The food was amazing Ana every single staff member was helpful and knew what they were doing but our server Gem stood out and really made my 21st birthday amazing !!!

We visited for my fiancées birthday, we had a fantastic time. The staff are so friendly and the food is really nice. The milkshakes were delicious (strawberry shortcake). Hickory’s need to bring back the Hogs Heaven deal though PLEASE!

Everything was just perfect, The brisket melted in my mouth and the service was amazing. Nothing is too much for the staff, they couldn’t do enough for us! Will definitely be returning.

I booked a table for 2 at Hickory's after hearing about their thanksgiving menu. I've never had a thanksgiving meal before and I was looking forward to trying a roast dinner, US style. I booked an early timeslot to avoid the rush, but after we were shown to our table there was no sign of the thanksgiving menu. We had to ask if they were still doing it and why the menus weren't out. Considering this was the whole reason for booking, I found it strange that they weren't promoting this. Anyway, we ordered drinks. Hubby enjoyed the root beer float and the free popcorn. There is always a good atmosphere here, even during the quieter periods and the pub was nicely decorated for Xmas. We ordered the thanksgiving dinner and the go big or go home burger. The food came out in good time and the portion sizes were generous. The thanksgiving dinner was really nice. The turkey was good quality. I enjoyed the tater tots and fried cauliflower mornay and it came with plenty of gravy too. For dessert we had fro-co and the chocolate fudge cake, which rounded off the meal nicely. It is quite an expensive place to eat, which is partly why I always get them to remove the service charge at the end, but it's nice to have somewhere to eat nearby which is unique from your standard eateries and pub grub. The menu is large, offering a good selection of US smokehouse classics, such as brisket, ribs and pulled pork. There is also a small selection of vegan and vegetarian options. My hubby and his mates love all things meat and BBQ, so this will always be high on the list when choosing somewhere to meet. It's great for get-togethers with family and friends, especially the extra touches they provide if you're celebrating. Definitely a place to try if you're looking for something different.

Visited for a meal with the family and the food was delicious, my mac and cheese was to die for. Only complaint was something odd me and my daughter saw, a waiter scratched his bum and sniffed his fingers just out in the open then started serving again like he didn’t. I didn’t really expect this but everything else was spot on.

Food was lovely a bit over priced. I went with a large group..I sent my chicken back because it was slimy and raw ..only for staff to argue with me in front of family to say that was how it is supposed to be. I was not happy. So I won't be visiting again.

Absolutely loved our first visit. Located just off the A50. (Bonnie Prince Island). Ample parking. 🅿️ The vibe and ambience in this place is just pure perfection! Definitely gives you an American Diner vibe. The service is second to none, the portions are fantastic and the experience is 💯 % worth it. Thank you so much. Our server was Jeanette. We attended as a group for our works Christmas party. They very kindly accommodated our large group, which was a great start to this review! ;-) Everything from start to finish was fab, all staff were great but particularly our waitress, she did well to keep everyone together and get the orders right. Drinks came as and when required but the star of the show was obviously the food! Specifically my brisket, so soft and tasty, crispy fries and the extra bits of pickels and slaw were all really flavoursome. Every single thing we ate was absolutely delicious (especially the frickles!), the sides were huge and hot and crispy, seriously, I was so impressed with everything I ate and drank and all the people I met. The lemon meringue waffle was to die for and a perfect end to the occasion! The restaurant was absolutely rammed, we had a table of 16 and honestly, they smashed it! A great night out was had by all! :-)

The slow cooked brisket is awesome , friendly staff and a great place to eat

VERY friendly staff, delicious food, and fun "wild west" theme. Only complaint would be the radio being a bit too loud for my liking. Definitely coming back and bringing friends.

Disappointed and stupidly overpriced

Our second trip to Hickory's Derby was nearly cancelled today. This was due to my partner, who was still ill from the flu not feeling well enough to have a sit-down meal. We stopped by to let them know we couldn't dine in as planned and they offered to provide a takeaway meal for us. The BBQ brisket, cheddar/jalapeno sausage, pickled onions, fries and coleslaw are amazing, had a great little birthday 'donut cake' added as a treat for her birthday. We are sorry we couldn't eat-in, as the atmosphere is fun, especially at the chef's table where you can watch the action. We'll be back when she is feeling better and certainly appreciate the manager and staff going the extra mile for us today. Thank you for making my partner's otherwise dreary birthday a nice treat! x

Called in this Monday evening for family birthday. Excellent food and service, definitely a place to go if you like a full belly of tasty food, especially the selection of meats. 10/10 well done all.

What an absolutely amazing evening. When we visited, we were greeted in a friendly way, the manageress at the front of house was smiling and appeared to be really happy, she made us feel very welcome. The manageress remembered us from previous visits and we had a lovely chat. The manager was also stood at the front of house and was also very friendly and polite, he was also smiling and was very welcoming. We instantly felt relaxed and so happy to be there. The servers that we had were all extremely friendly and appeared to be very happy. You could tell that they really truly enjoy their jobs. The food was incredible. Very tasty and mouthwatering. I would recommend this Hickory’s. Thank you so much to all of the staff team for giving us a lovely evening in your establishment.

Well known brand now for smoked meet lovers. Nice place worth trying, never disappointing. I tried a few of them now. Check it out. Nice alternative to Sunday Roast on Sunday. Chilled vibes good drinks.

Nice welcome from the manager. Service fairly quick. Food very bland everything tastes of the sauce they use. My Wife's chips were cold and she took them to the chap behind the grill who then put his hand on them and agreed!!!! Probably need to retrain a few staff in Hygiene rules. Seated near the grill very noisy not pleasant. Will not visit again

Birthday Celebration. As a family of 10 we really enjoy hickories, sadly on this occasion, the service was very dissapointing , we didn't see the staff member looking after our table, for a large part of our time there, we asked another member of staff if.someone could take our drinks order, no one came, and so we went to the busy bar on two occasions to get drinks,the table was missing the special touches which included the popcorn, and we had to locate the condiments for our meals due to the lack.of available staff., they also got a meal wrong which meant 9 people were eating and 1 was waiting, and so on this occasion we did not pay the service charge. On a positive , we enjoyed the meal , just let down by the service and lack of staff sadly.

Recently visited with my wife and kids, it was the best experience and food I think iv ever had, was t the cheapest so be prepared, but you get what you pay for. The quality was amazing. 10/10

It’s a BBQ place that does some good quality smoked food. The brisket was pretty decent - I have had better but I’ve also had way worse. Ribs were good too - no dry meat to be found here. I had the platter for one so I could sample a range of meats. £30 seemed steep at first - but the quality was high. Our two boys didn’t order from the kids menu - our 13 year old just about managed but our 9 year old was beaten. It was a Saturday night and exceptionally busy so you will need to book ahead. Service stood out. After an initial let down that our table wasn’t ready, our waiter more than made up for it with his welcoming and informative service.

Good food, a little on the pricey side. My main erk is the fact the place is so very dark. Might be my old lady eyes but I struggled to read the newspaper style menu. Also not sure I agree with the tip automatically being added to the bill. Yes I know I could have asked for it to be removed but we were in a hurry to leave.

Overpriced and small portions for the price, left hungry and wanting more even though I spent of £20 on my meal, I had 7 chips in a cup ( I counted them) with my pulled pork, the childrens meal had more chips. service was not great as only saw the person twice during our 90 minute stay, once to order and then pay for the bill, didn't even get asked for more drinks or clearing our table for over 45 minutes from finishing our main.

Stopped in here for dinner with friends after a long journey, easy to find and plenty of parking. Loved the theme and decor. All the staff were friendly and our waitress gave good recommendations.

Have enjoyed many meals here with family and celebrated birthdays etc as they have always been good at catering for my wife who has gluten intolerance however our recent experience has unfortunately meant we won’t be able to return and I am writing this review for the attention of other coeliacs/gluten intolerant people. The gluten free menu has a burger that may contain gluten which seems bizarre as to why it would be included in the menu. My wife has had the burger previously and we never got told it could contain gluten. We were told that it’s the same burger that has always been served however when it arrived it was a smash style burger instead of normal and was different. The patty was dry and unfortunately my wife was ill not too long after. Such a shame as I really enjoy the food and the service is amazing just spoiled by being given wrong advice regarding the burger and through this poorly thought out menu change.

I ordered a root beer float, excited as I love root beer floats, but I ordered it without reading the description. To my disappointment it was root beer pop, which I love, with whipped cream on top and there was no cherry on top like the drawing. A root beer float actually is root beer pop with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. In America Dog n Suds diner used to do the best root beer floats. Next item. I ordered the fried chicken waffle and the waffle was like a tempura batter not like a waffle which should be like a cake. Yuk! My husband ordered a beef brisket which he enjoyed. So all was not lost.

Arrived at Derby branch (just off the A50)after a recommendation from a work colleague. Met at the table by Josh who took our order, (Baby back ribs and drinks).Josh returned to our table with drinks and a free sample of their popcorn, plus their 16 hour smoked slow cooked Brisket and sauce. Unbelievable taste and will be ordering this on future visits. Big shout out for Josh, excellent customer focus and very informative on the menu.

Tried this Hickory’s in Chellaston after visiting the Nuthall one a few times. First thing to point out is getting to it can be a big tricky as you need to take the exit that leads to the housing estate not the chellaston turn off. Once you take this you need to then go down to the mini roundabout and then turn back on yourself to access the pub car park. Plenty of parking out front and the entrance is at the far end of the front of the restaurant. We booked table for 5pm (quiet period) and got seated after a wait. Staff were friendly and efficient and took orders correctly. Food was good and overall a good experience.

When for a meal sunday 20-10-24I would of scored it higher had the waitress been polite and not scoul at us - she knew she had been caught out and then tried to tell others it was us that had the problem - well I know and she knows the truth - !@!@@@ not good

Having seen positive reviews our expectations of Hickory’s was very high, sadly we was left very disappointed and underwhelmed with our experience. We reserved our table for 6pm so naturally we expected to be seated when we arrived, this wasn’t the case. We was told our table wasn’t ready, people was at the table still and was told to get a drink at the bar and would be told it would be a couple of minutes- not a problem, however 35 minutes later and staff continually walking past us we enquired what the wait was for and then told our table was ready. All we got was “sorry for your wait” what a lovely introduction to Hickory’s this was. Next was our server who seemed agitated at the fact she had to take our order and be friendly or polite. She did seem to crack a smile when singing happy birthday to other people. We had to have our Cokes changed multiple times as the syrup or machine was making it taste horrible. After we asked for the second time the lovley waitress asked “what seems to be the problem!?” Insinuating we are at fault. we asked for 2 different drinks in the end as we didn’t have faith they’d rectify the issue. Only 1 of these turned up so again more time wasted flagging staff down to get the other drink. It was around an hour from entering the premises we had our starter. Once again the service was letting us down and was served our desert with no cutlery. More time wasted flagging staff down to get this for us. For some reason the lights kept on having power surges and would go bright then darken. Also the music was ridiculously loud and couldn’t have a normal conversation with people at the table. The quality of food was bang average, this coupled with the horrendous service and lack of organisation made our first trip to Hickory’s our last. A really forgettable experience.

Amazing food, great staff and lovely atmosphere

Amazing from start to finish!! Could I just go out my way to say a HUGE thankyou to Karina for being soo caring, polite, just simply can't praise her enough. We travelled 3 hours to stay over in Derby and I honestly haven't experienced anything like I have tonight. She deserves a pay rise!! The littlest things that made my night was that she went above and beyond for me and my other half, not only that she went out of her way to make me a little care package as I had told her I had been unwell for 4 days but we pushed it out tonight to have something nice to eat from Hickory's!! Without a doubt will be back. The food is worth every penny, not to forget the drinks.. Thankyou soo much!! 🤗

I cant believe how good the food was from here! We loved it being our first time & my husband’s birthday also. Staff are lovely. Food amazing. Got a bit busy by the time we left but still fantastic, we shall be back again. Thank you to everyone that sang happy birthday to my husband also.

Came here for a Dad's afternoon my brother's and our kids. Was perfect for that Recommend getting the sharing platters, something on there for everyone, and the burgers are pretty good too The kids loved the drink selection, had gape soda, cherryade and I treated myself to a root beer float ( come with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream ) Added benefit of a play area for the kids to run off that sugar....

What a fantastic find , I'm a big meat eater as well as the rest of my family. Both of my son's had been here and couldn't stop talking about the place but most of all the food. Good idea to book in advance to be sure . The staff was amazing, polite , friendly and very helpful. The meat just fell off the bone and make sure you are hungry 😋 Will definitely go back again, great drinks and cocktails plus beers.

This place is really slipping, prices remain the same but cutting down on portions and standards. We went for the breakfast menu, we’ve been before and my son ordered the stack of pancakes. This time there was only 2 pancakes. My eggs were overcooked and the streaky bacon was sloppy like it was cooked in the microwave. Coffee was lukewarm.

The last time I came up this way, was when the Bonnie Prince was still going and that was a long time ago. But wow, what a transformation! My friend and I decided to have a few drinks, before heading to Hickory's as our table was booked for 18:00. We visited on the Bank Holiday Monday (27.05.2024) and I was surprised it wasn't busier, however it was nice that the place wasn't packed. The American vibes from the outside were pretty awesome but inside... Wow! The American vibes are epic, with a superb atmosphere! Country music playing, American-themed pumps at the bar, along with American memorabilia too dotted around... Loved it! We were seated pretty quickly in a lovely area and were able to have a look at the menus. I took a bit longer to look over everything, as it was my first time visiting (my friend had visited previously, so was aware of what things they had etc). It didn't take long at all for the waitress Lauren, who was great, to welcome us and take our orders. We had water and a packet of popcorn brought to the table, which I thought was a fabulous touch (reminds me of when we visited numerous restaurants in the US, being offered bread etc before the meal arrived!) So we were able to enjoy that whilst our meals were being prepared. Although they were out of grape soda and a couple of other drinks, there was still plenty to choose from. I decided on the blueberry lemonade (very refreshing!) and my friend had a beer. After looking through the fab newspaper-style menu, where I was spoilt for choice, I decided on the 'Return of the (Hog) Mac', which came with a side salad and Hickory's delightful house slaw (probably the best slaw I've tried actually!) My friend wanted to try something different, so went for the 'Eight-Hour Smoked Beef Ribs', with a side of onion rings (the things were HUGE!) With taking in my surroundings, it didn't seem to take long for the food to arrive and when it came, I was impressed! The presentation of the food was stellar, with everything being nice and hot! Superbly cheesy, with plenty of sliced pork and jalapeno sausage and pulled pork. I can honestly say, it was quite the taste sensation! The onion rings my friend had were super crispy, and came with a creamy blue ranch dip. Lauren came to check in and see how everything was, which I think is always nice whenever eating out. After enjoying our meals, we were able to relax a bit before taking a look at the desert menu. There were a few things they didn't have, which I understand is sometimes the case with restaurants, so we decided on the 'Alabama Chocolate Fudge Cake'... Whoa! Rich and orgasmic, with a creaminess from the ice cream and crunch from the pieces of rocky road. The total came to £86.84 which is quite expensive, but honestly? It was well worth it in my opinion. There is also the 'The Tip Jar', which can be taken off if requested. But I like how that money goes to the team, rather than going elsewhere. And they deserve it, for how hard they work. After we had finished paying, we decided to sit at the bar for a while and have a drink, making our way to the outdoor area after a bit. Plenty of seating for those wanting to sit in the fresh air if the weather is nice, and they had the overhead heaters on a timer, if you were ever feeling a bit chilly. Overall, I thought the experience was fantastic and was really pleased with everything from start to finish. The food, the efficient and friendly service, the interior decor and music all made it a fantastic and unique visit. I'd certainly recommend anyone to give it a go here and I cannot wait to return again in the future... Thank you! 😊👍🏻

Decent but nothing to sing about. Food was average if a bit overpriced for the theme. Chicken and waffles was good but dry without slathering in maple syrup. My partner asked if she could have the chicken and pancakes but not with the 'hot sauce' chicken and the server honestly looked so confused by it. Eventually saying she could but not admitting it would be super dry without! Luckily I had enough syrup to share so that made it eatable. Atmosphere was noisy. I don't ever appreciate automatic service charges being added at restaurants. I'll tip if the service was exceptional, other than that, people are just doing their jobs and already getting paid well unlike in America where it's basically necessary. It's off putting and makes people feel awkward having to ask for the removal which places bank on. In current times it's already a treat to eat out, let alone squeezing more money out of people. Very off putting.

Pretty poor, really. Meat wasn't that tender with the exception of the short rib. Pork ribs were very bony. Service was hopeless, no checkback. Had to find someone to order food- no checkback. Asked 2 different members of staff for the bill. I was having a good catchup with my buddy and were told to leave the table after 2 hours. We weren't even given a courteous 'you can have a drink at the bar or elsewhere.' Won't be back, very chainy which you'd expect...from a chain!

Had a really fabulous meal out tonight - best anywhere in a very long time! Service was awesome from start to finish with a special shout-out to Gem. It was to mark my daughter's move to Newcastle Uni in a couple of days. This made it so special for her. Gem took time to ask about it and share experiences. She even organised a free cream doughnut with sparkler, which was totally unexpected!! Live music, great food, free popcorn, awesome attentive service - wish I could give 6 stars. Honesty cannot rate this enough! The food was incredible and the service was top notch, we were served by Jem and she was so lovely and helpful! We ordered far too much food but she was prepared with all the boxes for takeout and her service was spot on! Thanks for helping to make our evening!!

Six of us had a reasonable meal here. Staff were excellent but they served a perfectly cooked steak on a stone cold plate. This ruined the meal. Atmosphere was really good. With a few minor changes this could be 5 star.

I came to Hickory’s Chellaston with my family a few weeks ago and it seemed very nice until our server Neve came to greet us and she was rather rude, seemed disinterested and was flippant with my son when he told her he had a gluten allergy. When she brought us our food i double checked with her that my sons food was gluten free and she looked annoyed and said ‘yes’ in an agressive tone, as if it was an inconvenience to her.

Loved the Mac'n'Cheese with chicken tenders. Chicken was moist with a crisp coating and the Mac was really creamy. The USDA slab of ribs were tender and juicy, with just enough sauce slathered over. Accompaniments were good. Crisp fries, pickles and coleslaw gave a nice freshness and the giant onion rings were crunchy and sweet. Yet another excellent experience here.

Food was not great, over priced and we had ribs and steak. Ribs tasted and looked like they had been reheated out of a packet and steak was nearly cold, as served on s cold plate!

Great place, all of the staff seemed actually happy to be there and cheerful serving us! Food was amazing best brisket ive had in a long time just so tender and fell apart didnt even need to cut it with a knife! Everyone else enjoyed their food! We need one in Leicester! All of the food was great. The place itself is great all wooden and gives an american feel.

Me & my wife ate here today (we got married today & decided to go here for a bit of alone time in between all the chaos). The food was incredible, the meat was so succulent it just fell off the bones, & the sauces the meat was covered in were delicious. The staff were super friendly & polite. They were told it was our wedding day & they had put out some handmade roses with 2 drinks & some popcorn on a board with just married on it, which was a nice surprise & made it more special. I will definitely be eating here again. Everything was perfect, I can't recommend it enough. Thanks to the staff at Hickory Smokehouse.

Came here for my birthday meal, haven't been here before and really enjoyed it, nice atmosphere, friendly staff, love the vibe here. The food was gorgeous, I had a steak and it was cooked to perfection. Partner had the 8 hour ribs which was so tasty too. My only downside is that theres not many vegetables available with the meals or as sides on the menu but for an occasional treat I can overlook that.

Fantastic service by all the team. Friendly, professional and really liked that they offered reccomendations on drinks amd food. We had the sharing platter, big portions . Beef and pork ribs were fantastic, chicken wings underwhelming not much flavour, beef brisket was very fatty, pulled pork with beans were very nice. Loved the sides. All in all a good meal. Will be returning to try others items on the menu and re-order some ribs.

The best service we have ever recieved. The staff couldn’t do enough for us, our drinks were always full, establishment spotlessly clean, food was incredible. service was so attentive, our waiter tom was a credit to the team. he was friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed from start to finish. I cannot thank the team enough for looking after us so well from start to finish. would highly recommend to anybody wanting to visit. And a special thanks to Tom and the very kind lady who seated us, we didn’t manage to get her name unfortunately but she was yet again kind, witty and a credit to the team. Thank you everybody.

Great place, service and food Staff friendly and helpful, food delicious My only gripe was our grangaughters meal did not come out with the rest of our table, we had to ask for it. Although we had this small mishap, we will come back and will definately recommend the place.

Can definitely recommend the platter!

It's ok, the service was great. We had the brisket x2 and a burger with beef and chicken. Due to an allergy needed to swap the fries for Mac n Cheese, which wasn't a problem for the staff but then noticed was charged extra but wasn't made aware at time of ordering. The lettuce and tomato with the burger was just that.. one piece of each! At £21 for the burger and mac n cheese seems expensive. The brisket was tasty and tender, and the gravy was a great addition. The total bill inc 4 drinks and service charge was £111.00 and we were out of there just after an hr after arriving

Frozen custard was in fact purely ice cream and wasn't even frozen

Really feels like the bars in America. Seevice was excellent too. I'd been led to believe the portion sizes were huge, so was slightly underwhelmed, but without the pre-expectations I would've been fully satisfied with the size.

food was excellent service good ,would have been better had I been able to have a British beer but well done to all.will come again-⁰

The fried chicken was some of the best I have ever had! I would have given 5 stars for service as the attention to detail and time making proper cocktails was great...however not so great when you are stood there for ages waiting to place an order. I would go back again though and would also recommend it 👌

Third time I've had the pleasure of hickory's. Unbelievable food, great drink selection, wonderful staff. Absolutely great shout for any genuine food lovers, sport lovers, or anyone with an appreciation for US culture (with more achievable portion size). Thanks guys!

Food's ok to good, brisket was the best. Service is quite lackadaisical, don't Be in a hurry to eat. Be sure to tell them it's your birthday for your cake, like everyone else. Gets busy even on a Wednesday. It's not cheap, either.

First time visit for 3 adults and a 1 year old, visiting with high expectations given the many recommendations I’ve had. Service was immaculate (thank you Lauren) and I hope this is replicated for busier periods, given we attended on a Thursday lunchtime. Food was great, even if on the slightly pricier side. Menu is on the slightly larger side and left me spoilt for choice. Big fan of the frozen custard dessert! Can’t wait for our next visit!

Really enjoyed our visit, didn't have a booking but they managed to get us a seat at the Kitchen bar. The brisket was amazing and would recommend.

Food and desserts really good! Only bad part is, its Hard to get staff attention even though we were told we were gonna get looked after by 2 members off staff.

Went for my wedding anniversary it was amazing the atmosphere was brilliant. The staff are very friendly and the food is out of this world will definitely be coming back.
