At the cafe I asked for one single coffee (nothing else) just for myself and was refused this in a regular cup, would only serve in a takeaway cup as it was 15:34 on a Sunday. They claimed this was due to closing soon. I found this unreasonable as I would have been literally 10 mins. Insult to injury was the woman in front of me was served hers in regular cups (multiple) and had sandwiches and other things to eat too. This person would have out stayed me in the cafe, needless to say the cafe was already full of people who weren’t leaving within 10 mins either. Bad skills - you’ve lost a customer here.

Update - all I can add is that I've given up on the cafe, no change! I'll remain visiting but for the garden centre and plants only. Lovely garden centre, plants are laid out in sections which is great for a novice gardener. They looked healthy and a good range and variety, a little expensive but what isn't these days! Low mark due to the cafe. The staff were friendly but the quality of the drink and food was poor, maybe a place to try for just cake and a soft drink. The coffee was weak and watery with little taste the bacon roll was something I'd expect to buy from a roadside food van. Greasy, cheap bread and fried. I'd definitely visit the garden centre again but not the cafe. Updated went yesterday, as before plants /look/staff are very nice, great selection of plants and shrubs and they look healthy, from previous purchases they last well. The cafe is shocking, no improvement and the quality of the drink was still poor. Although I didn't purchased food, there looked to be no change in quality there either, still looks like a roadside burger van quality, but boy one change is the extortionate pricing!! I'd rather pay those prices at a retail chain not an independent with poor quality product. It's the one element that let's the place down.

¡No podíamos creerlo!

Hilltop cafe needs to review its customer service. Went there as a family of six, but were forced to sit apart,as a member of staff said that we could not move a table together to make a table for six. They said that it was for health and safety reasons, the place was not busy, but there was another family in the cafe who had two baby chairs blocking the way for people to get past.We have never had a problem putting tables together in any other restaurants we have been to, we will definitely not be going there again.

Great garden centre for pot and plants, however I went today, after checking the open times on google, which said 17.30pm, we were told by staff at just before 16.00pm that we had one minute left and they were closing. The staff member then stood watching us so we took our items and paid at the till. The plain clothed lady at the check out was really rude and unprofessional, if owned this garden centre I would be really concerned about this person working in a customer service role and representing the garden centre. She had zero understanding that the opening hours online said 17.30pm and that we were completely unaware that the shop was closing at 16.00pm. Some of the younger staff members also seemed quite uncomfortable as they watched how she was behaving.

I really like this place. It's not part of a chain so a bit different to the usual. That said, obviously there are quite a few items you will find at all garden centres. It's not as big as a Blue Diamond or BGC and you won't find clothing, or much of a selection of food and homeware. Outside, the choice of mature trees was possibly the best we have seen and looked very good value. It's not lacking in garden plants but there's not as many as some centres. Again the prices were very good. Good offers at the moment on water features, there's also hard landscaping and good quality timber products. There's a very good play area for younger children, picnic tables etc. Good for us was a large area of maintained grass for the dog to stretch his legs, and he can also go into the under cover area of the restaurant. We ate here and enjoyed our shared meal, prices are quite reasonable compared other garden centres. The locals will know all this but we made a trip from Dudley hoping for the best and we weren't disappointed.

Never ever go to this Costa, it is beyond appalling; it is so disgusting, I'm struggling to put into words, my experience today. My husband and I popped along with my wheelchair-bound 91-year-old mother, for a little light lunch. We arrived at around 1:30 pm on Sunday 23rd of March 2025, to find the place surprisingly quiet. Given that it was a Sunday lunchtime, I would have expected the place to be alive with families and couples. We had in fact tried to find a table at the Lutterworth Costa, but it was so full, with no sitting room, we came along to this branch, hoping they would be able to squeeze us in. There were 3 members of staff on duty (2 young ladies and a young man), and only about 6 or 7 occupied tables, including us. We ordered 3 drinks and 2 toasted sandwiches and a toasted croissant. The food came quickly enough and was pleasant. After my mother had eaten half of her sandwich, she indicated she needed to go to the lavatory, and as she is in a wheelchair, I have to help her out with these things. We got up, and as I was heading towards the lavatories, the young man on duty, jumped ahead of us and said sheepishly, "I just need to check if they are clean". As it was so quiet, and there were 3 members of staff on duty, I was a bit surprised that this needed checking on first, but I just assumed he was being super-diligent. He turned back to us looking embarrassed, and I said "is it dirty?", to which he responded "yes" and then "lucky me". He walked to a nearby cupboard, collected a dustpan and brush, went ahead of us again, spent literally 10 seconds sweeping something from the floor, and then moved back to allow us to access. I pushed my mother's wheelchair in to, what can only be described as, the most disgusting public lavatory I've seen, in my 60 years of living. It sounds like it must be exaggerating doesn't it (so dramatic!) - but not only were the scraps of paper all over the floor, so much worse than that, there was urine everywhere. I don't just mean a little drop or two on the seat where somebody had not been careful, I mean the floor was literally swimming in urine, the toilet seat was covered in urine, the lavatory bowl had urine in it with no toilet paper, it was quite literally, like somebody had embarked on a highly successful 'dirty protest'. Now, as if this was not enough, the fact that this young man had seen the appalling mess, he clearly must've known what it was like, which is why he jumped ahead of me to "check", but then to think that it was acceptable for me to not only to walk into that disgusting room, but allow my 91-year-old disabled mother to sit on a toilet seat covered in urine, almost left me speechless with outrage. How dare you treat your paying customers with such disrespect, moreover, how dare you treat any other human being with such disrespect? It is unforgivable. There is no world in which I would allow anybody to be subjected to such a monstrous, nauseating experience, and the management at this specific Costa, should be either, immediately dismissed, or sent away on a course, to teach them the fundamental rights of human beings, and particularly how that relates in a hospitality setting. Surely, it is simple? Would you sit on a toilet covered in urine, while your feet sat in puddles of urine? Would you allow your 91-year-old disabled mother, or grandmother, to sit her behind on a urine covered toilet seat, while the wheels of her wheelchair wallowed in urine? You were not busy. When you opened up that morning, either, nobody bothered to look at the lavatories (not acceptable), or worse, looked at the lavatories, and could not be bothered to do anything about them (disgraceful). I would like to be charitable and think you just hadn't been aware of it, but you absolutely had, and had CHOSEN not to remedy this... otherwise, why did the young man jump in front of me, to ostensibly "check" the lavatories? We could not even use an alternative lavatory, because the only other available facilities had a huge hole in the door, and you could see right through to the toilet itself; making it "out of use". How can you think this is acceptable? I will be telling everybody I know, to avoid this abysmal excuse for a Costa, like the plague - lest they literally, catch some ungodly disease. Not only that, but why should ANYBODY come to visit you, when you, clearly, care nothing for your customers comfort, dignity and well-being? I don't imagine anything will be done about this, because your management cares nothing for the appalling experiences you subject your customers to; looking through your reviews, the disgusting state of your lavatories has been mentioned more than once, so you clearly read our comments and cheerfully ignore them; nobody takes it seriously, nobody remedies it, and there is nobody in 'management' who understands or cares one iota, about your guests' comfort. So I say again, why would anybody visit you, when there are so many other Costas, that do a great job? Rugby has a few Costas if I recall correctly, doesn't it? This place should be closed down, and the staff should find jobs elsewhere, not in hospitality! This is not a complex subject, even in the grottiest motorway service station, there's a piece of A4 paper stuck to the wall with times and 'checked' signatures... this is not beyond the wit of anybody with an IQ >50, so why can't you do this, bare minimum? I will not leave it here, I will contact your CEO and upper management, somebody needs to address this, otherwise you will absolutely have close, because customers are simply not going accept these abysmal standards, ad infinitum. Shame on you all, what an utterly disgraceful job you're doing. Next time you go and see a loved one, particularly a frail, elderly one, ask yourself if you would be perfectly happy for them to have to sit in somebody else's urine.

I've been looking forward to coming to this restaurant for years, but not had the chance. The service was brilliant, waiting staff were prompt, friendly and professional throughout. The food, however, was a disappointment. It was fine, but when mains are mostly around £28, I expected more than what was mediocre. Both of our mains were under seasoned, a lot of the veg was undercooked, my fish dish was badly conceived, with no sauce, the inclusion of a roasted parsnip and a no capers, despite them being on the menu. Our side came without one of the key ingredients (roasted carrots with orange and pistachio, with no pistachio), but these were refunded. I usually always say a meal is fine to waiting staff when they ask, but this time I did give some quite frank feedback, as the food is not good enough for the price. It was the first day of a new menu, however the some of the issues I experienced were not to do with the menu (cooking broccoli and properly seasoning food is not that difficult!) Altogether disappointing!
