Highland Getaway Restaurant in Highland

Second time here. Had dinner here in the past when we did the WHW and remembering it was good. We thought of eating here again while in Kinlochleven. Ordered the Large Haddock Beer Battered Fish and Chips. I saw a couple of half eaten fish chips in other tables and didn’t look good. But I still went for it. I couldn’t eat the whole thing. It wasn’t even hot and looked half done, it was pale yellow. The batter was horrible and wasn’t cooked properly. It was that bad that it sticks to your teeth and gums. My partner enjoyed his gammon steak while I probably had the worst fish and chips of my life! Staff were lovely though and great pub atmosphere.

Highland getaway Inn is good for a delicious home comforting meal and is very welcoming with a good drinks selection. 2nd year in a row visiting and I'm sure won't be the last. Chinese curry is yum!

Great food here, toasted sandwiches etc and gorgeous cakes. Also a lovely friendly welcome from the Scottish ladies. We both really enjoyed our lunch here and enjoyed the little salad that came with the sandwiches. Give it a try if you are in the area.

The way a pub/ restaurant should be run and obviously the only decent place to go to in Kinlochleven, friendly helpful staff , extensive reasonably priced meals, excellent selection of drinks and good craic with the locals. We will definitely return.

After a long walk through the hills, we entered the town and happened to find this place. We entered into the pub not realizing there was also a restaurant. It was a mere minutes before 2pm and we were starving and luckily the very friendly bartender told us that we had like five minutes to order food before the kitchen closed. We ended up with burgers and they were okay. Tasted good but not remarkable. We inquired about the dinner menu to see if it were the same as in the pub section. A very nice woman told us the menu was different but that they were already booked up in the dining area but she could reserve us a table in the pub. Realizing there were not a lot of choices in town we took it. Generally we liked our dishes for dinner but I would describe it again as good but not remarkable. That aside, the staff were all very friendly and I loved the pub's atmosphere.

We were advised that this is the best place to eat in Kinlochleven and fortunately friends who had booked managed to get us squeezed in for the evening. It was a very busy evening but food was great. Service was okay with really n friendly staff, however they could do with a bit of coordination to ensure that things run more smoothly. The fact that staff were rushing around at pace did make it feel less relaxing and I had to remind myself to relax and enjoy the food. That aside, I’d definitely eat here again and wish them every success.

Waren über Nacht und haben abends im Restaurant sehr lecker gespiesen. Kreative lokale schmackhafte Küche in grossen Portionen zu fairen Preisen. Alles war frisch und knackig. Freundliches und aufmerksames Personal. Schöne Aussicht auf den Fluss und die Berge. Reservation enpfehlenswert.

Delicious! Busy night at the inn and we managed to get a table. Very hearty Scottish food much welcomed after a long walk. Only wish is that we could have stayed longer and had pudding. There was a reservation on the table so had to eat and go.

We were so happy to arrive to this restaurant as the view is just beautiful and we had had a very long day of walking. But the good things really stop there. And I can honestly say this was the biggest waste of money I’ve ever experienced. From the start, even we leaned back on a chair and it was broken so nearly fell backwards. Then, going to order was actually painful with how useless and incompetent the staff seemed to be. The coke came and was completely tasteless so we asked they change the syrup and instead they had to give us a different drink. Even the lady next to us pointed out how awful the cole looked. It was very difficult to communicate to the staff due to their language barrier and then the food was being sent to the wrong table. I couldn’t believe the waitress when she put our food down (with no cutlery for a while until we asked) and then proceeded to walk past us with said cutlery to go back to the wrong table despite just putting our food down. The starter arrived after 45-60 minutes later and was the worst calamari we ever tasted, no taste whatsoever. Then my main arrived and it was just awful. The veggie burger literally disintegrated on touch is was that dry and it was completely foul. And quite literally looked like a green dog turd. When I said it was edible, the man offered to exchange but then I would stare blankly at me when I asked which food I could exchange for. At that point, I was so upset and frustrated and not prepared to be stared at by a very confused waiter despite speaking in simple, clear terms and having perfect english as I’ve lived here from birth, nor prepared to wait forever, that I had to leave. It was impossible to communicate with anyone and you’d be just blankly stared at the whole time. I was so so upset to have completely wasted money on this experience. And so so shocked considering the appearance of the restaurant and location. It almost became comical how bad it was and the series of events taking place.

This is the best place to dine in Kinlochleven by a country mile. Excellent simple food all cooked to perfection. Great way to spend the evening after the WHW. Staff are all excellent. Looking forward to returning.

We stayed overnight on the way to Wester Ross on motorcycles,very friendly place good dinner and a good Scottish breakfast. Great view from our room and the bar was really buzzing. The hotel also has a drying room something the Fishers Hotel in Pitlochry does not have— take note

Unbelievably welcoming and staff are amazing and never felt so welcomed in a bar and restaurant in my life. I can't recommend this place enough. Beautiful,warming and lovely atmosphere. Take a visit here. Beautiful!!!!

Wonderful food in a charming location. The balcony upstairs has one of the best views you will ever see—beautiful mountain and the river flowing below. Waitstaff is so friendly

Would have been better off getting a meal deal from the coop across the road. Burger, chips, salad and coleslaw were absolutely rank. Fiancé ended up sick after eating barely half of her macaroni.

Very lovely atmosphere. Wether you live in Kinlochleven, stay at any of the accommodation or passing through. This is a great place to pop into. Fantastic service. Fantastic food.

Nice enough. reasonably comfortable covid safe and all all of my party seemed to enjoy their meals well enough. On the menu was macaroni with chips. There was no option to exchange the chips for anything else. I'm not sure what the thinking behind this can be; surely not plans for a well balanced meal! It was OK. But I think it was possible to see why this place had space when the Tailrace did not.

It’s rare to see a menu that truly makes you want to cry. It seems the idea of 5 a day/ anything local/Scottish are not high on the agenda here. The best that can be said is that the chips were ok.

I liked the food here it was basic but good quality and the service was good. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was pleasant.

While staying at The Highland Getaway Inn, I ate at The Highland Getaway Restaurant in the Inn. It was very convenient (although my room was in a separate building and it was raining both at check-in and at dinner time) and close enough to my room's building.The restaurant had a very comfortable and inviting bar area furnished with lounge chairs and sofas.The food was good. I enjoyed a nice Cottage Pie with Garlic Bread and lubricated with a pleasant Gin & Tonic.

Fell on Kinlochleven by pure luck just out for a drive stopped to fins somewhere for a cuppa, warm and friendly welcome nothing to much trouble, didn't matter if you only wanted a hot drink and a sandwich or a full lunch.

Lovely Chinese meal here last night .It is a pity it only happens once a year. Alex is an excellent Chef and his Salt n Pepper Chicken is outstanding you really must try it on his menu it is to die for.

Staff and locals were friendly and the pub felt warm and welcoming for me and my family. Food was good with great portion sizes. Fish & chips went down a treat.

Good choice of food, with a number of vegetarian/vegan options, at a reasonable price in a warm, friendly environment. Gentle and unhurried a very easy place to eat. Good sized portions, so very filling, but not so huge as to be off putting.

Fantastic food and great helpings. Just back from a beautiful meal at the Highland gateway with family and friends. Food was delicious and very good helpings. Staff where brilliant and very helpful and not expensive. Far better than the Bothy in every way. Will defo be back and recommend to all. Thank you for a great night. Cheers

We came to Kinlochleven for a wedding and came here twice to eat, the portions are good with plenty of choice . On my second visit I had the chicken special with haggis and black pudding wrapped with bacon round it, which I can recommend. On both visits though the toilet lights went working and when I told them they had to turn them on from another room which was locked a and on the first visit couldn't find the boss who had the keys, just thought I'd mention this as I have a bad knee and had to use the toilets down stairs

Had a meal here on our recent trip to the area - great service, great food - have the Glencoe chicken - delicious!

After a long, long hike in the rain, this was the first spot I hit for a comforting pint. The staff and the locals were lively and friendly. Food does not get served before 5pm, then you are sent upstairs to a dining area with an amazing view. Food was very good, signature dish, a stuffed chicken breast with haggis, amazing.Loved this place.

Pub was busy, lively & welcoming. Our apartments were situated just a few yards from the pub. Bedroom, bathroom & sitting room. Front view overlooked main road, which was very quiet. Back view was of the river. Evening meal & drinks in pub in evening, food great just what was needed. Hearty breakfast in the restaurant upstairs in the pub, a good start to the day. Friendly & helpful staff.

Great location, friendly staff. Chinese chicken curry was awesome. Views from upstairs were stunning. Limited cider selection.

Getting to Kinlochleven isn’t easy but it is more than worth it! The Highland Getaway is one of the reasons. It’s quaint and a locals lunch place. My wife had a high cheesy baked potato and I opted for the terrific tomato soup + toasty. All were very YUM. The lovely drive and lovely people made this one our best stops in Scotland.

Ate here with 5 friends, whilst walking West Highland Way. Bar staff were really helpful with our choice of whisky. Food was good, although I felt service was a bit slow, however restaurant was full.

Food was okay but nothing special. The service was friendly. The best feature was the dramatic view of the mountain-side.

We zochten een pub met eten. Helaas is eten niet mogelijk in het pub gedeelte. We besloten in het restaurant gedeelte (waar wij alleen zaten) eerst een voorgerecht te nemen met 2 pints. Om tussendoor een kaartspel te doen en daarna een hoofdgerecht te bestellen. Dit communiceerde wij ook naar de ober.

I'm not a food snob in anyway, I'll be happy with a bowl of chips! But this place was very interesting. I think their lack of customer service is probably their draw card. Walked in, no service, must ask for assistance, not expect it. Get a menu thrown at you from the bar maid who continues conversation with locals. Very dismissive and almost comical - jetlag was setting in and I couldn't do anything but offer a wry smile and keep persevering. I was hungry and tired and wanted to go to bed.

Disappointed with our visit to the highland gateway, the staff were very laid back, to the extent that they were too busy chatting to serve the customers. Starting to serve and then chatting then eventually going back to the customer, turning customers away for food as they were fully booked and food can only be served upstairs in the restaurant, fair enough l, then giving the next customer a menu and telling them they can sit outside! Generally being snappy to the customers. I won’t be back

After a long hike, a sit down with a pint and some good food was the order.

Really good food after a long day. I highly recommend the cottage pie. Balcony restaurant is modern with veiws across the river and down the valley. Good service and free wifi! Unfortunately, a poor selections of deserts but otherwise very good!

The bar staff was very pleasant and the cottage pie was to die for! The view off the back deck was gorgeous, the mountains are idyllic and it was so cool to see them as we ate

Great atmosphere. Staff are friendly. Decent menu with something for everyone. Great portions, full happy belly. The view, even on a cloudy evening is still stunning. Decent prices for huge plate.

We ate at this restaurant recently and were served an apple crumble using tinned apples. How difficult would it have been to buy some cooking apples from the coop across the road and make the real thing. The sticky toffee pudding we also had, we could have sworn was one of those tinned puddings that are boiled prior to serving. Considering the reputation this restaurant has I was surprised. £6:50 for tinned apple crumble is not value for money or good practice.

I stopped in here for food after a long day on the West Highland Way. The view is incredible. The food was exactly what I was after & the service is excellent.

My wife and I have just enjoyed a delicious meal here during our short break. We pre booked our table, definitely recommend, in order to ensure a seat in the restaurant area. We started with one portion of Onion Bhaji to share. I had the home cooked Macaroni Cheese whilst my wife had the Haddock & Chips, with side orders of Onion Rings & Garlic Bread. The food was delicious , piping hot and of generous proportions. A really enjoyable meal served by friendly attentive staff. Free WiFi. Highly Recommended

We were staying in trailrace inn with no atmosphere at all ate in the booth then wow we found you aproper pub and met up with most of the people we had met in route.And what a reunion we had French lads singing to the Scots and vice versa Dutch German and our English. Thank you for a great night best so far and thanks for letting us bring our collie blue in.

Habe hier sehr fein gespiesen. Zum Glück zuvor telefonisch einen Tisch reserviert. Das Restaurant war sehr gut besucht und es wäre schwierig geworden noch einen Platz zu bekommen. Die Speisekarte ist einladend, und die Malzeiten dehr gut zubereitet.

Im wunderschönen Speisesall in der 1. Etage haben wir schottisches Rinderfilet vom Feinsten genossen. Die Weinauswahl ist bemerkenswert gut und der Service sehr freundlich. Wir sind zunächst 3 x an dem Restaurant vorbei gefahren, denn es hat keine erkennbare Beschilderung ausser dem irreführenden Hinweis "BAR".

Second last night if WHW and a joy to find a great pub with quality staff and great food options. The curry was exactly as advertised and very enjoyable.

Food was delicious. service excellent. The resturant was upstairs off the bar, it had a full lenght window with beuatiful views

I ordered the Glencoe chicken and it was very tasty. chicken with stuffed haggis wrapped with bacon. Good location

I donor care for the English kitchen and also here it was as expected. It is however the place in town so always busy and crowded and the bar does make up for the food

On a wintry day on a there-and-back trip up and over the Devil’s Staircase from Glencoe to Lochleven, we arrived in the village soggy and cold and in need of sustenance. Asked a local where she recommended and she pointed us in the direction of The Highland Gateway. They couldn’t have been more welcoming to us ... and a very soggy retriever! Excellent, friendly service, and well-priced food. Very impressed that when I asked if they could do a soya cappuccino they apologised that they were currently out of soya milk ... so there would be a few minutes delay whilst they sent someone across the road to the shop to buy some! Well above-and-beyond for service!

Called in on a Thursday lunchtime. Upon walking into the bar I was made to feel welcome. I asked about dinning upstairs where they have some tables and a nice view of the river. Whilst it was closed off it was no problem to open it up for the family and I. We ordered at the bar and went upstairs to sit down. The views were great, we had the whole floor to ourselves. The service was great and the prices reasonable.

Called for lunch on a rainy autumn day, the bar was quiet. The area was nicely decorated with some local historic photographs on the walls. The food was cooked fresh and delicious.

We started our evening in the pub on a lovely, cozy sofa enjoying a couple drinks. They guided us upstairs shortly for a dinner with beautiful view of the hills surrounding Kinlochleven. Menu is typical Scottish fare. I had 1/4 pound burger w bacon, cheese, and chips, very tasty. My daughter had the scottish salmon special. Service was excellent.

Refeição excelente. Os pratos são bem confecionados e vêm com optima apresentação. Boa variedade de menu. O serviço é muito bom e todos os empregados muito simpáticos.

I did the WHW solo in June and popped in here for something to eat before pitching my tent. Sat in the upstairs area. Unfortunately it was raining heavily so the balcony was closed this time.

we were hiking on the west highland way and stopped by on day 5 of the track. the food was amazing. we had salmon and a vegetarian lasagne - really tasty. the view from the restaurant towards the surrounding mountains and the river is also worth mentioning, as it's located on first floor beneath the rooth. definitely worth a visit

The choice wasn't extensive - the same as most pubs - but the 'special', chicken stuffed with haggis, was good enough and the fish and chips did what it said on the tin. Do book if in season, it can get busy. The view from the upstairs restaurant over the river was lovely - ask for a table by the window. Downstairs is a locals bar where tourists are welcome too.

Beautiful view from the balcony. Friendly staff and excellent value for money. We had lunch here, limited choice, but all you need to fill up after a hike.

Tasty meal, served very promptly in a really pleasant venue with tasteful ambience. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Nothing left to chance.

Went there on Trip Advisor ratings and we were not disappointed! Great location next to the Leven River, with the restaurant overlooking the river and great views north to the highland slopes. Excellent menu, with Glencoe Chicken being a standout favourite. Tap beer a bit limited but any pub with Guinness on tap has to be forgiven. Friendly staff, spacious seating, great menu. What more could you want? The night we went there was a busy coming and going of walkers and a happy contented atmosphere of many nationalities and languages anchored in good wholesome Scottish hospitality. Highly recommend.

Abbiamo cenato qui una sera di Agosto. Zuppa e una specie di spezzatino. Tutto veramente buono, birra compresa! Abbiamo cenato al piano di sopra, l'interno del locale in legno dava su una vetrata che mostrava il meraviglioso paesaggio!

Had a great meal here after reading the reviews. The Glencoe chicken was amazing (chicken stuffed with haggis and wrapped in bacon) and the portion was huge. The homemade lasagne was also very good. Lovely location looking out on to river from the first floor

Eten prima, goed bieren, mooi uitzicht op de rivier, nadeel op terras mag men niet roken. Het was een prachtige dag en tot laat in het zonnetje gezeten.

Op het eerste verdiep (boven het gezellige café) kan je verdienstelijk en niet duur eten. Met een prachtig zicht op de rivier.

We came here while walking the west highland way and after a nasty experience in another local pub and we're so happy with the service and food. The toasties are great and the comfy sofa was my dearest wish after five days walking and camping. Will definately pop in next time we are in the area.

Fatigue and hungry from our trip from Kinlochleven we‘ve visited Highland Getaway Restaurant. I‘ve chosen a Crab Salat as a starter and a Beef

C'était complet pour dîner, on a commandé une bière au bar et le barman nous a trouvé 10 minutes plus tard une table en terrasse, au dessus de la rivière, soleil couchant. Bon repas , resto propre. Au pub, canapés très confortables.

Sehr geiles Zimmer, sowas sollte Standard werden in GB. Der Inhaber und die Angestellten sind sehr höflich und fix. Das Essen ist sehr frisch und überaus lecker. Und der Ausblick ist der Killer. Wir könnens nur empfehlen.

We went there at 18h30 only to find out that it was full already for the evening,but a table could possibly free up around 20h o`clock. We went back at 20h and the waitress was able to get us a table. The wait for the food was long, but then again it was very busy in the restaurant. Most importantly, the food was excellent! I got a gourmet burger double up and it was probably the best burger I ever had. Top!

There’s pub food and pub food but this was of a high standard. Had the famous curry, delish! Next day went for the beef burger, again delish. Balcony area very nice and above the rapids. Fun to see the tubers going down the river! Only thing they could improve on: umbrella’s on the balcony when the sun’s out.

After walking all day we were looking for comfort food. Menu had good selection. Food was tasty and service was good Restaurant and bar downstairs were busy for Tuesday evening although tourist trade made up numbers

Feels very Scottish upon walking in. Convivial atmosphere and excellent chicken stuffed with haggis and wrapped in bacon. That is their signature dish and probably the best on the menu. Lasagne just OK. Same with burgers and salads. Limited selection of beers and wine. Great views from balcony or through windows to mountains. Service excellent. Convenient location.

Day 6 of walking....and we were famished. This is the closest pub/restaraunt to the glamping pods...and it was perfect.

I know that a combination of chicken and haggis can hardly go wrong, but I had one of the most juicy chickens I ever had. Me and my friend were doing the west highland way, and after a looong day at the devil's staircase we stopped at this restaurant. It has a great view at the river! We had dinner and was able to continue the trail.

Back again for another fantastic meal, we always eat at the Highland Getaway when we are on holiday and have always found it to be excellent and we weren't let down on this visit, the food was fantastic along with the service. The views from the restaurant and balcony over the river are superb. It was very busy on the night that we ate, I would suggest booking a table if you are thinking of dining there in the future. Well done to Kate & Hugh (owners) along with their staff for looking after us, can't wait to go back.

Went in the Highland Getaway for an evening beer but very disappointed to find that it didn’t have any cask beer so, sorry, but didn’t stay.

I sat at the nearly empty bar in the early afternoon and had a nice lunch with friendly service from a young bartender. The macaroni cheese and garlic bread was quite good. The salads were less so, but I've found that at nearly every stop along the West Highland Way. Price was reasonable for what was received.

Myself, my partner and 4 friends had a very challenging walk from Inveroran across Rannoch moor through very heavy snow and upon arriving at Highland Gateway were told that they could not cater for us at 8pm for dinner. No explanation given and we were left with little option but to google close by establishments to try and get fed - which we managed easily at the Macdonald hotel.

Dined there whilst staying in the village for one night. We hadn’t booked but fairly quiet for a Friday night. The food was excellent and reasonable in price and the views from the upstairs restaurant were great, Tried the local bottled beer brewed by the...
