recommend to anyone and will return.

We had the opportunity to have lunch with my girlfriend last weekend. I can't recommend enough the place. Food was delicious, really good portions, and the staff/atmosphere was great. It felt like actually being in Spain enjoying plates from its different regions, many thanks to Mavi and Ruben, will be back for sure with more friends to enjoy it!

We felt the main courses were overpriced . They served us a bottle of white wine warm ☹️. The tapas that we had for starters was reasonably priced and lovely.

Went for lunch today and the quality of the food and service was incredible! Everything on the menu is gluten free so even better. Would recommend to anyone, the portions are enormous. All the staff were so friendly 10/10 - what a little gem 😊

This restaurant is a gem!! We were with friends eating and they treated us like we were family. The dishes are exquisite, and the quality of the products is evident. My favorite dishes are garlic shrimp and seafood soup.

Great, authentic food - just like my yaiya and tia used to make! Really great service even though they were so busy and great atmosphere. Will definitely be back. Try the sangria and save yourself some time and get the jug. Get the chorizo from the tapas menu too!

Booked an evening meal for 6 as had family to stay. Had a lovely evening with really great food and wine. I am really excited for this new restaurant in Saltash and will be back for more.

Have now experienced 2 great evenings at Hispania tasty by Mavi, tonight we had Paella and Sangria (with a couple of PX's) and it didn't disappoint!! Such a great addition to the Saltash scene!!

2 of us visited for lunch today. It was wonderful food and service and a great Spanish atmosphere. Will definitely return😊
