Wow! I used to love this place but today whilst waiting for my panini (£5 and cheese not even melted) the man serving me blew his nose in a napkin, threw napkin in bin but didn't wash his hands! If that is anything to go by but I will never go back now : (

We showed up as a group of 12, the lad Rob took our large order and got stuck in getting it sorted. We are very grateful for his patience, after a couple of the girls changed their mind about what they were having. But he did it with a smile on his face and the Lorne rolls was delicious!

I am a tourist in Edinburgh and I ordered a coffee from Herbie's. The paper cup was hot and I asked for another cup in order to put my cup inside it so that I could hold it. The man who served me gave me a thin napkin instead and I asked him for a cup. He said he did not want to waste a cup infact I have been told Edinburgh is a mean city so I said Oh it's Scotland and he followed me outside and asked what I said I so I asked him again for another cup he told me to piss off. His behaviour was chauvinistic and threatning. Women beware.

Qué maravilloso servicio amable. El personal hace un esfuerzo adicional. Me encanta mi verdadera tostada con mantequilla y mermelada. Gracias al coronavirus estoy en retirada.

I visit here for my lunch probably three times a week. I think it's ace. The sandwiches/rolls are better and cheaper than nearby chains but it's the selection of soups which is the real star. So good. Also, the staff are super friendly.

Siempre un excelente café a un buen precio y las sopas se preparan recién todos los días con una amplia selección. ¡El pan granero es delicioso y muy recomendable!

Is there an option for no stars?! Ordered a soup and a tuna, RED ONION, and salad sandwich, I say red onion but there was absolutely no red onion in that..... and my god don’t get me started on the soup. Meant to be butternut squash but as soon as I opened it there was a nice layer of grease on the top then once tried I couldn’t swallow it. I can only describe what looked like tiny bones in it. Couldn’t chew them so had to spit it out. £5.05 spent on this lunch and it’s the worst £5 I have ever spent. Will NOT be returning!!!

This place is the best little sandwich shop in Edinburgh. I always go here for my lunch and the staff are warm, friendly, theres a great selection, and they are even accommodating if you have a fussy order like me where they will custom build your sandwich. Rough prices: Sandwich ~£3 Soup ~£1.50 Lunch deal with a drink ~£5 (If they have the quiches in, get a quiche. Even if you don't like quiche, trust me.)

Popped in this morning for breakfast... the attitude of the female staff member was absolutely terrible. She clearly didn’t want to be there as I heard her moaning to the regular customer before me that she doesn’t normally work Saturdays and that she had spent all morning slicing onions, she’s hates cutting onions. She obviously took her anger out on me as I am not a regular. I left without purchasing and won’t return. Maybe her boss will now make her work more saturdays....

I popped in for lunch yesterday and asked for a roast chicken and coleslaw salad. I was given a take away dish that was full to the brim of the most delicious leaves, cucumber, tomatoes, proper roast chicken and homemade coleslaw. It was only £3.25, delighted. I can't wait to return! Staff were also very friendly and helpful.

I've lived in Edinburgh now for about two and a half years and have always found it baffling that it is so hard to find a decent lorne roll in a Scottish city (the nation's capital no less). On the rare occasion that you find a place that does them you are left sorely disappointed by the quality. I’m talking over-cooked, rubbery, stale things that are tarnishing the proud lorne roll name. I was almost at breaking point and considering lobbying my local MP to tackle this crisis. That was until I found Herbie on William Street. I awoke on Sunday after a little lie in and proceeded to have a laze around for the rest of the morning. As is often my want on such a day, I started to crave a lorne roll. I reminded myself of many previous failed attempts at finding a decent one and considered a drive to Glasgow where there seems to be a more abundant source of sausage that come in squares. Luckily, after a short googling session I found a review on TripAdvisor about Herbie having great lorne rolls and decided to give it a go. There could be obstacles though I thought: It was a Sunday, would it be open? Other prospective lorne establishments in the area are not open on a Sunday. It was the afternoon, would they still be serving lorne rolls? Other places I’ve been before seem to only have the knowledge how to cook one in the morning and wouldn’t dare attempt to try to make one after noon. Would it actually be good? I’ve been stung by recommendations in the past and promptly cut all ties with the recommender after coming to the conclusion that I don’t want to be associated with someone who can lie to themselves and others in such a way. I needn’t have worried. Herbie was open and more than willing to nourish me with the square shaped meaty nectar I so desired. It was a thing of beauty, the roll I was given. Two slices of lorne, cooked to perfection, with a not drowned in, yet not scrimped on, helping of tomato ketchup. What a delight to eat it was. I can’t wait for next Sunday!

Terrible place, staff not particularly friendly and the pricing is obscene and inconsistent. I can of diet coke is £1.40!!, the soup was watery and I was overcharged. Will never go back there.

About 6 or more soups to choose from every day, as well as baked potatoes with any 2 fillings. Nice and cheap, I come here regularly. There's no seating, so you'll have to take your lunch somewhere to eat.

Fantastic tiny take-away place. They have a massive array of sandwiches, ranging from sliced bread, to baguettes and wraps together with their large collection of freshly made soups! They have a section in the back which allows you to customise your own sandwich as well. Lots of various deals which allows you to buy a selection of pieces for a set price, making it a fantastic bargain. Also sells baked loaf bread which comes from their own bakery off-site! Seaweed Sodabread is amazing!

Lovely little take-away place with freshly baked bread and a wide variety of pre-made sandwiches, baguettes and wraps with daily fresh homemade soup. If you can't find what you want from the selection, they will happily make your sarnie to order. The staff are all very friendly and chatty which (along with the above) makes this one of my regular lunch stops!

Visited for the first time with a group of local hospitality managers, the venue was lovely. The staff were weirdly rude and almost confrontational. We were advised upon ordering drinks that the venue closed in 30 minutes and said no problem we were just after 1 drink. 4 minutes after ordering our drinks, the music was then turned off and lights were turned up to full. The bar staff then started putting the chairs on every table more than 20 minutes prior to closing and even asked people to move and reached over a table full of people to turn off a lamp so they could close. We all weren't sure if any management was in place but all found it extremely rude and found the staff hostile and would suggest changing the opening times or closing process as it is not normal to make 5 tables feel unwelcome enough to finish their drinks so quickly and leave with that sort of attitude from staff. Disappointing as the venue itself is lovely.
