Hing Tai in Edinburgh, City of

I visited your restaurant this evening tues 2nd January and found the food to be very unpleasant, it was cold and tasteless. Unfortunately won’t ever be back. After phoning to complain the person I spoke to didn’t seem interested.

Won't be ordering again on a Friday. Watery soup, chips that had obviously been re-fried, fried rice with a greasy sheen on it. Not up to their normal standard at all!

We ordered for delivery and it came before the estimate. Good flavours and very succulent lemon chicken. We ordered the meal for 3 and couldn’t finish it. Ribs were good and the chicken curry (which I don’t usually order from a Chinese restaurant) was great. Huge bag of good quality prawn crackers. Will order again. Rosco

We get Takeaway from here every few weeks and its normally fab, but tonight was very disappointing. Chips very greasy and seem like they had been fried twice over. The sweet n sour chicken is batter was over cooked and therefore VERY crispy. When we collected order we thought the guy at front of house was unsure of what he was doing and not the normal happy lady we normally speak to. Just wondered if this was under new management.

Delivery time almost always fast. (Faster than the online couriers indicate). Food reasonably priced. Meals are always to par. (Never cold, spilt, dropped)

I was supposed to have a bbq wing but I got a honey pearl and it was totally fine

Orderded bbq chicken wing got honey wings. Went in to get a refund got challenged saying they do “light” bbq sauce,Theres a diffecence between their sauce and everyone elses. Also theres a massive difference between bbq and honey. Didnt bother with a refund and argue with one of the girls. DONT recommend it.

My husband Paul ordered food over the phone when the meal came after 1 hour 40mins they forgot the sauce for one of the meals it was dry and horrible and had a bone in the chicken when I called up all I was offered was a larger sauce next time we order but after going there for years and many mistakes we have had enough.

My delivery was delivered to my neighbour two doors away. Fortunately they realised it wasn't for them and after asking round they figured out it was ours. Thanks Hing Tai for our mildly warm food 👍

Chicken fried rice and beef fried noodles for takeaway. Eating it at home is very authentic Hong Kong. Delicious and very high CP value. Will eat again tomorrow.

I use this Takeaway when I visit my brother in Edinburgh, great food and great service, nothing else to say.

Curry sauce is thin and tasteless. Asked for no pork in the special curry, got pork. Chicken is in little bits and I think it's thigh rather than breast. Perfectly edible but disappointing. Wouldn't order again.

Best Chinese I've had in a long time, delicious quality chicken and sauces, rice spot on also. Couldn't fault it.

This takeaway is thee best, I've had several deliveries from here fast service, friendly staff but most of all the food is absolutely delicious.

My family have loved this place for years! We live just around the corner and can never resist a takeaway from here every once in a while. Food is excellent, service is superb! Great Chinese takeaway.

Whether it's been curry, noodle or fried rice I've always enjoyed my meal from here. Friendly staff who always have a smile, recognisable even through a mask. They do a mean omelette too. Definitely recommend.

Stayed in Edinburgh for 3 nights, one evening we decided to order a Chinese and was lovely. If we lived in Edinburgh we would return and order from there again!

Worst salt and chilli dishes I have ever tasted. The chips had barely any salt and only had a few bits of chilli throughout. The chicken was just as bad with literally no chilli actually covering the bland battered chicken. Worst chinese hands down that I have had in the city and thats not a joke.

This place should be renamed Honk Ing. I thought I'd try a new restaurant tonight so I ordered Salt and Chilli Chips from here. These chips were literally cold, hard chips covered in salt and a chilli chopped on the top. When I called to see if I was given plain chips by mistake I was informed that's just how they do them 🤷‍♀️. No apology, no offer of anything else nadda. Just Eat did however refund the £8.10 it cost for 2 portion of chips so I'm off back to Good Chinese to order something edible.

probably one of the worst Chinese’s round here and we have tried a fair few! curry sauce was sweet and sickly, the noodles were limp and tasteless, chicken really dodgy and it was all a bit cold. overall really disappointing sorry.

Food was on time based on estimate but still took an hour to arrive. They were very accommodating when we asked to switch for curry sauce with the chicken balls. The sweet and sour crispy beef was terrible. Not at all crispy, soggy with next to no sauce. The food was swimming in grease.the duck spring roll had no duck and just bean sprouts. I didn't really eat any of it Won't be back

Unfortunateky the squid was far to over cooked and was extremely rubbery, ruining the meal. Had to leave all the squid so that was a waste of money

One of the nicest Chinese meals I've had in a long time. Very fresh tasting with vegetables. Kung Po chicken didn't come battered on the menu but they offered to do this for us and I was very impressed at their service. Will definitely return.

Very disappointing. Late delivery, no apology, bags containing spring rolls and chips were soaking wet for some reason, main sweet and sour prawn dish was tasteless and stuck together in a soggy mess, sauce was almost non existent. I couldn’t eat it,

The first time having a take away from here and I am glad to say I am looking forward to another. Having tried many other local take away, this meal was full of flavour, reasonable price and a very good choice. The staff, or should I say , the family are welcoming and helpful with choices and allergies.

Had to phone twice after quoted delivery time to enquire about delivery. 2 hours total, no apology given.

Ordered from here based on ratings but never again. The chicken satay and chicken with oyster sauce tasted exactly the same - revolting and incredibly sweet. No satay flavour at all and the chicken was a horrible consistency. Prawns were supposed to come in a light batter but the batter was way too thick and the prawns were chewy. Salt and chilli beancurd was soooo dry and tasteless with the same thick batter as the prawns. The salt and chilli chips must've been reheats. # The restaurant did deliver a replacement prawns and 2 chicken dishes but they weren't any better 2nd time round! Overall a hugely disappointing experience and not a cheap one as the total order was £60. Not good enough.

First time we have ordered here and won’t be the last spring rolls were amazing and the chicken curry was great the chicken in the sweet and sour was a bit salty but was okay and it was the best fried rice I have ever tasted. The delivery guy was friendly and polite and on time

When it arrived the food was cold and wet. Surprising given the number of positive reviews, unless they've been bought. I guess in future I should only pay attention to reviews where someone has bothered with a meaningful comment. It's unlikely I'll be ordering from here again.

Loved it here. Not my first Chinese food experience. We had two pork dishes with rice. Wonderful taste, didn’t wait too long, maybe 10 mins. They have chairs to sit on there too. Also got complimentary rice crackers (yummy!) from the owner. So sweet 💞

Food was terrible. “ special fried rice” was just fried rice with cloudy bbq sauce with rubbery bits of meat. Will not order from Here again

Rude driver. It was 30mins early and he said he couldn’t gain access for 10mins yet never tried to contact me directly and moaned that he “had other deliveries”. I then received my notification, to say the food was on route, well after I had finished eating it... Won’t be ordering again as the driver was hostile and it was an uncomfortable experience. I called to report this too.

Food wasn't very warm and was pretty tasteless. Definitely avoid the salt and chilli tofu, it was soggy and chewy and not at all nice. Udon and fried rice were okay but not very flavourful still. Would not order from here again.

food is normally good but today it arrived 35 minutes late and was ‘warm’ which isn’t ideal- delivery driver said they were busy, but why not change delivery time to reflect this?

First time we ordered it was exceptionally great, but very late. Second time around ok, timing and quality. Third time around, on time but awful. The squid had gone from lightly dusted with flour to wearing a pulpy, gewey coof riceflour and water 4 times the size of the squid piece. Duck Pancake starter -- the duck came as one piece (not pre-shredded), and was underdone on the inside, so could not shred (and barely chew off the bone). Spent 1/2 hour slicing pieces off with a knife. Chow Mein very oily. Not sure we don't want to go back to up-market one a bit further up the road in Canonmills.

Lovely meal again. I'll be ordering again soon.

High quality food, excellently prepared, at a great price. Loved the Squid, the Hong-King Style Chow Mein, the Crispy Seaweed, the Duck Springroll, the Spareribs (none of those sticky Sauces on it), and even the fried rice was unusually spiced and lovely. The only disappointment was the 'Satay' dish -- the Satay sauce is not very 'Satay-ey' (pale colour and barely tastes of peanuts). If it were up to me, I'd ad a tbsp of pure crunchy peanut-butter. Delivery time was 1.5 hours, take that into account (on a Saturday night); but it is a reflection of the food quality.

Only five minutes late but 15 minutes after I was told it was en route from less than a mile away. The food was nice but not hot - I had to heat it up in the microwave.

Very quick delivery, everything hot and very tasty!

Chicken was overcooked and had a watery taste, Sauce was not even and was not really nice, However delivery and rice was spot on.

Sauce with Chicken Curry was rather thick and had a uneven flavour- Some being watery at some bits and too spicy at other, The chicken was quite stingy and lacked any taste. Otherwise, The rice was good.

chips weren’t great and hot and sour soup was good but was not lot of veg or anything in it 1 tiny prawn 3bits of meat and few bits of carrot. steak was lovely tho and gravy was really nice would order again

Just had an order delivered. Everything in the bag was covered in grease, and the sauce from ribs had leaked everywhere. The spring roll was totally soggy and pretty much just filled with oily bean sprouts. The 2 different beef dishes we got were pretty much identical, but one tasted of nothing and the sauce was more like jelly, the other had some flavour - there was no way to tell which was supposed to be which (one peking, one honey and chilli), so it was a guessing game to figure out which one was which (mine went on my rice, but turned out it was probably the other one and should have been for my wife’s noodles, so that annoyed us). At least the delivery was quick.

Chose restaurant because of good vegetarian bean curd options. After ordering restaurant called to say they had no bean curd. I chose a cheaper vegetable dish which although had a chilli next to it for spice it didn't taste like much and was heavily bulked with bean sprouts. I didn't get the meal price difference refunded or anything freebie to make up for it. The other meat dishes ordered however were enjoyed

Sadly very dull food, colourless, greasy, soggy. Disappointed and wouldn't bother again as although not overly expensive too much for what is on offer.

Excellent piping hot tasty food.

Ordered Crispy Shredded beef in honey chilli sauce and Crispy Shredded Chicked in honey chilli sauce, bbq spare ribs, Crispy seaweed, fried rice. Neither the beef or the chicken was anywhere near crispy, both very soggy and with no hint of any chilli despite being advertised as spicy on the menu. Seaweed was soggy half fried big chunks of kale, spare ribs were ok but BBQ sauce was like water. The fried rice was good but who wants to eat just rice! On the plus side it came on time!

This is the first time I have ordered from Hing Tai and sadly I was very disappointed. Barbecued spare ribs were very tough, tasteless, and were in a pale, watery and tasteless sauce which did not remotely resemble the rich sauce I would normally expect. Chicken chow mein consisted of a portion of greasy noodles with a solid lump of chicken pieces on top. The chicken was dry, and the vegetables were missing entirely. It's the first time ever that I've had takeaway chow mein with no vegetables or beansprouts, and all three portions were exactly the same. The salt and chilli chips and the curry sauce were passable at best, and both only luke warm. The prawn crackers were tough and arrived in an open paper bag, so not good. All in all it was incredibly disappointing at best, and really very offputting. To be honest, had I known in advance how unpleasant the entire meal would be, I wouldn't have bothered ordering. It was a total waste of over £27 and spoiled the beginning of our weekend, and if Just Eat or Hing Tai would like to issue a full refund I would feel entirely justified in accepting it. The one good point was the delivery driver who was polite and pleasant, but the meal itself had no good points at all. A definite fail, Hing Tai.

This Chinese is near my boyfriends house and we order all the time. Food always arrives hot and we have never had an issue with our orders. I think it’s family run. Shop is clean on the inside and it’s the expensive. Best Chinese in Edinburgh!!!
