In addition to chips and fish, this chip shop in Reading also offers Chinese food. If you pay over 20, you will get free prawn crackers, and if you pay over 50, you will get 1.25L drink and prawn crackers. As far as I know, everything is expensive in today's economy. Is there any takeaway restaurant that gives away prawn crackers when ordering for more than 20 pounds?

This is the third bad experience with this chip shop. We gave the benefit of the doubt the first two times but same again this evening. Missing items, microwaved pie which turned out to be stone cold when getting it home and a portion of scampi costing £4.50 & only getting 4 pieces! Not to mention the spam fritter cooked to within an inch of its life. Staff have been rude the last two times we've ordered from there and the food is overpriced and nowhere near the quality it used to be. Will not be returning.

DO NOT BUY THERE SAUCE! i can’t believe they have the audacity to sell there sauces at such a high price for such a small amount and low quality. it’s the worst i’ve ever seen size wise and then it’s just poor quality aswell. the satay sauce taste like they have thrown peanuts in a sweet and sauce sauce and the curry sauce is just bland. this is the first and last time i will go to this establishment

Sadly fish and chips not up to usual standard. Thick chewy batter to disguise a thin fillet of haddock and of cod. Chips not nice either.

Over priced chips reheated I am giving 1 star for the fish cash only

I like Highrise. Good quality food, good service, friendly staff, easily accessible with local parking. brilliant diversity on the menu with competitive prices.

Fast Service, Friendly Staff, good quality food of a consistent quality. Good variety on the menu with decent price. Good access to Parking, extremely local. Only problem is you cannot with a card.

Used this Chinese for many years but very disappointed this evening chow mein very bad had a bisto style sauce very thick dark and glutinous….. not nice at all…. Called back and was told kitchen would be informed Time to try another I think

Mushy peas were fine and given complimentary prawn crackers! Will try the other place next time. Queue wasn't as long as the other place. Cash only and a free withdrawal cash machine was a couple of shops away. The Chinese menu options were extensive and looked appealing.

The best chips, the best satay sauce (ever) and great staff. The only downfall is there are basically no veggie/vegan options for either the chippy or Chinese. Once tofu or some other alternatives get added it would easily be 5/5

Fast and friendly service. Nice chips. Good Chinese food along side fish and chips. Love that they also do spam fritter, so few places do a classic chip shop staple as this now. Clean, easy parking. Don't forget to take cash ad they don't take card payments. It is pricey Chinese food but good quality. Service is always fast.

very disappointed and definitely not coming here again. on 3rd may 2022 i took my wife and kids here. to start off with, the food was awful, and then the owner tried to kidnap my son, mark.

We had Chinese takeaway of chicken chow mein and a few chips. The food was really nice and will have it again.

The best fish and chips in Reading out 10 I'll give it higher, they are very polite and the food is prepared while you wait and it's worth waiting for, everyone in Reading should go to the High Rise bar, you won't be disappointed at all.

The satay chicken was lovely, chicken curry was very nice. Very friendly stuff and the Chinese food was very delicious and authentic. Definitely would recommend!

Tried this for the first time. The bamboo shoots were nasty. All woody and impossible to eat. Skimping on the quality of basic ingredients doesn't inspire confidence.

Very nice service with delicious fish. Chips are too greasy for me, to be honest, and not crispy at all, too white, they look undercooked but are not.

I asked for a vegetable spring roll and chips. I said several times please make sure its vegetable. I leave and bite in to my spring roll and its prawn. I am allergic to fish. I call them and explain just to be told yes vegetable. I had to sit in the car park for an hour while throwing up and having hot flushes and trouble with my eyes. I am never buying for my family from here again. They could have literally killed me . So discussing.

No social distancing, dealing in cash, and no protective screens at counter

Esta fue mi primera y última visita. Mientras estaba afuera leyendo el menú a mi esposa por teléfono, ¡todo el personal adentro me miraba como si los estuviera denunciando a las autoridades! Cuando entré a la orden, fueron contundentes, al borde de la mala educación. Habíamos visto en otras reseñas que su "especialidad" era una hamburguesa con queso rebozada, así que pedimos una para probar. Qué error. Es básicamente un crimen de guerra frito. El resto del pedido, bacalao y patatas fritas, eran normales pero grasientos. Una experiencia desagradable.

Lovely staff, quick service, a real treat. This place had been there forever and long may it continue. I would not go anywhere else, love the set meals.

Normally places that do multiple food types do neither very well. The High Rise Bar breaks this stereotype. Their fish and chips are great and the Chinese is the best takeaway in the area. In a way I am glad they do not deliver and cannot be found on "Just Eat" as I'd be ordering multiple times a week! What ever you order expect a wait whilst they cook it fresh. The wait will be worth it. If your not the paitent type call ahead to order, then rock up and collect.

Best Fish and Chips in the whole of Reading. Try the Cheeseburger in batter, it's a rarity but absolutely lovely. Wish we had somewhere that does this in Bournemouth.

This used to be the best chip shop in Reading but it now has new owners😞 I’ve eaten here a few time since the new owner took over. it’s slowly getting worse. the portions are smaller. The chips are so greasy it’s like they have been cooked twice. The cod was ok but greasy. The curry sauce was sweeter than curry sauce should be. I wish the old owners would come back at least to may be train the new owners.

Best chips in the area. Willing to travel passed several other places to come here. Will try the Chinese side soon.

My normal order is steak and kidney pie, chips and a large curry sauce. The portion of chips is very generous and well-cooked, and I love them swimming in the very nice curry sauce. The pie is the standard microwaved Pukka pie, which is not that great. Keep meaning to try the Chinese menu, but I usually use takeaways that do home delivery for that.

Very good food, quick and efficient staff. We use this restaurant weekly. Would recommend to anyone wanting a decent takeaway in the Tilehurst area.

My go-to Chinese. Great menu, bit pricey but very nice. Always consistent and very enjoyable. No need to go anywhere else. Can't wait for my next meal from here.

Brilliant fish and chips and Chinese food, in my experience this is one of the best chippies in Reading. Nice people too, one of the stalwart ladies has been there forever, since I was a kid and a portion of chips was 85p!

The only chinese we ever go to. Absolutely love the food here and the staff are really friendly. Ordering for collection is recommended on busy nights to avoid the queue. The chip shop side is fantastic too, we love ordering from here as a special treat. It is cash only but there's a free cash machine outside the co op but if it isn't working co op does do cash back. Avoid the cash machine to the right as it charges.

Great fish & chip shop come Chinese takeaway. Really friendly, fast service and great food. I've even turned up as they are locking the door at the end of the day and they've opened specially and cooked me a fish & chips around the back. Can't fault them at all.

Always good value at this fish bar , served with a nice greeting and a smile . The Chinese takeaway menu is good and if you ring your order through it only takes about 10 minutes and is ready for collection , always very tasty food .

I visited this place for fish and chips. The cod was expensive at £4.10 and the chips were also higher than the norm at £1.80. The staff were quite blunt in the way they spoke and there was certainly no warmth and I didn't really feel like a welcome customer. At first, I thought that my chips were pre cooked and then put back in the fat to heat up, but once I started eating them, they were actually quite nice. The fish was extremely tasty but was covered in the most greasy batter that I think I have ever had. It had absorbed the oil like a sponge. Correct cooking temperature???? The two mouthfuls that I had before dissuading the rest tasted like Chinese batter for sweet and sour balls and was quite frankly horrible. A shame really, because the piece of cod was very tasty indeed. When I was asked if I wanted salt and vinegar, I was given a quick shake of vinegar. I asked for lots more, but still got very little. There was no bottle on the side for customer use and I had to make do. Not good, because I like chips to be drenched in vinegar. Overall, very ordinary indeed, but with potential to be better. I don't think I will ever go back to see if there is any improvement.

I have been to every chippy in reading over the last few years, this is the best one for cod chips and curry sauce Imo.
