Highlanes Fish and Chips, Hayle in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

We came on holiday and called in for Fish and chips. All in all 10/10 and we'll worth the visit. Give it a try if you fancy some good honest food.

Great place busy with locals really big portions and freshly cooked. a gem in an unexpected place we will make this a regular stop on our visits to Hayle

Come here every year when we have our family holiday in cornwall. Staff are very friendly and helpful. And the food is great especially the gravy! The gravy is amazing! Hahaha see you next year 😁

Went in on a sat night ordered fish and chips …. Sat in my car and had my food .. food was lovely! But my god the lady’s in there need to paint a smile on their faces ..

Found this place from Tripadvisor reviews. Off the beaten track in amongst a little housing estate. Full of locals. Got fish bites and chips for the kids and fish and chips for us - huge portions, well done crispy chips and beautiful fish. Would whole heartedly recommend, reasonably priced considering the portion size too. Very efficient staff, thank you!

Good food, fresh and plentiful. A friendly team who are happy to help and advise. We had fish, which was definitely freshly battered and cooked, it showed.

The best fish and chips for miles around! Brilliant service from a hard working team behind the counter. All praise to the staff, as due to the quality of the food and service it’s always super busy in there, and they always have a smile on and are polite and helpful. Can’t speak highly enough of the ladies that I see regularly behind the counter! Prices are really good as well as the portion size. I’ve been coming to this fish and chip shop for years and they never fail to disappoint. Everything across the board they seem to nail. Can’t say a negative word about them, they are by far the best across board. If you are in Hayle, get yourself over to High Lanes for a proper fish and chips!!

Excellent fish & chips, definitely the best in Hayle. Fish freshly cooked, lovely crunchy batter, chips hot, crisp & golden, fluffy in the middle. Huge portion of chips. We had two portions between three, still far too much so sadly done were wasted.

I wouldn’t normally think about reviewing a Fish & Chip shop, but it was exceptional. Great chips, and the haddock was out of this world. Very nicely cooked and a gorgeous batter.

Reputation for the best and chips around and didn’t disappoint! Crispy light batter, perfectly fried chunky fillet of cod, and real chips old school style. Top drawer never change!

When on holiday in Hayle we always visit this lovely fish shop. This evening we collected XL Haddock chips & curry sauce. The food was outstanding. Staff are really friendly. Food is well wrapped & in a large bag which keeps it nice and hot. Highly recommended.

I wrote a review in may 2021 about the size of the standard cod getting smaller over the years. We haven’t had Highlanes fish and chips since then but thought we would try them again last week. Wow, surely they can’t get much smaller. Quality was good but size of the standard cod was even more disappointing than back in May 2021. That’s it now, plenty of other fish and chip shops in and around Hayle. Good bye Highlanes.🙁

My family and I have been going to highlanes fish and chips since I was in nappies. They have always had the most kindest and efficient staff too. As well as the best prices too! We will travel half an hour just to get our fish and chips as no where compares! Highly recommend to anyone.

Visited this takeaway for the first time as it was near our holiday accommodation and we wanted a meal in a hurry. Fortunately, got there just before they closed but, even so, the cod was the best we had had in some time - lovely...

Freshly cooked fish nice crisp and light batter and tasty Chips. Generous portion. Certain times quite busy but well worth the wait, will definitely go again.

Came here after reading reports on trip advisor and was not disappointed. Had Cod and small chips, and a large Haddock with small chips. Both fish were cooked to order and the amount of chips served was enough for four people. Would definitely go back...

Wow... these are without doubt the best fish and chips ever. Such friendly helpful andpolite staff as well. Deffinatley a must if you are local or visiting.

Another holiday treat. Drove past it first time (keep an eye on the sat nav, you can't clearly see it from the main road). So yes, the previous reviews aren't wrong. Huge portions, cooked perfectly - the extra large haddock was awesome!

We were looking for somewhere to buy fish and chips to take back to our caravan. After checking Trip Advisor we decided to go to Highlanes. We arrived not long after they opened and there was already a small cue and people waiting for their orders, a good sign. After ordering we had a short wait for our food which I didn’t mind as it meant it was cooked fresh. When we got back to the van we all really enjoyed our fish and chips. Everything was hot, the batter crispy and the fish nice and flaky. Best of all though were the chips a nice mixture of crispy and soft, we think our local chippy is good but these were even better. All in all I was really pleased I checked Trip Advisor and chose Highlanes and if we are ever back in the area we will definitely return.Thanks for a fantastic dinner.

Every time we come to Hayle on holiday we visit Highlanes for their fish and chips. This year was as good as always. Superb cod and chips and their covid procedures were excellent. Definitely be back again.

Been coming to Hayle at least twice a year on holiday - there is no better fish and chip shop than High Lanes. Fish is fabulous thick and flakey - chips humungous portion nicely fried - Simples

My wife and I have just been to Highlanes for the third time in the last 9 days since we arrived in Hayle.....why? Well simply because it is superb, wonderful chips and really white and meaty fish and very generous portions served by smiling friendly staff.

Traditional F&C; shop. A little out of the way but the sat nav takes you to it. Great fresh fish, large portions so small is adequate. Fresh local Hake , excellent. Lovely staff friendly and organised service. Cash only

I’ve visited Hayle for years but hadn’t used this fish and chip shop before-you wouldn’t just come across it in passing! The quality of the food was excellent, timely service by friendly staff with dedicated parking for customers.

Visited twice in a week. First time we got regular fish and chips. Large portions, so we got small on the second visit. Pleasant staff on both occasions. Tasty and value for money

Brilliant as always! Came down during the festive season with my work, we placed a large order which we enjoyed looking at the Christmas lights. See you next year

Highlanes has always been great for as long as I can remember, we have now moved in next door and despite telling myself I would be good and only have it once a fortnight, i find myself in here often a couple of times a week. Cannot recommend enough, portion sizes are huge and very reasonably priced, brilliant service too.

This fish and chip shop has reminded us of how good this traditional British food can be. We were so impressed with the quality of the food, we bought from them three times in two weeks while on holiday in the area. So impressed, we even phoned them up to tell them how good it was while we were still eating it the first time! Service was excellent, portions were large, the chips were lovely and the fish, especially the large haddock fillets were superb in quality - haven’t been able to find fish and chips this good for years. Furthermore we thought in terms of value especially given the quality it was more than satisfactory Would definitely recommend and will definitely go back when in the area next.

We asked a local cabbie to recommend a good chippie. He rolled off a few names but said that this place was the best. He wasn't wrong. Best fish and chips we have ever had. My wife had cod and chips and I had the local hake and chips, all freshly cooked. Lovely flakey flesh and light batter. Great chips and batter bits! If you are holidaying in Hayle like we were, you have to go here. Very friendly staff as well.

We visit Hayle on a yearly basis. Last year we ran out of time before heading to Highlands to sample the already well reviewed food.

After reading the 5* reviews we decided to try High Lanes instead of our favourite fish and chip shop/restaurant in Carbis Bay.

It takes some finding but once you’ve been to Highlanes chip shop nowhere else is good enough. The staff are all very friendly, the food is excellent and the portions are very generous.

Takes some finding but well worth it. Huge choice of dishes and all served piping hot by friendly fast working staff. Parking ok but tight when busy. Just follow the signs fro Guildford road near Lidls supermarket. Not overpriced for a tourist area and ideal for campers/caravanners on the towans. Best chippy around.

Fresh fish nice staff very tasty parking a little tight but a walk to shop makes it all the more worth it

I've been going to this fish and chip shop since I was introduced to it by my wife when we first got together. The staff are really friendly, all the food is cooked to order and tastes great, I particularly love their scampi! For what you pay you get a good hearty meal out of it compared to other fast food outlets. You can telephone your order through to them in advance which is especially good if you have a big order so they know what's coming, and your always greeted with a smile. I will be a customer of here for many years to come.

In Hayle on a weeks holiday and tried Highlanes Fish & Chips, reasonable prices and massive portions. Only complaint was the fish batter stuck to the wrapping but both fish and chips tasted lovely.

I travel from St. Ives over to hayle for this place..even though I have a dozen chippy,s to choose from..this is by far the best. 100%.and it always as been..highly recommended

It is worth going to this chippy for your take away. It's not on the high street but not far away so do not let this deter you as you will not be disappointed. Cash only though - no machines

Bought 2x fish and chips to take away. These fish and chips were the worst we have had for some time. Really looking forward to these but oh so disappointed. Chips were really tough and like wise the fish., really could not eat many of them and had to be thrown away, waste of £12.10p. Will not visit again and would not recommend.

What a fantastic find! I live 20 minutes from here which is probably a good thing because I would be here all the time and gain a shed load of weight! We purchase fish and chips from here and then take them to a nearby beach, the portion sizes are very generous the chips taste amazing they don't leave that horrible layer of fat in your mouth like they have done from other takeaways i have tried. The food is fresh, staff are very friendly plenty of parking.

I'm old fashioned when it comes to fish and chips , I'm not interested in getting my food in a smart card board box / tray or how nicely decorated the place is no I'm interested in how fresh the fish is and how tasty the batter is , and let me tell you these take some beating. Totally lovely tasty and good portions . Taste like they used too

Staff very friendly and all food freshly cooked. Not offered which size of chips, just presumed to want standard, which was huge. Only discovered the choice when reading the menu we took back with us. Next time will order small of each.

iv done many reviews for here and iv try others but this 1 always is my top chippy because i dont live near hayle its hard for me to have my fav all the time iv try many other more local to me but they are no where as good this as been my no 1 chose for over 7 years now

Being local, we've tried all of the fish and chip shops in Hayle and surrounding areas (and there are a fair few!) Some are very good but also very expensive, while some are very cheap but really not of good quality.Highlanes strikes the perfect balance (in our opinion) with the food ranging from good to exceptional, and at very reasonable prices, too. Because it's tucked away in a housing estate, it doesn't seem to attract so many people who are holidaying in the area, which is great as those that do tend to overprice during the holiday season!Overall, Highlanes is definitely our favourite fish and chip shop, and well worth visiting if you are in the area.

The best chips my whole family have ever had. The staff are so friendly and polite, they couldnt do enough. The portions are massive but its hard to waste any as they are so good. By far the best chip shop around! Its always nice to be greeted by lovely kind people who are always happy to see you and walk away with some truely lovely food aswell. 100% worth a visit you wont be dissapointed.

Visited here last night by chance. Holidaying in Lelant and was in Hayle and Googled fish and chip takeaways near by.... results came up with this lovely fish and chip place. Chips portion sizes were so big myself and my family couldn't finish them. They were very nice too. Got a good selection on their menu and staff were very friendly and helpful. I thought £3.00 was a bit steep for garlic mushrooms but when I received it it had loads in and lettuce and garlic mayo so was very pleased. Will definitely return before we go onto our next leg of our journey. Thank you.
