It seems unreal that this place has only got a 3.5 rating. We live nearby, have visited for the past 20 years plus and have never had anything less than superb food. During covid lockdown the place became a bit of a tonic for us, driving up to collect excellent takeaways. We are lucky to have it on our doorstep.

I have known Hilltop Farm for many years - My mother (now aged 93) and stepfather used to come regularly; when it was a simple farm shop - they used to live in Naunton, Glos - when they could simply buy vegs, etc by weight - fresh or frozen. In recent years my husband and I have been a few times. My husband's niece got married there in 2022. We met my mother and brother there for lunch - she was in a wheelchair and I was recovering from severe abdominal surgery- in October last year (2023). The service was so lackadaisical and the staff were packing up around us so noisily that I swore that I would never go back again...! My father in law turned 90 earlier this year, thanks to further surgery; I was unable to attend his big family do. My husband, sister in law and her husband agreed that we would take him out to lunch as a belated celebration. They decided to book Hilltop Farm - I reminded my husband about our previous experience, but he overruled me. We duly turned up: I went to the ladies on the way in and reached the table just as the waitress had taken their orders for drinks - after much calling and gesturing, she turned around and took my drink order. After a while (no drinks) another waitress turned up for our food order. My husband and I ordered steak, chips, with mushroom and tomatoes. My Father in law and brother in law ordered fish and chips. My sister in law was delighted to see chicken Kiev on the daily specials menu, and duly ordered it. Then our drinks arrive, my sister in law asked for some table water, which was duly delivered (a small jug with 5 very small tumblers). Our food arrived. All seemed well, except, search as I did I could find no sign of grilled tomatoes or mushrooms, just a huge pile op UNDRESSED salad. The fish and chips were fine, as; indeed, were the steaks. However, my sister in law's "Chicken Kiev" (bear in mind that we have both been in catering for many years, and understand Chicken Kiev to be a chicken breast- with or without a wing bone, stuffed with HERBY GARLIC BUTTER and breadcrumbed) was presented with the most enormous chicken breast; looking really dry and stuffed with "normal stuffing" - horrible! We had booked the table for 12.30 and didn't leave until 3.30 - at no point were we offered another drink, or refill of our water. We had to request to have our table cleared ("We're very busy you know!!!" - I suggest you employ more staff to cope - or turn down bookings if you can't cope!) at no point were we asked how our meal was .... Basically I have sworn never to return -this place, having started out as a charming; family run business is now overpriced, over rated and over the hill!!! The only saving grace was the delicious teak and the fish and chips - not worth the journey or cost - I could find/cook both at home better

Beautiful setting, my first time here. Cafe looked great, it was busy as was outside. I was meeting with friends for breakfast. We had booked a table and ordered coffee's on arrival. We then ordered breakfast. The drinks took just over 45 minutes to arrive. We did enquire twice and was told they were on route. The breakfast came over an hour after we ordered and lets just say it was not the best. Service was terrible, food average. Views fabulous.

Hilltop Farm is simply fabulous. The views make you want to spend the day. My grandson loved the animals and park, plus it was perfect to run around safely. Our lunch was outstanding. Fish and Chips with a lovely portion of mushy peas and tartare sauce. The coronation chicken sandwich was bursting and the brie, bacon and cranberry ciabatta, both with coleslaw and chips were spot on. If you want really tasty fresh sausages for your children, this is the place to visit. The weather was perfect, service was first class, even bringing us a bowl of water for Dilly the dog. It is why we keep coming back.

Very poor service. My friend and I arrived at 10.30 a.m. yesterday (15.7.24). We were shown to a table and told a server would come and take our order. When no-one had done so after about 15 minutes I went to the counter and was eventually told someone would come to us. Finally a server came and we learnt they had no teacakes, no scones, no flapjacks - possibly one Eccles cake + otherwise it was just cake (very sweet looking layered, iced cakes?). We ordered tea. We continued to wait, watching the server clear and wipe several other tables although there was no queue waiting to be seated. At 11.05 there was still no sign of our tea and no apology for the delay so we walked out

Visited for Sunday lunch 14 January after having booked a table 3 days before.Firstly a waitress could not find our booking although another did being called for help.My wife and i both ordered the Sirloin beef which turned out to be so hard it could not be cut easily and was impossible to chew. After complaint we chose to have the pork which was very much the same.We decided not try a dessert. On paying the bill i was charged £20.95 per person for the one course although i had been quoted £18.95.The waitress was very apologetic and put it down to them having a new chef.Previously excellent now dreadful.Be warned.

We booked for a late lunch for my nephews birthday. Service was very slow food ok. We were not asked if our food was ok or if we wanted any more drinks. We were about to leave, we were waiting for other people to pay and leave as there as there was a queue at the till when all the lights were switched off, we were left completely in the dark to make our way out of the eating area. My nephew uses a wheelchair he had moved out of the wheelchair to sit at the dining table, my Mum has sticks and struggles to walk and we had a six month old in a pushchair, there were 11 of us in total a large number to try and negotiate around each other in the dark. No one had said to us they were about to close could we make our way to pay and leave, which was what we were naturally about to do anyway. It was very dangerous and a ridiculous thing to do, one of the party could quite easily have fallen in the dark without the added wheelchair, walking sticks and pushchair. The waitresses were very embarrassed and they said they had asked the elderly gentleman (owner?) who had scuttled into the kitchen if they could turn the lights back on and he had said no. I am completely dumbfounded by such behavior so unnecessary and very dangerous thing to do, we won't be returning,

Awful service and awful food. They forgot half the fillings from our breakfast bagel which was cold. This was £8.50 for a cold dry bagel, one sausage, a hash brown and cheese. Our friends breakfasts which were £16.50 were cold. Service was so slow. Took over half an hour to get drinks and over an hour for food. Such a shame as it’s a beautiful location but we won’t be returning again.

If you think 1 sausage, 1 bacon, slice of toast, slice of black pudding, a tablespoon of mushrooms, a burnt slice of tomato with a knob of butter in a small dish is worth £16.50.. oh and an pinch of garnish. This is the place for you! Nothing special. I can’t think why but, It must be more cost efficient to fly stock in with the avocados from California than to use the local cash and carry or the farm next door.

It would seem from alot of the reviews, the cafe is aware it is under performing, but still continuing to under perform, as experienced today. We won the social media competition and booked a table for our free Sunday lunch. Very much looking forward to it, babysitting are age and well deserved date afternoon for me and my partner. Only to be absolutely shocked at the sub standard of food being presented to us. Both went for the roast lamb. First plates sent out and there was no lamb in sight, just stringy offcuts of fat dumped onto cold roast potatoes. Plates sent back and waiting staff very apologetic stating "the chef has been struggling with the leg of lamb he was given to cook" Second plates sent out, this time a little more lamb attached to the lengths of fat, but both plates stone cold, meat cold, veg cold, gravy cold. The icing on the cake was the boiled veg, which was clearly microwaved from frozen sitting in a puddle of water. I've had better at a Toby carvary, and glad we didn't have to pay, not that I would of paid for the service or the food if we weren't competition winners. We didn't stay for desert and promptly left. Date afternoon saved by heading to the red lion 2 minutes down the road, who despite being busy on a Sunday afternoon fitted us in without a booking and served us some beautiful beef and slow cooked pork belly with piping hot veg.

The location here is great with a lovely shop and the food is good too, with generous portions but I have to agree with other reviewers that the wait sometimes is unacceptable. It is possible to wait 15 minutes for a coffee by which time you’ve finished your food. I see the staff are busy and working hard but while waiting for our drinks today I watched and there were times when there was nobody working the coffee machine, so I think there is something organisationally missing. I really like this place so I hope they can solve the waiting problem.

Generally the food is good, however HillTop Farm is very poor if you have a food allergy of any kind. We have only eaten 3 times; twice for breakfast and once for Sunday lunch. We have found them to extremely inflexible and not willing to make any changes. This questions me how 'home-cooked' the food really is as other restaurants can and do, alterations to dishes or offer substitutions. Hilltop is situated in a lovely location, but being a local we are seeing the vista everyday, so to us the food is more important. I'm sure many others who visit Hilltop have allergies, so come on Hilltop, get with the times. Until things change there, I'm not sure if we'll revisit as there are numerous other restaurants in the area, each offering high quality food.

We had pre-booked a table for 5 of us. It took 25 minutes before they took our order for drinks and cakes. After a long wait the drinks came, the can of coke was warm and a tea cup dirty. An hour after we arrived there 2 of the cakes arrived, the cookie was more like a very greasy flap jack. They left us a small pot of jam and cream for 3 of us to share when our scones eventually arrived. While we were waiting we ordered another coke, that came warm so we asked for it to be changed for a cold one which they did a while later. The 3 fruit scones arrived all looking burnt on top but were hot. 1 of them was raw inside and 1 was plain and tasted awful, so neither got eaten. We left there feeling hungry. It was supposed to be a joint birthday celebration and all i felt was i had let my family down going there.

Very disappointing visit. After a long wait the food finally arrived, unfortunately one dish was immediately sent back to the kitchen, a fish finger ciabatta sandwich. Cold, soggy and greasy with absolutely no taste whatsoever. The Salmon and vegetables on the specials menu was no better. Salmon was overcooked and the vegetables, (green beans, broccoli and cauliflower) were just awful and would not be surprised if they were from yesterdays Sunday lunch menu, the picture says it all. How the ‘chef’ could allow plates of food like this to leave the kitchen is beyond belief. On reflection this too should have found it’s way back to the food waste bin in the kitchen. You have an enviable destination with spectacular views but if you can’t match this with quality food and service then overtime the Average to Poor reviews will continue to increase. I will wait until your 3.5 average gets to at least 4.5 before my next visit, so that maybe sometime.

This is one of our go-to places to meet as a group of friends. The situation is superb - open views of beautiful countryside, the staff are friendly and efficient, the food is excellent, the farm shop is full of enticing goodies and the gift shop is an ideal place to find cards and presents. The outside area in the warmer weather is a suntrap and a wonderful place to sit and there is also a small play area for young children. My vegan chocolate orange cake was probably the best chocolate cake I have had and well worth the many calories that it inevitably contained! The only downside, but not worth knocking a star off for, is that it can get busy and you might have to wait for a table, especially if your group size is more than 2. However, I believe it is possible to book a table if you are organised.

Went there for lunch and opted for a sandwich as it was the only thing I could see that was marked as vegan. When it came it looked like it had butter in. I asked the waitress who confirmed it was. I said I was vegan and was told, a bit shortly, that I hadn't said I was vegan. Since the sandwich was marked as being vegan, I hadn't thought it necessary. The sandwich came back with what I assumed was vegan spread. The side salad also tasted like it had a honey dressing on but since I already felt like I had been a nuisance, I just left it. The food I could eat was nice enough but choice was very limited.

Award winning breakfast? Who was it judged by? This is one of the poorest breakfasts I’ve ever eaten!! Over cooked eggs, some fried potatoes, 2 rock hard sausages, a miserable fried tomato, thinly sliced and soggy bacon, a thin slice of supermarket bread, topped off with a bit of wilted spinach. If this was ever awarded anything, I’d hate to taste the opposition’s food. If ever you fancy a good full English, then avoid this place. It’s a rip off. Go to Leamington’s Mashed Swede, you may be sitting a bit closer to people and have to wait a bit, but the result is a freshly cooked breakfast using the best of local ingredients, Hilltop farm are way off the mark!

A great cafe (in the barn conversion) with outdoor seating on a sunny patio area .A kids' play area (in the back field), a glamping area, a food shop and a gift shop. There is a marquee for events in the summer.Parking is on site with plenty of Blue Badge spaces available close to the shop.Facilities are all on the ground floor (toilets included). The cafe is licenced and is open for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea. There is a wide range of light bites as well as a daily luch menu with Specials to chose from. The staff are all friendly and helpful. Service is generally very good. A great place for all the family and for friends to meet.

Visited this establishment for Sunday breakfast with family. Good job we had booked a table as the place was extremely busy. We all ordered the standard English which was of a high standard and presentation was extremely good. I feel that prices are rather on the high side at £8.99 for a standard breakfast + the additional tea or coffee costs compared with other similar establishments I have visited. + to charge £1.00 extra for one small slice of black pudding is extortionate in my book!! We will return at some point but not every weekend as we cannot justify the cost.

We 'glamped' at Hilltop Farm this weekend and went to the cafe for breakfast on both days (as well as visiting the bar a couple of times too). It's so lovely! All the staff are super friendly and helpful and the breakfast is delicious. Not only this, but the hilltop setting is fantastic, with lovely views of the countryside - and the play area is perfect for kids needing a run around!

After recently moving to the area we decided to come for Sunday brunch. Quick waiter service and food arrived in good time. Food was exceptional and the coffee is amazing. The stunning views and coffee was so good we came back later the same day for another coffee!

Literally just had breakfast here. Whilst the food was nice, the service was atrocious! Waited over 45 minutes for it to arrive. The latte was a white coffee that the waitress spilt everywhere (as she did with many of the coffees that passed us). Items were missing but nobody told us before it arrived. One of the items was wrong. The toast was cold and we paid £33 for all of this. A lovely location which is obviously popular but needs better organisation and management. Would not come back which is such a shame as on a sunny bank holiday Monday, it’s beaautiful but I don’t expect awful service like that so will take my business elsewhere.

We visited as a group of 10. Myself and my wife are both vegan and so asked if we may have the vegetarian breakfast and swap the eggs for something else. We were told they don’t do substitutes and so could ask for no egg but would be charged an extra £2 as a side for the ‘substitute’. This made the potential breakfast (which was just beans, potatoes mushrooms and avocado) £8! Instead we chose avocado on toast for £5. We got a single slice of toast with avocado. For five pounds! The other 8 guests enjoyed their breakfast but none of them or us will be returning after the lack of accommodation for dietary requirements. Nice location, good ingredients, no common sense.

We're regulars at the farm shop - the meat is superb - but rarely have time to use the cafe. However, on this occasion we were waiting on their doorstep for them to open at 9am! Full selection of breakfast items - my eggs Benedict was generous and tasty and my husband loved his cooked breakfast, I just had to steal some sausage! Great value for money and huge coffees - perfect. Sit facing the windows, the view is fabulous.

We only dropped in for a coffee. How difficult should it be to order two Americanos? Should the customer go away from the counter feeling like they don’t want to stay for the drinking of the coffee?

If we were reviewing just on food it would get a 5 star plus. Our meal was absolutely beautiful. One of the nicest meals out in some time. Fantastic flavours, portion size and attention to detail. So sad that the service lets them down so much. Waited for ages to order then ages again for drinks, no attention to customers. Had to then go and find someone to pay our bill. It is such a shame but really lets such good food down. Will go back for food but with lots of time & patience.

Went with young daughter to see the animals and there weren't any there. Looked like a decent butcher, coffee shop and cafe I suppose. Doesn't seem to have much over any of the other 500 odd farm shops and cafes.

It’s worth finding this place if you like a decent coffee, the range of cakes are very tempting as well. Hot Meals are freshly prepared, appealing though pricey - can find better vfm for the farm shop fare elsewhere, but it’s got a good view so worth making the effort.

I recently had another wonderful lunch here and keep meaning to give this place a 5 star review! The setting and view is stunning with great outdoor space in summer and a cosy feel in winter. They do a great selection of typical farm shop meals and also mains like fish and chips. Throw in the most wonderful warm scones with cream and jam and you have the perfect lunch!

I live just down the road from hilltop so visit fairly frequently usually just with adults as we've had poor experiences with the children's menu before. On this occasion I visited here with my friend, my 20 month old baby and her 3 year old. We had to locate a waitress to order our food and drinks as no one came to take our order. I had bought a home prepared meal with me for my 20 month old as the children's menu is poor to say the least. Even the sandwich option is served on ridiculously thick bread with cake and crisps meant for adults, not appropriate for a 20 month old. The other options are things like burger and fries or sausages, again with the salt content...really not suitable for tots. Our children began to eat their food as our food arrived, this waitress said nothing, a few minutes later our drinks arrived. This waitress said it was against their policy to eat food on the premises not bought from them. I highlighted the fact that they do not serve appropriate food for young children and pointed out on previous occasions they have admitted they add (vast amounts!) of salt to food on the children's menu. I stated I was not going to remove my sons lunch from him as she wanted me to and instead we just would not return.I thought that was that...but no. The same waitress then decided to rehash it all at the till with a shop full of customers watching! I restated that they do not serve suitable food and that we would not be returning so the conversation was pointless. Apparently she just wanted the last word but there was a fair few customers outside in the play area that agreed with us and were alarmed to be informed about the salty additions to their children's menu...Well done Hilltop, you just lost a loyal customer (a quite possibly a few more once I've finished telling my story!).

We've been here quite a few times and it's always a lovely experience. Staff are always friendly and it's a lovely clean comfortable restaurant/farm shop set in a great location with amazing views. The food is great, we have been for breakfast and also had sandwiches at lunch time couldn't fault either, good food served quickly by polite helpful staff in a relaxed atmosphere, what more could you ask for. Well there's also a wonderful farm shop and craft area as well as an outdoor area to eat or just chill out.

We have been going to Hilltop Farm for breakfast as a family for over 4 years and have always been satisfied with both the service and the food. Something has changed over the last 6 months and it is noticeable in the quality and portion size of the offerings. My last (and I mean my last) visit was today and I was astounded that the farmhouse tradition of a 'hearty' breakfast is fading into a commercial offering that neither reflects this or a warm service. There is no flexibility in the menu; you get what it says even if you don't want it. My wife does not eat potatoes or bread and asked for these to be omitted with the option to exchange. The waiteress said they do not do this anymore with the result that the four items on her plate cost more than the sum of the individual items from the 'additionals' menu. Not only that but the tomato was the size of a 50p coin and only half was provided. Not great! If this were the only issue then I would probably not write a review but given how busy they get on a Sunday means that the food is often under cooked an issue we have experienced on the last two visits. My advice to management is to get back to what you earned your reputation and stop the need for profit. To their credit the lady at the checkout was great.

Visited Hilltop Farm for breakfast. We arrived late morning and asked what time the breakfast service finished. A very helpful polite waitress told us we were in plenty of time for breakfast and to go through to the restaurant. On first impression this is a great place to visit, very popular with families with a fabulous selection of cakes and and good farm produce. We sat at a table and noticed that a waitress was placing reserved notices on the majority of the tables so we found a table that wasn't reserved, however she came over and placed a reserve notice on our table and told us the table was reserved from 12.30. This gave us an hour for breakfast and we felt slightly rushed as we hadn't yet ordered and we felt as though we needed to keep an eye on the time. Breakfast was pleasant enough with meaty sausages. We finished our plates and decided to browse the farm shop and buy some of the delicious looking cakes. We picked up a few items including jam and cheese and then waited to pay and choose which cakes to take home. However I was more than horrified to hear a raised male voice behind me telling off the lovely waitress who had first greeted us. It became apparent that he was a manager and had no idea how to speak to his staff. His attitude was totally inappropriate. His manner and attitude to this girl was a disgrace. To top it all when I looked down he had bare feet. At which point my breakfast nearly came back up. On finding out this guy was the co-owner of the business, we returned our items to the shelves and just paid for the breakfast. I wouldn't support this business again purely based on how he spoke to the staff.

We love Hilltop Farm and especially its breakfasts.Having arrived at 11.34 when the lovely lady took our order at 11.39 we were disappointingly told we were too late as they stop serving breakfasts at 11.30,as they need to get ready for lunch. We were then given a snack menu and a afternoon tea menu a little Bazaar! Pretty much things you would not typically eat in a morning!Chose soup and a sandwich very nice but not what we wanted prior to 12 noon! Please please serve breakfasts until 12 in fact why not do an all day breaky/brunch

A fascinating pub that we were told was once owned by Henry VIII and given to Catherine of Aragon on their divorce. Then owned by Magdalene College Oxford for hundreds of years. It’s certainly old with flagstone floors, lots of panelling and a no longer accessible secret passageway to the church across the road. Top that with decent beers, a short freshly cooked menu and friendly service
