Having not visited for 15 or more years, we decided a visit was long overdue and it fitted in perfectly with our plans for the day. In fact it was a perfect ending to a great day out. We were greeted by the owner and staff in a friendly way and had the choice of tables. A cosy table adjacent the disused ornate waterwheel and associated mechanism was tucked away in the corner and was great for conversation. The staff were very attentive and the quality of the food was excellent. Portion sizes were great. A good choice of menu options. Had such a lovely meal, we booked again for three weeks time!

Our Anniversary fell on our week in Cornwall and I wanted a lovely restaurant to celebrate. I found Heskyn Mill on line a short distance from where we were staying, what a beautiful restaurant. It is really wonderful, with the original Mill equipment as a backdrop to the restaurant it has lots of charm and atmosphere. The menu offers a very nice selection of local produce that is cooked and served perfectly along with a very good selection of wines. So glad we booked this restaurant and we highly recommend it. Thank you John for making our evening very enjoyable. See you next year 🙂🙂.

The best Sunday lunch we have ever had. An excellent choice of main courses as well as the roast. Everyone's choices were excellent although the scallops I had with seaweed garnish were sublime. The roast pork with stuffing and perfect crackling was delicious as were the accompanying very fresh vegetables. As for the puddings there was a large choice including traditional dishes such ss bread and butter pudding and fruit crumble. It is quite a distance from where we live on the Roseland we will be looking for an excuse to return. Sandi and Mike Mayes and their two friends from East Devon

Restaurant was recommended by our Air BNB host, food was unbelievable and the restaurant itself is a fantastic venue. I believe the owners name was John (apologies if I’m wrong) but he came out and spoke to us which was a nice touch seeing him speaking to all the customers. I had the Pork for main and my partner had the Venison both were really good. Had the blackberry and apple crumble for dessert and although custard wasn’t on the menu they managed to find some for me! (Best crumble Iv ever had!) Overall couldn’t fault a thing. Maybe a little background music as it can be deadly silent at times due to everyone busy enjoying the food! Also the 1 draught lager (Offshore) they have is really good!

Lovely restaurant and staff. The food was fantastic. We really enjoyed every course. Our daughter has allergies yet the restaurant had options for her and ensured she had a nice meal. I love that they don’t have a kids menu which means children eat the same food as adults and don’t end up with fried beige food. Orders were promptly taken and delivered - food was fresh and hot and generally very very good - but .... two of our party of four had roast beef and both found it gristly which spoilt our overall impression. Deserts were very nice. TBH it felt just a little sunday lunch in a gastropub. Not what we were expecting.

We ate here whilst staying at a hotel a few miles away and we weren't disappointed. The menu was fantastic if you're a meat eater - only one vegetarian/vegan option available. But we had the pate and the pigeon to start, pork and hogs pudding and the venison casserole as mains and the Eton mess and chocolate brownie for dessert. Highly recommend them all. The wine list is great, not too many options but something for all tastes. The owner was happy to tell us about the history of the mill and a quiet night meant we were able to look around at all of the workings, much to my husbands delight. Cosy, comfortable and well worth the money.

We arrived for 12.30pm for Christmas Day Lunch to find absolutely no Christmas atmosphere or ambience, just complete silence. The meal was quite meagre and felt a bit like service on a conveyor belt. The starters were disappointing and the main course consisted of a plate brought to each of us with a reasonable amount of sliced turkey, a stuffing ball, a very small pig in blanket, two very small pieces of roast parsnip and two hasselback potatoes , all already placed on a meagre amount of gravy. The side vegetables were served separately and were almost raw and there was no extra gravy. I asked for bread sauce and was told there wasn't any, so had to make do with some cranberry sauce in a jar. The desserts were also small and the Christmas pudding was served with custard - no choice of brandy sauce or cream. There was a cracker at each place setting when we arrived and a Christmas card but no sign of a complimentary glass of sherry or coffee and a mint afterwards. We paid £70 pounds each, which would have been fine had it been enjoyable and good value for money. It was neither and , needless to say, we shall no be returning for any meal, least of all Christmas dinner . K.Li Liskeard cornwall

The food here is always excellent, we usually visit midweek but decided, this time, to go for Sunday lunch. Chef Ann excelled herself with a tasty Mackerel pate and succulent Garlic Mushrooms on Sour Dough toast for starters. My husband's roast beef was tender and beautifully pink. Ann's Hasselback potatoes knock out normal roasties which are so often a disappointment in a Sunday lunch. A wild sea Bass steak was a revelation. Chunky, firm and delicious, it was a world away from a farmed fish. Paired with crispy seaweed which packed a unami punch into every mouthful and sweet buttery new potatoes it was a treat of a meal. Not forgetting the lovely veg served on individual plates, We finished with Raspberry Eton Mess (picked by host John from their garden) which was a delight and a perfect Lemon Posset with homemade shortbread. John and Ann have taken this beautiful building and matched it with some of the best food to be found anywhere. Fine wines complete the experience and John is an attentive and knowlegeble host. The restaurant is situated within the walls of this old Mill alongside machinery from a bygone age. It maintains all the charm and atmosphere you would expect with a welcoming and friendly staff who come with a substantial knowledge of the Mill's history Our meal was beautifully cooked and presentation was excellent. The only criticism to be made was that service was a bit slow but that was probably because patrons were asking questions about the Mill and, therefore, delaying the orders to the chef. Four of us went for a meal at Heskyn Mill last Saturday night, it was a fantastic night out. The food was first class and, for me, there was the bonus of Sharps Offshore Pilsner on tap. The owner and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the place is almost a museum with all the workings of the old mill still in place, on both floors of the restaurant. I ordered the pork loin with hogs pudding, it was incredible, and had the bread and butter pudding to follow to fill the tiny gap left in my stomach. All four of us sent clean plates back to the kitchen, a very satisfactory night out. Why I called this review ‘Hidden gem’ was that I have driven up and down the A38 loads of times and didn’t know the place was there, so do yourselves a favour, and check it out, it’s just off the first St Germans turn past Tideford, heading into Cornwall.

Having driven past this place many times we decided to call in for dinner. We arrived at around 1830 and shown to a table, we were the first of the evening. Looking at the prices I thought they slightly more than other restaurants but we went with it. I ordered the Scallops, £9 for three !!! Cooked in butter and served with seaweed I thought them to be small, not very tasteful and presented ok at best. Main course, Pork fillet with Hogs pudding. It would make a change I thought. It wasn’t too bad, I got about 4/5 pieces, presentation was a bit random. I felt the whole meal was a bit old school with the paper napkins under each dish. This restaurant is overpriced for the quality and the service you receive. As others have said, there’s a total lack of atmosphere. They need to play some background music. It’s shame really as it’s a nice setting and has a lot of potential but let down by the prices.

My two young children (aged 7 and 8) and I had a wonderful evening meal at Heskyn Mill. The arrival, via a long drive and through a tunnel opens onto a beautiful old water mill which was the setting for our dinner. The children loved the arrival alone! We hadn't booked but the host who is the owner was able to seat us in the main dining room sat amongst the mill workings of this extraordinary listed building. I'm pleased to write that the food matched the setting. I was delighted to find that all the food is locally sourced, the menu is small, diverse and I would gladly have eaten everything on it. As it was I shared smoked salmon with my youngest daughter and my eldest had bread and olives. We all loved it! The restaurant doesn't have a children's menu but they were happy to accommodate our needs; My less adventurous 8 year old had chicken for her main dish and asked for no peppercorn sauce, the host was happy to accommodate her request and the chef prepared a smaller portion for her. I shared Pork Fillet in a cream and tarragon sauce with my youngest daughter. The pork was so succulent and the sauce was wonderful. The side veg was cooked beautifully, with a bit of bite in it, just as it should be. We all loved the roast potatoes, which the host told us are becoming one of their signatures. I haven't seen them before and can't remember the name, but they are basically sliced multiple times and are referred to as hedgehogs! We shared a beautiful warm chocolate fudge and nut brownie for dessert. Everything I saw come out to other dinners looked superb, next time I'll have scallops! The setting and local knowledge provided by the warm host were the perfect accompaniments to our beautiful meal. Highly recommended.

This is the third time I have eaten here this year and it will be the last! On the first occasion the landlord was very polite the food was generous and well cooked. And reasonable value. On the second visit the scallops were a joke at 3 for £9.00 and I mentioned it to the landlord fortunately the remainder of the dishes were OK. Last night the crab and lobster cocktail starter had small fragments of shell and had not been prepared safely. The main course of lamb loin was 50% animal fat the vegetables were almost raw and portions were meagre. Prices have increased over the period and ended up paying £99 for two of us !! I could tell by the landlords face when I paid the bill that he knew I was unhappy and yes I felt cheated. Do not eat here unless you have money to burn and are not worried about being fleeced - very sad - but typical of so many greedy restaurants in the UK - makes you wonder why you go out to eat!

Been here twice now, both times the food was lovely, lots of different options and I like the fact that a lot of the food is locally sourced. Really enjoyed the interior which includes the old gears from when in was a mill

This is a very pretty restaurant set in an old mill. Top quality food and wine, small numbers so book ahead. Not for those on a budget..spend around £100 for two and you will eat and drink well in style.

We visited this restaurant recently and found it very disappointing. No atmosphere and expensive for the size of the portions. The food itself was quite nice. It would have helped to have some nice music playing quietly in the background. Kind of place where you do not want to have a conversation because everyone can hear you. Would not go there again.

I booked a table for 6 for my nephews 18th birthday lunch, turns out I can’t count and we were a table of 7. Normally you would expect this to cause no problems at all but this is such a small and intimate restaurant we were concerned. Combine that with a series of disasters that morning we finally arrived as a complete party an hour late. The owner of the restaurant could not have been more understanding, accommodating and completely charming. The food was OUTSTANDING. The quality of the locally sourced ingredients was amazing especially the fresh eggs from his chickens.

Went here on 12/05/2018 for lunch, when inside restaurant we were waiting a while and NO one turned up to greet us, there must have been a party upstairs as there was a lot of noise coming from there. NOT very good customer service having NO one there to greet you when you arrive. So went somewhere else for lunch and very nice it was too.

My wife and I ate here on Friday evening and it was so refreshing to eat high quality food in such pleasant surroundings. John the owner was very professional in every way. One of the few restaurants I have been in the world where as soon as you have finished a drink the dirty glass is removed from your table immediately. Most restaurants the waiters/waitresses are not trained properly and just leave dirty glasses to pile up and clutter the table - so very well done. The mussels are superb as was my main dish the oxtail. Would like to see more genorosity with the scallops though. Would highly recommend this restaurant and a little soft gentle easy listening music in the background would be the icing on the cake. Very impressed and will be back.

Amazing customer service and food. When calling to book, mentioned that one of the guests was Vegan, they provided a few options on the meal that could be made vegan friendly. They even went to the effort of making a Vegan pudding, which was a lovely surprise. They could not do enough for us and went to so much effort. All of our meals were demolished and I highly recommend it. And they have AMAZING chickens outside!

All three courses were fab. But a special mention to the roast sirloin of beef, pink, tender and very tasty. Staff were friendly and attentive. Good wine selection too. If you’re in the area it’s definitely worth a visit.

When the family visited just before Christmas, it was our sons birthday, and we had a lovely meal . Staff very welcoming, food excellent, well cooked and well presented. The chef even made chicken goujons for my grandson with the best chips he had tasted! Everyone enjoyed their food, especially my daughter in law who really enjoyed the sticky toffee pudding! Lovely evening. Thank you.

We visited Heskyn Mill with a group of 12 to celebrate our ruby wedding anniversary. The owner was so obliging when the booking was first discussed and we were amazed to learn that we didn’t have to choose from a set menu for such an occasion - we could design our own! With help from John we chose such lovely options that when the time came, we found it really difficult to narrow down our own selections to just one starter, main and dessert!

Went as a result f reading good reviews, and not disappointed. A lovely venue, full of character. Staff very pleasant. Menu not massive but always a good sign when you find it difficult to make the final choice. Three of us a shared two starters, and between the three of us, three different main course choices. All of us enjoyed the meal. Reasonable price, good food, nice staff, lovely atmosphere. Will return soon

We visited Heskyn Mill last night for dinner and to celebrate my Birthday. We know the beautiful building and it's wonderful surroundings and all a few seconds drive from the A38 and local for us, but it was the food that was truly memorable and in our opinion more than worthy of Michelin accreditation. The owner was very welcoming and friendly and the restaurant itself is a stunning environment, warm, inviting with low lighting and a great ambiance about it. Our food was just sensational - my starter, warm crispy home made sodah bread with warm vine tomatoes and red onion relish with hummus was just gorgeous ( my mouth is watering now just thinking about it ) . My main course was Guinea Fowl with vegetables of imagination - sensational ! My husband had the fish medley of Brill, monkfish & Jon Dory accompanied by a lemony butter sauce - another treat for the taste buds ! Needless to say we can't wait to visit again ...

We were only in Saltash for one evening, so wanted somewhere a little special. After trawling the internet we came across this lovely restaurant. Opened by its recent owners 18months ago. A beautiful old mill which has been converted very tastefully into a restaurant while keeping the old charm of the Mill. There is seating upstairs and down.

Went here for a weekday lunch - the restaurant was quiet but warm and welcoming. Service was great, the guy was really friendly and knowledgable about the food. The food itself was delicious! We had 3 courses and each one was perfect. The gin and blackberry sauce that came with the pork was particularly good. Will be coming back again!

Very welcoming, Great ice cream flavours. Especially the Ferrero Roche and Millionaires shortbread. Lady went above and beyond for our dog letting her sit in the shade on a 25 degree day to enjoy her pup cup. Thank you!

the only place open on a Sunday on St Martins! So glad it was open, it was absolutely heaving but we got there in time to get seats and what was left of the cakes and drinks.

I've only ever called in for a beer but no complaints so far and staff are nice too. There's a big beer garden which is very useful for the kids and dogs.

Found this delightful upstairs cafe by chance and had some of the best vegetarian food for a long time. We were made very welcome and chose the hummus bowl and roasted veg toasted sandwich. Both were excellent and very filling.
