Generally the food and service was ok but one small chipolata sausage for the kids meal with chips and beans for over £6 was very disappointing. I did mention it to the waitress. I understand how some customers might try it on ordering kids meals for adults but this was barely enough for our 18 month old grandson and definitely not enough for our 3 year old.

Disappointing. Ordered soup for my lunch assuming tomato ‘soup of the day’ would be homemade as is a farmshop and tomatoes are in season. When it arrived it looked and tasted like tinned soup. I did ask the waitress if it was homemade she said she would ask and returned saying it was . I really don’t believe this and would not have ordered it if I had thought it was out of a tin. I will not be returning

Went for coffee, really no atmosphere, so bought a slice of cake to take away. I was shocked when the price of one slice of cake was £3.90 but told it was apricot and almond cake, imagined it was going to be very nice. Very disappointed to find the only sign of both almond and apricot was the jam spread on top and a few flaked almonds . Shan't be going again.

Went today and was rather disappointed. £13.65 for a lamb burger and when they arrived, nothing on it, my wife got a slice of lamb lettuce, on the side no salad, instead barely a spoon of coleslaw, and chips. Quater of the plate was empty. I asked for more salad and got a very small portion of it. As I said note impressed, for that price you would expect more.

Dropped in here on a recommendation (so each to his own) and although it’s a nice setting and the cafe is airy and well laid out I waited over half an hour for food when there was no one else eating. I get that the food is cooked fresh (and it clearly was) but the wait is too long for fairly standard fair. Customer service was ok, but I was surprised not to be asked when I paid (at least) if all was well. It would’ve saved me writing this review! Food was ok, but not good value for money. Standard Warren’s sausages and very small helping for nearly ten quid. One for the tourists I think.

Be aware when ordering the ploughman's that half the plate is full of lettuce and has peppers included? 3 small blocks of cheese provided with one slice of ham. Very odd composition, the lunch ends up being very watery as the coleslaw and lettuce mix together. Could do with an update, get rid of the lettuce include a pork pie instead. Gluten free option just removes the bread and offers no alternative. Flat white was lacking and was more like a cappuccino. Staff are very friendly though, Milkshake is great for kids. Service is very quick.

We arrived at the farm shop and were intending on sitting down for a nice cup of tea and a bite to eat before looking round the shop. I needed the loo so asked at the counter where the lady was very abrupt and stated the facilities were only for cafe customers. I tried to explain that we’d like to sit down and order and she refused to let me use the loo until we’d done track and trace. Perfectly acceptable so I asked to track and trace and were rudely told she would not let us until we’d sat down to order. So we sat down and she walked off and refused to take our order. Not sure why we were met with such hostility, perhaps because we were younger than the usual clientele. Really disappointed as we were really looking forward to supporting a local business but felt we no longer had an appetite after we were made to feel so unwelcome.

As a local who is not keen on crowds, I find there are few places to go to in the summer months where you can almost be guaranteed peace and quiet, but this is one place that does, at least when I've visited. Friendly, helpful staff, very good menu. I'm on a strictly controlled diet (allergies) at present but was able to find something good to eat. Outside there is fresh veg and fruit to buy, and a small selection of garden items. All well priced. Inside is charming, lots to look at, tables well spaced, very clean, lovely light and some lovely merchandise for sale if you fancy a browse - not the gaudy stuff you get in many town shops, but quality and quirky stuff at reasonable prices. Yesterday's visit was a joy, my first day out with a friend since the pandemic began last year, and I felt relaxed and safe. Hilltop is a precious local haven to while away an hour or two with a friend or family, I hope it never gets spoiled by too many people!

The Hilltop Farm shop we visited many times this week bears no resemblance to the previous review. We were staying local in Davidstow and sampled breakfast, lunch and tea at the cafe. We also used the shop for our daily needs, The produce was always fresh and reasonably priced. The staff were always attentive and very friendly. I can only assume as the owners states that the previous review was maybe for another establishment?. We are leaving this weekend to return home but before doing so will be calling in for another coffee and purchase some last minute presents. Thanks for a week of great food.

You have staff wandering around without any masks on, touching their hair and not washing their hands afterwards...order food for takeaway so still a paying customer but not allowed to use the toilet facilities because we aren’t sat at a table. I said I have the track and trace app but no, waited for payment before refused the use of the facilities. Over 20 minutes we have to wait for a bacon sandwich. I think it’s disgusting, rules being made as they go along, there was no logic in not being able to the toilets all because we aren’t sat at a table. Maybe they should follow the actual rules first like wearing a mask whilst in the work place before making up their own! Will not be returning to this place.

I've lived in the area for 10 years now and thought why not I'm going to give it a try! I ordered poached egg on toast and an earl grey tea.I waited 1 hour 5 minutes for 2 pieces of toast and 2 eggs. The cafe was quiet, so was no excuse. The lady at the till said we cook things fresh and ready to order. However I don't think 2 eggs and 2 Alice's of toast take an hour. Moving onto the tea, It came in a teapot that was coated in dust! (Please in times like these wipe YOUR EQUIPMENT DOWN)When pouring my tea the handle came of from where the teapot was previously broken and spilt tea everywhere. To then be given empty sugar sachets, that have quiet clearly been used by someone else. The service was terrible. No eye contact. No check back on food. And no apologies about the wait. And update on food would have been amazing. A clean polished knife and fork would have made things better. A gently wiped teapod would look better. Please in times like this. I would not recommend dining here. Myself and my partner (and 5.5 month old dog) thought we would stop here to have some lunch before our 5 hour drive back home. What a big mistake that was. We initially walked in and there was a table of people smoking on the terrace which looked like they had all been there all day. There were tables outside of the terrace which the smokers should really be sat at. We ordered food (which was very overpriced for what it was!) with quite a rude lady who was very pushy as it was almost 3PM and the kitchen closes at 3PM. She kept repeating herself that we needed to be quick! (Although we were that quick we didnt have time to think!) We sat on the terrace as we had our dog and she can sometimes be anxious around alot of people. She was as good as gold throughout our whole meal. (Kindly seasoned with the lovely taste of cigarette smoke).I thought I would use the toilet prior to our 5 hour journey home and the Male member of staff, although showed me and unlocked the toilet door for me, was still very abrupt telling me to 'wait over there' (due to covid) understandable but abrupt and rude. Whist I was in the toilet, i could hear some commotion with our dog (mini sausage dog). A large dog had come into the terrace and our dog started to bark and the other dog was also whining alot. (Dogs being dogs). The Male member came out to ask us to leave if our dog continues to bark (she had only been barking for a couple of minutes and it was clear my partner was trying to get the situation under control.). I doubt they would have asked us if we were yet to order food and spend our money!! On top of this, we both found some very small black hairs in our dinners (as though the chef had his hair cut) Also, we overheard a conversation with the female member of staff saying that she refuses to participate in track and trace due to 'GDPR'... so on top of this, if any of us come into contact with covid, we wont know about it and will continue to spread. Not a very nice place. Supposedly dog friendly... I wouldnt bother.

I have lived in Cornwall for 22 years and have heard several people say how good the food is here so I decided to take my daughter and Granddaughter for a birthday treat. On arrival, despite booking in advance our booking could not be found in the diary. I explained that I had originally booked for Tuesday but changed the booking on Monday evening to Wednesday. The weather was extremely hot and we sat at the only picnic bench available on the grass outside before deciding to move to the covered decking area because it was too hot. We sat down and I went and placed our food order. This area is covered in perspex and whilst waiting for our food it became horrendously hot even more so than outside so I went inside and told the lady on the till that we were moving back to the grassed area because it was too hot under cover, she replied 'everywhere's hot' in a very rude tone of voice.Whilst waiting for our food I nipped to the toilet and on my return my daughter said the lady on the till had shouted across to her from a distance and in earshot of other customers to keep the dog quiet as she had received complaints. The little sausage dog barked twice as a dog passed it and was quiet at all other times so we found this hard to believe. It's supposed to be 'dog friendly,' do they not realise that occasionally dogs bark?We continued to wait for our food and my daughter decided to go and get a doggie icecream. When she went up to get the icecream my daughter overheard a member of staff talking to the woman on the till about us, who replied in a derogatory manner. Apparently the food we were waiting for was taken to the table we had moved from despite me notifying them we'd moved. The table had rejected the food and they had binned it instead of bringing it to us. Hearing the conversation my daughter had heard enough and wanted to leave. I went inside to explain to the lady on the till that she'd been rude and that we would not be staying and I requested a refund. She then accused me of being rude, which was not the case. I was then confronted by a man who joined in with her. This was meant to be a happy relaxed day in the sunshine to celebrate my daughter's recent birthday, instead it was a nightmare. In 22 years of living in Cornwall and visiting restaurant's and cafe's in the area I have never come across such a downright rude person. The lady gave me a refund and implied that it was all my fault before asking me not to put a bad review on Trip Advisor. If you have time, please read the responses from Hilltop Farm shop to any poor reviews and you will realise that according to Hilltop Farm Shop the customer is always WRONG!! I'm not aiming this review at all the staff there, just the older lady on the till who made our experience extremely unpleasant and spoiled the rest of our day. This was not just poor customer service this was downright rudeness and an attitude that if I was her Manager I would be sending her out of the door with her P45 and telling her never to return. This member of staff is a detriment to the business,Would I recommend this place, NEVER!!!!I'm expecting a negative response from Hilltop Farm shop (like all other poor reviewers received) and all I can say is, if you're into the Basil Fawlty experience (definitely without the humour) this might be the place for you, otherwise life's too short, go somewhere where your custom will be better appreciated and you're made to feel welcome, humans and animals alike...Please note - I had to rate 1* for food as it was the only option available but we did not eat here. Our rating is based on staff attitude and overall experience!!

There are reviews on here that dogs are welcome, but ours certainly wasn’t, even though they sell dog ice creams. We were disappointed with the size and stock supplied. Small veg selection and an odd assortment of tins, jars and bottles inside. There’s a sort of gift shop tagged on making it an odd assortment. Would also argue that a lot of takeaway, fridge, frozen options are not very vegetarian friendly. Some younger staff very nice/polite and some of the older staff members openly rude and abrupt!

There wasn't an option for a score of 0,but that would have been my score! We experienced an extremely rude member of staff when entering the farm shop! After having a nice experience at the farm shop on our trip down to Cornwall last year, we purposely aimed to stop at this farm shop for a coffee, treats for the kids and walk the dog. Upon arrival into the entrance with my young daughter we were abruptly asked to sanitise our hands. When I asked the woman member of staff was it OK to use the cafe for take away coffee's and food, I was rudely told (as if I should have been aware of this!!) that the cafe closed at 3.30pm and they had cleaned down, so it wasn't possible (no signs were up about this closing time and all signs still said open!). When I then asked if we could buy something in the shop and use the toilets, I was very rudely told 'I've just told you! Everything's been cleaned down and this is not a public convenience!'. I was extremely offended and shocked by her rudeness, so turned out of the shop with my daughter and said we would go elsewhere. The woman then carried on by saying to me 'No need for the attitude...this isn't a public convenience!!'. To which I replied that I didn't i didn't have an attitude and simply came to the cafe to purchase goods, have a rest and use the toilets. She carried on saying I had an attitude...while we were walking away. She was extremely unprofessional....a most unpleasant woman who was so rude to myself and my young daughter.I spoke further to the manager to complain about this woman, who, although a little more pleasant, didn't apologise and simply re-iterated about the closing times.I'll add that the whole time I was talking to the manager outside, this woman was laughing at me from inside the shop window!!If you want pleasant customer service, polite staff and somewhere which appreciates their customers, GO ELSEWHERE!! I fully appreciate opening and serving in this current climate is different and hard, but why open and invite customers in if you can't treat them nicely!!!

Smelt fabulous from the car park Cheese Scone was home made and looked pretty good but disappointingly it was microwaved which is never a good sign Leek and potato soup - having just read a recent review I totally agree that the soup was watery , none the better for adding salt and pepper No one asked if everything was alright so I took the meal back to the counter as this was not enjoyable, no taste to the soup and the rubbery scone was hardening Regretfully I should have gone without, but ordered a jacket potato , reheated by that microwave and by now eating alone as my friends had finished The bottom of this potato could not be cut with a knife - too late and too embarrassed to mention this

Meg and the Hilltop team recently helped us out with catering for our lowkey, spontaneous wedding at a campsite near their shop/cafe, and did the most amazing job! Meg chatted through menu options and helped make an amazing selection within our budget with only a few weeks to go before the day. The food was really delicious (everyone was stuffed and happy) and all the communication was really smooth. Would absolutely recommend them!

On the way home from our holiday we called for breakfast. The place had been recommended to us. A warm welcome from what appeared to be a family run establishment and the food was superb. Everything, sausages, bacon and mushrooms were very fresh and not from a super market. One of the best breakfasts I have had! There is also a shop selling foods, craft items and souvenirs.

My friend and I came and had a nice catch up and a meal. We decided to sit outside as it was still the end of summer - even though it wasn't particularly warm. The food was nice and the gazebo thing we were sat in was quite nice as well. The price for the food was good for what you got.

We feel that standards have dropped since Hilltop Farm Shop received the Taste of the West award last year. The menu is more limited and not as adventurous, the cooking is not as well executed and waiting times can be quite long (30 minutes), even for a sandwich when the restaurant is not busy. The kitchen can sometimes close early, contradicting the time stated on the board outside the restaurant. The owners have mentioned on TripAdvisor that any problems with food should be mentioned at the time. On two occasions we have passed polite, constructive comments and have found the owners' response to be quite rude and insulting, which made us feel uncomfortable. Dining out should be a pleasant experience, but sadly, this has not been the case recently at Hilltop. Such a pity!

Quick and efficient service in pleasant surroundings. I had a cream tea, the scones were large, warm and soft with plenty of jam and clotted cream. I was there an hour before closing time and there was no hot food left, just tea cakes, cake and scones. Seemed reasonable value for money. There was produce and coal for sale in the farm shop. I'd go there again.

Service average, dining area rather cramped. Food good but not much vegetarian on offer. Rather limited choice in the adjoining shop, ditto for the fresh cakes. Got the impression the place is growing too fast for the available trade, as it is a little off the beaten track. Not much of a view from the outside dining area. Prices a little high.

We have always loved visiting this shop cafe, during the summer and winter, as we live locally. Sadly we have seen it change over the last couple of years. We went for Sunday lunch and the choice has now shrunk to only four choices; Gammon, Beef, !Minced beef pie or Seabass, nothing for a vegetarian who doesnt eat fish. The meals are overpriced, meat overcooked, thin and fatty slices. Vegetables used to be served on the side, but now it is plated like a school dinner. The carrots were clearly microwaved and parsnips undercooked. In comparison to other restaurants including carveries in the vicinity it is now sadly left lacking, perhaps that is why it was empty today when it used to be very popular. Its a great shame that dogs are no longer welcomed indoors as well, will prevent dog owners visiting in the winter. This reflects the change in the atmosphere, used to be friendly, fun and inclusive. Such a shame.

The ice creams here are beautiful! Really generous portions and are very well presented. The customer service we received was outstanding, my daughter had a massive meltdown (ASD) and they were nothing but supportive, understanding and helpful. We'd had a very tough day today with meltdowns galore and this one was by far the worst of the day yet I never felt alone or judged. People like you make the biggest difference and I am so very grateful for you going out of your way to help and care. Thank you x
