Thought we would try this curry house after visiting Bridgnorth on 1940s weekend. Used to visit 35 years ago. Ordered popadoms to start. These were crispy , however had to pay extra for the sauces. The mango chutney was tasteless, the onion was thick and chunky ( prefer small chopped onion ) The yogurt dip was revolting. Tasteless and had numerous different hairs in it , evidently from different people! From black to short blonde to long blonde to ginger yuk! This sauce must been used time after time and recycled to the next customer. Very disappointed and you should be absolutely ashamed to serve recycled food. The chicken curry contained MSG This kept me awake all night. The nan was tasty Overall disappointed 😞

Excellent food. Was one of the only places open for food in Bridgnorth on a Sunday night. Hadn’t intended to have a curry but we were pleased we did. Food lovely (Biriyani and Chicken Kashmiri) reasonably priced and staff friendly. Would go again!

I wasn’t going here but the aroma in the street made me look at the menu in the window. 2 poppadoms and a very fresh chutney tray, the most tender best lamb tikka starter I have ever tasted and a Tandoori Biriani with a lovely vegetable curry. I decided to have a man and again it was so fresh, light crispy and fluffy, I haven’t one as good as this before. All washed down with a cold Cobra I couldn’t finish the meal no surprise but it was so tasty and fresh will 100% call again.

I’ve read a few bad reviews and really can’t understand why! Were we in the same restaurant? Our curry was one of the best I’ve had - and good curry is my favourite food. We had a selection of dishes, chicken, lamp & vegetable; all were amazing. The service was prompt and the staff friendly.

Probably just had one of the worst Indian meals ever. Bahjis were tasteless, as was the accompanying sauce. My Wifes' main meal was basically a spices up tomato puree and was much hotter than the 'medium' the waiter told her it was going to be. My Madras was also pretty much tasteless due to the extremely hot spices (probably a Vindaloo +). We were the only people in the restaurant and got hurried through each course. Ended up only managing to eat half our mains. Just to top it off, the Nan was burnt and dry. Very expensive based on the poor content. Not going near the place again.

It’s won the best curry house in Shropshire for several years. I’ve been to all the Indian restaurants in Bridgnorth and they don’t even compare. This restaurant provides average Asian food at average prices followed with coffee that is literally undrinkable. The seating accommodation is out of a 1950's Tea Room and the staff although very friendly are not fully cognisant with English. The air con unit is from a freezer unit and car parking is'nt easy if you do not know Bridgnorth. We will not be making another visit.

Had a look online at their takeaway menu and rang in an order. I calculated the total to be just over £25. When I called in to collect I was asked for £28 odd. I was told that the website was out of date. Eventually, and rather relectantly, they agreed to meet my price. The sheek kebab I had for starter was ok but my partner's chicken chat was insipid, watery and akin to a weak soup.Ok, now both mains were really terrible, I mean the worst! The chicken tikka masala was so tasteless it was untrue. Plenty of chicken but the sauce was incredibly bland. Same for the Dopiaza, just a bland mix of chicken and onion. We tried each others dishes and both were tasteless. The overwhelming taste was of vinegar. The type of taste one gets from a lot of the off-the-shelf curry pastes and cook at home sauces. They even murdered the sides! Chips were obviously hand-cut and were the size of roast potatoes and were stodgy. The naan breads were cold and rock-hard, like leather. We ate what we could and I rang the restaurant to ask whether their curries were cooked from scratch or from jars. I was assured that all ingredients were fresh. When I complained to the "manager" that this was the worst curry I had ever eaten , he cooly replied " thank you", quite unbelievable. I was offered no refund /replacement or credit. We will chalk this one down to experience and never return.I wish you better luck if you choose to try them out yourself. Perhaps the plethora of certificates in their window were earned before this particular chef was given employment.

There are very few restaurants remaining where your coat is hung up for you and retrieved without a prompt. The service was as good as the food - excellent. Tasty and fresh, the food was served hot not luke warm, and abundant. The remains of our meal was 'doggy bagged' with a smile, and was almost as good the following day. I will return in the near future. I have no hesitation in recommending this establishment - not surprising they are award winners, Superb meal.

We arrived at 7.20 to meet friends here for a 7.30 booking and were left standing in a crowded entrance way for over 20 minutes before anyone acknowledged our presence. We were eventually shown to a table which hadnt been prepared for us and a further 20 minutes before we managed to get some attention so we could order drinks. Despite us sitting next to the service only bar still took a further 10 to 15 minutes to recieve the drinks. It was exceptionally busy doing takeaways and as the food is freshly prepared i correctly anticipated a long wait after we eventually got someone to take our order. For an award winning resteraunt the food was no better than other resteraunts in the area. The service was totally appalling. The bill was presented to our table indicating that our meal was over despite us still having drinks and not asking for it. On checking the bill there was a £7.00 overcharge which was corrected on challenging it. All in all not an enjoyable dining experiance and will not return.

Visited on a quiet Monday night. No other guests. Seated in the first table near the bar where the staff wait. We felt this was too intrusive. We visited for a quiet meal to discuss private matters and were unaware that we would be so close to staff at being seated. Did not want to be rude and ask to move so we accepted this. Then we were asked if we had finished poppadoms as main course was ready! Felt as if we were intruding on their night. Waiters stood at end of bar and we felt a little uncomfortable. Food itself was lovely. Very tasty and high quality. We ate very quickly however, as we felt that we could not relax. Such a shame. The guys were lovely but just there all the time. Our conversation was quite stilted due to this. Really loved the menu but not a chilled experience. Sorry guys!

There has been a curry house here for as long as I can remember but this was my first visit. We had heard a lot of good things about this restaurant, so we decided to try it. We went for the set menus: the Himalaya Special and the veggie Shankar Special. My husband was fairly happy with his meal: Tandoori Chicken, Onion Bhaji, Poppadom, Chicken / Meat Masalam, Vegetable Curry, Pilau Rice, but I found mine: Vegetable Samosa, Poppadom, Nawabi Vegetable, Sag Bhaji, Dhal, Tarka, Pilau, extremely bland and dull. The samosa was nearly all potato and no spice, the Nawabi dish was very greasy and the Dhal was extremely runny. The best part of the meal was the very good coffee. The many waiters kept hovering around us, which was irritating as my husband is a slow eater. For us, it was a disappointment and some of the M&S; curries I've eaten were tastier. However, the place was full and the diners around us only had good things to say about the food, so perhaps we'll give it another try later on.

Got to agree with the “Very Bland” review also. Wife’s main Rogan Josh was was watery and too Hot (chilli). Fair enough they took it away and replaced it with a fresh dish, heat sorted, but unfortunately it was still below average in quality, as looked and tasted like tomato soup. Needless to say it didn’t get eaten. My dish Chicken Tikka Sagwalla, was also very watery and lacking in flavour. I would normally expect curry dishes to be rich and thick, flavoured with aromatic herbs and spices, neither of which were. Garlic Naan was nicest part of order.

We visited here last night on a spur of the moment decision. We hadn't booked but didn't think it necessary on a Monday night. We were the first ones in and were greated by a friendly waiter who let us pick our table. The service was excellent and the food was even better. We ordered 2 poppadoms which came with 4 different and plentiful dips. We had two starters, chicken chat and shahi kebab. Both were of exceptional quality. We ordered, 2 currys, garlic nan, special fried rice and chips. The chips were outstanding, the best chips we have ever had. In all honesty, the currys were fantastic, the nan was big enough to share and the rice was tasty with lots of different ingredients in it. As the starters were pretty big, we couldn't eat all of our main, but they were happy to put it in takeout containers for us to take home. An absolutely fantastic meal, we will be returning soon.

Me, my wife and 11 year old daughter went for an early evening meal on a saturday. I've always liked the character of the Himalaya with it's nooks and crannies. This time we were seated by the window opposite to the bar. I've never had a bad meal from here, it's no fuss great Indian food. We had the poppadoms with the salad and dips, and my daughter had the chicken tikka masala, my wife had the half a tandoori chicken with salad, while I had the chicken tikka jalfrezi. We shared some special fried rice, cauliflower bhaji, and the legendary "Delhi Dave's" chips. (Dave is the owner). The chips are thick cut crinkle ones, home made and bloody lovely. I don't like my food mega spicy, but my jalfrezi had just enough fresh chilli's in to make it interesting! We all had a nice desert as well, and the draught lager went down well. In my opinion, The Himalaya is the best Indian in Bridgnorth, and well worth a visit.

We have been going to this restaurant over quite a few years. at first everything was exceptional. A few years back they had a refurb. At that point service went downhill. Also at that point they hiked the prices up, presumably to pay for it. What was being sold as draught lager was poured under the counter at the bar from cans - what brand I don't know. We haven't been to the restaurant for a few years as we were put off. The Dilraz opposite had better food, had just had a refurb, but they didn't put their prices up, obviously had better business sense. This weekend we decided to try The Himalaya again as things can get better. We won't rush back, although the food was not awful, it was definitely average. Service was okay, but not great. The prices are well over the top - a tandoori mixed grill was nearly £12, I have an Indian meal every week and they range from £8-£9. This came with a plain naan. Preferring a keema naan I asked for them to substitute one for the other. Most restaurants take the extra few pennies difference, at worst charge you the difference - I fully accept this, but Himalaya charged me an extra £3.00 the price of a separate item. My rather overpriced, rather dry mixed grill had turned into a very expensive £15.00. Shame on you Himalaya.

We live in Wolverhampton and Indian food is our favourite, and its safe to say we have tried many many Indians in our time, including all of the Indians in the Bridgnorth area - this is the best we have ever had. David and his team are exceptionally attentive, the service could not be better. But for us its all about the food, we will continue to travel for miles as it is 100% worth it. Highly recommend the David Special King Prawn starter, it is sensational!! Our favourite restaurant ever. Could not recommend more.

You don't have to be a regular here to experience the Himalaya's fantastic service and food! There's every curry you could ask for, and even a lighter option for those watching their figure! Their Chicken Tikka Balti with Mushrooms is amazing, fresh crinkle chips too. Best Indian restaurant in town

Called in after the cinema, and had a lovely meal. Had a lamb saag and a lamb biriyani and the lamb was so tender, plus a butter chicken and a chilli chicken masala, plus rice, Manasseh paratha, etc. They were all beautifully cooked, well presented, and the service was excellent..It' was very good value especially as the ,mains were two for one.Really enjoyed it and would return again.

Went on Saturday with a group of friends. The food and service was faultless. We were lucky enough to have a little self contained area. The staff were helpful and attentive. The wine was reasonably priced and the staff went out of their way to provide us with proper wine glasses instead if the cheap goblet ones. They recommended dishes and service was timed perfectly. All our dishes were lovely I can't fault anything. Some of our group had their dishes spiced up to individusl taste. All our friends loved it. This place has overtaken Saros by miles. Service is excellent staff knowledgeable and friendly and prices very reasonable. Thank you Himalaya for another great evening. If you like Indian you will love this.

So relieved to find a good Indian after several disappointing meals at Saros. We had a takeaway last week. Front of house recommended lovely dish for me as I don't like too spicy. Really nice meat good chunky breast meat tasty not too spicy sauce. Excellent poppadoms. Good service ok price. Looking forward to visiting again.

We have recently moved to the area and found this restaurant almost by accident. I am very glad we did. Whether you are eating in or ordering a takeaway, the service is friendly and welcoming and the food is good. Certainly somewhere that we expect to be visiting often.

Have visited this restaurant several times over the last few years and never got around to writing a review for it, which I am now putting right. We are in Bridgnorth two or three times a year and nearly always call in for something to eat before heading off home. We are always greeted in a very friendly, polite and courteous manner. The service has always been first rate and attentive without being OTT and they are very child friendly. The meals (most importantly) are also very good and as we have found over a period of time, they are also consistently good. There are other choices of Indian restaurant in Bridgnorth all of which we have tried, but there is something good about this place that keeps pulling us back.

We dropped by here following a local recommendation. Despite it being a busy evening we were seated immediately (7 of us) and generally well looked after including the recognition of dietary requirements. The owner accommodated a request for a meal for 7 of us at a competitive rate. £15/head Despite some reservations, the food arrived quickly an was of an excellent standard. (Especially the onion bhaji's) highly recommend this establishment.

We ordered our meal. Waitress was friendly, and she was efficient.A man took our order, and said that they only had vegetable samosa, which I had. They were just vegetables in pastry, with no spices at all. They were tasteless. The main course of biryani was also tasteless with lack of spices. The lamb vindaloo, which my husband ate, caused him to be up, unwell, in the night.I would never go back here.

Had 3 curries from this restaurant this evening, the meat tasted cheap and rubbery, the madras had very little heat to to it, and i mean both temperature and spice. The kormas we had were watery. Will definitely not be returning, nor will i be recommending to others

Me and my partner frequent the Himalaya or have a takeaway atleast once a month. We have pretty standard dishes : vindaloo/tikka massala. The vindaloo is very tasty and is a progressive heat. Not just one where they just heap spoonfuls of chilli powder on. It is delicious and without doubt the best curry house in in bridgnorth. (Don't understand how Saros is above the Himalaya?) My partner has the tikka massala and always clears it despite her being quite a fussy eater. We always get a nice welcome from Dave and staff. I'm shocked to see the Himalaya so slow on TripAdvisor, but take that with a pinch of salt... You will get a lovely meal here. If I could change 1 thing it would be better draft lager or even an ale as Carslberg is a bit rubbish imo.

If you want a curry made with fresh ingredients, cooked from scratch, go here. It even makes a dish for Weightwatchers. I went this evening and had lovely service and completely fresh food. Each dish was a different colour, meaning it was not different ingredients cooked in the same masala sauce. The tarka dal with roti and veg curry is gorgeous. They love to cook you something to your liking if you don't fancy what is on the menu. Nothing is swimming in ghee and flavours stand out. It is well decorated, and bijou. I can't understand any negative review. I would recommend this to anyone, veggie, meat eater, slimmer galore.

All your Indian restaurant menu classics, generous portions with good quality ingredients, not too oily/salty and well balanced flavours. Particularly recommend lamb rogon josh and the keema naan is the best I've ever had.

We went to this restaurant on a busy Saturday night. Despite booking, when we arrived we were put on a very noisy table right by the kitchen which had a filthy table cloth, no menu, nothing. We were not offered menus or drinks for at least 10mins and when, eventually, we received our popadoms, we were still waiting to receive our drinks. We were then moved mid-way through this course to a (thankfully) somewhat better table. I felt uncomfortable throughout the meal as the proprietor was very moody and spoke to his staff in a derogatory manner. The food was fine, average. If you go here get a takeaway! The Dilraz across the street is far superior in every way!

The food was so tasty and service was great. I learnt they get their meat from a local butchers in bridgnorth and their eggs & veg from local farm stalls. Nice to see a business supporting local businesses! After trying the other Indian restaurants in the local area, this is by far the best! Will definitely return

I had a minor issue previously which was more than sorted in my next order. This meal OMG I cannot express how good it was. After my starter I was full half way through the main, but I could not stop, it was that good, so back to licking the dish :)

Used to enjoy Chicken Ceylon but evidently it is not the same dish anymore, perhaps the chef has changed but there is very little evidence of any coconut and it now tastes like any other curry dish. Disappointed.
