Hickory's Smokehouse in Dudley

As a family restaurant, it probably serves the need very well but as a traditional American style smokehouse, it really isn’t great. Portions are small and not very tasty; it lacks the traditional American style. It’s also very noisy. Lots of children running around. It’s more a family restaurant for entertaining young children than a serious smokehouse Also not well coordinated and rather expensive for what it is Staff need to be smarter and better trained Mot a good experience. Won’t be going back

Lovely place, service was excellent. However, food is very pricey - we had brisket - not enough on the slab to feed a child, let alone two adults. Very disappointing, it was my birthday treat too. If you dont like spice, stay away, everything is a bit spicey, even the gravy. Doubt we shall be visiting again.

we went for a drink after a dog walk with our grandson. Firstly, cant understand why there isnt a dog area inside and more importantly...ordered a glass of shiraz, apparently no wine by the glass unless its Malbec from a pump. this is the first time I have had a glass of wine with a head on it, but more importantly it was disgusting. I did complain and was told no other wine by the glass was available, but in fairfness my drink was substituted at no charge. this is a let-down to Hickorys, they used to serve a decent glass of of wine. I only live just around the corner and frequently take family there, at this rate I cant see myself coming back.

Fantastic food, staff were excellent, great atmosphere. Have taken a likings to Thatcher's blood orange cider, which wasn't available, if this was my only criticism, which it isn't. 9.9999999999 etc out of 10! Great day!

Great food which is well worth the money. Fantastic service, especially from Zak. The movie room is great for kids. Free popcorn to keep you busy while you order and wait for meals. Free water supplied immediately as standard. The staff asked if we were celebrating a special occasion and after my wife said it was her birthday, we got a sign placed on the table and at the end a cake with candle brought to the table for her, free of charge! The frozen custard decorating station is cool for the kids too. Have been before and look forward to going again.

I've tried different Hickory's always good service and atmosphere, the food is always good, was my first time on this one, but my ribs wasn't as good as in other sites, I'll need to try again and see if was that day

As an American barbecue enthusiast, my first experience with Hickory’s was worth remembering. Their service was reminiscent of that southern hospitality feel, and the portions are worthy of sharing. Sauces must be made in-house, since I don’t think you’ll have an easy time finding them elsewhere. The highlight of the meal was definitely the kindness of the staff, who ensured the birthday girl had the best time (she got to make a cocktail of her choice behind the bar!).

The star of the show was our server Jensen. He made sure everything was perfect, was extremely friendly and accommodating. We had a great evening here… we loved the atmosphere, the food was good, and the drink is reasonable. We had young children in the party and they really enjoyed it.

Came in on Sun 9th march Bday special meal 2pm, Ended up having food poisoning, was really ill on the night & the following day. Sent an email to hickorys said someone would contact me within 72hours. Its been 2 weeks & no responce. We didnt eat straight away, but the Symtoms kicked in at 9pm Made me really poorly and in so much pain. They dont even contact you back after reporting this via email... Dont think i will be returning again. &&&& you already HAVEEEE my correct number NO missed ...calls NO Voicemails ... NO Witheld calls......

Visited here for a birthday celebration,a party of 15 service was 6 star food was brilliant venue looked a little tired ifi was being over critical.But wouldn't deter me from revisiting.looking forward to our next visit

Poor experience. Kitchen staff screaming for service, made an unpleasant visit sitting close to kitchen. Confusion over allergens, weren’t asked if we had any allergens and then there was back and forth delaying our food and dampening our overall experience. Food was substandard. Really disappointed.

Came on friday night and was looked after by Zizi and Cara/Kira? Both lovely and attentive, food is always incredible, and made good use of the 2 for £12 on cocktails 🤭 will be happily returning, thank you for lovely evening!

We celebrated a milestone birthday with our family today. We received a wonderful welcome and service from all the different wait staff who served us. Food was excellent and value for money. Would recommend 😊

Great restaurant, the food is top quality and wait times are relatively short. The staff are very welcoming and can’t do enough to make sure you have a pleasant meal. Highly recommend the Smokehouse Platter for 2 people, serious meat overload but tastes amazing.

Not impressed! I'm a Google reviewer and don't often leave a one star, however multiple things went wrong on our first visit to this restaurant. 1, we had never been to this place before and the menu wasn't explained very well at all. We were told about the tasters, there were 12 of us at our table, we said can we have one each? The waitress said I can't do that, I can give you three, now when someone says they are giving you three things, you don't expect to be charged. If we were to be charged, why couldn't we all have one. 2, I'm a vegan, no tasters were available for me, upon asking, we were told there is nothing for vegans, very confusing as I managed to cook vegan food for myself. 3, My vegan burger was sloppy and borderline warm, my fries were a very small portion in comparison to other restaurants I've been to in the same class. The sauce that is served (tomato like) was not flavoured at all. 4, My brother ordered a large dish with lots of meat on, the ribs were over done, hard and not edible, we sent them back and some new ones returned at the end of the meal, I understand it was busy, but complaints should be replaced with urgency, too late for the birthday celebration as the meal was over. This should have been deducted from the menu as we did say it's a little late when they arrived to enjoy. 5, My sister ordered a fish dish, it was dry and tasted like the fish was borderline out of date. Again, with the reputation of this chain, not good at all. 6, we were sat close to the front door, freezing was an understatement. People kept coming in and leaving the restaurant door open. There was no automatic closer on here or if there was it's not fit for purpose . If we got up once to close the door we got up 15 times. 7, When giving feedback to the waitress at the paying of the bill, we found the attitude to be argumentative, hostile and non caring. Couldn't wait to leave. 8, I've given a two star for the service as we did have a birthday cake and they did bring that over for us. Summary: We were not impressed at all.

Had a fantastic birthday meal with friends but unfortunately I find with every hickorys smokehouse once you have ordered and got your food you seem to be forgot about and you don't exist anymore which is very disappointing, I have found this to be the same at 3 different premises now and don't think we will bother again.

Super good food. Were sat by the kitchen which was very loud with a lot of shouting. Very good place to come for birthdays.

My favourite place to dine out. Social distancing rules were adhered to and the serving staff were pleasant as always. A service charge of 7.5% is automatically added to your bill, which I feel is fair enough, however you can ask for it to be removed if you don't think it has been earned. The food is great and the milkshakes are the best - just don't have one as a drink before your food arrives, have one as a dessert 😋. Update - visited again for Sunday lunch on 9th October 2022 as part of my Son's 21st birthday celebrations. Once again, everything was first class, the restaurant was very busy, but the food and service standard was as high as ever. Tom, our server was excellent and made our dining experience a memorable one - if he doesn't already, the guy should have his own fan club! 😀 Hickorys Wall Heath remains my favourite place to eat.

Finally decided to try here to see what all the hype was a out and couldnt have been more disappointed...Food is a joke for the price! Main meals are like a starter or a kids meal. Only 1 steak on the menu too. Poor service ordered 4 drinks and 3 were wrong, 3 different waitresses asking the same questions... Too many screaming kids for my liking! Needless to say we won't be going back there again.

Very nice food. Slightly overcrowded. Very polite and helpful staff as well as fast service. Menu is a wide selection as well as the drinks menu. Definitely coming back.

A proper American style diner, awesome quirks from the menu to the furniture. Meat that falls off the bone and regular service to our table to check to see how we're doing. Didn't put a foot wrong.

My partner and I turned up a little early, hoping to get a table earlier than I booked. This wasn't a problem, so we went and sat in the bar area until it was our allotted time. By this time £40 spent at the bar.. we noticed people casually walking in and getting seated. I approached staff at the door who seated us immediately, (Unapologetic). A server came to the table almost immediately. I hadn't even had a look at the menu as if we were rushed to make up our minds. The waitress returned just 2 minutes later... long story short we had the platter for 2. When this arrived the ribs were overcooked to a point of burnt not smoked, I could've broken a tooth! They were uneatable. (My dog enjoyed them though). The overall experience was poor. I felt like I was eating in a dimly lit shed. Sat in the corner with poor lighting. The quality of food was not on par, well seasoned fries and the cowboy beans was all that was satisfactory. However the couple of slices of brisket was mouthwateringly good. You don't get monetary value here especially for the platter.

4 Star for service as was slow, although it was busy but staff was polite and friendly. Plenty of parking also. Great food 😋

Food was absolutely gorgeous, service was amazing throughout, and pricing was fair. We'd booked ahead so, even though it was very busy, a table was ready for us as soon as we arrived. Service was noticeably quick, and everyone who served our table was very kind and polite.

Came here celebrating a birthday and Jenson looked after us all night, top lad. Really attentive. The food was delicious and that fro-co hazelnut is a must with some extra sauce on the side. Top tier

We came here for dinner on the 9th of January, and we had booked a table for 7pm, granted we were 7 minutes late as traffic was bad but we apologised, and the front of house was nice. Our table wasn’t quite ready so we were directed to the bar where we got two drinks, and the bar staff were lovely, making an effort to talk to every customer. It was 7:30 and there was still no table, so we moved over to some other chairs that were more comfortable, throughout the next half an hour I notice the lady who greeted us at the door looking at us repeatedly and at 8pm she comes up to us and asks if we were waiting for a table. I know it was busy and it’s not her fault if theres a bit of a backlog, but I was shocked that she openly admitted that she’d forgotten about us, she then directed us to a table that had been free for the past 15 minutes. She apologised but I feel like because my partner and I are a younger couple, she felt like it was okay to be sort of casual about it because we aren’t likely to make a fuss, but if we were a couple in our forties there’s no way she would’ve made us wait an hour for a table that we booked in advance, and offer no compensation, and despite this we still paid the added service charge. Our food did come out very quickly, whether that was because the kitchen was told we’d waited a whole hour or not I don’t know. The food was very nice, I had the full rack of ribs with the house bbq sauce, and my partner had the beef rib, my fries were lukewarm but I was eating it with the coleslaw so I didn’t mind. For dessert we shared the Cookie Monster milkshake, and it looked and tasted amazing. Our server was attentive, but it did take a while for us to be able to grab someone to get the bill although the restaurant wasn’t busy by the time we left. I’d come again because we’ve visited before and not had to wait that long, but it was a bit of a dampener on the evening.

Food was very nice for what you got, which was not a lot, how they can charge £20.99 for 3 slices of Brisket ( allegedly 1/2 a Pound? 8oz. and half of it was fat.) with a small portion of pickles and Slaw, and a mug full of chips, i cannot fathom. Nice food, VERY VERY EXPENSIVE. Not returning anytime soon.

1st time of going and my experience was wonderful. All the staff were so welcoming and helpful with my choice will definitely be going back and recommend others.

Staff are absolutely fantastic when accommodating allergies mine aren't on the 14 major allergen lists so they went to extra effort checking everything for me. Also made sure I had an accessible area as I use a walking frame staff are friendly food is delicious only thing is it can be noisy at busy times but they got me a table in a quieter area as I'm autistic which is nice.

Me and my partner came today, sat on Tbl4 and had a lovely meal. We had the beef rib, bird & beast burger, giant garlic pretzel and a brisket mac. Everything was beautiful as always. We were served by Tomas and were also looked after by another girl too, I didn't catch her name but she had long beautiful braids. Both of them were so friendly and helpful we can never fault the staff here. We always seem to leave smiling too so this is just an appreciation to both hickory's and the staff today😊

Can't fault the food, the service or the atmosphere. If you like meat, lots of meat, and the taste of the deep south (usa), then this is the place to go. One drawback, the wine is cr@p!

Just wanted to say a massive thank you to the staff for making our 43 rd Anniversary one to remember. You made everything perfect and went above and beyond to make it extra special with a glass to celebrate and lovely board with message and cakes. The food absolutely delicious, the chicken was melt in your mouth and the ribs to die for and the burger was so tasty. A special mention to Tom loveliest person and server we’ve had, thank you for everything.

Came here for partners new job celebration, with the kids, as we’d tried the one in Worcester last summer. This had such a good atmosphere, food was delicious, the portions are so big it had as almost unbuttoning the top button on our jeans ( if you know, you know) our server Tom was an absolute delight, such an amazing bubbly person, whom made the experience even better! Good company, good food and an awesome night! Thank you again guys shall be back in due course x

Ten of us aged from 5 to 79 dined this evening. Excellent service from start to finish, with attentive staff and lovely well presented food. Everywhere felt clean and comfortable, there was a lovely atmosphere and it helped to make my niece’s birthday such a lovely time together as a family. Thank you.

I have been to Hickory's a number of times now and really enjoy the atmosphere and the welcoming hospitality of this restaurant. The staff really couldn't do more to help. On my last visit, I was greeted on entry and sat at the bar. The server, Joe, was fantastic and upsold me a Life's a Peach sweet tea which was delicious and beautifully made! I then was taken to my prebooked table for food, where my server, Zack, welcomed us with such a genuine warmth that we felt completely at ease. He asked if we were celebrating anything or just enjoying a meal out. He talked us through the menu, recommended dishes and ensured we had everything we needed. The food was superb as always, and the service was smooth, quick and with a heartwarming smile. Highly recommend this fantastic restaurant and will definitely be back again soon.

Absolutely blown away by the customer care and service at Hickory’s tonight. Busy Saturday night and the place was packed, small error with my son’s meal and was given a hugely generous gesture of goodwill. Hugely appreciated and not necessary as the service was already top notch but certainly means we will be back and spread the word that Hickory’s, unlike so many others, really understand that excellent customer care is what really counts. Thank you.

When early afternoon about 330 with family buying cocktails spent £75 about to buy another round and somebody came up to us and said these tables are reserved. You’ve got 15 minutes I replied we have spent upwards of £100 here which is probably the same as food. There are no signs up to say the tables must be vacated at a certain time we were in the bar area she said you have to sit at the bar if you want to stay, the barstools were all taken 5 of them only and I would’ve expected for your customers a bigger time frame window of say 30 minutes to announce that people need to go and also it would be useful to have it written somewhere in the vicinity not to be told 15 minutes before Unnecessary and rude

First time at Hickory’s and will definitely not be the last! What an awesome restaurant, the atmosphere as soon as you walk in is lovely! The decor and the music make it feel so real. Big thank you to Harley, amazing service with such a lovely smile!

We did book a table for my 7 years old birthday, I was a bit disappointed with the table as it was near the doors at the back and we were cold, but as soon as the waiter took care of us he made the experience a lot better, he really made sure my daughter enjoyed her evening and gave her a doughnut birthday cake, super professional and friendly, food was great as always, thank you Tomas ☺️

I don't usually leave reviews but for this place I will. First of all a big THANK YOU to Mariah. My young son is autistic and struggles with food, we brought him to Hickory's as they serve baked beans which my son loves. However they do not do toast which is understandable. However my young son was having a very off day and became physically upset. Mariah was an absolute angel! She calmly explained she too has autisum so understands the struggle our son goes through. She took our order and went about her business. My partner took our son out to calm him down only for Mariah to come back and tell me she has had a word with the kitchen and have arranged for my son to have toast with his beans. I must state this was purely off their own backs, they truly went above and beyond! My son's face lit up when he saw the toast. I didn't manage to say thank you to Mariah as her shift ended before I could say to her. THANK YOU Mariah, you really made my littel boy happy! As per the place, food is always perfect, staff are friendly and for the whole experinece, it is very wallet friendly.

Arrived today with my Girlfriend for a date night, The Customer Service was Honestly AMAZING! It’s hard to get good customer service anymore but the Waiters, Seating Staff, and Servers were outstanding with their Respect , Service, and Caring personality’s! Tilly was so lovely and served us for the time we were there , She was so kind , and Respectful:) They all seem to love their jobs every one of them which is so nice to see. The food arrived at our table in under 6 minutes after ordering , same with dessert! Service is so Fast :) Chefs know how to cook ! The Food is beyond Amazing! Honestly this beats any restaurant I’ve been too ! the Atmosphere was incredible , detail in every section of the place , they really do go all out :) even a cinema room :) Couldn’t thank the Staff enough :) I’m looking forward to coming again!!!

Best Restraunt and food I have ever been to!!! The service was so friendly, food came out quickly, atmosphere was unreal and even had a movie room! And the best food u have ever tasted!
