We visited the hideaway while on holiday this week and it was amazing. So cosy and warm feeling. The staff were fabulous and so good with our little boy. They were kind and helpful. It felt so homey and relaxed. The food was outstanding. We chose our meals from the specials and they did not disappoint. Will be back next year for our summer trip!

This is one of our go-to pubs. On a hot summer's day, looking over the cliff top with a refreshing drink in hand is a great way to while away the time. The views are amazing (can see the main land). Very Unwelcoming! Arrived with my wife and 4 children. We asked for a table, lady with bleached pink/red hair at counter asked how many? I told her 2 adults, 4 children. She went away to the kitchen, to ask the chef, came back to say they could not accommodate us, even though there were no reserved tables and lots of empty chairs. Would not recommend.

We dined here yesterday.. staff were lovely but the portions were just not worth the money.. I had the lasagna served in an oval bowl, which didn’t even cover the dish accompanied by a small salad and a stingy piece of dry garlic bread priced at £16.95! My partner had a small piece of cod, chips and peas.. again, all v skimpy.. if you are going to charge high prices, please, at least, provide proper sized portions..

Went for Sunday evening dinner and the roasts were available although the veg was minute portions and there were no green veg, having sold out of broccoli. Can't believe how many good reviews there are for this place. The reason we went there... The views are great and that's about it. The food is possibly the worst I've ever had anywhere. Overpriced and seriously overrated. I was at your establishment a few weeks ago. Why would I be in your diary when I came in for lunch? Can't handle a negative review and I'm far from faceless. Your food was terrible as mentioned to your staff at the counter when leaving.

I really wanted to love the food as this place is in one of my favourite spots for drinking and enjoying the views. I ordered the roast dinner which was cold when it arrived. The roast potatoes and one small piece of broccoli were soggy and the Yorkshire pudding stale. There was a brown coloured gel on the dinner which I think was supposed to be gravy. No flavour at all. The 3 other people in my party had the same experience but didn't complain as we didn't want to make a scene and ruin our evening. Really gutted

should’ve known we were in trouble when i got served another flat lime soda after complaining that my lime soda was flat. laughably bad veggie roast!! soggy wellington stuffed with bitter cranberry sauce, leeks crunchy and sour, yorkshire puds burnt, potatoes anaemic and veg all boiled. apparently the meat roast was just as ‘bland’ and the halloumi fries were frigid and squeaky. remarkable what good views (and i can’t deny that they’re great) can do to a place’s reviews - are people actually enjoying this food?! the host was lovely but there was a general air of disorganisation and no ambience whatsoever.

The food was awful the portion size even worse for the money. Steak and ale pie has to be the worst I’ve had the burger were not homemade they tasted like a frozen grill steak hunters chicken very poor!! The best thing about this place is the view. I didn’t complain at the time as my wife was upset with the standard you served us! You actually ruined her birthday!! We had booked a table which is recommended. I must say I sat facing the window with incredible views out to sea. The food was served hot and good size portions. I had the the Sunday lunch, the roast potatoes and stuffing would of been better if not almost cremated to a crisp. The beef I have had better, the other meals were ok. My daughter ordered a chocolate chip ice cream, they sent out something completely different as they had run out. She was not asked if that was OK just presumed it was. When it got to our table it looked like it had been sat near a heat source as the top was a layer of mush. We were disappointed with the hole experience after seeing such good reviews.

We visited the Hideaway due to all the great reviews and lovely photos, but unfortunately we found it very disappointing. As it was full inside, we had to sit in the garden. However, the outside seating area is quite dated and dirty, which is especially concerning as it is decorated to appeal to children, but I wasn’t very comfortable letting our son explore and wander round. The staff were lovely and took our orders efficiently, but there were long delays between the meals arriving. Even though we were all sitting on the same table, one of us got our meal a good 15 minutes before the others, and even more baffling was the kid’s meal arriving so long after the parents’. To make matters worse, the kids meal was clearly just a supermarket microwave pizza (which our son didn’t touch at all) so I’m very confused why it took so long to appear. The adult meals were fine but definitely not worth the prices we paid (£16.75 for cod and chips and around £12 for a burger that came with no sauce or cheese). Lastly there were very few non-alcoholic drink options, so I opted for a mocktail and was amazed when the can that was on display (un-refrigerated for who knows how long) was simply decanted into a glass with no ice. Overall, from our visit, I simply don’t understand how the Hideaway has become so well rated. I never leave bad reviews, but our experience here soured an otherwise pleasant day trip to Shanklin.

Having eaten here 2 nights. The food standard was excellent both nights. The ambience in the restaurant would be better with more clients. The service on both evenings was attentive without being intrusive.. The trout small plate was delightful in taste and presentation. The lamb and duck dishes were cooked perfectly and presented beautifully. Both dishes were well balanced and filling. The cod dish was very filling and an unusual presentation of cod and crab. The meal was complete with great champagne and wine without a need for a pudding! Compliments to the kitchen brigade and waiting staff

Crab and mackerel right by the sea. What more could you want? Not cheap, but nobody wants a cheap crab pasty and everything is here is top quality and is really good value. The wine is good quality too and compliments the food. Also, the setting is fab and with access a bit challenging you feel as if your meal is well earned.

All big thanks to the worker who gave me a poisonous food and gave me no drinks instead of apple juice, I hate no drinks!
