Excellent experience. The food was fantastic. Two big eaters and we had the meat platter for two with onion rings like doughnuts 🤣. Absolutely stuffed at the end and thoroughly enjoyed it. Can’t wait for the Sheffield branch to open as it’s a lot closer.

Honestly can’t praise this place enough, the service was incredible and the food was unbelievable. Unfortunately I’m unsure if the names of my two waiters (I know one supports Man U and the other Wigan, as a Sunderland supporter we all bonded over this season’s failures 😂) but they were incredible to us, always checking on us and always making us laugh. The brisket is definitely the food to get it was so tender and packed with flavour (keep the fat on the brisket it makes it so much better) there was a slight hiccup with the food but the two waiters I mentioned went far passed above and beyond to make it right. Apologised profusely and like I said did everything they could to make sure they could fix the issue. I hope management can give something to those two as they clearly care about the business and customer care and were just genuine lovely people, even though we live in Sunderland the service and the brisket means we will definitely return. The whole atmosphere was amazing, it does have indoor and outdoor seating so if it’s a nice day i definitely recommend coming here :)) Also the s'more's dessert is a recommendation ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Myself and my partner went to hickorys Castle bromwhich for a meal and drinks,we got a table outside and ordered our meal and drinks. Drinks came straight way but our meals took over an hour to arrive! When noticing that tables around us were getting there meals before us when they ordered after us so i asked the waitresses bout ours. she went away and came back and told us there was a problem with the kitchen so we ordered more drinks and they came straight away again but still no meals!! So i decided to ask another waitresses who went to check again. Still sitting with no food and tables around us was still getting there's i decided to go in the restaurant to see what was going and has i walked up to the till i heard the one waitresses say go to the black lady at the table outside and ask and the other waitresses said what black has i walked pass which i was shocked at what i heard, got to the till to see what was happening and they said they dont know whats happened to our meals but should be with us in five minutes!!waited 5mins still no meals so my partner went back up to speak to the supervisor on shift and told him what has happened and what i heard the waitresses saying so he went to find out what was going on. Five minutes later he came out with our meals and apologies and that he will come over after we finished our meals and speak to us bout the comment i heard. He never did there was no check back or nothing felt like they were avoiding our table which made me feel like i did something sat there for another half hour after our meal and still no manger or supervisor came back to our table which i thought was really rude so we decided to leave!! Worst experience i have ever been through happy to take our money but not to listen to my complaints. I will never go back there again all the staff needs retraining on how to act when on shift cause this is not acceptable in this day an age!!

Would give this place more than 5 if I could. The food is nothing like anywhere else in Birmingham. Proper American style to the taste ,Onion rings are amazing, and brisket was so soft and tender, even the sauces and dips that come with the dishes are perfect for the combined flavours.It can get busy in there but I see why ,people going there for the great food .Service was good for how busy they were.

Lovely food, think we went at particularly busy time?

This is by far one of the best restaurant experiences I have had in a very long time. Everything was great. The food was perfect and everything was so flavourful and brilliant, nothing was out of place or tasted bad. The service too was great, the staff were really accommodating. It is a bit pricey but worth it.

First time visiting Hickory’s. I had the chicken fajitas. 5 hours after eating I suffered from food poisoning, was so bad, I ended up collapsing and went to a&e. Will never return to this restaurant again!

Customer service provided by the staff was quite disappointing to say the least. I came to celebrate my daughter's 16th Birthday with my family and specifically put this occasion in the description on the website when booking a table. Upon entrance, nobody even asked us if we were here for a special occasion which was quite unusual compared to other Hickory's restaurants, which immediately ask and provide with a nice sign for specified occasion. We did not recieve any of this service and the iconic sign and happy birthday celebration which Hickory's is known for and we chose this restaurant for was not given to us. It was really disappointing to see others around celebrating and being given this while we were rushed to our seats and shown no interest, leaving myself and my daughter very disappointed. Solihull's staff service is much more friendly and much more engaged with their customers in comparison to here, making it a much better atmosphere and my choice of place for the future.

Came here on a busy saturday and although our meal had to be taken back to the kitchen I really couldn't fault the service we received. Big shout out to Finn who looked after us, nothing was too much trouble for him. Absolute credit to Hickorys. Food was really nice, drinks were great.

Awesome experience! Tasty food! Great for big groups! Free pop corn starting snack! Great drinks selection. Felt service was a little lacking at this location..... We arrived at 1.30 and left at 5!! We were a group of 12, but felt we had to ask every time we were ready to order and pay the bill. Other than that I'd say this is a lovely place for the occasional big get-together. Would like to try the weekday menu as it seems to differ a little.

Some of the worst service I have ever experienced. For the amount of staff they had on the floor the service we received was appalling, we had to keep stopping staff who would have otherwise walked past out table (avoiding eye contact) to get their attention. Table booked for 13:30 and our order wasn't taken untill 14:10, starters took 45 minutes to come out with 1 persons missing. Mains took another 30 minutes after starter plates were cleared and desserts took another 20 minutes after mains were cleared. Food was average at best, I ordered the maple ribs, they were tough and dry, the meat didn't fall off the bone and was not juicy or tender, the only positive was the visible smoke ring. Ignoring the service for the cost I would not recommend.

Had a great meal here Thursday afternoon staff as always were friendly and attentive and our server Dan was brilliant. Food was delicious and the grounds are so nice it’s good to enjoy a glass of wine outside in the much needed sunshine after our meal . This is our local restaurant and have had many family celebrations here and we are never disappointed.

We visited Hickory’s to celebrate my mum’s birthday and had the pleasure of being served by Nick, who was absolutely phenomenal. He was friendly, engaging, and went out of his way to make our experience special. At the end of our meal, he even hosted a cocktail-making class for my mum, which truly made her day. Nick went above and beyond, ensuring not just my mum but all of us had a fantastic time. Exceptional service—thank you, Nick!

Great service and food for 13th birthday meal

Overall a underwhelming experience, booked for a birthday meal was a Friday night so quite busy. The table was OK and decorated nicely however there was a hole in the floor that the chair leg fell through, a member of staff came over and apologised, a part of the flooring had moved and needed to be pushed back, the place in itself is showing its age if with signs of wear and damage all over. The table we had was by the cinema room but when the live music started the volume from the in built speakers was excessive to the point where it was difficult to hold a conversation. The cinema room itself was filthy. The service was OK but slow and had to ask twice for things that had not been brought out even when ordered with the other items, a drink and child dessert, the cola had to go back as it was flat. The food was OK on par with other bbq restaurants but nothing really special, the birthday donut was a nice touch but this was forgotten and was only brought out about 15 min after the desserts and only when someone reminded a member of staff, over all

It's nice to see an attempt at getting a southern USA style BBQ in the UK, I'm actually quite sad there aren't any of these down in the south east, as I'd definitely want to visit more. Food: I had frickles to start, these are pickle spears, battered and deep fried, with a nice dip too. Portion size is good, could do with a little more sauce, I was really scraping the bottom of the pot on my last frickle. Tasted good, might've been nice to have a little something going through the batter itself but the actual pickle was sharp, tangy, salty and a little sweet - exactly what I'd expect from an American pickle spear, compared to the more mustardy, spiced and much more sweet sliced gherkins that are more prevalent in the UK. For main I had the brisket Sub. It comes with fries, slaw and pickled onion and jalapenos. Oh and a side of gravy. This was the reason I wanted to try Hickory's. If I hadn't been squeezing into company expenses budget (more on that later) id definitely have tried to get more of a platter style with lots of different meats. But this seemed like a great option for me. First and foremost, this thing is hard to eat cleanly. The bun is soft, perhaps a little too soft, and the amount of sauce in there makes it a delicious sog-fest to get through. I cut mine in half and took my server's warning to heed that it would likely leak as I picked it up - shocking no one, it did just that. Flavour wise, I enjoyed the sub, and dipping it in the gravy gave it an extra boost of salty umami-ness which was thoroughly enjoyable. However, you might notice I said the amount of sauce made it soggy and not the amount of meat juice and unfortunately that's because the brisket was dry. Not unbearably so, as it was mitigated heavily by it's saucey accoutrements, but the brisket itself was definitely not oozing that characteristic juice that I'd expected from watching many BBQ reviews from US foodtubers. I think if I'd ordered that by itself I'd have been a bit more upset. Aside from that the only other detractor was that the slaw, while crisp and creamy, was a miniscule portion. I'd have loved another couple of spoonfuls of that. The Skin on fries were fine, and seasoned well enough. The pickled red onions and jalapenos were lovely, and had the brisket been a bit fattier and juicier, would've cut through it perfectly. I saved some for my last mouthful because it felt like the perfect zingy cleanse for my mouth after salty chips soaked in all the sauce and gravy leftover. Service: I was a walk-in table of 1 on a Wednesday evening, around 18:30. There were no regular tables available, but I got the choice of bar stools, not in the bar proper, but in front of the kitchen. I chose one directly on the divider between the kitchen and restaurant, great view of everything going on in there. I can't fault any of the servers I interacted with, aside from one minor thing that I had asked for the frickles to come out at the same time as my main, which didn't happen, but honestly that was fine, given how big a portion of frickles you get. Atmosphere: It really feels like the UK expectations of what a BBQ pit in the deep south would be like. Lots of wood, evoking the sort of 'wild west'/cowboy motif. Nice low warm lighting and comfortable chair style bar stool. On the other hand, it was LOUD, but it is touted as a family location, and there were 3 different renditions of Happy birthday in the hour and a bit I was there. Price: So I paid just shy of £29.00 for this meal, that being frickles and the sub (comes with fries, gravy, slaw and pickled veg as standard) and a raspberry lemonade. There is an automatically applied 7.5% on the bill for service, being that I was on the company card, I asked for it removed as it put me over my £30 limit for the night (don't worry I left exactly 10% tip in change instead). Frickles were good value, sub should've had more volume of sides or been a bit less than £17.50. The drink was pricey, but nice. Free sweet and salty popcorn when seated is nice too! Rating: 8/10, enjoyable especially for a chain.

We came here on 11/03/2025 just before 7pm. All the staff were friendly and helpful. We found the food reasonably priced. I have to say that our waiter was brilliant. He was polite and went above and beyond. The restaurant could not be faulted in anyway and I think that has to do with the staff. We were warmly treated in every aspect of this restaurant from the first point of contact at the door, the staff at the bar, the waiter and when we were leaving a lady said goodbye to us. The food was lovely, there was just so many nice little touches that you don’t see in other restaurants like the popcorn on the table, the feminine products in the ladies room. This place thinks of things that other restaurants don’t. We had a great experience and thank you to the staff for their hospitality.

Great food but a wee bit pricey

I went here for my birthday on Saturday and we all had such a great time. The food was amazing and the service was also really good! Our waitress was really friendly and helpful. We will definitely be returning :) Thank you for making my birthday even better!

Had a great family birthday brunch and food was lovely. Unfortunately the service was sporadic and then when trying to pay took forever and then mid paying the server decided to see to the door and told us to wait and then went to take other guests was not very professional.

The food was amazing, both brisket and fajitas are pretty much a must. Our servers name was Poppy and she was one of the best staff members we have encountered in public. She was very enthusiastic and friendly, and recommended food when we were unsure. An absolute credit to the company and a great example of hospitality.

All the soft drinks were great Blueberry lemonade Raspberry lemonade Root beer float Grape soda are all recommended. The share platter was as always out of this world. Food cooked to perfection. The brisket is a family favourite. The lemon meringue which is waffle based was absolutely delicious!!!!

Amazing food! Had the corn chips which came out cold, but asked the lady that was in charge of our table and was changed straight away and had it come off my bill, can't remember her name unfortunately as her customer service was brilliant considering there was 9 of us... had a try of the bacon bites and it tasted amazing, I had the beef brisket which tasted sensational... along with the cheese burger tots... and the famous grape soda for drinks.. free popcorn and water when we asked, service was so quick... would recommend to come again, plenty of parking and good access... the bar area with sports on the tv had a good friendly vibe to it...

Server was Luke R, top guy! Attentive without being in any way OTT. Sat on the high seats watching the kitchen and it was great to watch it all unfold without having to jump in and help! Kitchen team are incredible and smashed out a very tough shift for NYE. All the front of house we saw were on their game too. I was staying in the area for a few nights, and the hotel food wasn't very good. Found this place 15 min walk / 3 min drive from where I was staying. Had my tea there every night. Good choice, good atmosphere, friendly staff.

Right so we went for a birthday party, the food was banging as can be expected from hickorys, it was busy but not ridiculously overcrowded so this shouldn’t bias opinion, there was a lack of service, the lady was nice enough but seemed she had a lot of tables to do so didn’t really get a look on for anything, by the time food came it was around half hour wait, we waited 15 + minutes to be seated even though we had a reservation, drinks were quick enough but everything else just took an age, food too forever although there was a large party of us (around 10) so i will base this on that, but even still when the food came out it was lukewarm at best, in the end we had the cake brought out and left, didn’t even eat it there as even this just took too long and no-one was interested at that point, gutted tbh we went to Kingswinford site for my birthday and the service was so much better, i thought it might have just been us but a table of three by the cinema area also complained about how shocking the service was for her, i hope this isn’t a trend for here, our bill came to around £330 with a £24 tip which we removed as we just felt it wasn’t deserved, we wont come back to this site again and will go to the kingswinford site as the service was just so much better

Had a lovely meal here to celebrate a birthday. They helped us celebrate, which was so lovely of them. The service was excellent, and so was the food. Would highly recommend coming here for a nice meal out. They have a good range of special drinks.

What an amazing place. Fantastic atmosphere. Very friendly staff and probably the best food I've had in a very long time. And they even celebrated my birthday with a cake and sparkler. I hugely reccomend this establishment to anyone. Definitely worth every penny ( and calorie 😉) 10/10

I met a couple of friends at Hickory’s recently on a dark damp Tuesday night in November. I’d never been before and was pleasantly surprised. On face value I was expecting a Harvester type of experience complete with sticky menus and dirty tables but it was nothing like that. The food was good and the staff were attentive and polite I think I had a Salmon dish and it was very good. Definitive well worth a visit.

Headline would be the food is amazing, but the atmosphere itself and service was just lacking compared to other Hickory's. We were directed to the bar upon entering however the bar was just full of extremely rowdy, there was betting going on around some of the tables and the staff and security ust didn't say anything. Finally we were escorted to the table which was finally out the way of the noise though. After that we were asked frequently for drinks but when it came to wanting to order food, the service was so slow, I turned around a couple of times to see 4 staff members just stood chatting at the entrance. We got starters which were absolutely delicious. I had brisket tacos and my partner had the garlic pretzel bites, both of which were amazing! The new cheese dip with the pretzel was a great addition now. We then waited a considerable amount of time before the waiter came over and asked us what we were waiting for still, and we said mains, and then they came out. I had a full rack of ribs and onion rings and my partner had Mac and cheese being a vegetarian. Both an amazing as usual and I'd highly recommend these when coming here. My suggestion would be though, not during the football or in the bar.

A couple of my family members and i popped to hickory's in the afternoon and was seated by a lovely gentleman named Ryan, it was our first time visiting so we took our time picking and ordering our food and our server Nicky was very patient which was appreciated as it shows an understanding of the customers need for time when trying somewhere new, Ryan learning that this was our first time offered us a try of the brisket as the flavour profile was what this place is all about and we would be able to determine if this is the place for us going forward. Upon trying the brisket we knew this was the place for us, it was juicy, succulent and full of flavour. Ryan asked me how it was and on learning that i loved the flavour preceded to tell me all about how they have achieved this, he talked about the rub used and the links to the deep south of America specifically Texas which is the inspiration for the food, I bounced a few questions his way and he answered them all, he even mentioned that the barbecue/smoker that cooked the food is integrated into the building and that it costs 40,000 pounds each to get one of those for everyone of the hickory's chain and the building is essentially built around them. I ordered the single platter which costs £33 and is worth every penny, it is a full platter and few will finish it in one go, the flavour is out of this world! from the ribs to the sausage, brisket and all the way through to the spicy slaw i was left blown away by the taste, then to cap of a great afternoon lunch Ryan decided he wanted to make a good impression which is a very smart move with new customers and he offered me a gift, he gave me a hickory's rub and sauce set, 5 items in total 2 rubs and 3 sauces (one of which is called homicide sauce and is a hot sauce which i have to admit is intimidating) on the house because as he put it, "you were great customers with good questions and we really enjoyed having you here with us". Ryan and Nicky were great ambassadors for the hickory's chain and a wonderful reflection on the business overall. Thankyou hickory's for a lovely afternoon lunch and i will be sure to visit again soon.

I and a group of basketball players who met at the 2012 Olympics have a yearly reunion and this year we decided to hit Birmingham. There's a great atmosphere and friendly staff and we were so surprised they created a piece that was worth posting here. Thank you Hickory Smokehouse Birmingham! You're amazing

Lovely food, staff very friendly

Georgia-rose served us today and the service was outstanding. She was friendly and went and above and beyond in terms of service and making us feel welcome and comfortable for our meal. We came out for a meal to celebrate my friend getting a new job. On top of the fact she was attentive she surprisingly and unprompted brought out a doughnut and sparkler for my friend which was really thoughtful. She is genuinely a credit to your team and should hear this.

Overall the quality of BBQ was good for being in England. Compared to authentic BBQ you would get in the states this is very lacking. Meat was dryer than what good BBQ would be and there isn’t the effects of slow smoke on the meat. Little smoke ring on the ribs and all the meats had hardly any smoke flavour. The cornbread is more like an unsweet toffee pudding. Frickles and Onion rings were good but their breading leans to the heavy size. Despite all of this the milkshake was phenomenal and the atmosphere is nice. For “British BBQ” this deserves a 4/5

Great place to go and food.is amazing

Best smoke house dining experience. We were walkins and managed to get a table straight away. We asked to be moved after ten mins because it was cold near the door and the waiter moved us without any hesitation. The food came out promptly and of a fantastic standard. The food is on the pricier side however I dont mind paying when i get what I pay for. The staff attended to us enough to feel like they cared about our experience. You've definitely got regular custom from us now.

Really cool place, the food is really tasty and the portions are huge. The menu is a really cool newspaper, there are a lot of vegetarian and vegan dishes...Western style. Definitely a recommendation.

What can I say? The food here was absolutely superb, and I would highly recommend it. There is plenty to go at on the menu to suit all tastes and I ended up having the The Smokehouse Platter which included BBQ ribs, Memphis-style ribs, sausage, chicken wings, short rib, fries and slaw and this I recommend so you get a broad taste across the meats. The staff were very friendly and we were only waiting less than 20 minutes for the food to arrive at the table. No complaints whatsoever! ☆☆☆☆☆

We’ve booked here for a Friday night as we’ve been craving some good smokehouse food. Let me tell you this - there is not 1 bad thing I could say about this place. We’ve turned up just before 7pm after booking a table (which is a must as it was packed!). Got seated straight away, staff all super friendly and polite. THE VIBES HERE ARE ELITE. The decor really does make you feel like you’re in US. Menus were beautifully designed. We’ve also been blessed with live music. What else would you want? We’ve ordered the big platter for two which sets you off £60/2 people (so £30 each) which we’ve thought was more than reasonable as you’d probably spend about the same on individual meals. There wasn’t 1 thing we didn’t love on the platter. The meats were full of flavour and all tasted different. Cornbread was a 10/10. We’ve also tried their home-made rootbeer float and grape soda which was definitely a solid kick of sugar but amazing nonetheless and a great complement to the savoury meats. We can’t wait to go back.
