We went to see Errol Linton at the Hideaway in February, 2020. Only upon entering the venue are you given the stark choice between getting a table somewhere near the stage by saying you are there to dine, with the default being that you are made to stand behind a glass screen completely separated from the main music room near the bar at the back. So, having paid the price of entry, with nothing said about having to dine if you want to be anywhere near the band when you buy the tickets, you are effectively blackmailed into eating from a pretty sparse menu.My grilled seabass was .......a nondescript bit of grllled fish, no more, no less. Waiting staff are constantly passing in front of you without reference to what's going on onstage, no consideration given for people who want to hear the band. People seated around us weren't that interested in the music, more in getting lashed on rosé and arguing. No consideration for others. Errol and his band can do no wrong in my eyes, albeit that that I felt that the performance was inhibited by the setting and they weren't as loose as usual. Shan't be returning unless someone really remarkable plays there, but if they were that remarkable a musician, why would they want to play a venue off the main drag in Streatham?

Gran lugar! He estado en Hideaway muchas veces. What a gem the Hideaway Jazz and Comedy Club is. Every visit is Just as good as the last regardless whether you go on a Friday, Saturday or for Sunday lunch, the level of service is always constant and the welcome that the staff give from arrival to the time you leave is second to none. My wife and I visited the Hideaway on Sunday to listen to the Jazz Dynamos and it was another great visit to what is a fantastic venue. Great staff, great venue, great music and great value for money - what more could you ask for. We are looking forward to going again very soon with our family and friends. Please keep doing what you are doing for music lovers everywhere.

My mum’s friend rented out the hideaway for her 25th wedding anniversary and we had an amazing night out. They had a really good selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and the live band were wonderful. Although it looks a little run-down from the outside, the interior is really nice. The only slight problem was that the bouncer was quite rude - Obviously a private function requires a bouncer to keep non-invitées our. However, the bouncer was being rude to people who were coming out of the venue for fresh air and when asking us to follow his orders he didn’t say please or thank you. Despite this, overall I really enjoyed my evening and I’m looking forward to coming back :)

Always love coming to this venue, we try to see a variety of acts, most of which are excellent. Sadly, wasn't impressed with this performance, Brinsley Ford did an excellent set of Bob Marley tracks, can't wait for him to return, it was such a good night. Food ok, the menu needs updating, previous years, there was more choice menu at the moment is limited. Can't wait to return, it's hard to find a venue like this locally.

We've been here a few times, staff always lovely, good selection of food with lots of choice for everyone. Got a table second row from the front, so a good view. Susan was a little disappointing, after coming on 15mins late, proceeded to sing for half an hour and had another half an hour break, decided to leave rather than wait any longer for second set to start, shame really wanted to support. Parking no longer available, found a spot on side road. Looking forward to returning, not put off.

I saw Carroll Thompson here last night with a friend & what a great night it was. We got there early to queue for opening at 7pm to ensure that we got a good table. Tables for two are in the first two rows, so we got FRONT row seats which was fabulous! Servers were very prompt to take our drink and food offer. We had bread & olives to start. Bread was rock hard, wouldn’t choose that again, but the Jerk Chicken was good, nice & spicy & hot. Last but not least Carroll Thompson & her musicians gave a fantastic performance and I would definitely see her again & would be more than happy to come to this venue again. We travelled by train. It is very convenient for Streatham tail station, just minutes away. You can access the club via a little walkway near Sports Direct from the High Street. I would imagine parking could be difficult if you are driving.

Definitivamente voy a volver.

! Nunca he conocido.

I found Hideaway by sheer luck plucking through things to do in London on google. My girlfriend and I were both in London during the day and wanted something to do in the evening. It was then that I found that Tony Momrelle was playing at this little London jazz club. Not knowing what to expect and both going in with an open mind we were blown away with the whole night. The staff were amazing, the table we got was 2 rows from the front (we got there at 7 as recommended on the email we got before going) which meant we had a great view of the music later that evening. The food was well priced and the portion sizes were huge. Tony Momrelle was also incredible but seeing as the review is about the venue not the music I'll leave it there. In the seven years since Hideaway was opened we have visited over eighty times. The attraction is the music and the intimacy of the venue. In recent months the venue has had to post the sold out signs more and more. The menu is not extensive but this is understandable as often 250 diners need to be fed in a fairly short time frame. The quality of the food is excellent and we have rarely had anything to complain about. The waiting staff are friendly and exceptionally well organised. South London has lacked an intimate quality music venue for more years than I care to remember and Hideaway has filled the void and become a great venue for lovers of jazz andsoul music. If you love these genres of music you will not be disappointed.

Unfortunately The Hideaway, which used to be my favourite local cafe and music venue has gone down the pan. The Cafe, when I visited a few months ago had suddenly changed the menu from a full hot breakfast to crepe's (is this a creperie now?!) and the food in the live music club was unimaginative and flavourless. On top of the fact that you pay a reasonable fee to get into the club in the first place this poor standard of food that you have to pay extra to eat is simply unacceptable. From what I can see this aspect of the business needs a complete overhaul.Don't bother going for the food for you will be severely disappointed.

Came to Streatham for the first time for a business meeting and ended up looking for somewhere to have lunch. The vibrant colours of Hideaway were calling to us, so we went in, only to be confronted by something from a horror movie like the Stepford Children. Everyone in the place was sat at the table, very stiffly and talking quietly amongst themselves but there was no food or drink in front of them?? There was one women behind the counter with her back to the room working away. We waited at the counter as the sign indicated but no one came to deal with us.We looked around wondering what was going on and decided to leave. We went a few doors along to the Filling Station and had lunch there (that's a different review) We returned to Hideaway to see what it was about. This time there was another waitress who took our order and told us to take a seat. We didn't really want Crépes but that seemed to be mostly what they had, so we ordered the full English breakfast and the caramelised pear crépe.We waited and waited and finally the penny dropped as to why everyone was sat at empty, foodless tables, because they had to wait so damn long for their crépes as there was only one women cooking and one waitress who took the orders and did everything else.We got bored waiting and started chatting to the waitress Anna, who looked after us very well but seemed a bit uneasy to talk as the women who was cooking seemed to be the one in charge and we got the feeling that she probably had the attitude that she was paying her staff to work and not chat to customers (ok, I'll leave the owner to consider that one and won't advise you on that issue)Making crépes sounds easy but getting the crépe recipe right and cooking them so they are light and fluffy is an art which Hideaway almost got right, as these were a bit hard to the taste and missed the mark.If it wasn't for the friendly banter with Anna this review would have been much more scathing.Good try but expensive and tasteless crépes with small amounts of filling. Profit margins are one thing but customer satisfaction is another, i'll leave it up to you to consider which is more important!

It saddens me that I even have to leave a negative review about The Hideaway as it's one of my favourite entertainment venues in London and I'm a local HOWEVER I would really love for someone to explain why their cafe, which used to serve the best English Breakfast in London has now morphed into a creperie??I went there on Sunday with my sister, boyfriend and my boyfriends brother for my usual English Breakfast complete with halloumi cheese and the best Cumberland Sausages I've ever had. It was supposed to be a no-brainer but instead of giving us the usual menu which had a great selection of hot breakfasts, wraps and pancakes, they gave us instead a menu that ONLY had crepe's on it.Now I have nothing against crepe's. I infact LOVE crepes but I did not go to a creperie so why am I being told that they are only offering crepes?? - they even went so far as to offer my beloved English Breakfast in a crepe! Who on earth came up with that ridiculous idea? - Sorry, but it's awful.Note to The Hideaway: If you want to start serving crepes then by all means do so but not in replacement of your most popular breakfast items! I had no choice but to walk out and if they do not change the menu then I won't be venturing in their again.

I can't recommend this place highly enough. My daughter and I had a fabulous couple of hours here on an autumn Sunday afternoon - she's working in London at the moment and I travelled down by train from Birmingham (the relevance of which is that I will make the long journey again specifically). We both had Sunday roast which was most excellent - we are both fans of the trad roast and it definitely didn't let us down. The service was attentive, polite and non intrusive, the price was very reasonable. The atmosphere was chilled - couples, families, young, old, older.. all very relaxed. We saw 5 Go Jiving who were just great - a brilliant mix of swing, jive, jazz, rock n roll - along with a fab guest singer.Have I gushed enough? Seriously - go and find out for yourself.I'll be back.

As a fan of cool jazz, soul and R&B I simply had to check this place out. Did not reget it the first or the second time. The first time I went here in April, I saw Japanese soul singer Nao Yoshioka headline. She was fantastic. I went with a friend. Food we ordered was just a filler (fried potatoes/root beer). The service was polite and attentive by the waitors/waitresses. The sound was on point and well balanced and the low light complimented the music choices. The second time I went recently, I saw British soul singer Louise Golbey tear it up. It was fun. Its a great venue and tickets are very cost effective (I havent paid more than £15).

Really good night out. We went for part of the Jazz festival in October. Food was nice. Its a shame the venue is hidden on a side road. Definitely living up to its name.

I am writing this review just only because I have been there few times. I really like the place the atmosphere and the food. But the staff although is very nice and smiling, looks like they don't really know what they do . All it is very slow, we have waited 1 hour for breakfast. where there restaurant wasn't busy at all. And when we asked for the bill and when it been given we had to wait another 15 min until we went to the counter and paid there. Looks like the staff is just not organised at all and not paying attention what is happening on the floor. Something must be wrong. as I said all is great but this need to be looked in. I will be still coming and hopefully it will improve. Many thanks

Friends who have known about this place for time asked if we'd like to come along to see an evening celebrating the iconic 60's British Pop sound of Shirley Bassey & Dusty Springfield. Whats not to love? Great music, friends and food... The name is apt as Hideaway is tucked away from the busy main road down a short alley in Empire Mews. The venue is intimate with a maximum head count of 250, so not massive as a live music venue. Walking in the open plan space opens up with several rows of candle lit tables radiating backwards from the stage. An enclosed bar at the rear of the venue allows the drink service to carry on through the performance without causing disruption. Hideaway is best described as a music venue with a good side line in soulful food. Music is the primary reason to come and once the show starts people take the music seriously (i.e. talking during the set is not approved of and expect to be shushed if you do) The doors opened at 7pm and the show kicked off at 9pm, quite a tight window to to turn around all the covers. Some of our group arrived early and there was an obvious pressure to get the orders in early. However we chose to wait for all members of the party to arrive before ordering so we could eat together. When the order went in we weren't waiting long for the food as they understandably like to have the service wound up before the music commences. With this kind off set up amazing food is always going to be a big ask, but I was very pleasantly surprised by the food that was served up. Starters from £5.00 - £7.00 and main course dishes a very reasonable £12.50 - £15.00.I had a lamb kofta dish which was generous and tasty. The portion size was bountiful and others in the group were easily outfaced by the portion size. Luckily I was not one as I finished off the meal with a delicious sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce and caramel honeycomb icecream. For a those with a sweet-tooth this comes highly recommended. The music was fantastic and the atmosphere was buzzing as familiar favourites were delivered with panache and others given clever reinterpretation by the singers and band members. Even seated at the back off the venue we had a great view of the performance and felt involved, providing the perfect ending to a fantastic nights entertainment. I need a h h h hideaway...

Have been about five times now to this venue to see various acts and the comedy club. Didn't like being made to share a table for Omar most recently, would have tried to drag along a few friends had I known. The first twice we went the jerk chicken and salad were to die for, and I was recommending the restaurant to my friends and work colleagues. On the third visit it was appalling, and I complained to the waitress about it. Gone were the to die for potato wedges, frozen chips I think in their place, last visit more palatable. The table service it has to be said is shambolic, you wait ages between courses and for your drinks, better to collect those yourself from the bar. On the occasion I complained the staff were completely disinterested. However your tables are virtually on the stage, and acts are within touching distance. Acoustically great, make sure it is an act you want to see and you will overlook the rest of it. Other items on the menu looked great but we didn't try them.

Been a few times to hideaway, always to the live music performances, most recently to see the great reggae artist carol Thompson, also seen a few jazz artists there. Great ambience and it's not too big a place so has an intimate feel, food is OK and reasonably priced, but that's not why you go to the hideaway, its to appreciate the live music, staff have always been friendly, people of all ages , just a good time to be had, would highly recommend it.

Been here as a punter and a performer - had great couple of gigs here, and been to some great performances too. Always entertaining, with efficient staff (even on busy nights). The busy nights you might have to share a table but that's part of the fun.. Only mild criticism would be that when it's busy there's nowhere to dance! But that's being very fussy - you can always stand up where you are and boogie..

I've visited the hideaway cafe quite a few times last year but stopped going because of poor service- one waitress was particularly rude on a number of occasions. However, went back recently as friends wanted to meet there and the experience was great. Service was brilliant and the atmosphere is lovely.

I have been to the Hideaway Jazz Cafe several times before and had good experiences. However, on this occasion the customer service was so poor that I will not be spending my money there again. There is new staff there who don't have a clue what they are doing. We entered the cafe and were not greeted at the door or shown to an available table- fair enough they were busy. However, after waiting 15mins because no one bothered to come to take our order, we had to walk up to the waiter to take our order. My mum ordered a cappuccino with a shot of amaretto flavoured syrup along with her meal. However, when she received it she could not smell or taste the amaretto. The waiter reassured her he had put a shot of amaretto syrup in. When we received our bill we noticed we had been charged for disaronno at £3.30! We questioned the waiter and he had thought we wanted a shot of disaronno in the cappuccino!!!!Absolutely appalling customer service! My mum is on medication preventing her from drinking alcohol and she mentioned she was feeling light headed. Thank goodness I drove that day. The waiter was apologetic however this experience is enough to not want to spend our money there again.

Visited on Saturday 5 March, lovely venue great sight lines with plenty of tables, big bar at the back looking directly at the stage. Food was enjoyable. My only concern was travelling from Central London by public transport made getting home challenging, I will be driving next time, there was a car park I saw at the back of the venue.

Went out with my meet up group expecting to watch Kevin J, however was very disappointed as he was not one of the acts, although he was advertised. Some of the supporting comedians did a good job, however i came out to watch Kevin J and was really looking forward to the evening, seen him before, he is so funny and really gets the whole audience roaring with laughter. Another disappointment was the cloak room, i was asked to handover my coat for £1, however requested that i keep my coat as i was cold and stated that i have a disability with my arm and needed to be warm, however the security suggested that i wrap my scarf around my arm to keep it warm. Not a good fashion trend for me, also this would have drawn more attend to my disability. I was not impressed. We should be given the option to keep our coats or to put it in the cloak room, am not going to dance, just watching a show. So you can imagine the queue after the show for coats, one lady lost her ticket she was not at all happy to be kept a side until everyone collected their coats. All for an extra £100 for coats in the kitty. Additionally the toilets were filthy, no toilet rolls, like no one was bothered to clean the toilets before we arrived, we were located in the smaller venue of the hideaway, towards the back, food was not great, the jerk chicken was tasteless with cold chips. The food here is hit and miss, as i have eaten here a few times, only once did i enjoy their food and ordered the jerk chicken and sweet potatoes chips, it was so delicious, never tasted chicken so good, possibly different chefs on duty. Am going to watch Omar next month am going to make sure i eat out before the show. Great venue for entertainments, which is very local to my group, have seen great shows in the past here

I have attended Hideaway on a few occasions. Whilst the performers are always amazing the food is less so. I have a real mix of opinions on it.The starters tend to be ok but it is the main course that sometimes leaves much to be desired. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Sometimes orders from the bar are slow in coming.

Unfortunately I had our work Xmas lunch here, not a great experience. The food was truly awful, I had fish, it was uncooked and tasted really weird. So I only eat the starter, which was just about edible. Many of my colleagues have in fact sent their food back. Service pretty bad too, we waited for over an hour for starters and we were all squashed in like cattle, no space to even get out. Not to mention the extortionate price we had to pay for it. All in all, a very unpleasant experience which has put me off work Xmas lunches in the future. I cannot comment on the Jazz club part, I was there for lunch only... But if you do go to a gig, try to eat somewhere else.

My wife and I decided to stay local for a NYE celebration so opted for the Hideaway having been there once before for a concert and also popped in a few times for a drink and a bit to eat.We had a great evening and thoroughly enjoyed the music by Soul Street with Joy Rose. We had a great table towards the back of the venue on the right not too close to other tables, the tables in front of us were very close together but then again this is a social occasion. The service and food was also really good and plentiful so when we had a long wait for the dessert it was not a problem as we were focused on the music and needed the break. All in all a very enjoyable evening, well done to the Hideaway and their staff. Would we recommend it, Yes. Would we go again and celebrate NYE there, yes we would.

What a great Jazz Club. Saw the great Courtney Pine, we had a front row table. The food was acceptable at a reasonable price. But this isn't a food place it is a music club. The atmosphere was terrific, lots of tables, good acoustics. I haven't been to such a good music venue with a jazzy nightclub feel for a long time. And of course Courtney Pine was wonderful

Wanting a nice place to eat along with some musical entertainment whilst on a short London break I opted to go to the Hideaway. Although a little apprehensive having read a handful of negative reports on Tripadvisor I needn't have worried. On entry my girlfriend and I received a warm welcome at the door and were shown to a number of tables of which we took our pick. I must add at this point that we did arrive soon after the club opened for the evening as advised by another contributor so as to guarantee getting a table. The staff were very friendly and helpful and after ordering drinks we ordered food. Having again read about bad experiences dining in the club, I'm pleased to say we were very happy with our food and the portion sizes. We were entertained by swing band "Ray Gelato and the Giants" who were brilliant and got everyone in a great mood. Staff kept a watchful eye on tables to make sure guests had drinks. I didn't have to leave my table once to go to the bar. Attentive without being intrusive which is what you expect. It is a great club, not too big or small with good acoustics. Nice atmosphere too. On a par with Ronnie Scotts although I think I prefer the Hideaway. Overall a fab night out at a lovely venue and I wouldn't hesitate to go there again.N.B. The club has a small car park on site but I easily found nearby free on-street parking.

The coffee was nice but the owner is strange- at first it seemed maybe he was trying to be friendly (?) asking lots of questions but then he started getting too close for comfort, putting his hand on my waist to walk past me about 3 times in under a minute. All while his wife was right there, strange vibe.
