Herb in Leicester

I loved this bar, we visited for drinks which there was a great selection, served quickly and the bar staff were very friendly. I'd love to try the food next time as it smelled amazing! The decor is what really makes this place, it is fun to just look around at all the different lights, furnishings and wall hangings. The atmosphere was great and we had fun chatting with a few different people inside the bar too.

Very good restaurant starting from ambience, service to food. Went for a special occasion - didn't book a table but they put something together at the last minute and made the day more memorable.

Great staff working there, i’m a firefighter and was dealing with the aftermath of a fire in the building behind the restaurant, they came out and treated myself and 3 other members of the crew with food after being there all evening. Great service thank you again to the staff and chefs.

Went here after reading the 4.7 star reviews. I was with my family, we are not originally from Leicester but this placed looked good to have lunch there. Sadly, the food was so so bland, we ordered the paneer dosas and I have honestly never eaten anything so lacking in flavour. Dosas should be staple in this place as it claims to be south India. To make matters worse, there is no designated parking available, we spotted a car park next to the restaurant but not sure if it belongs to them. We tried to park the car in the car park but their machine wasn't functioning, we left the car park within 5 minutes but received a parking ticket of £60! So in addition to paying well I over £100 for extremely bland food, we were slapped with a parking ticket. Not worth the hype.

Loved the decor. Very rustic feel. A working motorbike on display. Food had very good flavour and prices were affordable. Business lunch is offered between 12 and 3 PM I think, for a meagre £5.99

A very pleasant, beautiful, cozy place with quiet music to relax. The food and masala tea were very, very tasty. The waiters are caring, friendly and attentive. I will definitely come again and recommend it to everyone. The food is vegetarian.

Delicious, filling and great service as well. You don’t feel you are missing the meat and everything had so much flavour and texture. I had to get some of my main to go, as I just couldn’t eat any more.

Absolutely fantastic every time! Food is delicious, each dish was tasty and unique. Service was friendly. We shared all our food just so we could try more! Personal favourites are the Thali and Biryani but everything is delicious. Mahi was an excellent host too.

Firstly, the atmosphere is wonderful. It’s cosy, quiet and beautifully lit inside. The food was lovely, and I highly recommend the chilli kappa. However, the service was very uncomfortable. The waitress peaking over the card machine to make sure tips were given and coming over to the table every 5 minutes was too much. We also felt almost forced to take our leftovers home too. Overall, I don’t see the hype for this place and probably won’t return.

It took a few moments to fully appreciate how classy this place is. Firstly, it was how welcoming the waiting staff were along with their very calm demeanor. Then the décor, with the motorbike centrepiece, wonderful lighting and the full expanse of the place. Lastly, the menu. Very different choices from standard Indian fayre. But that didn't quite prepare me for the dishes themselves. Absolutely delicious. I shall definitely be returning.

I am putting a new review on. I previously left an excellent review when we visited before (see below). Today I took my wife there again for another Valentine's meal but the experience was completely different. We went in and chose a small table near the window to get some daylight. An unfriendly waitress came along and asked if we were a party of four, when clearly we were only two. She looked very put out by having to take the extra cutlery away. She put the menus on the table without saying anything and then proceeded to ignore us. We tried to catch her attention several times but she didn't make any eye contact even though there were few customers and she did not appear to be doing anything. We decided to leave after being ignored for ten minutes. She came rushing over when she saw that we were putting on our coats again. We explained to her male colleagues outside why we were going and they apologised and appeared genuinely embarrassed and tried to persuade us to come back in. Unfortunately the damage was already done and we just wanted to leave, all down to one rude individual. Why work in a place where you don't like customers????? We bought a much simpler meal elsewhere for a fraction of what we would paid in Herb and ended up having a pleasant afternoon despite theunp unpleasant start. took my wife here for an afternoon's Valentine's meal. We were charged approximately £25 each for an non-alcoholic beer, a vegetable Korma with rice, a crepe and ice cream and a Masala tea, which we considered good value. All the food is vegetarian with some specifically vegan options. The quality of the meal was excellent. It was light, but filling, and did not leave us feeling over-full. The staff were helpful and friendly, without being intrusive. The decor was bright and eclectic. There was a mural of the Last Supper, giving a nod to Kerala's ancient Christian heritage. There was also a recognition of Kerala's Jewish influences in the menu. There was a motorbike encased in the fabric of the restaurant. In fact, there was a little of everything to cater for everybody, apart from voracious carnivores. It was a very pleasant experience that I would not hesitate to recommend to others.

None of these reviews point out the lack of variety, genuinely a struggle for anyone who actually enjoys Paneer or anything of that variety. The tastes of the food was okay but nothing special. I don't rate it. Why are the reviews that high when the variety is that lacking is beyond me.

Visited for the first time today and was absolutely blown away by the service, the chill interior and the incredible food! We had the masala dosas and wow they were huge and such good value for money. We arrived when they opened and within a half an hour the whole restaurant was nearly fully booked. I really wish we lived closer as we’d be regulars.

The food was good. It was a shame that the restaurant didn't acknowledge that it was my son's 21st birthday even though I'd mentioned it in the booking and when I phoned to check the booking. I even asked if they could make sure we had a nice table but it felt we were just plonked anywhere, which happened to be by a large noisy group and a family with a toddler on an electronic toy. For that reason I'm only giving 2 stars for service and atmosphere.

We came to Herb on a recommendation from family, and are really glad we did, I didn't usually attend vegetarian restaurants, but I didn't feel like meat was missing from my meal, so very pleasantly surprised. The poppadoms were the lightest and crispiest I've ever had, and the pickles they were served with were really tasty. The special Thali was a real treat, all the dishes were well cooked and had a beautiful depth of flavour. Staff were friendly and helpful, but could have checked in on if we needed more drinks, and brought the bill while we were still eating dessert unprompted which seemed a little unusual. Will definitely return.

Ive been here four times and each time had a brilliant time. Food, service and ambience second to none. My most recent visit was 30/11/24 and we had the chat and tofu for starter (really tasty) and then a dosa each for main (although shouldve shared this) Had a great time and would go back again

My experience at herb was something that tops almost all restaurant i've been too. Ordered takeout in person right when they opened and it was handled perfect. I didn't expect much since it was take out and a Sunday morning. I was seated with about a 5 minute wait (i only ordered 2 things). As i was waiting, one of the employees bought over some soup for me, I was confused because I did't order it, but he told me it was on the house, while I wait. I was so impressed by this because it really shows how much this place cares about customer service. I will be back and this time with friends and family because i recommend this place to anyone looking for a great place to eat, the food was amazing and the service is way above what you expect from any restaurant.

Whenever we’re in England, we make it a point to visit Herb. We always choose the vegan slim thali, and this time, we also tried the tofu starter. Every dish is consistently delicious. We are pure vegetarians and we booked a table for 5, on a Sunday the food was below average, the soup we had for a starter was like a lentil dhal, every dish was below average we spent over £150 and we definitely won't be going there again, we thought we'd try it as the reviews were good, definitely not, and more expensive than others, we always go sharmille on belgrave road or chai Pani there food is always good and fairly priced, we are Indian and definitely know our food and we expect high standards at this price, lesson learned, disappointing.
